Iceland has a relatively strong, Scandinavian-type economy, based almost entirely on fishing, although aluminium is also an export. Despite having an incredibly capitalistic system, Iceland also has extremely good social security and welfare systems in place. Iceland's economy is vulnerable to fluctuations in the prices of fish and aluminium on the world market to a massive extent, because of this it is planned to begin exporting hydroelectricity to Europe via a submarine cable to offset some of Iceland's dependance on world markets.
Despite this, Iceland remains against joining the European Union, namely because it is unprepared to surrender control of it's fishing rights and territories to the EU.
Military:
No regular armed forces beside Icelandic National Police, Icelandic Coastguard and Icelandic Crisis Response Unit.
