Miana, Whyatica
The massive, sprawling metropolis that is the Imperial capital woke up to one of the bloodiest battles it had ever seen, as Imperial Guardsmen from all over the city obeyed the commands of the Prime Minister, attacking "The Emperor's fighting men" on sight. Unfortunately for the Imperial Army, the majority of the experienced men were fighting in the mideast, the only Army soldiers that could respond to the Emperor's call were green, inexperienced compared to the elite Imperial Guards. When they found themselves under fire, most of them panicked, trying not to return fire into a random civilian. In some cases, Army men which outnumbered the Guards were still unable to inflict severe casualties on the Guards, as experience in urban combat gave the Guards a massive advantage.

23rd Avenue at X Street
A scream cut through the rest of the noise on this busy marketplace, as an Imperial Guard opened fire on two Army grunts that were walking down the avenue. The two soldiers dove behind a car, trying to grab their sidearms and silence the Guard before more could show up. Rounds splashed against the car, cutting through the car and narrowly avoiding killing the Army soldiers. The three men traded fire occasionally, with civilians running and creating a huge problem for both the Guard and the Army soldiers, neither of which wanted to kill innocents.

The luck of the Army soldiers changed, however, as a civilian, Mark Parkman, saw the firefight, and waged that the Imperial Guard had fired first. Using a quick judgement call, he pulled his firearm out of his jacket, firing three rounds rapidly into the head of the Guardsman. He stood there after he fired, realizing exactly what he had done.

..I've just killed an Imperial servant.. he thought, putting his gun away and putting his hands in the air, as the two Army men looked up, seeing the corpse of the Guardsman and Parkman with his hands in the air, shaking.

"Did-did you shoot that man?" the first grunt yelled out, and Parkman nodded, dropping the gun on the ground.

"Good. Go home, stay there, lock your doors." the second one yelled, turning on his radio and trying to get in contact with an Army base near Miana, for reinforcements.

"Patrol Three-Niner-Alpha to Base, we are under attack by Imperial Guards, respond!" he yelled, his knees shaking a bit from the sudden attack.

"Base to 3NA patrol, reinforcements are en route, we're receiving calls like this all from the city, dispatch Imperial Guards on sight, they're attempting to capture the Emperor." the base sent back, with static over the radio transmission.

The two soldiers didn't respond immediately, as it shocked them to the core. The Imperial Guards were openly revolting against the Emperor's attempt to remove the Prime Minister, it seemed, and they may very well get to the Palace before anyone could help..

"The Imperial Guards had lost their..individuality. Where once the Guard stood for honour and freedom, it stood for mindless loyalty."

Imperial Army Sub-base, Miana, Whyatica
The sound of gunfire rang through an Army sub-base within Miana. Hundreds of Imperial Guards had pushed through the main gates of the base, while Army soldiers scrambled to their battle rifles and to battle. The goal of the Guards at this station was to secure any armoured vehicles if at all possible, because the gates of the Palace could prevent lone foot soldiers from breaking through. In some cases, brother killed brother as the Army men mobilized in greater numbers in the base to push the Guards out. This scene was replicated many other places in the city - experienced Guards slaughtering the inexperienced Army men en masse, before finally being killed due to superior numbers. In some cases, the people of Miana joined in the combat, with either the Guards or the Army - in most cases, they saw an Army man open up at a Guard, or the other way around, and attacked their perceived aggressor, aggravating things for both parties.

Thousands of civilians hopped in with their guns, causing even more confusion to an already chaotic situation - Someone watching from their roof sees a soldier shooting at a civilian with a gun, gets his gun, and corrects the injustice, and gets killed by a Guard. In many cases, the gun battles became running, as both the Army and the Guards raced to a single focal point - the Palace, which had ceased to be attacked as the Guards rallied for their strike..

Imperial Palace, Miana, Whyatica
The mighty gates of the Palace held - for the moment. Imperial Army soldiers rushed through the streets, pushing through civilian crowds and driving civilians away using large armoured vehicles that had finally managed to be mobilized, as the Imperial Guard pushed through to the Palace on foot. The Emperor himself did not hide underneath the bunker, even after he heard, he sat in the Palace itself, attempting to direct defences and a counter-offensive against the PM and Imperial Guards. As the more experienced troops were beginning to be railed into Miana from the outer areas, the tide started to turn against the Guards. More experienced men that had fought in Lesbian Island and in the Last Good War pushed through the cities using heavy armoured vehicles, devastating the Guards line that had no armour and no air support.

The Emperor continued to try to order all the Guards to stand down, and while some obeyed the orders, the rest did not, or only paused briefly before continuing on. More than half the Imperial Guards had been wounded or killed, at a price of almost 11,000 Imperial Army soldiers wounded or killed..

Chambers of Parliament, Miana, Whyatica

Five Imperial Guards were the remaining defenders of Prime Minister McMillin, who had holed himself in a radio room in the Parliament Chambers. The rest of Parliament had evacuated the building, running the hell away before the battles could reach them. This left the building easy for the Army to capture McMillin and end the battle..

Thirty Imperial Army soldiers, supported by an Imperator Urbanus battle tank entered the courtyard for the Parliament, finding no resistance in the entrance-way. The gate was barred and shut, but it was not hardened, and no match for a low-velocity shell fired into it, and the soldiers rushed in, covered by a blinding fog of smoke. Finding again, no resistance, the thirty soldiers moved cautiously, advancing through the massive building in groups of 5, converging on the radio rooms.

A shot rang out through the hallway, and a man dropped. Leonid Foreman, a grunt in the Imperial Army, took the shot in his chest, the bullet knocking him back onto the ground, and he played dead so the Guards did not shoot him further. The rest of his squad yelled "Man down, sector 4 near radio room!" and countered the Guards with their own battle rifle fire. Against orders, one of the soldiers threw a fragmentation grenade down the hall, causing the 4 Guards on the other end, barricaded behind thick metal desks and garbage cans, looked up wildly, as the grenade exploded, sending shrapnel through the walls, and killing the Guards.

"Advance!" the Lieutenant of the group said, kicking down the door to the radio room with a single mighty blow from his boot. He pointed his rifle at the small, whimpering form of David R. McMillin, on the ground crying, moving in a fetal position as his insanity took over.

"Prime Minister, you will call off the Imperial Guards right this second or I will kill you where you lie." the soldier screamed, loading a clip into his battle rifle.

The mad Prime Minister looked up, with no fear in his eyes of the rifle staring him in the face.

"I will not surrender." he said softly, reaching into his jacket pocket for something, and the soldier turned the safety off his battle rifle - and fired one shot, clean through Prime Minister David McMillin's head.

He stopped moving. The blood spatter had created a bizarre, impressionist style painting on the wall, making the dim room look like something out of a horror movie. The soldier quickly moved to the radio system, fiddled with it, and turned it on.

"Imperial Guards..Stand down. Prime Minister McMillin is dead."

Prime Minister McMillin Dead
Emperor Takes Control

________________
Prime Minister David R. McMillin was shot and killed today by Imperial Army soldiers, during the civil warfare in the Whyatican Empire's capital. Yesterday, after Emperor Paulus the First ordered the removal of PM McMillin and his government, the deceased PM ordered the Corps of Imperial Guards to "seize the Emperor" so he would rescind the order and allow McMillin to remain in power. Some 19,000 Imperial Guards within Miana obeyed the orders of McMillin, while the rest disobeyed and did nothing. They marched through the streets, attacking what McMillin called, "The Emperor's fighting men", in other words, the Imperial Army. Bloody urban warfare erupted throughout downtown Miana, causing the deaths of several scores of civilians in the path of the bullets. As the Army has two forward deployed army groups in Kahanistan, the majority of the experienced soldiers were not in Miana to fight the Imperial Guards, leaving only raw recruits to fight the elite soldiers. Nine thousand Imperial Army soldiers died, to nearly half that many deaths in the Guard.

Thirty experienced Army soldiers based from the city of Pickett had been railed in as the battle began, and they were tasked with storming the Chambers of Parliament and capturing McMillin alive. These thirty men were some of the best the Army had to offer, all thirty survived the Last Good War without a scratch on them, they were the elite of the Army. After a gun-fight in the halls of Parliament against the Guards protecting McMillin, Lieutenant Linus Vogler entered the radio room of the Chambers, finding the form of McMillin on the ground. After McMillin attempted to pull a gun out of his jacket, Lieutenant Vogler shot and killed Prime Minister McMillin.

After the Guards stood down and were brought into custody by the Army, Emperor Paulus I made a public announcement that he had "dissolved [Parliament] and taken temporary power over the nation during this crisis". The Emperor has legal powers to do these actions, however, this course of action has not been taken for many dozens of years by many Emperors. The Miana Register took an inpromptu poll, and of those answering, 71% favoured the Emperor's choice, 19% were against it, while the rest were undecided.

Imperial Whyatica Mobilizes All Reserves

The Emperor Paulus I today, after his controversial seizure of power, has announced that all reserve soldiers, ships, and warplanes will be mobilized in the face of perceived aggression from foreign nations. He noted "These are turbulent times, and our way of life, our freedom, will be challenged in the future, and we shall be ready for them."

Along with bringing the troops home from Kahanistan and the middle-east, he is calling up all 1.8 million reserve soldiers into their refresher training and their units, as well as activating the Mothball Fleet, some 1,300 combat ships, ranging from old Iowa class battleships, to the vaunted IWNS Renown. The Emperor has called an emergency strategic session with the heads of the military, including several 'brain trusts' of top academics and intelligence within the Empire. He is also rumoured to be calling up the Arabian Guard for service within the mainland, a move that would increase manpower available on the ground by vast numbers. It is also rumoured that thousands of nuclear weapons are being brought out of storage and activated, although the Emperor neglected to inform the press of which nations may be aggressive to the Empire.
