Military:
Armed Forces:
21,700,000 Total
Jade Star Army:
8,700,000
The Army is organized into 1,740 regiments of 5,000 men.
Regiments are organized by planet/nation, and deployment is uneven.
A (standard) regiment consists of:
5,000 men
-3,000 Line soldiers
-500 Artillerymen
-376 Officers
-1,000 various support personel
-124 Drummers, musicians, standard bearers, company mascots, etc.
This is NOT typical of support regiments, special regiments, engineers, etc. Even the 'standard' numbers will vary slightly based on casualties, the personal prefrences of the regimental commander, and so on and so forth.
Regimental Breakdown:
900 Line Regiments
Standard infantry of the Army, rely on volley fire and long-range tactics to defeat their enemies.
400 Ranger/Jaeger/Sniper/Rifle Regiments
Variously titled depending on planet, but they have the same basic function, that being skirmishing, sniping and recon. In battle they operate in a fashion similar to Line regiments, but are equipped with a longer and more accurate version of the standard armament.
Typically Jaeger regiments are broken up by company and assigned to a Line regiment in a support role during battle.
300 Engineer Regiments
Both on-battlefield and off, JSAF engineers construct fortifications for the Army and blow up the enemies own works. They will also support the logistical arm of the army, constructing roads, bridges, and so on.
On-battlefield they act as sappers and heavy support teams when required.
130 Grenadier Regiments
The elite forces of the JSAF, Grenadiers are heavily armed and armoured, and although typically no better in a ranged engagement than Linesmen (you can only get so accurate with a musket), they are known for their vicious charges, their tenacity and their unwillingness to retreat under any circumstances. They also make use of explosives on the battlefield in a manner similar, if less precise, to that of the engineers. Adapted from the famed 'Goblin Bombs', the devices in question are extremly loud, smokey, bright and quite deadly if used correctly.
10 Life Guards Regiments
The elite bodyguards of the JSAF, the Life Guard secure the lives of the most important officials and officers in the Allied States, typically a company is assigned to whatever personal guard a planetary/national leader maintains, asa well as to the highest ranking officers of the JSAF.
The Life Guard combines the best of all the various services of the army, and the troops in it excel in pretty much every form of combat, recieving extensive training off-world in armed and unarmed combat. They wield both the traditional musket of their less well-dressed brethren as well as more precise weapons for use in crowded situations. While their main role is a bodyguard unit, they are formidable on the battlefield as well. Typically five regiments will be on 'army duty' while the other five are bodyguarding, this system maintains the combat readyness of the entire unit as regiments are rotated between services.
The JSAF maintains no armoured vehicles.
Navy:
13,000,000
60 Battleships
142 Cruisers
244 Frigates
650 Destroyers
A rather large number of various corvettes, brigs, bights, snows and sloops.
