Iceland has a relatively strong, Scandinavian-type economy, based almost entirely on fishing, although aluminium is also an export. Despite having an incredibly capitalistic system, Iceland also has extremely good social security and welfare systems in place. Iceland's economy is vulnerable to fluctuations in the prices of fish and aluminium on the world market to a massive extent, because of this it is planned to begin exporting hydroelectricity to Europe via a submarine cable to offset some of Iceland's dependance on world markets.
Despite this, Iceland remains against joining the European Union, namely because it is unprepared to surrender control of it's fishing rights and territories to the EU.

Military:

No regular armed forces beside Icelandic National Police, Icelandic Coastguard and Icelandic Crisis Response Unit.

Kiwiland Message to the Republic of Iceland

Having recently shook off our isolationist foreign policy, the peaceful United Empire of Kiwiland wishes to establish diplomatic relationships with the people of Iceland. We are particularly keen on fostering trade between our nations, and would be honoured if you would allow us to buld an embassy in your country.

For the same reasons, we also invite your government to establish an embassy at our capital Osaka. All construction costs will be paid by HM the Emperor, with revenues from the Crown Lands.

Diplomatic Communique from The Nordic Kingdom

To: Republic of Iceland

The Nordic Kingdom has decided to expand our diplomatic network, and as we're one of your neighbors we feel that it's important to have good relations. We want to exchange embassies with the Republic of Iceland, and hopes you agree to this. You are welcome to establish an embassy in our capital Stockholm, and if you want to you're also welcome to establish consulates in Copenhagen, Helsinki, Oslo and Nuuk (Greenland).

Should you agree to this, Mr. Arne Sjögren will be appointed to be the Nordics Ambassador in the Republic of Iceland.

On behalf of King Carl Gustaf XXI,

His Imperial Majesty is currently sending out envoys to the lands of the West to establish some form of contact in order to exchange embassies and allow for formal diplomatic relations. Is your government willing to acquiesce?
