Official Communiqué

To the leader of Vontanas:

The nation of Eurasia has dedicated itself to the pursuit of freedom, liberty, and justice, all around this vast globe. Wherever the zephyr blows, Eurasia will be there, fighting for those principles. Every measure will be taken to give others their rights, and every measure will be taken to ensure that those rights are not taken away from our fellow human beings.

After extensive review by HM Government, the nation of Vontanas has been deemed unable to provide for the continued protection of human rights and freedoms. Due to a lack of Vontanan military power, due to the fact that a variety of nations currently are mobilising against Vontanas, and due to the fact that HM Government has deemed these nations unwilling to provide for human rights, I have decided to extend to Vontanas the status of protectorate. Vontanas would retain its liberties and its sovereignty - but military affairs would come under our purview. Eurasia would deploy troops into Vontanas, maintain military bases in Vontanas, and Vontanas would fly the Eurasian flag alongside theirs. If you choose to accept this status, fifty thousand soldiers will set sail for your nation forthwith. Your proximity to Eurasia would expedite this process.

The Imperial Democratic Republic, while having a military sufficient for a nation of it's size, has been threatened by larger nations that could obliterate Vantanas, accepts the position of Protectorate of the Britannic Commonwealth. The soldiers will be greeted as heroes, and the Eurasanic flag will be waved alongside our own. The Eurasian soldiers will have acess to our own military bases.

"Copy that, echo leader."

Twelve sleek, gleaming Curiatii fighters swooped over the beaches, circling over the fifty thousand troops that were landing on the beaches, who were scattering towards the numerous Vontanan military bases.

"Echo leader to Command: Eggs are in the skillet, eggs are in the skillet."
"Understood, Echo Leader. Make sure the eggs are cooked."
"Aye, aye."

To the Chancellor or other such minister of the Britannick Commonwealth of Eurasia,

His Majesty, King William Salisbury V, lauds this decision of yours to care for the Godless savages of Vantanas. One issue, however, greatly worries His Majesty.

It has been established that this your state of Eurasia lives under atheism. His Majesty is concerned, and rightfully so, that your atheistic state will not be able to provide the Christian influence that Vantanas needs to civilise itself.

To remedy this, His Majesty has sent, by boat, several missionaries, guards, and colonists, which will travel to the irreligious land of Vantanas and build missions. From these posts, they shall teach the unbelievers about Christ. His Majesty hopes that this courageous act will save the people of Vantanas from the Evil One’s torments in hell, as it is only through Christ that they can join the realm of Heaven.

The vessels that His Majesty has ordered to depart should arrive in less than a fortnight. They only number about 200, and will be able to operate autonomously should they need to. I would like, however, for assistance by Eurasian forces to be given in the case of hostile attacks by the Vantanans.

If Eurasian workers in Vantanas were planning to convert the unbelievers themselves, tell us and we will discontinue the sending of missionaries. His Majesty did not think that this scenario was likely, however, so he sent the missionaries off before I could get around to writing this.

It is hopeful that through the work of these brave men of Christ that your new protectorate can be favored by our Lord God.

Signed,
The Rt Hon. Jan Sebastien, Lord Chancellor

The missionaries found the Vantanas coast after a rough voyage from their home, the County of Toledo. After a few hours of sailing down the coast, their ship, a clipper (http://www.alphayachting.com/clipper-images/royal-clipper.gif) belonging to the Viceroy of Toledo, happened upon a town with a shipyard.

The ship anxiously pulled into the shipyard, not knowing what to expect from the locals. A group of guards were summoned to arms and were ready to defend the ship should it be attacked and need to escape.

They would try to find a place to dock, and then search for a Eurasian contingent that could tell them where their service was most needed.

A platoon of Eurasian soldiers marched along the muddy avenue, the morning dew sparkling on the buildings. Their guns were slung casually - after all, the probability of conflict erupting here was unlikely. Until the missionaries showed up. The Vontanans were trying to lure them in, then arrest them. Probably kill them too. Cocking their guns and holding them at firing positions they rushed between the two.

"Stand down, Vontanan police. Eurasia is treating these missionaries as guests of the Commonwealth."

“Excuse me, sirs, but we are the group of missionaries sent to Vantanas by the Lord King William the Fifth. I am not aware of any bans on our presence, but we have come a long way and would like to at least restock our supplies if you must send us off to another city where we can disembark.”

The police officer smiled, seeming to win the battle. He pulled out the official notice (see a few posts up), showing it to both the missionaries, and the Eurasians. The police officer then said, "It would be fine if you were to resupply, and you'll of course be given a discount. What do you need, food, water, cloths, just name it."

“I’m sorry, sir, there seems to be a misunderstanding. While our ship does have the naval ensign of a vessel of the Salisburgic Dominion, there are no Cotenshirick Normans aboard this ship. I am Juan Garzan, a Gothic missionary serving under Lord Francisco Pueracia, Count of Toledo, and my associate here-” he motioned towards a man in a white uniform “-is Captain Alfonso Mendes, who is serving under the honourable Lord Dom Henriques, Consul of the Galicians. Neither of us and certainly no one in our retinues are from Cotenshire.”

The man in the white military jacket and sea captain’s cap, the one named Captain Mendes, spoke up next. “We do not want to cause any trouble. If you do not want us here, we can just get some supplies and find another city.”

Official Response from the Office of the Caliph

Icovir, for one thing, approves of the Eurasians' decision. We will, however, not tolerate it if any try to do something to either Eurasia or it's new protectorate.

We are greatly disturbed to hear about your "missionaries". We do not believe that they are what you say they are. Even if they were, we do NOT want them to go into Vontanas and force the people towards Christianity.

We will send 1,000 Imams to Vontanas to preach the message of Islam, instead. We will also send 100 Mujahideen (Icovirian Special Forces) to Vontanas to ensure the safety of the country.

We will support British Londinium and Vontanas. We are asking Vontanas for us to be allowed to protect it, also.

Official Communication to the Vontanas Government

While our particular diplomatic leanings are towards the nation of Contenshire, we respect the desire to refuse admittance to parties of nations with him political animosity exists.

It is our understanding that this refusal of Cotenshire nationals into your nation is based more for political reasons then Religious ones.
This is acceptable in our culture, even defendable.

While atheism is not a well venerated concept in Bedou states it is still indeed a reality.

We respect the fact you do not wish to allow those peoples who send religious agents to prostlotise(spelled horribly wrong) this understand explains the refusal to allow 1,000 foreign national Imams into your nation.

We would request on the basis that you allow religous freedom, that Bedou be allowed to dispatch a staff to fund and run a Wadi-Rum school of Reformist Fundamental Islam in your nation.

This would be placed with the understanding that those seeking information might seek them out, and not thatthe Clerics andteachers seek out those to "preach" too.

The Wadi Rum schools focus on Mathmatics, Science, Literature along with Islamic instruction both to those seeking conversion and those wishing merely to broaden their understanding of the Islamic world veiw.

The school would require roughly 25 to 35 staff.

We hope you would accept this offer, the Wadi-Rum operates as Mosque and one of the major tenets of Wadi-Rum is the reversal of the modern extremist teaching found across the globe.

We hope that this is accepted even in the face of minor political tension.

OOC: It is exactly what I said it is. No hidden terrorists.

To the Honourable Lord Zulfiqar Abdullah, Caliph of Icovir,

His Majesty, the Most Potent, Most Serene, Most Christian, Most Righteous King, him being King William Salisbury V, Patriarch and Potentate of the House Salisbury, by the Grace of God King of Cotenshire, Lotharnshire, and Ajaelland, Defender of the Faith, Duke of Upper Lotharingia, Nieuw Vlaanderen, Fejeszekja, and Gothtenbury, Marquess of Frankenshire, Nikolitzanburgh, Hautavano, and Normagne, Earl of Wolvershaw, Margrave of Oranje, Zagovo, Jadwiga, Bonusiklos, Bacsalmas, Hatshamolk, and Ysbrechterdam, Count of Franconton, Songailangrad, Svitrigailangrad, and Toledo, Sheik of al-Hassat, and Emir of Jawfina is angered by your unfounded and spurious claims.

It is only from the Divine Providence, who is gracious enough to redeem even the most ignorant Saracen, that influences are channeled to the Most Potent, Most Christian King, who now must smother the deceit which is espoused from your mouth. Not only are the missionaries sent by the King true in their purpose to bring the enlightenment of Christ Jesus to the irreligious of Vantanas, they are as benevolent in intentions and actions as it is possible to be.

It is hoped by both the Most Glorious, Most Magnanimous, Most Prosperous King and by Our Lord God, that there will be no forced conversion, but instead that even the most savage of Vantanan atheists will accept Christ by their own free will. It is only natural for a human who has known no religion to accept Christ, as it is the most glorious revelation in their entire forsaken lives at their moment of illumination.

The Most Serene, Most Potent King supposes that Islam is better for any people than atheism, and for that reason our missionaries shall cooperate until the people of Vantanas have been brought back from godlessness, but know that even when this happens, the Most Courageous Men of Christ sent forth by the Dominion will not relent until every last wretch on the island has seen God and his Word.

Signed,

The Imperial Democratic Republic wishes to ask the United Kingdom if they would wish to create a common currency for the two nations. They have put forth two possibilities:

Print: Current currency of Vantanas. Made out of jean material to help
stop counterfitting and to make harder to destroy. Background designs are complicated, and always changing, to help stop counterfitting. Holograms (reflective material) are instituted to stop counterfitting. Also, for the blind, each bill (1, 5, 10, 25, etc.) has a different scent (Pine, Lemon, Oak, Strawberry, Fir, Tea, etc.) and a different feel (Smooth, Rough, Jagged, Soft, Hard, etc.). Also, these make counterfitting even harder. Total, nearly impossible to make money off of counterfitting.
Just as the American Dollar is green, the Vantanian Print is blue. Both sides have two portraits. On the first side, the left portrait has the President of Eurasia, and the right portrait has someone symbolic (you decide) of British Londinium. On the other side, the left portrait shows the Great Seal of Vantanas, while the right portrait shows the Great Seal of Eurasia.

Also, we would be willing to create an entirly new form of currency with the Eurasians, as well as review their current currency.

However, the Print's strength against the American dollar is quite weak compared to the Eurasian cicero. Therefore, it is only logical to choose the cicero as our joint currency.

OOC: I figured, to make things fair, that we'd keep our own seperate inflation rates. It could be considered stat-wanking or godmodding or something.

It would be assumed that, even though trade is often, the nations would still keep their own seperate inflation rates. If we were to take the Print for example, there would be the Vantanian Print and the Eurasian Print. Just as there is an American Dollar and an Australian Dollar, even though they look extremly different. However, I am interested. What is the Eurasian Cicero like (in-depth, please)? Also, would it be feasible if an entirly new form of currency was made?

Prime Minister Bellcrest:

The Eurasian Cicero is the currency of the twenty-first century. Designed by HM Treasury and a Parliamentary committee, this durable, lightweight, flexible polymer currency is perfect for any modernised, booming economy. Not only is the Cicero durable, it is one of the most secure currencies on the planet. Whilst it is impossible for us to list all of its security measures, they include: intaglio, offset and letterpress printing, latent images, micro-printing, intricate background patterns, optically variable shadow images, optically variable ink, diffraction grating, transparent windows, and a variety of security threads. Furthermore, this currency also has been adapted for use by the blind due to braille encoding. Please take this into consideration.

Interesting. Lining up both of our currencies together shows little superiorities in securty, and artistic value is secondary. Thus, not wanting to show favoritism, as they are quite similar in security, we suggest the creation of a new currency. If you approve, we can assemble a council to design the new currency, name it, and distribute the designs to each of our nations National Treasuries. Would you be willing to accept?

I have placed your proposal before Parliament, which at this time, shows strong negative sentiment towards abandoning the Cicero. The Eurasian cicero has deep roots in our nation's history. Indeed, a wish for our own currency led to the first traces of dissent against the British two hundred and fifty years ago, leading to our independence twenty-five years later. I will attempt to further your proposal, but there are no guarantees.

Yes, Parliament here is also not liking the idea. However, they've suggested an alternative proposal. The Mark. A currency that could be used beside the nation's own, local currency. The Mark could be used from in Vantanas and British Londinium, while the Cicero could be used in British Londinium, and the Print in Vantanas. I believe this would be acceptable, and I believe your Parliament will find it acceptable as well. If it passes, which I'm sure it will, then we can assemble the council imediantly.

By any chance, in a way to unify the nation of Havvy with the world, may the nation of Havvy join in with your talks of combining currencies?

Ours is inflating way too fast, and well, we need it to shrink. Maybe by saying it's worth nothing, we will be able to get the attention of the Havian folks about spending and not saving.

We are willing to completely drop our currency if you two come to agreement on a common strong one.

We object to using the British Pound Sterling, as it is what caused the Grand Depression, of which we are still recovering from. We are glad that the idea of dual currency is accepted, but we stand by creating it totally from scratch. The name can change, be it Mark, International, or New Cicero, it doesn't matter. We think that a council of representatives from each interested nation should go, design the new international currency, and distribute the designs to each nations Treasury.

"Yes, you can get such a map in the police headquarters." replied Officer Connie.

All the supplies that the missionaries needed were priced extra high. Also, the workers promised to work, but for higher then usual prices. In other related news, two Christian groups arrived in Stormport to meet the missionaries.Father Garza was sitting at his desk, which stretched quite a bit to his left and right. To either side of him hung banners decorated with the liveries of the House Pueracia. Busy scribbling away some prayers to give during a sermon, the Father looked up when he heard some footsteps coming from outside the tent. The flap of the tent opened up, and three men walked in. One of them was Captain Mendes, and the other two were soldiers of his. Captain Mendes and the two soldiers bowed, showing the candlelight dancing across their reflective helms.

“Good evening, captain,” began Father Garza. “This project has certainly had a rocky start.” The Father sighed. “We are spending too much money. The supplies cost too much, and labor costs are so high that I am contemplating just using our own men. Of course, that would delay the completion of the mission by more than a month. I knew that goods would cost more here than they did back home, but not this much.”

Captain Mendes had walked over to Garza’s table and leaned over on it. The two soldiers stood like statues behind him.

“Father,” said the Captain, in a worrying tone, “I too am very concerned about matters of the treasury, but it seems that we have more pressing matters on our hands.”

“Like what, Captain?” asked Garza, a little worried now, too.

“Well, as you know, our objective here is to show others the path to Christ. I have been wondering if there may be any other impediments—”

“Tell me, man!” burst out from Garza. The stress of his job was clearly getting to him.

“Well, you see, I have been talking with my guards. And there is this rumor going around. I don’t know if I believe it myself, I mean, I wont readily dismiss it, but, well, the problem is, I hear that in this land, I’m not sure where, although the guards told me this…hrrm I already said that, but what they said is that in this land there are practitioners…of Satanism.”

Terror spread through the eyes of Garza. He did the sign of the cross. One of the guards, who was behind Captain Mendes, began hyperventilating. The other, who apparently did not speak English, kept pleading with him in Gotho-Spanish to tell him what they had said.

The English speaking one, after regaining control of himself, grasped the shoulders of the other. “El Diablo!” he exclaimed. He ran over to the flap of the tent. The other followed. The first poked his head outside to make sure that no one heard. The other pushed up behind him and looked out. All of the buildings from the portion of the town that could be seen from the tent had looked so innocent until now.

Father Garza, breaking out into a sweat, stammered. “Satanism?” he repeated. “Does that mean what I think it means, dear Captain?”

The Captain nodded. Father Garza did another sign of the cross, and so did everyone else in the room for good measure.

“I am an old pastor, captain. An old but experienced one. I have traveled to the most hellish and corrupted ditches in the Dominion to preach. Throughout it all I have maintained faith and energy. And I have seen it all. I have dealt with heresy, sir, but this is not your normal heresy. This is no misguided man reciting a tainted scripture. This is outright Devil worship. We are needed here more than anywhere else in this God forsaken armpit of hell.”

“Sir, I agree, but my troops are in a pathetic state. They are scared witless. I can not barely coax them into leaving their barracks.”

Father Garza stood and began pacing around his desk. When he spoke, his voice quivered. “Captain, we must now have faith. That is all we must do for the time. We must let the people have faith. We must be a fortress against the Evil One…” He continued on with some unintelligible mumblings. After a minute of his frantic pacing, he grabbed a vat of holy water and began sprinkling it around the entrance of the tent.

Suddenly, an arm was thrust through the flap of the tent. There were several stifled gasps. Garza stumbled backward, dropping the vat, but recovering it in time to not lose much of its contents. The flap was pulled out, however, to reveal a messenger dressed in Toledian liveries.

“Father, I hope I did not catch you at a bad time, but there are these two native groups that have come to see you. They say they are Christians.”

“Fine,” said Garza quickly. “Send them up here. Tell them I will meet with them. Just give me some time to clean up.”

“Right away,” said the messenger, turning and exiting.

Two men entered the tent, glaring at each other hatedly.

"I am Devan, from the Church of Latter Day Saints in this country." said Devan.

"And I am John, from the Most Holy, Most Divine, Most True, Church of Roman Catholicism." said the John.

"We have come to see what church you are from, and if you answer correctly, you will get a generous donation from one of us." said Devan.

"Ignore this heretic, you're either Roman Catholic, or I will see to it you are expelled from this country indefinetly." said John.

Father Garza, his forhead dripping wet from holy water, stared at the two men incredulously. Both of their intents seemed ridiculous in comparison to the mutual problem the three of them faced.

When he spoke, it was evident that his hysteria had not completely passed. "Sirs, holy sirs, surely, I do hope, you serve our Lord God. If you do, you must tell me now, where the Devil and his minions lie. If you have seen them, tell me now!" His voice crescendoed to an out of control roar by the last words.

Father Garza had a look of horror in his eyes. He suddenly got up from his desk, and said to the two men, “Do not worry, sirs, I must talk with my associates, here, about something. I shall be back in a moment. You two can stay here.” He looked towards Captain Mendes and his guards and they stepped outside. Garza picked up his vat of holy water, a candle, and his lamp and followed them.

Once outside, the four congregated some distance away from the tent. Garza began sprinkling holy water in a circle around them.

“Father, I understand your fear of the Devil, and know that I share it, but why are you using that water now.”

“So the Devil can not hear us when we speak of his demise!”

“I don’t know about you, Father, but I do not get good vibes from those men.”

“You fool!” burst out Father Garza. “Of course there are no ‘good vibes’ to come from them. They are clearly instruments of the devil. Did you not hear how they answered me with the same words at the same time? That is an obvious demonic sign. And they said that a Rabbi was the Devil.”

“But, Father, I thought that the Devil could not infest Rabbis.”

“He can not. They clearly speak no truth. They also bear those Hindu insignias, swastikas. Demons can infest Hindus easier than he can Christian folk. The Evil One wants to make me join his ranks by ordering those two to impersonate holy men.”

Captain Mendes and the two guards were now equally as terrified. “What shall we do, Father.”

Garza lowered his voice and stepped out of the circle. “We must speak softly now, lest the Evil One hear.” He walked over near the tent. The others followed. Garza looked at the two soldiers and whispered, “Be vigilant.” He raised his hand, and the soldiers took out their guns.

Opening his lamp, Garza swung it so that the kerosene flew high in the air and rained down on the tent. He then put the candle to it, and the already dry and withered tent was quickly ablaze.

The courage of the four men quickly escaped them and they fled the scene, running back towards their boat.

Four heavily armed men ran into the tent. Two of them plucked up the "priests", and got out of there. The remaining two fired machine guns at the retreating Contenshirans, intentionally missing. They then evacuated.

SIC:

The four men carried the "priests" away, taking them into a dark, narrow alleyway. Two men stood there, a Satanist and Stormport's Mayor. The four armed men dropped their weapons, and each recieved twenty-five Nuyecomarks (50 USDs) from the Satanist. The two fake priests stood before the mayor, peeling off the fake tatoos and the robes.

The mayor said, "Excellent. I think we've chased them off. Still, there's one last part of the plan. The old man. Now, here is your pay my gentleman, fifty Nuyecomarks, which is one hundred USDs." The mayor handed out the money to each man. The imposters bowed, and then slipped out of the alleyway.

The Satanist turned to the Mayor, saying, "Is this not a brilliant plan? Driving out the foreigners, and boosting the economy! The building tax and religion tax, all boosted to extremly high amounts! Not to mention your 'guest tax'. The builders get high wages, the suppliers get easy money, and when they leave, we get a free building for the Red Shield!"

The four men arrived at the boat panting and clutching their sides. A man dressed in a robe of the clergy stepped out from his cabin below deck. He called out, “Father, what happened? Is this commotion the work of the Devil?”

“So you have heard, my curate,” sighed Father Garza. “Yes, two demon infested Hindus invaded my tent. They had fooled my men into thinking that they were Christians, and, such was their demonic power, that I myself was fooled for a time.” He leaned over the side of the boat and vomited.

“Father!” screamed the curate. “You must rest, although I am afraid we can not have you inside the boat. These demonic powers have clearly made you sick, and we can not let that influence spread throughout the rest of our men here.”

“No, I think it is the sprint I just had,” replied the Father. “I am too old for feats like that.”

“Father, we absolutely can not take chances with matters like this. You are wise indeed, but it would be much better if you found some place else to rest. Captain Mendes, would you mind taking the Father to rest in your barracks?”

“Not at all,” answered Mendes. “The sight of a holy man would greatly help the mental state of my troops, who are terrified due to the demonic magic at work here.”

“Very well, I shall go with you,” said Garza. He turned to the curate. “Could you arrange with me a meeting with the lord of this town? We must discuss this infestation.”

“Yes, Father, it shall be done.”

“Meanwhile, I must write back to Toledo. This is more work than can be done by one priest.”
