Royal Dutch Shell Discovers Vast Petrol Reserve

One hundred and ninety billion barrels of oil have been discovered beneath the waves of the Black Gold Sea, according to the Eurasian Energy Agency.

A Royal Dutch Shell survey team, after three months of extensive surveying, discovered the vast oil reserve.

"It was really thrilling," stated Aoi Suzuki, the project leader. "This find rivals the Caspian Sea in terms of reserves, and it hasn't even been tapped yet. This will be miraculous for the world in terms of lowering oil prices. When I first read the final data charts, I couldn't help but gibber. We sent the information over to Kensington [the capital of Eurasia] so they could verify it."

The Eurasian government reviewed the findings and sent out another survey vessel, which verified the results, though their estimate is approximately one hundred and eighty five barrels.

"Estimating oil reserves is a vague and unclear business," stated Olivia Quinn, Minister for Trade and Industry. "The values quite frequently will differ. For instance, we had an ExxonMobil team evaluate the site at two hundred and fifty billion barrels. Unfortunately, it was a deliberate error, though we would have been thrilled for that much petroleum to be in our territorial waters."

Sir Phillip Sinclair, Prime Minister of Eurasia, announced that sixty two point seven barrels would become the property of the United Kingdom and would be drilled by that government, but the remainder of the oil would be auctioned off to the highest bidder, as long as that bidder was friendly to the UK.

Oil Prices In Eurasia Plummet

Due to Eurasia's status as the first nation to recieve the influx of the new oil finds, the price of oil in that nation has plummeted to one pound sterling per litre.

The news of this price drop has been met with great enthusiasm in Eurasia, despite their low usage of petrol.

"Amazing," stated Holly Smith, mother of three. "I can finally afford to take my kids to their football matches in Northolt [from Kingston]. Bliss indeed."

However, there have been some worries from Eurasian authorities.

"We have to monitor the consumption of petrol," stated Sir Phillip Sinclair, prime minister, in an interview yesterday. "Despite the newfound reserves, the petrol has strategic importance, and we can't squander that through hedonistic usage of petrol."

Eurasia thanks Zaïre for its interest in our oil. However, we have yet to fully recover all of this vast reserve. We are actually auctioning off the rights to the recovery of eighty billion barrels. Essentially, you would be buying the right to drill in our territorial waters.

With the orders confirmed the Corporation dispatched its Oil Exploration Fleet which comprised of several large attack submarines that would unleash weapons never seen used on civilians. Shares in Imperial Oil & Gas Plc. jumped 4.5% yesterday as the Eurasian Government confirmed that the company's http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v387/Praetonia/CrownSymbolforums.png60 billion bid for an estimated eighty billion barrels of Eurasian reserves has been successful. At a modest selling price of twenty Crowns per barrel, the 15s/barrel deal is expected to earn the company just over 1 1/2 trillion Crowns before operating costs and tax.

The deal has transformed the company's Hydrocarbons Division from a small national and colonial concern into a major transnational extraction and explorations company. It was expected that IO&G, whose main income comes from its Engineering division, would end its involvement in oil extraction after its Praetonian and colonial oil fields begin to deplete over the next few decades.

Now, however, the company has unveiled a new exploration plan and an intention to bid aggressively for foreign oil fields. The possibility of divesting the oil and gas business into a second company has also been discussed by some shareholders, but the board has remained silent on the issue.

The sale is also good news for the Eurasian economy, according to Imperial Oil & Gas Chairman Lord Shrewsbury, saying that "Imperial Oil & gas is perfectly placed to exploit this superb oppurtunity and we fully intend to make the most of the excellent trading environment in Eurasia by constructing our refineries there. We expect to create more than ten thousand jobs in Eurasia over the next few years, and bring in skilled Praetonian geologists to set a firm figure on the total reserves available for extraction."

Lord Shrewsbury also highlighted potential knock-on benefits for the Eurasian government. "[IO&G] have a great deal of experience exploiting Praetonian oil reserves. We would be more than happy to share our knowledge with the Eurasian state oil company for an appropriate price. We would also be willing to sell the Eurasians oil rigs produced in IO&G plants. We may even build some new rig production facilities in Eurasia if firm orders are anticipated."

Although the world oil price is likely to drop slightly as a result of this find, there is likely to be no additional lowering of oil prices in Praetonia, with a statement issued by Imperial Oil & Gas in the wake of the successful bid indicating that continuing long-term contracts with the KLM still represented the best deal for the Praetonian market and pledging to continue to import KLM oil.
