The candidates (and their platforms) are as follows:

Ayinde Odegbami (incumbent) of the Nigerian Liberal Party (center-right). Favors continuing the free-market policies carried out since independence in 1960 as well as the country's low profile in international affairs. Considered moderate-to-conservative on social issues.

Olusẹgun Ọbasanjọ of the People's Democratic Party (centrist). Favors a mixed economy and an active involvement in world politics (but friendly relations with all states). Unclear where he stands on social issues.

Hassan Abiola of the Social Democratic Party (center-left). Favors a regulated capitalist economy with increased benefits with the poor, higher funding for education, and universal healthcare for all. Considered liberal on social issues (he supports women's rights, gay rights, and the legalization of soft drugs). Unclear where he stands on foreign policy.

Theophilus Ademola of the Nigeria First Party (far-right). Favors an ultra-protectionist economy based on a corporatist model and a rigidly isolationist foreign policy. Very reactionary on social issues (he wants to make homosexual a capital crime).

Ibrahim Kashimawo Kingibe of the Nigerian Workers' Party (far-left). Favors the nationalization of all industries, heavy progressive taxation to redistribute wealth, free healthcare for all, and free education (from pre-school to the university level) for all. Extremely libertarian on social issues.

Chinua Okonjo-Iweala of the Nigerian Green Party. Has no clear position on any issues except the environment, which he believes is "the most paramount issue facing us today."

George Achebe of the Nigerian Libertarian Party. His positions border on anarcho-capitalist; he is extremely laissez faire on both economic and social issues.
