Former Ariddian leader hospitalised
Transcript of latest news bulletin

Jean-Carl Luthier (presenter): “There is still no news from the hospital, after Comrade Aj Ud (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Aj_Ud) was admitted over two hours ago. Former Prime Secretary Comrade Ud is 94. He was admitted to hospital after a fall at home left him with a broken left wrist.

Hospital staff have indicated that Mr. Ud’s condition is not serious, but that any operation on a person of his age may lead to complications.

The nation is waiting anxiously for further news. Prime Secretary Ud governed Ariddia for four and a half decades, serving nine consecutive terms until he eventually resigned at the age of 87. By the time he stepped down, many Ariddians had known no other leader. He still enjoys tremendous popular support, and there is widespread concern about his well-being.

“He’s like everybody’s favourite great-grandfather,” one young Ariddian woman told us, looking distinctly worried.

Comrade Ud is an Indigenous Ariddia, and many in Ariddia have prided themselves in being governed by a member of the country’s Indigenous minority. He has no children of his own, and lives with his younger sister’s 35 year-old grandson and the latter’s family.

Nor is it the first time Mr. Ud is hospitalised. His worsening health hampered him in the final years of his government, and was an important factor in his decision not to seek re-election for a tenth term in office. Fourteen years ago, at the age of 80, he had been hospitalised after a heart attack.

Ariddia’s current Prime Secretary, Comrade Nuriyah Khadhim, has expressed her wish that her predecessor will make a full and rapid recovery, and has re-iterated her deep respect for a leader she has always admired.

For now, the nation awaits further news. We’ll be keeping you informed.”
