2 Hours out of Hawaii
The USS Trent Lott cruised through the waters of the pacific. Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit waited onboard. Colonel Maxim Hughes stood on the bridge of the Trent Lott. The Colonel has seen many battles. He led his Unit in Operation Iraqi freedom. The ETA to Wake Island was 21 hours and counting. Colonel Hughes did not like long waits. They gave him too much time to think. A warrior does not think, he acts. He looked inpatiencently at his watch. He then let out a long sigh. He still had 21 hours 53 minutes.
The Trent Lott is accompanied by the USS- Valley Forge, USS-Mustin, USS Rentz and the USS-Walter S. Diehl. The primary mission of the Assault group was to take over the island with as few casualties as possible. The assault plan of the Group is for the Trent Lott to launch AV-AB harriers to provide air superiority. Once Air superiority has been achieved AH-1 Super Cobras will sweep over the island. Once the Super cobras have decided it is safe Marines will begin landing by hover craft and by helicopter. One Marine team wills aslo land at the Wake Island Airport. They will then begin to take over the airstrip so reinforcements can arrive.
On the Flight deck of the Trent Lott 6 AV-8B Harrier attack planes were being prepped for takeoff. AIM-9L/M Sidewinder missiles were being fitted to the planes hard ports. Aircrew on the flight deck fitted hoses to small ports on the planes to load fuel. The planes were then taxied to takeoff positions on the flight deck.
The capitol building in Tailville DR was sweltering today; even more than usual. At issue was America's impending seizure of Wake, a strategic island just barely north of Wagdog's own Socialist State of the Marshall Islands.
Secretary of Defense Mario Iliescu was near to tearing his finely-combed hair out. He always got near to shouting when it came to dealing with his elven "comrade" Rilir, the Secretary of State, but today was particularly maddening. "Don't you see you metaphysical refugee! If we don't strike now against somebody we shall be caught between two halves of a vice; one half being the most powerful nation on Earth by far, whose military equipment we did 'appropriate' some time before, I might add, during our revolution!"
Rilir stayed calm, even though it was no secret his distaste of the vampire haranguing him was intense. Well, as calm as possible for an exasperated Elf anyway. "And you would only close that vice, nosferatu! My way would at least earn us a possible ally against the FPU, clearly a nation with designs on us once they've digested Singapore."
The proud Elven diplomatic tradition was already being put to work. Rilir proposed to transfer some six 'appropriated' B-52H Stratofortresses back to the US Air Force and not contest their claim to Wake or other unclaimed Pacific territories, in return for six surplus B-1B Lancers and American support against the FPU. Operating small numbers of two types of bomber was a severe strain on the fledgling Wagdoggie Red Army Air Force's logistical system, and rationalizing this would be of much help in any reckoning with the economically-overwhelming FPU.
"ENOUGH!" General Secretary Carolinus Horridus, a pseudonym for his real name that had been classified since an assassination attempt during riots in 2006 by Nazi sympathizers, was tired of his subordinates' bickering. "Policy is what we make here, not blood feuds." he stroked his full, scruffy goatee and mustache in thought. "For now, we should choose Rilir's option. Issue the communique to America. Like it or not, they are the big dog of this world and we are one of the little ones. Best we get on their side, after all." Carolinus smirked to his Vampire SECDEF with the next bit. "But do make preparations to deploy Andersen AFB's F-16s and A-10s to New Guinea for possible action against FPU forces should war break out over Singapore. Move us up to DEFCON 4 overall, with the First Army on New Guinea at DEFCON 3."
Both elf and vampire calmed themselves before assenting "Yes, comrade General Secretary." Clearly they were disappointed at not getting to finish their little... debate... but they obeyed anyway.
Soon matters would begin to move. Hopefully not too late for the little dogs to vote...

It was mid day on Wake Island. The sun was shining. Not a cloud in the sky. The waters were crystal clear. Children played in the fields of the islands. A little boy walked up tot he plate on the baseball field. He stared the pitcher in the eye. His focus was keen. A breeze began to blow. A breeze was not uncommon on Wake Island but it was a clear day. Without warning 6 AV-8B harriers flew over almost toppling the children with the wind the created.
"Trident One to Command. We have arrived over the island. We are scoping out the area now."
"Very good trident one, proceed."
The AV-8B harriers began to fly over all key parts of the island. They flew directly over the airfield. Only a few single engine prop planes were parked on the runways. The lead plane then radioed back to the Command.
"Command this is Trident One. The area is all clear. Begin landing, over."

The wiz of chopper blades sounded as 4 AH-1W Super Cobra attack helicopters flew over the small town on Wake Island. There mission was to look for any threat to ground troops. So far no threat has been spotted. It’s expected because the US was responsible for its defense. The Helicopters made one more pass around the horn of the island. The bright sunny cloudless day was an answer to there prayers. They could see over the entire Island. No threat has been spotted.
"This is Cobra 1 all is go repeat all is go."
Aboard the Trent Lott Marines began to load themselves onto CH-46 Sea Knight helicopters, CH-53 Sea Stallion helicopters and UH-1N Huey helicopters. 2 of the huey helicopters would be transporting a group of marines to secure the airstrip. Helicopter blades buzzed as Marines took off and headed towards the island. Below deck LCU Landing Craft, Utility began to load on APCs and M1A1 Abrams tanks. The engines on the hover craft began to roar as they lifted up. They then pulled out of the hold and rushed towards the main land.

Wake Island Airport
2 Marine Huey helicopters landed next to the airstrip. 4 Squads of marines jumped out with guns drawn. They sweeped the area around the airstrip. Alpha and Bravo squads rushed towards the main terminal. A small door to the terminal was at the bottom of the building. The squad members lined up behind the door as one of them kicked the door in. They yelled out as they entered.
"United States Marines. Put your weapons down."
5 Airport works stood in the corner of the room. They had there hands on there heads as a sign that they had no weapons. The marines quickly walked up the stares. The airport was mostly abandoned. The marine’s goal was to make it to the control tower. Bravo squad leader signaled the all clear as they exited the stairway. "Move, Move, Move!" The marines rushed out and screed the area. They sweeped the room with there M16s drawn.
"Bravo, remain here and guard the area. Alpha follows me."
Alpha squad moved up another flight of stares that lead to the control tower. They moved with great efficiently. They are the most trained warriors in the world. They knew what they were doing. Every marine there has seen action in another theater. One of the squad members kicked the door in to the control tower. Only one flight control operator remained. He was huddled under a desk.
"Please don't hurt me...." He said in a pitiful tone
"We're not here to hurt you sir. I am Sergeant Lassen, USMC."
The marines then radioed back to command.
"Cornel, we have taken control of the airfield. You my signal in for reinforcements."
"Very good Sergeant, Remain at your position. Reinforcements are on the way.

2 Hours have passed since the beginning of the Invasion of Wake Island. All of the marines have landed on the Island. They are now going from house to house to see in any medical aid is needed. As well as passing out food and supplies. The Marines are also looking for any insurgents as well as policing the island. Elections have been planned in two days. A police force is being set up by some of the Marine MPs.
The Wake Island airstrip was a bustle of activity. 3 C-130 Hercules from the Red Devils airlift squadron have brought in the 2nd Combat Controller Battalion. The C-130s taxied to an empty part of the tarmac. A Marines Captain stepped forward to the door of the plane. 25 Combat Controllers walked off. The last one off was Air force Colonel Zachary Bethany of the Red Berets. The Traded salutes.
"Welcome to Wake Island Air station. I have been command to show you to your post."
"Thank you very much captain."
The two walked off. The day was still sunny and cloudless. In the control tower Red Beret aircraft control men set up there command center. The Wake Island airstrip was relatively low tech as far as air fields go. A little bit of updating would be called for.

It has been 3 days since the landing of marines on Wake Island. A Marine Core Air station has been assigned to be based on Wake Island. The Marine Aircraft Group 42 is to be stationed at the air station. Civilian contractors have been hired to run cretin parts of the air station.
The Trent Lott battle group began to pack up all its equipment. Marines returned to the ship for the trip home. Colonel Hughes was happy with the mission he has accomplished.
