The elected Bureaucratia, divided into Councils, legislates, ratifies, and executes laws; the unelected Oligarchia must approve all laws before they can be passed, although an Oligarchia veto can be defeated by a 2/3 majority in a minimum of five Councils.
Elections: Held every five years for the Bureaucratia only (the Oligarchia is appointed from the Oligarchiae of the individual Divisions, by the Bureaucratia). Officials can be re-elected for up to three more terms after initially assuming power.
Human Rights: Rated at 'Superb' by United Nations. 89.4% of Catalasians live in housing at or above the 'Acceptable' level; 9.5% of the population is below the poverty line. 98.7% of Catalasians have access to affordable healthcare, 82.2% to affordable public transportation; Catalasia has an average GDP per capita of $51,742.79, making it one of the most prosperous nations in the world.
Civil Freedoms: Rated at 'Superb' by United Nations. The universal age of majority in Catalasia is 18; no citizen is denied the right to vote due to religion, income status, sexual orientation, gender, criminal record, or anything else except for age. Catalasians are allowed the freedom to do practically anything they want, as long as that does not infringe upon the rights of others to do likewise; the only slightly controversial exception is a ban on partial-birth abortions.
Economic Status: Due to its recent decision to open to foreign trade, Catalasia's already thriving economy has gained momentum, creating an age of prosperity little seen in many less enlightened (i.e. "socialist") nations. Catalasia's major resource is oil, which it possesses large quantities of (partly due to its liberal definition of its territorial waters) and which it trades primarily for reactor-grade and weapons-grade uranium and plutonium. Catalasia has an estimated gross domestic product of $202,712,435 million.
Military Forces: (Let's face it, most of you probably looked down here first.) approximately 40,000,000 men and women, divided as follows.
Army - contains approximately 16,000,000 men and women; a bit under 10,000,000 of these are logistical personnel whereas the remaining 6,000,000 -- actually 6,336,000 in all -- are combat personnel. One division in each army is an armoured division, containing 5,280 assorted tanks (normally 2,880 LBTs and 2,400 MBTs); overall the eight armies put together control 42,240 tanks.
Navy - contains approximately 15,000,000 men and women; about 10,000,000 of these are logistical personnel, whereas the other 5,000,000 are enlisted seamen and women. These people are divided between approximately eight thousand combat vessels and an equal number of logistical vessels, although with the recent naval purchases, the number of sailors may soon be increased by as much as one and a half million (with commensurate increases in the number of logistical personnel).
Air Force - contains approximately 8,720,000 men and women; about 8 million of these are logistical personnel, whereas the remaining 720,000 are enlisted. 439,680 of these are active duty, whereas the remaining 280,320 are reservists. In total, they fly 146,280 aircrafts, including a large strategic bomber fleet of 17,280 aircrafts capable of dropping a staggering 1.86 billion tonnes of weapons.
Space Forces - The remaining 280,000 personnel of the Divisions military are here, the latest branch of the military to evolve. At the moment limited to a fleet of weapons and ortillery satellites and a single space-based weapons station, there seem to be few plans to expand the Space Forces as yet. However, long-term predictions claim that eventually the Divisions may run a fleet of armed spacecraft to patrol above the skies.

There is no point on the Barrier that is not close enough to a military base to be considered unprotected.
