History

No-one is really sure of the genetic origin of the Ribenan people, the Kingdom today contains people of all races and an exact source is not known. What is suggested is that a ragtag fleet of transport ships from dozens of nations escaped Earth in the last moments and settled on Lesser Ribena. For many decades the people toiled hard to provide enough food for the colony to survive and grow and eked out a pleasant enough existence as a free republic. However sometime in the late 22nd century a worldwide disaster, known only as the Great Salvation, befell the people and many died. The government fell into anarchy and it was only through the actions of one man that the colony survived. This man, known only as George, led the people to rebuild their ruined cities and construct new farms. Within twenty years the colony was back on its feat and many were considering taking to the skies once more in spacecraft, though this dream lay a while off yet.

The leader was proclaimed as the Emperor of Lesser Ribena and through his guidance the Empire grew great and technological advances were made. A new senate was created to act as advisors to the Emperor and although he held overall control of the colony he was powerless without the elected body which satisfied the people's need for democracy. The Emperor grew more and more reclusive as the years rolled by and though his descendents still rule the Empire and issue mandates to the people they have never been seen outside the sprawling Imperial Palace and only a close group of inheditary servants now see the Emperor in the flesh, though the people are all familiar with his voice through the daily broadcasts of the state of the nation.

The current Emperor is George XI (all descendents being known as George after the first leader), he has ruled since 2285 when the last Emperor is presumed to have passed away. His rule has been marked by greater concentration on the sciences and improving the Empire's mighty spacefleet. The Emperors have all been known to be obsessed with the ancient Greek and Roman civilisations of Earth's past and many aspects of the Empire are modelled after these great peoples.

It is Ribenan policy to not recognise any claims to systems where the claiming nation does not have a significant civilian population (ie an outpost minimum) or construction of facilities for one is not undertaken. All Ribenan claims are accompanied by at least one outpost.

09-02-2007, 21:19
A delegation from the Great House of Whittlesfield arrive in the Jump system, hoping to establish healthy relations with Lesser Ribena. The Greco-British Whittlesfield has much in common with the British Lesser Ribena, so it is hoped a prosperous friendship can be formed.
Lesser Ribena is also politely asked to drop its claims on Whittlesfield's home system of Maaduura, as well as the nearby star systems of Veejay and Wescap, and in return, Lesser Ribenan vessels may pass through any system, save Maaduura, without restriction, and are allowed to dock and refuel at ports belonging to the House of Whittlesfield.
Lesser Ribena
10-02-2007, 01:30
The Whittlefieldian (?) delegation is met at one of the many Ribenan spaceports. As one of the first foreign delegations to personally visit Lesser Ribena they are honoured by a meeting with the reclusive Emperor, George XI. The claims to all Whittlefieldian claimed systems will be dropped and the fleets sent elsewhere (I'll TG GB). In return it is asked that Whittlesfield allows Ribenan ships to pass through its systems (excluding homesystem) unhindered and allowed to refuel, all Whittlefield flagged ships will have the same privilages in Ribenan space (not homesystem). The possibility of further diplomatic relations is also raised and it is noted that an alliance between the nations would be looked upon favourably, though a non agression pact would suit for now.

Whittlesfield is informed that Lesser Ribena is looking to the colonisation and commercial useage of Sector H and would welcome a joint venture there, given that Whittlesfieldian space lies between Lesser Ribena and that sector.

OOC: I changed my nation from British based to a more mysterious empire, though it was pretty recently changed. Sorry I always foregt to check my TGs.
Whittlesfield
11-02-2007, 22:17
The Ribenan Emperor is told that the House of Whittlesfield would be interested in colonisation and commercialisation of Sectors G, H, and L, and would welcome a co-operative relationship with Lesser Ribena, one which would be mutually beneficial.
An alliance would also be favourable for the Noble House, and a Non-Aggression Pact will be signed right away.
Lesser Ribena
11-02-2007, 22:49
The Non-Agression Pact is marked with the seal of the Empire and passed immediately. An alliance is drawn up which states the cooperative intentions of both nations in colonisation of sectors G, H and L. It also states that all current claims in sector K are to be fully recognised by both parties. The document also states that one nation will come to the others aid if the other has war declared upon it by a third party. Finally the alliance includes provisions for full travelling rights for all vessels belonging to either faction in eithers systems (including home systems). This alliance is seen as acceptable by the Emperor who signs it and is passed to the representative of the Noble House of Whittlesfield for examination. Changes can of course be made to the text if required, though the Emperor is keen to see further cooperation between both factions.

A request to place Ribenan observers on board Whittlesfield navy vessels is made, a reciprocal agreement would of course allow observers from Whittlesfield to be stationed aboard Ribenan vessels.

12-02-2007, 00:13
The Noble House of Whittlesfield signs the alliance with Lesser Ribena, and agrees to station Ribenan observers on its vessels.
It is also suggested that plans are made for next years colonisations, where joint efforts can be made to colonise new sectors.
