Clandonia Prime
16-02-2007, 22:58
Clanonshire Palace, New Clandon City
It was finally time for democracy to be jump started again, the final meeting of His Majesty King William the VII and that of Lord Dollington who had been placed as Lord Protector of the United Kingdom to oversee the crisis. As the situation settled many political movements began, taking advantage of the unrestrained free speech and political discussion.
Several main movements had appeared, the usual mix of the socialists, nationalists, conservative and libertarian was not surprising reflecting a broad view of the political compass of the voting Clandonian population. Clandonian voting rules allowed anyone of Clandonian or dual nationality from the ages of eighteen to participate in the forthcoming vote. Now who were the candidates for this election? As the first Clandonian parliament would be formed, a total of 452 MP's representing geographical constituencies spread across the country. Using the first past the post election system, the party with the most seats will be able to form a government or try and form a coalition government. There will be an official opposition lead by the party that achieves the second most seats.
Bellow are the details of the candidates of the leaders of the various political parties.
David Sistilin, Leader of the Clandonian Liberal Conservative Party
Political Ideological Influences: Conservatism, Unionism, Classical Liberalism, Neo-liberalism
One of the youngest candidates in the election, aged 38 some argue he is to young to take up such a position of leading the country. Married to his wife Rebecca with three children. The Tory's support the monarchy and support of laissez faire free market economics. View the Alliance for the Preservation of Civilisation with distrust and supports the principle of the Sovereign League. Supports the military, promises to keep taxes low to encourage industry to develop and is against 'cradle to grave' welfare that has been proposed by the Labour party. The party has strong support among the public with strong Royalist support guaranteed for the Tory's the estimated vote is 46% a figure high enough to form a government with 208 seats.
Steven Brigins, Leader of the Clandonian Labour Party
Political Ideological Influences: Democratic Socialism, Social Democracy, Third Way
One of the most controversial of the candidates with active links in the Labour Party to the Clandonian Militant Tendency, a left wing terrorist group that attacked banks and private finance companies over 'debt liberation' for the lower classes. Unmarried, believes in controlled capitalism for the redistribution of wealth. Dislikes the Sovereign League calling it 'An organisation of bourgeois imperialists intent on oppressing the poor working classes', at a press conference. Critics argue his party is irrational and paradoxical in regards to some of their policies in their election manifesto with clear splits in the party between those of the more moderate and far left. Is against increased military spending, plans to increases taxes to 60% to help create a welfare state with health and education free for all. Estimated vote is 21% giving them around 94 seats, support is popular in the North where the steel and heavy industry centres are located in New Kirkland and the surrounding area.
Conrad Zackin, Leader of the Clandonian National Front
Political Ideological Influences: Ethnic nationalism, Radical right-wing populism
Argued as some as a racist and a xenophobe with links to thug gangs accused of beating up several foreign students and suspected of several murders. Anti-gay and against capitalism believing in nationalism for the benefit of the poor white Clandonian working classes. Is married with two children, supports increased arms forces spending with compulsory military service for all. Is against all external alliances and is wary of regional Haven neighbours. Proposes a welfare system but only for citizens who have completed national service and plans for increased law enforcement with the expansion of capital punishment. Support is low around 6%, support could grow if issues over Clandonian nationality in the occupied lands arise during election time with the controversial Whyatican government and its campaign of tyranny recently as part of the APOC organisation.
A varied mixture across the political landscape, we invite foreign nations and other organisations to post their views of funding and for voting for the three main candidates. Note, the forecast polls are not accurate with an estimated 12% of people surveyed having no opinion and the other 15% for other minor political parties. More updates will be posted.
