This is a Vietnam-era rp. Sign-up if you're interested.

Vietnam...a hopeless void that consumes all who enter it. The longest war in U.S. history, claiming over 50,000 American lives as well as millions of Vietnamese. A misguided war against Communism set in the jungles and streets of a southeast Asian country. The fate of two ideaologies. Two superpowers waging war against each other through puppets. At first, it began as a slight intervention with aide and military supervisors. Soon, the numbers of soldiers swelled as they fought fierce and quick clashes with guerrilla units. In 1968 the war takes a drastic and horiffic turn against the U.S. Even though the North suffered massive casualties and almost were destroyed. The long term impact was aganst the Americans. Public opinion dropped and support for this senseless war waned. This story takes place a few weeks before the Tet Offensive as a platoon of marines fight to survive the physical and psychological aspect of an ever escalating conflict.

OOC: Basically, it's about a platoon of marines trying to make it through the war and keep their lives as well as their sanity. There's no huge grand plot, their just pawns in a war. At one point they find themselves in Hue right at the start of the Tet Offensive.

Weight: 187lbs
Hair: Dark

History: Charlie was born in Pittsburgh, PA. His father was a steelworker and mother a secretary. He lived a normal life in the city, got into some trouble but nothing serious. His old man would give him a good one whenever he misbehaved but quickly learned his lessons. Both his parents wanted him to do something with his life. So, Charlie worked hard and was rarely given anything but had to earn it. In school, he recieved good grades and played on the football team. There, he met Laura Jenkins and the two fell in love. When they graduated, Charlie joined the marines and Laura went to college for criminal justice. He was sent to Vietnam but the two of them stayed loyal to one another as he survived the brutal conditions of Vietnam. He is smart, strong, and a good man to have next to you in a fight.

Brief History:

Robert Berit is a good old southern boy, graduated from East High School, and enlisted in the military (much to the dismay of his mother). Bump.

Also, this rp will take place in and around the city of Hue. It should be a good rp with plenty of action as well as a goos story. There's enough for everyone. The story'll start out in Hue as they take a few days of liberty while out of rotation, then it's back to the jungles and so on.

The spread of communism deeper into Asia spelled doom for maintaing democratic governments there. Vietnam is rightly referred to sometimes as a "domino", for if it fell to communism then that would send a terrible message to the rest of Asia. The only reason we lost was due to the huge weight of political pressure.

But that debate is for another time, and thread. :)

Now, Vietnam is hardly "Communist'' in the true sense. The American doctrine of containment was misguided and percieved that Communism was the great threat to the world. Vietnam was a senseless war that cost thousands of American lives and millions of Vietnamese. My father was almost drafted into the war. My mother regaled stories of having to watch the evening news every night for ten years about the death and war over there. She also remembers the anti-war protests. The Gulf of Tonkin Incident was never fully investigated and some believe that it never even happened. Even so, it was hardly a good reason to send thousands of troops to Vietnam.

My dad was IN the war. Not nearly drafted. He feels that we could've, and should've won, but naive political pressure availed. And though Vietnam is definitely not completely communist now, the fact that the Soviet Union backed it when it fought against us was enough of an incentive to deem it communist.

Probably because they haven't been reported yet. It's a little ridiculous if you ask me, and severely hampers our creativity. Their reasoning is that it's got nothing to do with NS, so why is it here? My reasoning for posting unrelated roleplay content on NS is because it's a huge community of imaginative, fairly-skilled writers, a hard thing to find on the net these days. Rules are rules though, and they'll probably snag you on this eventually. Christ, I had to make another nation just so I could do some fantasy roleplays.

The war could've been won but far too many people believed it was wrong and a waste of lives and money. Though, I strongly disagree with how the protesters treated the American troops upon returning home and the whole waving North Vietnamese flags around and that whole sort.

The consequences will be that your thread is closed down and removed. Maybe they'll warn you if you keep doing it. As for SB, no, he isn't a mod, but he's doing his part and keeping an eye out for unrelated content.

I've done plenty of other roleplays that had nothing to do with NS. Look at most of my past threads and my nation is hardly in any of them.

Edit: Not to mention all the other people who do the same. I like to express my writing skills and improve upon them.

I know. Believe me, you're preaching to the choir. I'm like you, in the way that I hop around and do a lot of character roleplays. It's kind of a new rule that they've just recently begun to enforce. ISA is just giving you a heads up, is all.
