Anargyros Mamilis' calendar was filled to the brim, with almost a speech a day throughout the entire country. His private jet would literally play ping pong across the Republic for the next few months, especially with the resurgent Combine Party nipping at the heels of the Progressive Coalition like never before. The party could not afford to lose this one, with the Cypriot War now in full swing Combine dominance may very well cripple the Republic, sending it into a period of decay that would leave it unable to prevent a Combine move to reestablish the Peoples' Republic, or worse, a Armandian puppet state, as everyone knew that the Combine's new source of money was in Moscow, they just did not have a way to prove it.

The Populist Party headquarters bustled with activity, the elections presented themselves as a time for a new rebirth of the Party. The party stood up to Hellenic Communist just ten years ago, allowing the first free elections since the fifties. Their demise came however with the rise of the charismatic Stavros Panagiotis Solterris, rising to the presidency and his Hellenic Coaltion of Progressives coming to power in the National Assembly. The headquarters now had an aura of activity and hope to it, with the rise of a new generation of Populists, who focused on the economy, and the war, the issues that most interested the populace. Once a massive, lumbering bohemoth, the party slimmed down, and was much more efficent, focusing on their strong areas, where they actually had a shot at winning, rather than making a national campaign, in which they did not have a chance.

OOC: I am going to RP as these two parties, everyone else please pick a party to control for the election. I figure that Armand will control the Combine. In the poll vote for who you think will win, not who you want to win. Also, do not vote until you have read my factbook. (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=511997&highlight=Solterris)

OOC: I guess since no one has volenteered I will RP as the others as well.

IC: "God, these f***ing Armandians are getting on my nerves. They are whittling away at our power base." The older party official swore. The Combine party just won a opinion poll in a traditionally Soviet stronghold. This resurgence in the Combinist power caused a drop in the quality and quantity of Soviet Party supporters. The younger members slowly jumped ship, as they no longer saw the Hellenic Communists as the party of their old fathers, but a new, hip political machine, on the cutting edge of Greek society. For the Soviets, the options were clear, do or die, and right now, die held a lead, but if they could somehow prove the Armand connection, they could swing the balance, and if they could prove a Contosian link, the Soviets would be sitting atop the country, for the first time in their long history.

Any politocal movement in Greece that opposes Progressive elements would soon find Quinntonian money streaming in, enough to launch a campaign that would be able to cross all media forms in new and exciting ways. Also, Quinntonian image consultants and political advisors descend on the nation to help every anti-imperialist that they could find, right down to the lowest levels of government and right up to the top.

Every Greek celebrity that money could buy was asked to support anti-Prog movements in their constituencies and at the national level, as well lobby groups springing up everywhere that launched ads on everything from print to radio to television to podcasting that used the brutal images and statistics of the former Greek regime to remind people why their freedom was so important.

In the key districts, both the Populist and the Progressives started running advertisements connecting the Combine with the Contosians in Cyprus, causing their popularity to drop among voters, however, they still held a slight advantage over the two in the districts.

Current Opinion Polls across the Republic:

Combine Party: 33%
Coalition of Hellenic Progressives: 30%
Populist Party: 23%
Soviet Party: 10%
Popular Orthodox Rally: 4%

OOC: No Problemo, just a note though, if things continue to go bad for the non-Communists (CHP and PPHR) they may unite and help fund the Soviets, in hopes of stopping a resurgent HCP (Hellenic Communist Party)

With the days before the election coming to the end, the Cypriot War has come to the forefront of the election. Kyriakos Iason Vozorias, a young canidate for the Populist ticket in a predominatly Progressive district, had taken the lead thanks to a condemnation of the War, calling it a illegal tragedy and a scar on the history of the Republic. This attack struck a chord with the voters, many of whom were disgusted with the bitter partisanship that the Coalition showed to their rivals.

National Opinion Polls as they stand:

Coalition of Hellenic Progessives: 30%
Combine Party: 28%
Populist Party: 28%
Soviet Party: 13%
Popular Orthodox Rally: 1%

OOC: Which is the party which supports German and Quinntopia? I will start to get more involved. You seriously have 3 soviet parties vying for power in your country? Can you brief him on the basic platforms of the various parties?

IC:

Sensing a change in the winds within Greece, Chancellor Shultz acts immediately to curtain the dangerous might of the Soviets. He recalls the ineffectual German ambassador back to Germany and sends one of his most trusted men in his stead. Felix von Brückner, a no nonsense pragmatic German politician was promptly put on a plane and dispatched to Greece. Upon arrival, he talked with all the aides and tried to get a feel for Greek politics. He immediately sent feelers out to Iason Vozorias, the young Populist, and inquired about his feelings toward the Soviets, and possible improved relations with Germany. He did the same for Stavros Panagiotis Solterris, leader of the Progs.

Felix von Brückner fought side by side with Quinntopian in Dra-pol and strangled more than one Soviet supported scum with his bare hands. He could be a powerful supporter and or a dangerous opponent to those who stood in this way.

Yeah, this is like 41% Socialist supporters in your nation. I have already posted the massive Quinntonina support that the non-Socialists are getting, and hell, it is tim to unite them in a coalition to wipe out the Commies! And once they get into power, a concerted effort to wipe them out would not be a bad thing.

IN the final days of the elections, massive attack adds showing pictures of Combine forces sailing into the Atlantic to take part in massive sea campaigns, millions of Soviets being prepared for transport to Africa, with it all being pointed to as the next wave of African Imperialism.

Wave after wave of the Quinntonian citizens with dual Greek/USQ citizenship are being flown back to Greece for the voting, and lodged in hotels that just happen to be located in socialist strongholds and swing districts. All of this is being paid for by concerned Quinntonian parties, with donations and cash coming into all of the anti-Socialist movements in a steady stream, and the Quinntonian ambassadors calling press conferences to raise the possibility of full economic cooperation between a capitalist Greece and the USQ/Germans. This includes some off-handed comments about an announcement coming up as to which nation(s) will receive this years’ billions in economic aid from WEC, along with hundreds of Quinntonian business leaders being flown into the nation to do speeches, in Greek, which again is taught in all Quinntonian schools, about the importance of economic cooperation in these times of uncertainty.

Of course, with a militaristic Yugoslavia on your border and Holy League states threatening your very existence, both USQ and Germany would love to offer their friendship and protection, should the elections come out in favour of a strong anti-Communist stance.

Fireworks shot into the air as the Progressives anthem played loudly out of the stage's stereos. The morale of the Coalition's headquarters was jubuliant, having not only defeated the menace of the newly-resurgent Communist/Combine Party but also a Populist Party that was ready to fight back for the spot as the primary Republican faction. A giddy campaign director stepped up to the podium, and tapped the microphone a few times to get the attention of the celebrating workers.

"Ladies and gentlemen of the Coalition of Hellenic Progressives, not only have we defeated our Communist rivals, but also have bested our fellow Republicans, the Populists, a victory that can only be seen as astounding.” He continued, “Without your help we could not have won such a victory. Our candidates would’ve failed. Without you, our ground forces in our war, our troops in Cyprus would face defeat, be it at the hands of the Combine and their Contosian allies. Today marks a new era in the reign of the Coalition, an era of cooperation with our Populist brethren, a era that we Republicans unite under a common banner of freedom, for the best of Greece. I extend an invitation to the Coalition Assembly Conference, to the new Populist members of the Assembly, in order to allow for greater harmony throughout the Hellenic Republic of Greece.”

Official Press Release of the Populist Party of Greece

We, the members of the Board of Governors of the Populist Party of Greece, officially accept the Coalition's invitation to their to caucaus with them. We ask that the leading issue on the agenda be the current state of the so-called Combine Party, and call for an investigation into the funding of the party, which we believe to be by the Armandian Combine, not illegal in and of itself; however, we also believe the Combine Party and the Armandians to be funding the treasonous activities of the Contosians in Cyprus.

For the Republic,

The Board of Governors
