A Dalliance with the Damned (FT, Open)

It was his will that bound them, his will that strengthened them as they set out from his great audience chamber within Icecrown, the immense and unfathomable fortress and bastion of the Scourge. The Lich King had commanded that they go forth, ambassadors and emissiaries in his name, to bring the touch of his Chosen to the furthest corners of the Universe.

Thus had they went forth, strengthened by their devotion to him, by their love for the true power of the eternal Lich King. Some were mortal yet, Cultists enslaved to his Cult of the Damned, his most blessed and chosen worshippers. Others had succumbed to the blight plague, regarding the world through moody, cataracted eyes, touching the physical through cold and deadened flesh. Yet still they comprehended the enormity of their task, the vessels that bore them forth carrying their message to the stars.

In the name of the most benevolent and worshipped Lich King, he who frees us from the confines of Life and the ruination of death, who rids us of our weakness and our disease and our spite, and dedicates us to our higher purpose, we come.

We would have parley with the leaders of the powers of this Galaxy, outside of and including our Federation allies. Ties must be renewed, as surely as blood must cease to flow within veins. Come forth, siblings of the stars, the Scourge desires an audience with you and a parley with its fellows.

In the name of Ner'zhul! In the name of the Lich King!

Robert Zin Zar the 51st sighed, for the fifth time to day the slim man was telling him of a message. "Well... let them land; I'll talk with them myself."
"Sir? Do you think that wise?"
"If they're here to fight, my guards will kill them easily."
"But sir..."
"Do as you are told!" Robert’s voice echoed in the large room. The slim man rushed to get out.

The ship descended, sleek and black, its surface inscribed with ancient runes, chains binding the material, digging into the smooth material. It was doubtless that this ship was not one of common Scourge manufacture, but rather had been captured, debased, taken. So much was malleable in the hands of the Scourge, so much could be taken and remade. Materials, weapons, ships, people...

Those present were graced by the presence of one of Ner'zhul's blessed, one who had given up on the frailties of life, and been gifted by the Plague. His flesh was grey, barely moving, his hair lank and dead, grey streaking its formerly black mass. He leant heavily upon a staff, forcing himself to his full height. He could feel his bones pressing against his skin, could feel every facet of his being, energized by the continual psychic presence of Ner'zhul. The Lich King was a part of him, a facet of his very being. Without him, he would undoubtedly return to True Death.

"Hail in the name of Ner'zhul, he rendered our most high and eternal Lich King. I would have words with you, mortals."

The dockworkers stiffened, unsure of what to do. The lord was late. One stepped forward after a time, "I'm sorry, but our lord is late, if you would like I could..." the man’s words faded as he heard the sound of metal on stone, Robert was here. The dockworker quickly filled him in.
Robert's eyes widened as he realized the corpses of a man standing there was alive, "Sir? Are you the ambassador?"

"That I am, sir." He chuckled throatily, moving forward upon his staff. "I am Nathaniel, formerly of Northrend, now Ambassador in the name of the Eternal Lich King, whose blessings manifest themselves upon my form. No Lich am I, nor as gifted as others of our order, but devoted in my worship. I have served him since the Scourging of Northrend, through the fires of Azjol-Nerub and the Purge of Quel'thelas. I am his hand and his voice.

And I have come to offer his blessings to you, his hand in friendship and the gifts that he could grant to you." Another chuckle, before he forced himself forward, tapping the staff against the ground, testing the fabric of this world.

"My appearance...It shocks you?"

"Indeed it does," Robert sighed, "I've heard only stories of the undead." he waved his arm behind him, four men walked to him, their hands on their guns, "come to the throne room, so we may talk more comfortably. If you pull those, I will kill you," Robert began walking to the transport, his boot's two metal toes sending sparks, his armor clicking. the guards took the hands away, and follow their lord.

We could make a separate thread for that... but since your nation is bigger than mine, I would probably recieve aid from my allies...

Nathaniel began to follow this strange leader, moving slowly towards the throne room, just behind the man. "We are a strange race, we of the Scourge. Not so much a race as those bound by the will of the Master and the complexities of our condition. We have been enlightened, just as we wished, or as we were forced to realise. The Quel'dorei of Quelthelas, the Nerubians, Gargoyles and the Humans of Northrend, each have seen the light of the Master, the undying power that he offers us..."

He bowed his head lightly "Yet this is but the most recent of our history, our Master's history is one of blood and thunder, wrath and defiance. Of demons and battle, and the fate of all. He is the redeemer of this universe and the destroyer of weakness. It is only fitting that he seek out noble leaders worthy of his attentions, for he is like unto a God in his limitless power."

A ship had appeared in the Solari home system. It was unannounced, and unexpected. It had to be either batshit insane, extremely badass, both, or something else entirely. Command Central was going with the assumption of batshit insane, and promptly dispatched a pair of Cruisers to investigate. Chikuma and Tone streaked through space, closing the distance between themselves and the new vessel before sending a message demanding it identify itself and its purpose.

This is the SNS Chikuma, you are hereby ordered to indentify yourselves, and to heave to for boarding and customs insppection as an unauthorized entrant into the Solari System. Failure to comply will result in the disablement of your vessel and your incarceration on a penal asteroid.

We are of the Scourge, servants of the Lich King. We come that his message might saturate the stars, and new pacts and oaths be called into being. We mean you no harm, mortals, we merely bring word of the Masters plan. We would have words with you and all your kin.

The vessel held its place, watching silently, no life signs evident within the black vessel, its sigils pulsing lazily as chains wafted in invisible, intangible breeze

"Well, that's mildly unsettling coming from a dead ship that speaks of itself in the plural. Any thoughts?"

The speaker was moving on into middle age, and was one of only 3 humans in evidence, the majority of the emperors advisers being Mardukans.

A largeish Mardukan in elaborate harness spoke up next, "It's one ship, we have home fleet, and several divisions of Marines and MI in a 5 minute distance from Imperial City, not to mention the Home Fleet Marines can drop in no time. I say we let them come, and we listen to what they have to say. It may be mildly unsettling, but they can't pose us any threat."

"They're abominations! To allow them to set foot on our world would be to invite the unclean to our hearth." A second Mardukan, in the robes of a Priest of the Fire, had spoken up, his normally soft bass harsh with disgust.

The Emperor pondered for a moment, before addressing the assembled group. "We'll let them land a diplomat with a small honorguard. We don't actually know anything about them, apart from the fact that they ave a Lich-King, and that there isn't anyone alive on their vessel. But there isn't anyone alive on Chikuma or Tone is there?"

"No. There is not. And you know how we feel about that as well, Emperor."

"You will have to adapt some day C'thon Radas, until then, Honal, give them clearance to land a shuttle, and set several Gunships to act as an honorguard and escort."

"Yes milord. I'll have them get right on it."

-Several Hours later-

You are permitted to land a shuttle upon the surface. Your diplomat may take with him one squad of Marines, or equivalent. You may also bring whatever staff and assistants you require. We are instructed to keep pace with your vessel and insure that you do not deviate from your flight path. If you do, we would greatly regret destroying your vessel. Command Central has expressed interest in you, and we are intrigued. Your flight path is included in this transmission. Once again, please do not deviate.

We remember you, sons of Solari. we remember the bravery inherent in your line as you fought within and against the Federation. You were proud and honored allies, and you shall be so again. The ship lazily slid along the appointed course, drifting as though it cared not as to the manner or eventuality of its arrival. Slowly, it clawed its way in flames through the atmosphere, descending like a comet upon the fabric of existence, as Ner'zhul himself had once...Long ago.

The ship touched the ground with hallowed metal feet, digging like blighted claws into the earth. The ramp slid down, the doors open, and the Ambassador stepped forth. He was a rotting, twisting thing, his black robes barely clinging to the withered flesh. His eyes burned with a primal fire, a shameless desire to serve. At his waist was belted a sword, gleaming with black runes, and a pistol. He moved forward with a strength and determination that was almost disconcerting, a flickering of amusement from his soulless eyes.

"I am Death Knight Rikard Vanmars. I am the Ambassador, and the Fist of the Lich King."

Etimmu had, and still did, watch over the ever increasing Ermorian fleet within the star system of Sol, which still somehow managed to go unnoticed, or at least not very much cared for. Although, each time the fleet seemed to grow excessively large, most of the ships were hauled into other star systems controlled completely by the undying.

As it were, today, a Dusk Elder hovered to him from the darkness which engulfed the station. He no longer had the living Dusk Elder under his command - he had no trust for them after their attempted destruction of the Ashen Empire, even though the Lich Queen herself had marked them with symbols most unholy.

He turned his ethereal head towards the Dusk Elder, and spoke out.

"A magnificent sight, is it not?"

The Dusk Elder nodded as he looked out of the observation window.

"Indeed it is, Lord Etimmu. But that is not why I am here."

Etimmu turned his head back to his grand fleet.

"Of course it is not. You would not have come without a reason."

"Indeed."

The Dusk Elder gave a datapad to Etimmu, who seemed a bit surprised.

"This may interest you," whispered the Dusk Elder.

"Hmm."

Etimmu started to read through the message, with something resembling a grin widening on his distorted face.

"...And thus they continue to mock the Lord," he said as he finished reading the transmission from the so called "Scourge".

"Indeed they do," spoke the Dusk Elder, nodding shallowly.

"Has the Lich Queen been notified?"

"Indeed she has."

"Good. We can begin formulating our response to this mockery much sooner."

Etimmu turned his face back to the observational window.

"You may go now."

The Dusk Elder nodded, and hovered away into the darkness, back to his own dark musings.

"Does each of you have a will of your own? Or should I say 'act on your lord's will in your own way?'" Robert asked "and why has he decided to open relations with other nations, not just take them over; as the Be'Von's tried with us before they became extent by the hands of Robert the 32nd's armies?" he turned left, his black cape billowing behind him "I have so many questions for you, as I hope you have for me, before we begin..." he pushed a door reveling large room "we are now at the throne room, make yourself at home!" The room was dark, lit only by candles and a large hearth. A deep red carpet ran the length of the room, a black heart before the blue throne the only change. Tables and chairs sat close to the three doors.

Solari: "None. I endure alone. I also bear trust in our Solari allies." The knight teased his fingers over a silver ring, bowing his head lightly. "When all is said and done. we shall be closer, and better for it. I assure you.

It is not His way to thwart those who have ever been loyal, even though the Federation faces hard times, the Scourge does not abandon it, nor shall it abandon you, Brothers."

Bob: "The Lich King determined that depriving each and every subject of their will was unwise in the long run. Many in positions of power possess limited free will, able to coordinate his Lesser troops to their leisure, while he still dwells within their supple minds.

His power and glory are without end, his ability beyond anything. Wise and blessed are those who serve in his service. The Lich King, however, is no fool. He does not wish random, senseless war and conquest. That is merely the end result. Those who do not recognise his power must be educated.

That is why the Scourge exist. That is why the Plague exists."
