Siap Tribune International Edition

This morning, at approximately 4:30 am Esmund Standard Time, a joint operation was launched by Siapian Customs and The Siapian Intelligence Network Operations Detatchment Alpha, with Specialist Paul Kesson of the Siapian Intelligence Network commanding the operation, to execute a search warrant to investigate an abandoned pitchblende mine on Doghead island. The island is technically part of The Community, but has no residents and is located 200 km from the shores of The Community. It was a common hideout for smugglers until about ten years ago when it was used for weapons testing. The island was most recently used by the private mercenary company "St. Michael's Detective Agency", who in a statement released in response to this incident admitted that they had not used the island in some time. Charges of negligence are being levelled against said company.

The operation was described as an "Outright [blasphemous] failure." By the operations commander. "The mine itself is almost one hundred and fifty years old. The engineering was very sophisticated." Siapian forces were hindered by "An...overwhelming number of combatants in the mine...combined with severe structural damage initiated by the entry." So far the body count has been totalled to 40 "30 combatants and 10 scientists", the majority of whom were not killed immediately killed in combat, but succumbed to blood poisoning from the fumes in the mine. So far, only ten scientists and twelve combatants are in custody and are currently being treated at an undisclosed location for radiation poisoning. A total of 25 kg of weapons grade uranium was seized, and four tanks containing five hundred gallons of heavy water each were destroyed. "And the facility is bathed in radiation from the reactor components and buried under pitchblende, and radon is seeping into the main facility." Kesson had to say. Excavation into the facility will begin this week, however "Its a radioactive underwater lake, carbonated with radioactive gas, buried under radioactive rock. We won't have anything from there for quite a while.

No official statement was released, but sources inside The Council believe this belonged to the Arms Dealer known only as "Cassius". There were no Siapian Casualties, however fourteen individuals are being treated for radiation poisoning.

OOC: Tangently related to this thread. (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=515116)

The nation of Havvy has sent an amount of $60,000 to the nation of Siap for use of getting rid of uranium in the mine. It's not much, but we are a very small country, and we don't have that big of a population.

OOC: One tragedy after another. Anyways, we have 12,000,000 people in our country, and they pay low taxes. Anyways, good luck in this thread.

OOC: This is part of a long chain of events, but this thread is open to anyone, provided they don't want to nuke me or launch a massive invasion.

IC: The Community thanks you for your contribution. The size is not the matter, but your willingness to aid is what counts, and this will not be forgotten. The enriched uranium that was seized has been flown back to the Siapian mainland. The funds will be contributed towards offsetting the expense of disposing it. Currently, the uranium is at Esmund Air Force Base and will be transferred to several CANDU reactors throughout The Community and will be reduced to a less hazardous compound. Once again, we thank you for your contribution.

Official Statement from The Community

Of the twenty two witnesses, six have perished from radiation poisoning. A fight broke out between several of the combatants and what appears to be the lead scientist, who is now in critical condition and has been transferred to a seperate surgical intensive care unit. All prisoners have been seperated, and those capable of speaking will be asked to give depositions in a few hours.

All Siapian personell who raided the facility have been discharged from medical facilities with no lasting injuries. The weapons grade uranium has been succesfully split into smaller components, each to small to independantly form a nuclear warhead, and has been transferred to a CANDU reactor within The Community, where they are being integrated into the current fuel line. The uranium is presently being fed into the reactors, and will be completely harmless by the end of today. All nuclear facilities will be put under heavy guard by the military until noon tomorrow Esmund Standard Time.

IC:

South Lizasaurian intelligence suspects this act maybe related to the Grace baptist cult, there maybe loyalists still out there. More finds from INTEL suggest that a missing train that allegedly has been rigged with a nuclear explosive device maybe related to these turn of events. INTEL has sent men to meet with Paul Kesson and offers radiation combat suits for your men so they can fight any enemies in radioactive or heavily polluted areas. http://www.sclegacy.com/features/wc3/marine-pose.jpg

Official Response to Novistrana4

The blending process of the uranium has been completed, in that it has been mixed with several other fissile metallic oxides, rendering it, in its current state, no longer weapons-grade. In exactly two hours, all of these rods will be simultaneously fed into the reactors, thus physically destroying the U 235. The uranium 235 in question has been disposed of safely.

OOC: Hate to burst your bubble, but you were had. It was RDX on the train, a conventional explosive. And it was detonated.

IC: Your concerns have been duly noted, and will be forwarded to the approporiate parties so that they may respond in a timely manner.

To the People of Siap

The Republic of Ironwell extends our finest wishes to the brave members of the Siapian customs and intelligence community. We commend your actions in the fight against threats to global pace and hope that recovery is speedy for those seeking treatment for radiation poisoning.

Our nation is small in stature, but not in heart, and to this end we would like to offer any assistance to the people of Siap to aid them in the investigation of this incident, as well as the capture of the arms dealer known as Cassius.

To Strom Gunderson

The Community thanks you for your good wishes in this time of instability. Presently, there is nothing that can be done, however we are forwarding all the material we have on Cassius to your nation.

All of the Siapian personell have succesfully recovered, however the detainees are still being treated.

We strongly encourage you to keep an eye out for the activities of this criminal. He tends to traffick in heroin and MDMAs, so beware of increased use of these substances. Also, keep track of your military hardware, as his organization tends to collect that which is left alone for too long. If you ever at any point need help with disposing of WMDs or any other weapons, contact our government and we will dispose of them safely free of charge.

While we have no suspicion that Cassius is in our borders, we shall be increasingly vigilant for the time being. My nation has recently began support for a renewed International Criminal Policing Organization (INTERPOL) and I am travelling to Edland Heights in the UES to begin putting on the finishing touches. You may wish to send a representative to at the very least, bring the full weight of a coordinated, global effort against this dangerous criminal.
