La Republica de Amazon

Geography and Physical Features

Brazil and Uruguay, the two countries comprising the Republica de Amazon (Shorthand: Amazonian Republic), have a vast and bountiful ecology and environment. Much of Brazil is dominated by the extensive Amazon Rainforest, a lush tropical forest with the highest rainfall average per year, over 300 inches. The Amazon River, second longest river in the world, streams through the forest before depositing in the Amazon Basin in northeastern coastal Brazil.
The coastal areas of Brazil and Uruguay are saturated by sandy beach. Though some arid parts are in Brazil, much of the South of Brazil and Uruguay are dominated by plains. Southern Brazil, in the higher elevations, sometimes experiences even frost and snow.
The Amazonian Federation has a total area of 8,691,092 square kilometers.

People and Politics

OOC: I had to improv a little with this to satisfy Uruguay's coming in, which would've never happened with the unstable 1890s Brazilian government.

The Republic has a total population of 22.89 million people. The population is a mix of Portuguese, Spanish, and native decent, forming a unique "American" blend. The national language is Portuguese. Recently, however (since 1875), there has been an influx of Italian, German, Middle Eastern, and Japanese immigrants, forming small minority communities.
The capital of the Republicn is located in Rio de Janeiro, in the Southern Brazil Province. Six Provinces (5 Brazilian and former Uruguay) form the Republic. The largest cities in the Republic are Rio, followed by Sao Paulo, Montevideo, and Brasilia. After the government was stabilized after over a decade of turmoil, Uruguay joined the fold, and the National Congress was changed to the Republic Congress. All six Provinces get 15 representatives to the unicameral Congress, a total of 90 representatives.
The Chancellor, and his second, the State Minister, rule over the country. The current president is Deodoro da Fonseca, the field marshal who had ended the Brazilian empire.

Economics

Brazil, formerly the strongest economic country in South America, has combined its economic strength with Uruguay to form a formidable economic power in South America. With high earnings in agricultural profits, from northern provinces in forest crops to the plains crops and livestock in the South, agricultural profits are a huge plus. Textile and wool industries are also high. Oil is a small-time commodity, as Uruguay province maintains a somewhat profitable oil market. Mining, in the areas of tin and iron, are also somewhat profitable.

Economic Goals

The Republic government has geared up for a swath of privatization plans in the next century's early years, in the hopes to boost an already profitable economy. Industrial plans are also slated, as the government hopes to capitalize already on small-time industry and make the Republic into the premier industrial center in the Southern Hemisphere in the next two decades. Agricultural profits will continue to be the prime source of exports until industrial exporting becomes profitable enough to sustain itself as a major Amazonian supply.

OOC Note: Not finished yet. Military to come later. More Politics to come later.
