History

At the beginning of the 21st Century, Earth was facing a major crisis. Global warming, environmental damage and wars threatened the entire planet. Yet there was also hope. Rapid advances in technology enabled the colonization of the stars. Several multi-national corporations saw all this and decided that the situation on Earth was quickly becoming unprofitable. They pooled their resources and funds together and decided to use a jump gate to get to the Affuel System. Along with taking their employees and families, millions of spots were offered to literally the highest bidders. They arrived at the main planet in the system and created the Capitalist Republic of No Taxes. The first decades were very hard with a high mortality rate and low levels of technology. The corporations effectively controlled everything and things looked grim for Harinder.

Beginning in the 2100s, the situation begin to improve. Democratic reforms were initiated and the grip of the corporations on the government was loosened. Yet the event that really jumpstarted development was the arrival of New Shiron. Embassies were established and New Shiron provided technological aid. Growth continued at a reasonable pace throughout the 2200s, and in the last 10 years the population and economy have grown enormously. Technologically, No Taxes is now more advanced than Earth during the Diaspora. With elections coming soon and the Space Fleet growing, questions linger as to how No Taxes will interact with other nations in the star sector.

i dont think you and build on the main world. I remember reading that your NS nations economy is what your main world produces, thats it. However, I do think you can build orbital platforms of death on your home planet.

February, 2300, Harinder

The Capitalist Republic of No Taxes, in response to claims by other nations, claims the star systems of Aliinasha, Leroy, Vidma and Nike. Scouting squadrons are being sent out towards these star systems, to be followed by ground units and colonization teams. Using new jump technology, these ships will take only one month to arrive in the systems.

Elections have just been held in No Taxes, though voter turnout was low at 63%. The Liberal Democratic Party which had previously been the majority party in Parliament fell to hold only 42% of the seats. The Worker's Party came in second with 31% of the seats and the Conservative Party gained 29% of the seats. It is expected that the Liberal Democratic Party will form a governing coalition with the Conservative Party.

In the Presidential elections, the Conservative Party candidate Dion Mathis was surprisingly elected with 52% of the popular vote. He is expected to try and push through an increase in the Defense Budget and encourage increased colonization measures.

April, 2300

The various scouting and colonization fleets have arrived at their destinations in the systems Lerun, Vidma, Aliinashar, and Nike with the No Taxes flag planted in all of them. Military units have fortified themselves in the systems and construction is underway on the various outposts and Naval Bases that will be built in these systems. The President Dion Mathis has issued a statement calling this a "great day" for No Taxes.

Snu Reaction to Azania Invasion

Middle Snu condemns No Taxes for the unwarrented, immoral invasion of Azania. Calling it a "blatant act of imperialist conquest against a peace-loving people," the Snu Ambassador-General calls upon the nations surrounding No Taxes to exert diplomatic and economic pressure on No Taxes to force it to leave Azania in peace.

Middle Snu also places an embargo on No Taxes, and urges all other nations to do the same until No Taxes leaves Azania.

We are simply bringing the benefits of civilization to the Azanian people. We gave them the chance to accept our forces peacefully, but they chose to resist and we were forced to take harsher action. All we want to do is increase their standard of living and install a planetary democratic government. After one year, we will leave with only one outpost and a garrison unit stationed on one of the moons and the Azanians will be free to govern themselves democratically. We shall be spending our own money to increase the Azanian's life and several years from now, their life expectancy should have increased by 45 years and they will be a space-faring nation. How is wanting to give the Azanian people a unified, democratic government and a better way of life immoral?

Unofficial Response of the Snu Foreign Ministry

Azlatan already had a planetary government. Claims that No Taxes's goal was to install one are clearly stupid.

Invading Azlatan to give them new technology is clearly the single stupidest explanation ever (except for the above "install planetary government" explanation). IF No Taxes's goal was to give the Azlatani new technology, it could have simply given it new technology, as opposed to invading the world.

OOC: Remember, this is all happening on New Shiron. The Snu government has not even sanctioned its ambassador's comments yet, he is acting on his own initiative.

We offered to give them this technology peacefully, in exchange for a military garrison there, but they refused the offer. They also only had a UN-like planetary government, which as we all learned from Earth before the Diaspora, doesn't do too much.

Public opinion polls show that 42% of respondents are in favor of the war in Azania, 41% are against, while 17% have no opinion. 37% of respondents are in favor of the Alurza Main War, 35% are against and 28% have no opinion."
