Do you ever catch yourself imagining everyday life in your nation?

I do occasionally. I had a really cool dream that I was a citizen in Laquasa.

Sometimes.

I cant really say what its like working for Raven corps... despite their sour atitude towards human life it treats its employees well.

But as a Kornosian... well.

Kornosia is a land of history and culture. People live by their own terms and live to serve the nation. Its really a great place to live.

The Community is a fine place to live. Little more intellectual than the average place (see the education budget), lots of public transportation, and the food is all my favorite, and the taste in alcohol is similar to my own. The only part I wouldn't like is the compulsory military service, as people do die quite regularly in Siapian boot camps.
Greater Valia

I was actually thinking of posting a somewhat RP titled "A day in the life of a Valian citizen" that would show what life was like living in the People's Corporate Republic from the view of an average citizen.

Same here. I sometimes wish my nation existed in RL so I can fix things up a little.
Ezaltia
26-01-2007, 03:34
As someone else said, I do it on purpose.

Life in Ezaltia would be pretty nice, I imagine. Everybody is very well educated (it's around 24% of my national budget) and I imagine the food to be very similar to French cuisine. People use a mix of American and British vocabulary (like 'chum' or 'loo') in a "upper-class" British accent. Latin and Yiddish are also very common to hear (the population is 40% Roman Catholic, 40% Jewish, and 10% other) but most citizens speak two or three languages.

Schools are VERY well-funded. Guns are banned (except for police officers) to reduce crime. The goverment works like the UK's, with a royal family that hold no real power. The people aren't too patriotic, but the red, white, and black flag (in use since 1945) is a common sight.

The thing I've always wanted to show off is my nation's cuisine and liquor and other products. The people living there are, apart from ethnic Siapians, are celtic and slavic in origin, predominantly. This, naturally, has led to a very high alcohol tolerance. Most everything is legal (heroine, high potency cocaine and crack, methamphetamines and MDMAs are the only illicit drugs, and most of the enforcement is on the import and export of drugs). I'm thinking a several day affair where I get to show off excellent food an vile poisons. Beware: some Siapian beverages have hallucinogenic properties.

Anyone interested in a Siapian cuisine tour?

Before this occupation it was primarily Spanglish- a mix of Spanish and american culture. Just like me! Imagine a taco burger.

New Gothland

I made a rp inside of New Gothland. I have avioded posting it because I wasn't sure if it would take off. You are to play as a member of a gov security office. (in a nut shell)

But Yeah I find myself wondering what it would be like quite a bit. We have a demmocratic goverment with a socialist minded economy. Its a really good place to live if you can ignore the freezeing cold and centurys worth of left overes from messing with magic.

Skgorria
26-01-2007, 03:55
Hell yes I do - I'd be okay in Skgorria as I'm white, tall, blonde-haired and blue eyed. The State would tell me everything I'd need to know, I'd get a neat uniform to wear every day and membership in the Skgorrian Youth Legion (which is better equipped than most RL militaries), there would be awesome rallies and kick-arse parades all the time and I'd get to ride dinosaurs.

Unfortunately, I'd be badly educated compared to the rest of the world, hideously repressed and highly racist...

How is Siap a superpower if the law is tolerant? Its usually the nations with strict sensible laws that are powerful because their troops are disciplined, and their combat ability isn't held back by the effects of drugs.

All the time, as my nation is run by a me, if i were an unrestricted megalomaniacal dictator.

But life as an ordinary citizen wouldn't be bad, just as long as you follow the law.

I do occasionally. I had a really cool dream that I was a citizen in Laquasa.

This particular nation began as a setting for a group of fantasy short stories I've written. The imagining of everyday life came before the NS game.

Your country has been in a multitude of wars and is currently under attack. I can't imagine everyday life is pleasant.

First off, I make no claims of being a superpower. I am just a benevolent manager over a Community of individuals who desire freedom peace, and their own space.

Secondly, the Siapian Military is a world of its own. It has its own laws and its own special governing board that reports only to higher echelons of the government, and its own substance laws. And, in all probability, if a soldier's abilities were hampered in any way, they would die in training.

Umm..., well, I'll start doing that after I set up some more laws. I haven't really thought of any 'customs' of my people. I do know the following though:

They speak Espanol, and live under a benevolent dictator. Companies are not controlled by government, and the country is currently 'closed' because of possible threats of attack.

The country has semi-open (to vote for a candidate, they have to visit the city) elections for candidates, and every once in awhile get to fill out public polls giving their view on politics. Well, okay, it's mandatory, but their is an abstain section for those who don't want to vote (think Jehovah's Witnesses).

Currently, life would be really hard since most convenient places are closed down. They should be open again soon.

The Red-Light sector started a war, so I'm guessing some people would not like to see the red-light district so strong. Maybe a resolution will have to be passed because of public opposition of the business. My country is kind of odd, but I don't really have any customs per say. I should get some.

Anyways, why doesn't somebody start an IC thread for all techs, and tell people to roleplay the daily life of a citizen. Of course, some strict OOC rules would be needed. Mainly though, no roleplaying based off the citizen.

At least you admit your problems. I'm amused by the difference between the description some people give to their countries and what their stats show. Or the difference between the way they RP it and common sense. Ie, the happy, patriotic, and cultured nation in which everyone wants to die in the service of their country.

Kesshite is a great place to live if you enjoy being a dirt-poor farmer.

Not that I think I'm being accused, but I remember reading a few days, maybe a week ago in the first paragraph of the descritpion that my nation was run by a small, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations.

In the next line, it said something about the huge, omnipresent, corrupt government.

The description is full of contradictions, but I play my nation in what I view to be a reasonable harmony of its history and its people.
Romanar
26-01-2007, 04:56
Romanar is officially an "Inoffensive Centrist Democracy", but I RP it as corrupt, with a lot of corporate control of the political process. Day to day life isn't vastly different from life in the USA. The biggest differences are bilingualism is more common, gas is very expensive, and the nation is still healing from a civil war that turned one nation into two.

As do I. IMHO, by picturing myself in various positions in my nation's population, it allows me to get a better 'feel' for it when I'm making an IC post.

You're right, the write up hardly does a country justice and stats can be problamatic.

I remember the time I said that the rich should get more taxes than the poor.. and suddenly the rich were being taxed 100%. My economy sank two points.

[OOC: I do. In fact, it usually doesn't take too much effort, as the nation I role-play as (Southeast Asia) is in fact based on my RL background. And I do have role-play plans as a result of this imagination involving everyday life with my country or otherwise in general on NationStates Earth....]
Clandonia Prime
26-01-2007, 16:33
In Clandonia its very pro-business with people buying their self into Parliament and cabinet all the time. Private police officers protect the rich communities from crime while the poor live in squalor. I have a huge rich and poor gap and there is a very militaristic way of life.

Now Laquasa's been invaded this weekend will be party time in Clandonia. I would like to live in my country if I was part of the 5% of the population who control most of the wealth. :p
Vault 10
26-01-2007, 22:21
I actually thought people are supposed to do that, and not just occasionally, but intentionally.

Yes, I imagine well how the life in the different cities of Vault 10 goes. In particular, it is based on my thoughts of what would happen in the Fallout world after long development, mixed up with some inherent corporate evil. It's not like Satan dwells in Vault 10, but he surely comes here to study his craft.

Living there? Well, if I had sush desires, I would write here from an asylum; though maybe I do, who knows.
Commonalitarianism
27-01-2007, 06:02
I imagine the Commonalitarianism as a very environmentally clean technologically advanced nation with lots of parks, botanic gardens and open spaces. I imagine that there is a decent amount of art and the architecture is integrated green architecture with trees and plants in the building. I imagine it is a very beautiful place to visit.

I imagine its citizens are very stalwart and very liberal in some ways with a focus on direct democracy. I also imagine that they are armed, have served their conscription and are ready to practice "The Privilege of the Sword", registered dueling. One of the darker aspects of the Commonalitarianism.

I also imagine that many are members of Registered Family Syndicates-- ingrained crime-- that actively are involved in freebooting, data havens, industrial espionage, and offshore banking.

I also imagine there is a strong focus on trade with the idea of being a "soft power" using a combination of espionage, low intensity conflict, trade manipulation, and ideological proselytizing.

I also believe that the citizens are "environmental extremists" ready to export a kind of "natural" or "green capitalism" in combination with a kind of "worker industrialism". Friendly nutcases.
