OOC: First and foremost, I am not a newb, do not treat me like one. If you show up with a fleet, you will be mocked as an incompetent diplomat. I would prefer a maximum of 5 ships. Anyone who has an issue with my premise may keep their mouth shut. Thank you.

IC:

For neary 100 years the Sharonans and Arcanans had waged war across countless worlds, all of them Earth. Hundreds of worlds had been decimated by Arcanas magical consructs. Hundreds more were wiped clean by the terror of Sharonan technology, laying waste to all that opposed it. Now, nearly a millennium to the year after the Sharonans finally defeated the last of the Mythalan holdouts from Arcana, things were about to become frightening once more. For centuries the Sharnonan military had expanded across numerous worlds, claiming each in turn for their masters. In time their technology had improved. Tanks had replaced horses, Assault Rifles, and then Railguns had replaced bolt actions and semis. Ships had left the surface, bound for the moon, and eventually other planets within the solar system. Finally, they had advanced beyond their solar system. Already an intrasystem Faster Than Light jump had been tested, based upon the gates which had led them to expand to this universe. The first vessel of the Sharonans to break the lightspeed boundary, and truly leave Sharona behind would be a Destroyer. Tiny as far as such things were measured, its bare 400 meters packed only a pair of gun batteries, but it would be able to defend itself, and Sharonan experience with other civilzations in the past had begun with massacre. That would not be allowed to happen again.

15 Khalest(April), Year 1126, Post Union

The ship hummed with power, its Particle Projection Cannon and Point Defense Lasers advertised that it was not a civilian ship, but its passenger list gave the lie to its military trappings. The greatest scientists and Talents ion Sharona had come to experience this first hand. For a single dreadful moment, there was absolute nothingness, and then reality simply SHATTERED. The tiny Destroyer was flung hundreds of light years away from the Sharona system, exactly as they had intended, depositing them God alone knew where, but certainly after a time they could begin to get theirbwearings, jump back to Sharona, and share the good news...

The DVG(unship) Shooting Star was a small vessel in terms of the Dos Volodis military. Measuring at only six hundred meters, it was still a fairly sized ship, and moved at speeds that would give fighters pause for thought.

While fairly well armed, what was always so striking about DV ships, was that their hulls were always golden. This is not because they are made of gold, but rather Quantanium, an armour designed to absorb all energy weapons with ease. Of course, the armour wasn't that great against kinetic attacks, but Jordaxian foam under the hull took the brunt of most projectile hits, although missile attacks were impossible to stop, so if the shields ever went down, a ship this size wouldn't last long against a well placed barrage of missiles...granted they could keep up with the Gunship.

At this point in time, the Shooting Star happened to be passing through a particular sector of space, which was not only near the Dos Volodis Border, but where the Sharonans had touched jumped in. It did not take long for scanners to pick this up. On the Bridge of the Shooting Star, Captain Arcona raised an eyebrow. The latest Gunships featured a one person Bridge, where the Captain could control all functions through a chip in his brain. Grinning, he re-orientated the ship to intercept the Sharonan Destroyer.

_________________________________________________________________

A few minutes later, the DVG Shooting Star slowed it's engines to a near halt, bringing it to a quick halt two kilometers away from the Destroyer. Immediately, the Gunship's forward armament was brought to bear. This consisted of two Beam Cannons, several chain guns, half a dozen laser turrets and two Missile Launchers. A transmission was immediately sent to the Destroyer.

[Unknown craft, this is the DVG Shooting Star. You have jumped three light years inside our Borders, would you care to explain why you have done this?]

OOC: I'm going to hold off replying to this until I've had a chance to do a bit of talking with Jord. And until you edit to something reasonable. My ships are not blind. They would most certainly see you long before you got to two kilometers, which is suicide range in FT. Pointing guns is also contraindicated. Now, it's 4:30 am, I'm tired, and I'll turn this into a real reply, to what I hope will become a reasonable post by tomorrow.

OOC: ...What exactly is wrong here? In Freespace 2, ships get as close as two kilometers and duke it out. And it's not as if I've attacked you, or assumed anything. Even IF you did see me, I doubt a Destroyer, one that is experimenting with FTL for that matter, could outrun a Gunship. My post will still be here tomorrow.

And in any intelligent universe, where the concept of evasion has taken hold, people stay way the fuck away from each other. And you have assumed something, That your gunship is faster than my destroyer, what my destroyers speed even is, and what actions I might have taken, like telling you to stay well off from my ship, had you not simply posted your ship "LOL2km away gunz at j00r face!". Etiquette says you detect and begin to move. I respond to the appearance of your vessel, at which point you may THEN attempt to place yourself stupidly close to my ship. Which I may resist in whatever manner I deem expedient, including jumping my ass way the hell away from you.

As I am a 'newb' and you are not, I'm certain you'll 'mock my incompetence' as a poster, but as there are only two vessels and not a shot has been fired, why does it matter how close he got to your ship? Why not role-play a getting to know you instead of demanding he edit his post? ))

OOC: It is my intro. In my two years on NS I have seen the majority end in a manner similar to this, with some nation that thinks it's got TEH POWER! trying to one up the opening nation. He has limited my decisions by not giving me a chance to respond to his first action before he took another action, in effect deciding what my actions were. At this point I can either do whatever he tells me to(fucvk that), or shoot the shit out of him in a fight that is so short ranged as to assure MAD. The logical course actually IS to blow him to hell and gone about 200km ago, but that's out the window, since the wanker kind of skipped the "movement" phase, and went straight to "resolution". No crew is going to let another ship get within 2km without trying to blow it the hell away. I'm not sure why I'm the only person that has an issue with this state of affairs, or the nonchalance with which you treat the conditions set by the thread starter. It is often the case that nations making new puppets will note that this is not just some kid that just joined to avoid the consequences of such an assumption. It is also common to limit those who participate. Send a space worm if you wish. I'd gladly open talks with a reasonable and logical interstellar polity.

OOC: Screw it, he's not gonna change his tune

IC:

As the silent ship approached, unresponsive to their attempts at communication, technicians frantically prepared the ship for another FTL transit, away from here, and away from Sharonan space as well. If these barbarians couldn't communicate like intelligent beings, then they wanted nothing to do with them. The ship and its passengers once again experienced the mind numbing wrongness of FTL translation, and moments later appeared hundreds of light years away, once again god knew where, though well out from any systems, which may prove to be both a blessing and a curse. Astrogators began immediately attempting to identify stars, and discern their location in the cosmos, so as to plot a jump home. Until that time the ships gun crews went to quarters, and were prepared to deal with any threat if the lunatic ship followed them.

Reach Orbital Command
On Board Fox 1 Orbital Defence Platform, Admiral Thomas Johnson Jr. was over looking an after-action report from war games against the Second Fleet. "Stealth bombers disabling Imperial Truth early in the battle." He muttered. After his aid came in he was brought back to reality. "Admiral, we have detected an unidentidied vessel in the Pegasi System." His aid; Captain Anderson said promtly. The Admiral Replied in his cold harsh voice," Send a frigate to investagate." After a moment of thought he added," I believe the Olympic had finished its refit."

Pegasi System
A ten thousand kilometers from the Destroyer, the Olympic Exited Hyperspace, and sent a message in Galatic Basic to the Destroyer.

This is the Olympic. You have arrived in 1010102 territory, please state your purpose.

"Governor, we've received a transmission... It's rather garbled. We're currently attempting to translate at least part of it." The captain of the Destroyer was almost holovid perfect, he LOOKED like he should be the captain of a mighty warship, exactly as he was. Seated around a table before him were representatives of the Sharonan Trans-Temporal Cartographic Society(TTCS), representatives of all of the major houses, and representatives of both the House of Talents and the House of Gifted, the portions of the government created to handle those affairs unique to the tiny percentage of the populace that was in some way able to exercise a psionic Talent, or the Gift of magic. Now the Governor of New Sharona, representative of House Calirath, and a cousin of the sitting Emperor, spoke up. "We must of course reply in as non-threatening a manner as possible captain. We can't afford to provoke hostilities when we have minimal means by which to defend ourselves. Attempt to get them to send a diplomat if we can translate their language any."

"Governor, I know that, it's all in the First Contact Protocols. The problem is that this is obviously a warship, and it is obviously from around here, meaning there are likely to be more, if things do turn south."

The Governor paled, having failed to consider that fact. "Are you saying that we have no chance out here? That everything is someone else's territory? That we'll be stuck with our single vulnerable planet in this universe?"

"I am saying, Governor, that it seems the population density of this region of space is quite high, so in a way, you are correct. On the other hand, we don't know anything about the local politics, which may spell trouble for us."

"Well Captain, do the best you can."

"I'm a Ternathian, sir. We always do."

Captain of Ship Amarant chan Harmal stepped out of the conference room, and addressed his communications officer. "Send a reply to the other vessel. Tell them that we are unable to understand their message, but if they have more effective translation software than we do, that we would be glad to open diplomatic relation with them."

"Aye sir, I'll get on it right away."

We are unable to make heads or tails of your communication. If by some strange fluke you are more able to understand our own, we would like to open diplomatic discourse between our nations.

The...ship, if it could be called such, moved sedately through the void between worlds, passing here and there as it was wont to do on various journeys.
It was not so much a ship as a living organism, and therefore attuned to all living things. It was shaped like a fantastic tree the size of a small asteroid, grown from a central core of wood; branches stretched out into a structure not disimilar to a thistle. A vessel completely organic, it was armoured with impenetrable wooden plates and shielded by an energy utterly natural and eons old that kept the ship alive as it moved through the void.

Entering a particular system that was uninhabited, it paused in surprise, the ship sensed life forms, small groups, but life none the less. Mind you, it had not travelled this way for millenia, and it was to be expected that its memory was not entirely accurate.
Resuming is journey, it closed the gap with the life sources, stopping at roughly forty thousand kilomters distance, such numbers meant nothing to it, that was where it simply decided to stop and watch.

Owing to the unique properties of DNA, each form of life registered differently to the ship, and as such it was able to compare these with those encountered in previous times and by other ships. It determined that these were as yet unkown, the ship conferred with its counterparts scattered throughout the galaxy and agreed with the chosen course of action, it would attempt to contact.

No electronics were housed within the ship, instead it reached out with its incredible mind, full of knowledge and understanding, it began to speak directly to each life source, sending out its message in a broad direction, favouring neither one nor the other. Transmitting first in one language, then another, and another, it was patient, enventually they would understand.

"We are the Verdani, we greet you as one form of life to another, for time immemorial we have travelled, yet never met, we wish to learn of you, if you will permit."

As one, ten people jumped to their feet in startlement. Each and every one of them was a Talented Voice, able to communicate through telepathy. Each and every one of them had just heard what they knew to be flatly impossible. There was no way. They had encountered exactly one other civilization in their past, and it had NEVER exhibited Talents, except when intermarried with Sharonans, just as no full blooded Sharonan had ever exhibited the Gift. Now, here, in the depths of space, something was speaking to them as only a Voice could. First to react was the communications officer. "Sir, we've just received another hail."

The captain looked up in surprise, his primary gift being Mapping, the ability to judge terrain without actually seeing it, he was unable to hear the voice speaking to them. "I don't see any record of another incoming communication on my display. If you would elaborate please?"

"We just received a Voice communication from someone identifyi-"

"A VOICE communication. Out here?"

"Yes sir. They have identified themselves as the Verdani. My colleagues over at the sensors have informed me that we are also detecting massive lifesigns from a vessel which has recently entered the system."

"Good Lord... Is this some kind of trade hub area or something? Seems no matter how far from home we go, we keep meeting more and more people. Oh well... Send a reply, indicating who and what we are, as well as our purpose."

"Aye sir."

Speaking on behalf of the Union of Sharona, we greet you. Our purpose in this sector is exploration and scientific advancement. We will only be here a short time, after which we will be returning to our home.

OOC: Nice to see you back.:p

The Yukatan Frigate glided through Slip space. On another long range patrol. far from any Federation Systems, the crew was relaxed, the Marines on board were playing a football game in the hanger deck, and the Navy personnel who weren't on station decided to watch the "barbaric" marines play their "silly" game.

Crewman Jacob O'Hare sat and watched his instrument screen, he was responsible for a piece of equipment reminiscent of the century's old AEGIS system used by the Ancient United States...ambit a more advanced and suited for Space work.

When suddenly a new contact was received...he checked it against all known Ships in the Federal Data bank, and nothing...no matches.

He got on the Inter-ship Comm, and miked the Commanding Officer.

....Commander Mychy awoke to a ringing from his hard-line phone.

"Sir, you need to get to the bridge ASAP, there is something for you to see."
"I understand Ill be there shortly..."

It took only a few minutes and Commander Mychy was on the bridge, "Crewman, what do you have for me."
"Well sir, basically a new ship. It doesn't match any of the designs we have seen before."
"All right, prepare a introduction, drop out of slip space, and hail it."

A blue rip appeared out of no where, and electric bolts charged out of the rip, and soon later did the Frigate.

This is the Yukatan Frigate Alliance . We would like to know who are, and where you came from. And if we can be of any assistance.

The Sumatra-class Fast Battlecruiser Omicron sped through space, it's Stardrive engines pushing it beyond the speed of light.
Her commander, Captain Samantha Armarosa, sat in the centre of the Omicron's command bridge.
"Status report."
"All systems functioning normally sir." A crewman said.
Samantha nodded, "ETA to the Unknown contact?"
The crewman looked over his readout, "Another hour at current speed sir."
Samantha nodded again, "keep me posted. And when we're in range, check in with the 1010102 authorities, make sure we're allowed in."

IC:

"Yet another contact sir, we can actually get a bit of an idea what these people're saying. Something about Yukatan, and wanting to know what time it is. I think. Either the time, or the day. It's rather ambiguous, and mildly confusing. They're transmitting in what could ALMOST be Andaran, if it weren't for a couple of syntax changes, and some obviously different pronunciations."

The captain sighed, getting the feeling that he was going to be getting alot of these similar messages for some time. "Send them a reply, with a date and timestamp, as well as our affiliation with the Union, and our purpose."

We represent the Trans-Temporal Union of Sharona, and we arrived here by way of a previously entered hostile system. We are here to explore, and make contact with other nations, though we had no idea they would be so plentiful.

Included at the bottom of the message was a date and timestamp, fulfilling their misguided belief that the Yukatanians desired to know the time.

IC:

O'Hare looked at the response, "Why the hell did they include the date and time?!"
Mychy looked at the young crewman, "Who is to say? But it is valuable to know what day and time they consider it to be. Take this down and send it."

You will find out soon that nations are plentiful, and some hostile to anyone and anything. Who were these previously encountered hostiles? We would like to know more about your species and nations history.

The Frigate glided closer to the Newly discovered ship, weapon systems off, and hanger bays closed. Although an announcement was made through the ship, and Marines ran to Hard points and positions, and all Navy Personnel were at their stations egar to see what would come of this encounter.

"Aye sir, I'll include the data packets on the end of the message."

We are unaware as to the identity of the previously encountered hostile vessel. I have attached a brief rundown of our history, as well as physiological and societal data.

"Now... Let's see about these others...their reply was in perfect Ternathian? Good God they've sunk some money into translation systems... Bizarre identification system. I think that may be a sector designation. If so they have either a large number of microscopic sectors, or are massive beyond belief... Send our reply comms."

"Aye sir. I pray to the Gods that your first assumption is correct."

"As do I." The captain looked ashen, considering the prospect of a nation so massive that it had over 1,000,000 jurisdictions within it.

The Verdani Treeship hung in space as it absorbed the communications of the life forms, assesing their speech. It was similar to another race that it and the Worldforest had encountered before, but the universe is a big place, and as such was not surprising that Nature should repeat itself.

"Union of Sharona, we welcome you among space faring cultures, should you require assistance we may aid you so long as it does not bring another life into danger. We wish you success in your endeavour."

The pilot sat back, his wooden form melding seamlessly with the interior of the Treeship, it was good to meet a new race after so long, refreshing. In truth he had been surprised when the life sources had replied, too often the Verdani could only communicate with their human Green Priests, those special humans with the telepathic ability to tap directly into the Worldforest's mind and thus throughout the entire Verdani mind network. Clearly some of these life forms may be able to do the same, sometimes the link went one way or the other; being able to hear but not speak to the Verdani or vice versa, rarely did it work both ways.

The pilots surprise was further increased when a third group of life sources were felt at the extreme of his senses, preparing to send out a message to the new arrivals he remarked to himself, 'first time though here in a long time and already one new race and possibly two more, busy day'.

Lt. Sumter heard Mychy's order on his ear piece, "We have green light, Operation: Meeting, is a go!"

The Alliances' hanger doors opened up to the black of space, and the Dropship, 050, raised up and flew out. Aimed for the Ship of Sharona, it flew across the blackness and deepness of Space.

Inside the ship sat some nervous, but excited Marines, and one thinking ONI Spook.

He had been given no information on the Race he was about to meet, How should he act? What customs do the have? Well, he thought...I guess I'll learn soon enough.

As 050 sped toward the Sharona ship..Co-Pilot Kiwasi radioed to the Ship, This is Yukatan Marine Dropship "050" requesting Landing Coordinates to Ship's Hanger.
