Prime Minister Sir Phillip Sinclair and Minister for Defence Elliot Crompton strode briskly in the marble hallways of Kensington Palace.

"Our military is experiencing some problems," remarked Crompton.

"What do you mean by that?" inquired Sir Phillip. "Our military is amazingly well financed, with only the finest equipment. What more does the Ministry for Defence require of us?"

"The United Kingdom needs better soldiers," Crompton brusquely replied.

"More money into your training budget?" sighed Sir Phillip. "You know this goes through Parliament before it goes through me."

"Yes, sir," intoned Crompton. "But it's going towards a...different purpose. Have you heard of the Eurasian Institute for Guided Evolution?"

"Why, yes, I have..."

The pair stepped into a black Land Rover, which sped off onto the M25.

Sir Phillip and Elliot perambulated out of the chamber, enjoying their five minute recess throughly.

"We've done it, sir," Elliot whispered. "We boosted the training budget, and Parliament hasn't a clue why it's been done."

"Minister, it's an honour to have you here at HMAB Newcastle," smiled Field Marshal Moore, commander of the base. "But it's totally unexpected. Had you told us -"

"You would have been ready," interrupted Crompton, waving his hands. "We are beginning the tests of a new training regiment. I want all your soldiers to be given this." He held up a vial of clear liquid. "Vitamins."

Little did the Field Marshal know that those vials were full of genetically engineered viruses.

Sir Phillip leaned back in his chair as Crompton delivered his report.

"Project Nemesis has, so far, seen astounding success," declared Crompton proudly. "The division stationed in Newcastle has seen remarkable changes. Medical tests have shown significant leaps in IQ, increased stamina, greater lung capacity - it's mindblowing. The troops there can go for over five minutes without air, they've gained muscle control beyond our wildest dreams - they've never been so accurate, and these guys were renowned for the best marksmanship in the nation. The commanders have shown greate tactical prowess - I can't get over it."

"Calm yourself, Crompton," laughed Sir Phillip. "I've known you since that university Military Tactics class, and I've never seen you this excited."

"I know, sir."

"Dismissed."

As Crompton marched out of the room, he couldn't help but let out a laugh that chilled Sir Phillip to the bone.

OOC: If you read the lead in thread, this is entirely feasible (The Eurasian Institute for Guided Evolution). A virus alters the genetic structure of a cell, to create more viruses. However, I've altered the virus, which changes what it does - it now adds a DNA codon to the chromosomes.

OOC: After doing minimal research into Gene Therapy and Viral Vectors. I agree with BL that it is MT and possible. However the whole process wouldn't be without flaws, knockbacks and failures. To a name a few would include the bodies own Natural Immune System after all the Vector is a Virus and their is always the chance of the Immune System attacking the virus. Secondly after all this "Evolution" gudied or not. The Viral Vector could mutate and evolve causing a whole host of new problems. It sounds like a great RP and I wish you luck with it.

Sir Phillip relished the succulent taste of a egg sandwich - savouring the flavour, allowing it to melt in his mouth.

Nothing beats a good sandwich, he thought.

Interrupting this orgasmic orgy of taste was an urgent call from the Ministry for Defence. Pressing a button, the office's concealed speakers came to life.

"Sir," stated Crompton through the phone.

"Yes?" replied Sir Phillip.

"There's a slight problem with Project Nemesis."

"What is it?"

"We've had three soldiers who have suffered severe cranial damage due to Nemesis."

"Shit...how did it happen?"

"Overactive immune system - normally it would lead to something like arthritis, but the immune defences, somehow, tracked down affected neural tissue and destroyed it. We believe it's caused by a small error in transcription with the virus - it alters the protein markers on the cell."

"Damn - work on that."

"Yes, sir. Another problem - the Nemesis-effect ceased in seven soldiers."

"Damn, you're incompetent. What caused this one?"

"Well, the previously noted effects remain, but no new advances are being made. The body hunted down the virus and killed it. Antigens. We could utilise immunosuppresive therapy..."

"No. That defeats the purpose. Can't you try to develop some sort of 'universal antigen'?"

"We'll work on it."

OOC: Correct-but due to mutation and unforseen error, also a significant portion of those infected with the virus would also fall victim to severely crippling symptoms. Therefore, while such a program would be feasible-it would only be feasible in a small number, otherwise risking more than 50% of an entire military (killing millions ensured in the process).

An Airbus A380 took off from Kensington International Airport, the words "The United Kingdom of Eurasia" emblazoned on the side.

Sir Phillip sat on the second story of the airliner, where a library, lounge, and private restaurant had been installed. The Prince laid out on the table.

"Sir, Project Nemesis is encountering even more problems. The virus is now mutating wildly in seventy five women and sixteen men in that regiment, and the virus has moderately mutated in fifty more," Crompton announced sombrely.

"Which viral vector are we utilising?" inquired Sir Phillip.

"Retroviruses - cheap, quick to produce," replied Crompton. Sir Phillip buried his head in his hands.

"Also highly prone to this mutation. We barely understand how they make DNA out of RNA!" replied Sir Phillip. "Why not try it through the Adeno-associated viral vector? It would solve the problem regarding immunity, and might stop the mutations."

"It shall be done, sir."
