Zerenos System
It was your ordinary M-Class star, with an ordinary five planets and two asteroid belts. Four gas giants, three rock planets. One of them inhabited by a species in the midst of its industrial revolution. The system, for all intents and purposes, was unclaimed and unexplored... although several space-faring civilizations were getting close. None had found it yet... until now.
They were known as the Heiarchy Unification, they had been harvesting alien species ever since they moved away from their home system. They controlled up too several hunred systems, a few with habitable planets, most without. When they came accross a alien race, they determined its strength and technological level... and then made a decision. So far, every decision has been too harvest.
You see, the Heiarchy were not conquerers, they did not believe in enslaving or subjugating other races. Instead, they descended upon the selected planet and used their unique harvesting technology too strip it of all valuable mineral and organic resources... all of them.
And thus it was too be with this race.
Several Heiarchy ships dropped out of Hyperspace only 100,000 kilometers away from the planet. Within hours, the first Reaping Machines were down on the planet, disintergrating organic and mineral resources, converting it into energy, then beaming that energy back up too a orbiting Collection Ship where it would be converted into useful materials/equipment back on Heiarchy worlds and colonies.
The species tried too put up resistance, of course. They used repeating rifles and muzzle loaded, iron cannons with zero success. That just provided the Reaping Machines more too harvest. In the few cases where the species put up resistance reaching anywhere above 0.01% threatning to the Reaping Machines... they were vaporised by 'Devestator' Walkers plasma cannons.
Little did the Heiarchy know, another few space faring civilizations were going too stumble upon the Heiarchy in this system.
OOC2:
A little bit of info on my race:
Military: The Heiarchy is average when it comes too space combat(relying on partical beams and anti-matter missiles, with singularity weapons being investigated) but superb when it comes too surface combat. After all, they have never met another intergalactic power, but plenty of world-bound powers that they have subsequently harvested.
Economic: Their economy is a mixed bag. It relies on a combination of domestic resource mining, recycling, and harvestation of alien worlds. It is not completely reliant on any of these, although they do best at harvesting.
Diplomatic: The Heiarchy is a logical race that is not nessecarily war like. If they see a power of equal or stronger(or even a little weaker) in comparison to them, they try to negotiate. If the species is weak enough and not protected, however... then they try too harvest it.
History: They have never met another intergalactic power.
And then some rules:
NO 'thousand ship fleets', NO extravagent tech-wank or planet killers. Oh, and please give diplomacy a chance.

OOC: IC Post this time
IC:
The last volley of plasma drivers shredded into the pirate corvette, spraying its mechanical and electronic guts across the stars-returning to mother Nature what had originally been her own. The leading Defiant-class patrol craft zipped past the wreckage as a similar ship did the same, looping about. A Valiant-class carrier and Legacy-class battleship, the remainder of the fleet sent to deal with the nuiscance of those who had tried to defy Dominion law and run, loomed in the background of the glowing rubble. Another day, another death, another weapon load to rearm.
The battleship, dubbed the ADV Terracing Fire, drifted rather aimlessly as the space junk flashed against its shield bank. The behemoth dwarfed both patrol craft at over 1500 meters in length, and it was geared for combat. However, as oppressive and aggressive as the Amazonian Dominion was, in particular retrospect to space combat and boundries, they were also somewhat of an amiable race when it came to exploration. The Dominion had always been interested in exploring, which supplemented its economic growth, a major factor in the faction. The system didn't seem to have anything to boast, though-a world closer to the system's start did seem to have some resource potential though to be investigated.
The fleet began moving at half-impulse, closer towards the planet, when readings came up.
"Sir," the Fire's sensor officer reported, "contacts in orbit, unsure of what type."
"Keep shields at full, but stay at passive sensors," the Fire's captain, Commodore Markindul Phula, ordered. "We'll see if they're really anything useful, or just debris fields."
The small assembly proceeded forward towards the planet, several harvester droid craft readying in the Fire's bay, as well as several in the carrier's, in case the sensor blips were debris fields or ship carapaces with anything useful or intriguing.

The rest of the little harvesting 'fleet', if you could indeed call it that, had left just a single collector ship while the rest had returned to their staging space station. The Collector ship was a small one, only 400 meters(the biggest ship in the fleet was 5 kilometers... and it wasnt even a warship). It had basic scanners that were good up to halfway through the system.
It did not, however, posses any FTL detection, therefore it was quite a surprise to its crew when the alien ship appeared out of nowhere. But the Heiarchy were quick to react. They raised their shields(rather weak ones by even Heiarchy standards) and began to send a message back to a home system explaining the unexpected situation and requesting advice and reinforcements.
The alien ship, if it had the proper sensors, would detect the energy transfers from the surface. Every couple of hours, it was, however, sending a new transmission down to the surface. The transmission to the Heiarchy forces on the ground said:
'Cease harvesting and take up defensive positions.'
Then it began to back up, trying to put the planet inbetween it and the alien ship while it awaited instructions from the home spacestation.
OOC2: Got to go.

A small squadron of Solari Patrol/Missile Boats happened to be passing through the system on anti-pirate operations. Detecting a few ships that were totally unfamiliar to the ships AIs, they decided to move in under low power, and hopefully stealthed to a degree sufficient to avoid detection, to investigate. They were nowhere near as large as the other vessel, although they were likely faster and better armed.

"Active sensors," Phula ordered as the Fire closed to two million kilometers from the planet. "Hit up a probe to investigate before we move in to see what's up."
"Copy sir."
From the Fire's lead torpedo tube, a probe-a glowing blue orb, packed full of every sensor device known to the Dominion-was plugged in for firing, instead of a Positron Torpedo. With a flash, the probe was deployed, fired forth from the torpedo launcher. The sphere pulsed out blue bands of energy as it moved in closer to the planet's orbit and near space, pinging all its sensors as it launched a scan of the Collecter. Information was siphored back to the data relays on the Fire.

OOC: Sorry for taking so long.
IC: At first the Collector thought it was under attack, then they realised that the 'torepedo' was a sensor probe. The probe would detect that the Collector had no weapons, shielding that would not survive an explosion at or above 100 megatons, various transmitters, a rather advanced matter/antimatter reactor, some backup fusion reactors, and a hyperdrive system.
The standard Heiarchy Collector looked like a cylinder with some fancy markings, aswell as some transmitters for energy and/or messages. The probe would also detect the presence of Heiarchy Walkers if it had the proper equipment.

Sensor data streamed back to the Fire in droves, reporting on the Collector's external-and what of the internal it could detect-in sync with the ship's sensor suite.
"Pretty weak, overall, whatever that thing is that's rather large," reported the ship's sensor officer, "Thoughts?"
"Two rockets could probaly vape the shields," commented Phula, a wry grin on his face. "Obviously not a war vessel. No weaponry or offensive systems whatsoever. Less to worry about, I guess."
"Orders, cap'n?"
"Move us in closer to the planet. Let's see if we can tempt a response from the thing," Phula commanded. "If not, then we can hit readings of the planet."
The four-ship group moved in towards the planet, slowly, cautiously, impulse thrusters burning hot blue.

Five ships, one glowing bright blue, the four others a deep violet, traversed through WarpSpace, occasionally sending probes out to find some intelligent life.
On the bridge of the bright blue one, an X-1 dreadnaught called Xavier, a man sat in a chair, staring at a screen. The screen, showing ship statistics, wasn't necessary of course, he had subordinates, but he was the kind of guy that loved playing RTSs where you micromanage everything. His name was Drake Viscerara. He was a captain in the GAE Navy.
Just as Drake was about to turn off the screen, a beeping sound came from it. In the top right corner was a flashing panel. Drake pressed it and a face filled the screen. It was off a girl. The avatar of one of the Positronic ships, one of the frigates, probably the Hisnada. Drake looked at her and said, "What's wrong?" "We found a gathering of ships. There are no familiar signatures." The avatar said with a slight smirk on her face. Drake looked at her funny, and said, "Alright, drop out of WarpSpace, let's see what's happening."
Four of the ships dropped out of WrapSpace, one always remained in case of emergency. The four ships moved insystem, monitoring the other ships. No really powerful ships of course, but medium leveled ones, about the same as the X-1.

(ooc: my first rp on nsforums too, so we'll see how this goes)
To say that the Watcher was unhappy would be a gross understatement. They were ruining EVERYTHING! She had been on a rather nice exploration journey when she stumbled upon a rather pleasant M-class star that just happened to have a habitable planet. She was glad about this, for command was adamant that habitable planets must be found for study. Had she been capable of it, she would have shook with joy when she found out that the planet had life. Finding sentient life, well, that had just made her century. It was only natural that she detach from her ship and land on the surface to study the aboriginal beings. Yet her euphoria was short lived, as everything went to hell when THEY showed up. Sneaky, appearing in orbit so quickly that her ship only had minutes to warn her, with no time to leave. Even worse, when they landed they started to wreck everything. All the years of potential study materials, all the native wonders, all the new and strange people demolished. More ships appeared in orbit, strange ships with weapons. Then to rub salt into the wound one of the native asked for help. Of course the being hadn't asked her, but it had shouted it to the sky, which meant the being wanted someone to hear it. Damnations, this would not due. The protocols were clear, she'd have to contact command, and it was a simple guess as to what they'd do. They'd send in Those Who Fight, oh how she disliked them. But for all that, the thing that made her the maddest was that she'd been seen when she sent the signal. She really hated that...
It was a very short pulse, no more then a fraction of a second. But that didn't matter, even a laser pulse could be noticed and they were as short. The message we much more powerful then a pulse though, as sub-space distorted and singularities were created and destroyed. It was over very quickly, but anyone looking at the sky couldn't have missed the eerily beautiful pillar of light climbing into the heavens.

A Heiarchy Devestator Walker was heading towards The Watchers position. It had seen the flash her communication had sent out and was investigating the phenomenon.
The Heiarchydid no rely on massive armies for its ground forces. Instead, they went with fewer, but more flexible, large and medium sized walkers. The Devestator Walker was the standard vehicle in the Heiarchy Ground Forces. Sixty stories tall and painted red, they could be dropped from orbit and survive completely intact.
They could be equipped and re-equipped in specialised shops with long range anti-matter missiles, plasma cannons, particle beams, pure fusion missiles(with varying yeilds and ranges), shields, mass drivers, and point defense weapons. They were powered by a miniaturized fusion reactor.
This one was armed with particle beams, plasma cannons, and a few point defense lasers.

The Heiarchy Collector Ship was continuing to try and put the planet inbetween it and the approaching ships. Its crew was becoming increasingly nervous as more and more alien ships showed up. Then they finally recieved instructions from their home starbase. They sent a message to the alien ships.

10-02-2007, 22:28
Somewhere, deep withen the bowls of the Valde Ventus, whose paint still reflected the light of distant suns, pride of the Academy Navy and most advanced ship in the fleet, something went 'clonk'.
This was the ships first long-range shakedown cruise, and things were not going terribly well. First the portside T-guns had started to vent raw magical energy, turning a number of the gunnery crew into various birds or lizards. Then the long range comm crystal had cracked, blowing a six food diameter hole in the primary bridge, venting six men and the ships mascot Swamp Dragon, Know-Nothing-Bozo-The-Non-Wonder-Dragon, into space.
And to top it all off, the trans-planar drive had decided that this would be a good time to break.
And now...
"Captain! Ships on the long-range sensor!" The secondary bridge was significantly more cramped than the primary. However it had the advantage of not being exposed to space, thus allowing the command crew to do things like breath, and not implode.
The captain, a scholar from the Academy, sighed, "Let me guess. Horribly beweaponed space monsters have come to kill us." The man placed his chin on a hand and waved vaugly at the shield console, "Raise the shields. You may as well open a comm channel, I suppose. Find out what were in for."
"Errr....yessir." The comms operator was significantly more optimistic than the captain. His general opinion was that death would be a fairly quick affair on a ship, you either got blown up or vented into space, generally. That was better than most footsloggers had it.
"Unidentified ships...this is AFS Valde Ventus, we are on a mission of peace and have no hostile intent. We are presently conducting repairs on our long range transportation device, and will depart this area as soon as possible. Again, we are not hostile, and our intent is peaceful."

Phula was taken back a bit by the transmission as it streamed in-he hadn't been expecting what had looked a bit like possibyl droid space junk to actually try to communicate with him.
"Full stop," ordered Phula, as he took time to figure out the next move. "Link a transmission, active and live, to them."
The transmission recorder went on-audio and visual of Phula-as he spoke.
"This is the Amazonian battleship ADV Terrescing Fire. We weren't aware we were in claimed territory, but we do...apologize...for our intrusion, unaware. We would be glad to start laying down some sort of...negotiations...to begin communication between our two civilizations," Phula spoke, picking and choosing his words to be as diplomatic as possible.

She had to move and she had to do it fast. Even before the the now drained FTL comm had finished cooling the Watcher had already begun her escape from the area. As much as she disliked Those Who Fought, she couldn't help but feel grateful that she had been constructed on one of their chassis. A vaguely humanoid design she was a roughly 4 meter tall mass of curves and bulges. Smashing through the trees and undergrowth did nothing to her form. Indeed, built with the borderline paranoia of most Foundation units, her body was highly reinforced and well armored with many redundant systems. In place of the barrier systems (though she still had some), energy projectors, and anti-grav packs she had better sensors, extra generators, and even a cloak. A cloak she couldn't use, however, until she got away from the remaining energy distortions her transmission had made. Worse, the same distortions were playing hell with her senses. So for now, all she could do was run around blind and hope to get out of the area before she got noticed.
Unknown Space, Aprox. 45 light years from Kerenos
Of the various bodies she'd been in the AT-31G Battle Wagon was not her favorite. Now the FA-12 Sting Ship of her youth, that had been an experience. But that was neither here or there, this was the body she had gotten to command. She felt herself again and sighed. Partly from impatience as she waited for her singularity generator to recharge, partly from annoyance as various underlings queried her for information on the possible combat. While she was designated a battle wagon, armament wise she was little better then a heavy cruiser. In place of a proper armament she carried 24 assault bays, each housing Those Who Fight. Normally she'd have no problem playing school bus to ground fighters, but most of them were green, fresh out of the rookery. There was hope though, while 23 were constructs working towards their citizenship, the 24th was a soul. An souls didn't transfer into battlers unless they were seasoned. So hopefully he could whip the greenhorns into shape before she jumped into this Kerenos system. And hopefully they'd get there in time to save the Watcher and sort out what was happening on the ground.

((Maybe two of those planets are not 'ordinary' for their kind. I count ~14 ships in the system so far.))
A frigate and three corvette class vessels appeared at the edge of the system, a jump conduit closing behind them in a flash of space vapors. The jump would register as a large energy blip on most void born sensor grids. The 'jump cloud' dissipated quickly as the ships were moving forward under their own momentum.
The ships began to scan the system, their sensor range was able to cover the whole system at a glance, deeper scans would require closer contact. They did pick up a variety of ships, all unknown designs. They detected active shields on some, no active weapons. They held position near a planet one globe away, out of weapon's range of any ship, and waited to see what transpired.
They were extending the Dominion's reach, but there were always other space faring species in the way.

The Devestator Walker reached the location where it had seen the transmission to find... nothing. It swept the area with its sensors and found a few lifeforms, none of them a threat. It used a longer range sensor, which couldnt really pick out individual life forms and found a nearby settlement, town sized. A good harvesting location, so it sent a transmission to a nearby Reaper Machine Unit.
The Reaper Machines were about four stories tall and armed with nothing except their disintergration tools and transmitters. The Reapers were not aswell armored as the Devestator's, but they could hold their own against this planets armies.
The Reaper Machines began to head for that town almost at once, intending to harvest it.

Jump Anomaly, Approx. 1 AU from Kerenos 2
Anyone looking towards away from Kerenos 2 would notice a distortion in the field of stars, as if they were floating of a turbulent sea. Before anyone would have much time to ponder this oddity the distortion vanished, replaced by a blinding sphere of energies. The mass of exotic particles instantly expanded to a diameter of hundreds of kilometers before collapsing just as fast. Where the tear in space had been there was only a ship, nearly a kilometer in length and bristling with energy projector and assault bays.
As the last of the exotic particles burned away and went back to where ever they came from the ship checked herself over. Engines, barriers, projectors, power plants, S generators, all nominal. Now for her charges, "Battler 1, how are the others?" Behind armored doors and reinforced cradles one of the 24 passengers briefly linked with the others before responding, "All good ma'am, some are a bit... I guess you could call it queasy from this jump, but not as many as from the last jump. I've gone over the last dozen simulations I've run them through and have assembled a rough report is you'd like ma'am." Pleasure circuits warmed at the thought of a competent protege, "Yes, I'd like that. Please go on..." The ship partitioned part of her awareness to that task as her sensor fed information to her.
"Hmm... there are more vessels here then in the Watcher's report, and all the new ones look to be warships. This could be interesting." Bringing her engines to power ship slid her bulk into a path that would put her into orbit in the least amount of time. A feeling of safety warmed over her as barrier systems became active and energy projectors configured themselves to point defense. She held back powering up her AM lance, however. If she needed gigatons of firepower then she might as well call for the rest of the fleet. So onward she went, waiting for events to unfold.

Harvest operations... This space-faring nation that claimed dominion over this territory was new to interstellar ship design, as their transmissions were not directed. This flaw would make them easy prey to one who concentrates their power in the void. For a race that also enjoyed 'harvesting' a planet's resources, it also led to conflict with 'smaller' races. There were too many ships in the system to take direct action. Even with the firepower that their ships could bear, the small Order scouting fleet would not be able to manage the destruction of all the vessels arrayed before them without being destroyed in turn. Perhaps if they waited long enough, the others would vacate this space and then they could take the system from these 'younglings'.

"Harvest operations? Of what sort?" Phula inquired. He wasn't particularly interested, but it was more exciting that blowing up pirates day after day after day...sometimes even destruction became tiring.
The fleet was aware of the other ships entering system, but the ones that appeared on sensors so far were all unknown. The crews were unconcerned, as no one else was directing in any movement or motions towards the area the Amazonians were.

Standing amongst a grove of trees a top a hill the Watcher considered her plight. She had gotten her message off some time ago without incident and had been able to get far enough away to engage her cloak. She did attract some attention though, attention she didn't want. She could clearly detect a very large piece of machinery in the area and from her sensor readings it didn't seem very friendly. The behemoth was an annoyingly eye catching red and looked like some of the ancient Titan walkers she'd learned about in her history downloads. It didn't seem to have found her trail through the undergrowth but still seemed to be searching. She shuddered as an active sensor flowed over her but it still didn't seem to notice her position. She relaxed as the walker shifted its attention elsewhere. Then she saw it, the raising dust cloud on the horizon. A sinking feeling grasped her circuits as she upped her sensors magnifications and let out a quick ping of active search waves. The harvester machines were coming to the village near where she had used her FTL comm. They were going to annihilate the village because of her. That would not do. In an explosion of branches she raced from out of the grove not caring that her cloak was flickering. She had to reach the village before they did.

((Time to continue. DO ship info (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=8381392#post8381392)))
Hours past and tensions mounted, all sides holding their breath over the coming conflict. The lead elements of a currently active fleet on duty were pulled in by the transmission. Three frigates and their escort corvettes were the first to enter the system. A cruiser came a half an hour later, followed by another cruiser with escorts. Finally a capital ship, another cruiser, and their escorts jumped in. The scouting party joined the forming fleet. From the transmission to when the fleet was assembled was a little less than twenty-four galactic standard hours.
Fleet:
Capital Ship x1
Cruiser x3
Frigate x4
Corvette x15
The transmission was sent out again.

OOC: Go ahead. Red Tide isn't showing up...and frankly, a thread without its creator in such context isn't the greatest...

((I agree.))
The other ships in the system left, not wanting to start another war, leaving the Dominion of Draconic Order to claim the system.
