The Wrath of Khal
Part I of V

Admiral Pellaeon

Rear Admiral Khal (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a172/Huntaer/Admiral1copy.jpg) was resting within his quarters, trying to use some of the meditation techniques he had learned from Darth Aelikes to keep his anger from getting the better of him. The other half of his fleet was savagely destroyed by the Masakis and their Woodian allies above the orbit of Konoha. His wife among the officers who perished in the battle. He's been patiently waiting to receive a special order from command. He soon got his wish. His heart skipped multiple beats as he raced over to his desk and activated the interactive holo-computer screen. His eyes scrolled down to see who it was from. It was Lord Vorman. His direct superior.

"Greetings my Lord. What can I do to serve the Empire?"

The holographic figure of Lord Vorman can be seen on the top of Khal's desk, and it's yellow eyes stared right back at the Admiral, ::Khal... Darth Trilkan has taken your recent grudge to interest,:: Khal raised an eyebrow, ::The loss for Phantom Fleet and the fleet which Grand Admiral Ezekiel commanded was a total embarrassment. The Dark Lord has read your career profile and has decided to allow you to go back and hit the Coredians.... Hard. These are the coordinates of your specified target in the Konoha System::

Khal read the coordinates and frowned. It wasn't exactly what he was hoping for, nor did he understand why the Emperor wanted him to assault a gas planet with a orbiting repair station, "you've got to be kidding. Why not attack Konoha itself again?"

Vorman narrowed his eyes, ::The Emperor does not kid, nor do I. Those are the locations of one of the commanding Star Destroyers which the enemy controls... A symbol of pride of the Coredians. A ship of history. The Chimera.::

Khal frowned for a few moments. While he would do exactly what Vorman is ordering him to do, he hardly saw what the point was. Then it hit him, "Pellaeon," he spat.

::Yes,:: Vorman nodded his hood, ::You are to sneak up from the far side of the planet, and destroy the Chimera. Good hunting, and dismissed.::

"Understood, Rear Admiral Khal out," he shut down the communication terminal and stood up, straightening his uniform. He then hurried down the corridors on the Requital, finally reaching the command bridge, his heart racing. The ship was slightly different from the Requital's (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a172/Huntaer/Capital%20Ships/HSD1b.jpg) previous sister, the Megaladon (which his wife commanded).

"All stations, Red Alert! Engage the Superior Cloak, ready weapon systems. Helms, lay in a course for the Konoha System and exit on the far side of the fourth planet. I want the turbolasers and torpedo launchers fire when we reach the system. And fire upon my command."

"Aye aye sir. Entering the Necrominus... NOW."

So it was time for Khal's anger to fuel his focus. One of the commanding admirals was still in the area. A ship which the officer held dearly, as it was a family heirloom. The Coredians and Woodians would be caught unprepared and unaware of the upcoming attack. And his quest for revenge would begin...

The Chimera, the most beloved ship in all of Coreworlds, was hurt. She just survived her latest battle, against the Huntaerians, and now she sits in her private berth, feeling the people and droids crawl all over her, repairing her wounds and tending to her systems. It will be some time before she would be ready to fight again, but even sitting in the drydock, she was beautiful.

And dangerous. Oh, yes. Many an Imperial have nightmares about the Chimera, named after the creature made up of parts of other creatures. They would feel the wrath of her turbolasers strike them down, the pulsing bursts of her missiles send them to oblivion. And all her crew, from the newest midshipman to the Old Man of Space himself, were proud to serve, proud to fight alongside the Beast.

She was over a hundred years old, the Beast, almost as old as the Admiral himself. But her age just made her more worthy, more experienced than any ship alive today. She has fought a thousand battles. Destroyed a million foes. Conquered the Darkness with all her might and suffered for it. She had blood run her hallways. She had suffered invaders who wished to rape and destroy her, who destroyed worlds and stars just to kill her, but she repulsed them all. She would fight. And she would continue to fight until her last dying breath and woe be to the foe who seeks to end her life.

For the Chimera will hunt her foes down even unto the end of the galaxy, and send them to their Makers.

The Requital jumped from the Necrominus, and slowed down to a hault, behind the planet as per orders (not to mention the fact it just makes sense to use the planet as desguise). The navigator looked up from his station and looked up at the view screen, "our target is behind that Admiral?"

"Correct Lieutenant. You will position ourselves on a course which will take us close to the planets atmosphere, continuing to disguise our signatures... Which I think aren't even emitted from the Superior Cloak. I want our communication jammers activated, to block the enemy from making any contacts to Konoha itself."

The comms officer looked at Khal, "wouldn't that cause them to think there's an enemy in the system?"

"No comms. We're still undetected. We would've noticed a change in their behavior if they noticed us. Jam their communications, and have ours rigged for silent runnings. No communications chatter to locate us."

"Aye admiral."

"Status of the Chimera?"

The Tactical Officer looked at recent sensor readings, and found that the ship was still in it's drydock. Completely unaware, but still deadly, "yes sir... The ship is still in it's drydock. No motion detected."

"Ready six transphasic torpedo shots just as we enter visual range of the ship. Fire upon my command."

OOC: CW, MSN if possible. I still need to talk about some wraping ups on the plot.

When an engineer tried to com his colleague several times, he got annoyed. "Useless comms. Now I have to walk all the way on the other side of the station."

When a soldier tried to call his commanding officer, he grew concerned after several tries and finding nothing but static.

When a fax report to Konoha cut off in the middle of printing, the High Command was notified. Something was up. Strange enough for the High Command to put the fleet on alert.

Little did they know that the war was about to heat up...

"Admiral... Sensor readings show an increase activity. It looks like they suspect something to happen."

Khal grinned wickedly, his heart swelled with hate, "lets not disapoint them now shal we? Navigation, ETA to target?"

"Erm... 20 minutes. We are in range now sir for Heavy Turbolaser Batteries and Torpedo launchers."

The Admiral shook his head, he had other plans. "No, not yet... I want to wait until we can see the whites of their eyes. Quite litterally. No... We won't fire upon them until we are right underneath their ships. Launch the Vampire fighters." As ordered, the hangar bay opened up while cloaked and out came the fighters.

These were originaly designed for long-ranged mission but for purposes to better suit the Empire, it's been modified to serve as the cloaked version of the Tie Dart. Quick and easy to make. Also... The first fighter to be equipped with the Phase Cloak. These things didn't even need to have the hangar bay reinforced doors (if they needed to be up) for them to leave the hangar bay. They just simply... Flew out with their Phase Cloak activated as soon as they lifted up from the doors, undetected. This would distract the Chimera just long enough before the larger show down would begin...

The fleet was alerted to any intrusion, but as of yet, there was nothing on the scanners. That is, until a rather overzealous young sensor operator noticed that something was there. He called his superior.

"Uh, sir? I just noticed a sensor ghost appear and disappear on my scanners. It was there for only an instant."

"Are you sure?" The senior operator asked.

"Yes. It's weird, though. All I'm getting are Chronoton particles, and even then, not a lot of it. It's almost as if..." The other sensor operator mused, then his eyes widened. "Oh, Force..."

The senior operator had the same thought. "Yeah. Almost the same as the Battle of Konoha."

With that, the senior operator sent the word up the line of a possible Huntaer incursion near the shipyards. The last known location was targeted and then a small blaze of laser and turbolaser fire erupted...

Which ended up hitting nothing. While it would've been a good shot should it have been the Requital due to their slower engines. No... These fighters were much smaller, and faster. Twice the speed of the infamous Tie Interceptor in fact, and provide small, but painful punches with their torpedo launchers.

----------------------------------------------------

"Admiral! They've fired upon the fighters! Prepairing for retalliation..."

"Belay that decision Tactical if you value your life! You'll give the Requital's position away! Besides, they hit nothing. Psycological war Tactical. Make them nervouse. They probably detected the Chronoton Particles which the fighters leave behind on occasion. ETA to target?"

"10 minutes sir."

"Relay this order to the fighters: KhalAlpha2, Release the dogs of war..." Khal smiled for a few moments, he knew what this tactical order meant. If it worked out correctly, It should render a lot of destruction towards the Chimera's artillery...

-----------------------------------------------------

The fighters formed up to avoid the turbolase fire which was shot right at them, and they kept on coming forward. The Vampire's the formed up again, targeting the Chimera's Turbolaser Cannons with their Transphasic Torpedos decloaked... And fired.
CoreWorlds
26-01-2007, 03:44
The torpedoes were suddenly blocked by a powerful shield emitted from the shipyard itself, at least partially. Transphasics does have the troublesome issue of being able to pass through shields, and for that reason, several turbolasers were destroyed or damaged. Even so, there weren't enough turbolasers destroyed to the enemy's liking, and then the sensors were able to detect and relay the Vampires' positions for the laser cannons and incoming fighters to zero in and destroy.

The ship nevertheless shuddered under the onslaught and Grand Admiral Pellaeon had to brace himself as he was heading towards the bridge. Once he reached the bridge..."What the hell is going on here?"

"Sir, we're experiencing an attack from Huntaerian forces." An aide replied.

"Huntaerians? Back for more?" The Admiral growled. He looked at the various screens of the attack. "I presume, then, that the target is the Chimera this time?"

"It would appear so."

Another series of rumblings occured. "Very well. You know the drill. Call in the sensor ships and search for capital ships. Keep on top of the enemy fighters!" The Old Man of Space ordered. "And see about getting the Chimera out of this booth and to a safe area! We're sitting ducks here!"

The Chimera's laser cannon fire struck multiple Vampire Fighters and their pilots were sent to the cold darkness of space. The Coredians managed to destroy at least twelve of them before they turned their Phase Cloaks back on, and the rest of the laser cannon's fired into the emptiness of space.

"Admiral... It looks as though they've taken the fighter bait. What's our next move sir?"

"Prepare to fire on my mark. I want six transphasic shot at the enemy sensor balls, fire upon my command. After you do, I want a 1000km drop from our current position."

"Aye sir, coordinates laid in."

"FIRE!"

BOOM! BOOM!

The ship shook with the sensor domes' destruction.

"Sir! We've lost long range sensors!" A sensor officer cried out. "All we have are tacticals!"

"Damn!" Pellaeon cursed. But then a sudden rumbling occurred. The Chimera's engines roared to life, pulling the ship away from its berth as the sensor ships and accompanying fighters began to search for enemy forces.

Suddenly...

"Sir, we've detected several more anomalies!" One of the sensor ships reported to the Chimera. "Bearing 115-150!"

Below and behind us. Pellaeon muttered in his mind. "Helm! Come about 115-150! Open fire as soon as we're halfway through!"

Though there were many turbolasers destroyed, there was still enough to ruin an enemy's day. Especially with the beamlasers in action and many of the missile tubes still intact. Even worse for the enemy, the Navy were now alerted to the intrusion and started firing in the general location of the Huntaerian fleet and more and more sensors were trained on the battlefield. Soon, it would be fully illuminated, so to speak...

"Sir... Enemy turbolaser fire heading straight for us!"

Khal growled to himself, "brace for impact. Shields?"

"Shields are up Admiral, as they were in the beginning. The enemy won't do too much to us, even with only 50% of the shield fully functional."

"Should provide them a small surprise," Khal glared at the turbolaser shots as they appeared closer on the view screen. The Requital was struck, shaking the bridge's crew a bit, "report"

"Sir, the turbolasers struck the shield. They've revealed ourposition. Launch all remaining fighters have them strike the fleet.... Ready the Axiel cannon."

As order, the Requital's hangar bay was emptied. All 200 Kirtir Marauders, 400 Tie Furies, and the remaining 200 Vampire Starfighters were launched, and began to intervene. While the Starfighters and the other Ties all had phase cloaks, the Kirtir Marauders were equipped with a normal cloaking device, easily detected. The fighters charged the Coredian Navy which approached the MegaladonTSSD.

"So, there they are." Pellaeon mused. "We've revealed the enemy! Ready a full salvo and fire at will!"

The Chimera, though weakened by the initial assaults, roared its displeasure at the enemy, firing a still impressive array of turbolasers, beamlasers, missiles and ion cannons into the enemy TSSD and fighter groups. Even so, the enemy fighter cloaks made it hard to track them, even with what appears to be the entire Coredian Navy (really just the 8th Fleet and assorted attached squadrons) barreling down upon the Huntaerian enemies. On the other hand, it is indeed a considerable force raining death and destruction upon the enemy. The Navy definitely hoped that there would be a repeat of the Battle of Konoha here...

Khal glared at the Coredian Fleet which was aproaching his ship, "ETA to targets for fighters?"

"They're already there sir. Shall I have them relay their orders?"

"As commanded. Phase-Kamikaze-Alpha-4."

The message was relayed to the fighters which were equipped with the Phase Cloak. This was a dangerous tactic indeed, the Fighters broke up into several groups of 20 (still cloaked) for this maneuver. These Pilots were men who were willing to sacrifice their lives in the name of the Emperor, and the Huntarian Empire. Their weapons were set off, storing power for when the time comes. The fighter's target was the inside of Coredian Capital Ships, and self destruct. The Kirtir Marauders would maneuver about, providing targets for the enemy Capital ships since they were the more "visible" targets (due to they have relatively older cloak designs).

Numerous ships fell to the wicked tactics. The Huntaerian Empire has employed yet another devastating tactic against the Coredians and it has cost many lives. But the anger of the fleet burned against the Huntaerians, and the surviving ships redoubled their assaults upon the ships they could fight. The usual weapons had no effect against the phase-cloaked enemies, the weapons that did strike, anyway. And that was troublesome to the few sensors that managed to get a glimpse of their interactions. The Phantom Fleet was certainly living up to it's name!

Phantom Squadron was living up to it's name... Phantom Fleet was still a long ways away from arriving to the battle. However, something was about to happen which Khal did not expect. An unknown ship dropped from the Necrominus and hailed the Requital.

"Admiral... We're being hailed by an unknown source. It looks like it's coming right behind the planet. We got visual communication."

"Put it on screen."

::Admiral... I've been ordered by the Emperor to participate in your little war here. You still have the Chimera as target. We're here as a distraction.::

"VORMAN!?! Where the hell are you communicating from?? What ship!?"

::That information is provided to only me, and approximately seven thousand other "missing" personal. I'll be approaching you momentarily, you'll figure it out. End transmission.::

"VORMAN!!"

"Unknown transmission ended sir."

The Tactical Officer looked up from his position, "uh sir... Large quantities of chronoton particles coming from the 4th planet.... Now they're on the inside. What the hell..."

"Readings like that can only come from a ship the size Star Destroyer... What the hell?" Khal was just as confused as the rest of the crew, but didn't show it as much. Readings showed fluctuations between chronoton particles and normal readings which would be produced by the Empire's Superior Cloaking Device. The Nosferatu has arrived.

"Sir, we've got a second string of chronoton particles! Coming from the location of the gas giant! Not to mention I'm reading a massive power buildup from the ship we're fighting!"

"What?! Evasive action! Take out that ship!" Admiral Pellaeon roared. Said massive buildup was similar to an axial laser and would have to be treated accordingly.

Suddenly, the 8th Fleet let loose huge numbers of glowing yellow Shattermissiles and fighter-scale singularity torpedoes (capital scale are useless because of the proximity of the shipyards and the moon colonies, not to mention the fleet), reaching out for the enemy ship in question, as well as the incoming Nosferatu. The problem remained with the Phantom Fleet fighters, as the suicide assaults consumed several more ships, but the Shattermissiles would hopefully have enough quantum punch to damage them even under phase cloak, but that hope was combined with many gunners crossing their fingers.

The Chimera lurched to the side to avoid the superlaser, even as it unleashed another devastating barrage of its main weapons upon the Requital along with it's personal squadron...

The shattermissiles which were shot at the Nosferatu's path went through it's hull just like every other non-dimensional weapons, or weapons targeted to the same phase-level as the ship was... Which the Coredian's lack. The Nosferatu would remain utterly unharmed unless it would switch to the Superior Cloak and make several transphasic torpedo shot's at the enemy fleet... However, the Kirtir Lord had another plan in mind.

::Switch over to our Superior Cloak. It's about damn time we tested out our Lightning Field. Activate on my command.::

"Aye my lord. Field is charged, and ready. 30 seconds 'till impact from enemy torpedo's. 20... Fifteen seconds... My lord? Shouldn't I be like... activating the system now? They're well within our range before they hit our shielding. Ten seconds..."

::No security, not now. Wait... *seven seconds*... Wait... *five... four...*::

"MY LORD! Their torpedos are right on top of us!!! Two... One..."

::Now,:: came the loud hissing reply. At that moment, a large one mile Ion Sphere erupted from the Nosferatu revealing it's position. While technically this is a bad thing, it had enough power to disable all ships/torpedos as small as an X-wing within the sphere. Unfortunately, that would also render the Empire's own fighters/torpedos useless at the same time since the Lightning Field can't tell friend from foe.

::Switch back to Phase Cloak, and rise 4000 meters moving forward. We want to be moving upwards at their fleet.::

"Sir, what's exactly your next move?"

Lord Vorman's eyes glowed even more brightly at this question, ::Lieutenant, you don't want to know,:: should Vorman have a full face, his smile would be one of the darkest you've ever seen from any Kirtir Lord...

---------------------------

The bright sphere was seen on the bridge of the Requital. "Admiral, the Coredian scum have targeted the chroniton particle wave... Though the other ship activated what would be our Lightning Field. It would appear that their attacks should be useless after that... Especially to their torpedo's..."

"Well now. We must end this war right where we stand... Decloak the ship, and fire all Ion Cannons at the Chimera. That should be just barely enough to render her immobile. We've got slightly better power than what normal Ion Cannon's got. Then I want to recloak immediately to avoid their auto-targeting weapons."

"Aye sir! Firing Ion Cannons."

As the Lightning field activated, the shattermissiles slammed into it, rendering them ineffective, since they need shields to work. The singularity torpedoes fared better as disabling them activates the singularities and they started eating energy. Even so, the singularities were small and would likely pass through the enemy ship with little more than superficial damage, unless they hit a vital spot.

"Sir! Our missiles are ineffective! The enemy put up some kind of shield to block the shattermissiles! The singularities fared better, but they didn't proximity detonate, reducing their effectiveness!" The TO reported.

"We're pounding the other enemy ship with everything we've got...everything except the Tachyon Torpedoes!"

The Admiral raised an eyebrow. Gifts from the Godulans in exchange for singularity technology, tachyons were capable of ruining any shielded ship's day, like Shattermissiles, but with a different mechanism.

"We have nothing left to lose! Order all ships to fire tachyon torpedoes! Then rig the ship for a ramming attempt!" The Admiral's mouth became dry as he understood what he was about to do.

"Sir?!" The XO asked.

"We're going to hit the one ship we can hurt. The one forward of us." Admiral Pellaeon ordered. "Prepare to abandon ship!"

"Admiral! They've fired their weapons at us!"

"Sir! I don't know what those missiles were made of... Our shields are now down to 20% with those missiles alone! Even with the capacitors, it'd take forever to recharge them back to 50%! They've been damaged! We've also maintained minimal damaged to Engineering!"

"Damn it! All right, that's one mistake I'm not going to make again. Ready the Lightning Field for their next volley and fire on command."

"Aye Admiral."

"Is there any way we can get those shields up to 50% again in the next few minutes?"

"Aye sir, but we'd need to decloak in order to do that. While the cloaking helps... At this point we're recharging at 1% power instead of the normal 3x that the capacitors offer."

The Admiral sighs, Nice move Pellaeon... Scumbag.

"Wait... Wait... How long?"

Khal thought about this for a few moments before making his decision to not pull another move similar to what Verneal made, "Activate Lightning Field!"

Nosferatu...

::Report.::

The Tactical Officer gulped, "sir... The Requital maintained a fair amount of damage while we maintained none. That was some close timing..."

::What's our ETA to the nearest Coredian Star Destroyer?::

"At their current rate... Several have broken up from the main fleet and are attempting to use themselves as shields from the Requital. ETA to those ships: 1 minute"

::Continue our position above their ships... Status of our drop pods?::

The Comms officer had a shocked/spooked look on his face, "Surely you're not..."

::I AM Comm. Ready the Nosferatu for planetary bombardment with the Drop Pods. Just one hundred of them will due the trick to destroy a ship.::

"Sir..."

::They're automated fool.::

"Oh... Ok then, prepairing for orbital launch on the nearest Star Destroyer... ETA, 30 seconds... 20... 10 seconds..."

::Launch. Let gravity do the rest.:: The Nosferatu decloaked fully to reveal it's sleek black structure to the enemy fleet. Then, right at the moment the ship decloaked, one hundred huntarian drop pods were launched from the bottom of the ship and sped towards the doomed Coredian Star Destroyer. With the speed they are going initially, and with the help of gravity, the drop pods would decimate entire peaceful landscapes with hundreds of 20-meter wide craters, 20 meter deep craters. It would be interesting indeed to see how these things would fair when launched towards a Star Destroyer.

Scumbag.

"Sir! Their next Volley is under way!"

"Wait... Wait... How long?"

"... 15 seconds!"

Khal thought about this for a few moments before making his decision to not pull another move similar to what Verneal made, "Activate Lightning Field!"
The Chimera frantically tried to get its engines back online, but it helped that communications from other ships still worked.

"Admiral, the enemy ship has put up their anti-torpedo field again!" The comms officer reported when another ship gave the report.

"In that case, disengage turbolasers and beamlasers from the main systems. Their own computers should take fire control!" Pellaeon ordered.

"Yes, sir!" The TO replied, and the gunners manning the weapons cut each turbolaser and beamlaser from the main ship, forcing the weapons to go independent.

The turbolaser and beamlaser cannons then targeted the Requital and opened fire, unleashing a volley of pulsed and composite-beam plasma energy in tandem. The escorts followed suit with their own volley of energy batteries...

---------------------------

Nosferatu...

::Report.::

"Sir..."

::They're automated fool.::

The Star Destroyer in question learned that it was being targeted by drop pods, of all things! The captain would have laughed with derision if the Huntaerians weren't known for pulling nasty tricks, and the turbolaser cannons were ordered to shift from the Requital to the drop pods, hopefully blowing them apart.

Meanwhile, when the Nosferatu decloaked, the sensors of the Fleet were already on it like white on rice, and called in the artillery. A superlaser beam lanced out from one of the two superlaser defense stations defending the shipyards. Then the other one opened fire...

Perhaps the Kirtir Lord made a mistake, hmm?

"Yes sir."

"Then I want a shot from the Axial Cannon aimed at the Chimera as the ship slows down even more. One final blow... Fire." Should the super laser actually hit the Chimera, it didn't matter to the Admiral too much. It'd hit either the planet, or the ship. If the Coredians got too smart, he'd pull a few microjumps on them to evade their lasers should they continue their present course...

Of course, Lord Vorman never makes a mistake. What the captain doesn't realize about Drop Pods in general is, that they move at an incredible speed. The speed on a Drop Pod is legendary to the fact that targeting them is nigh impossible. By the time the Computer's done targeting the Drop Pod, it's already dropped another 1-200 meters at top speeds. Before the unsuspecting captain realized it, the Drop Pods hit with a tremendous speed and force... Enough firepower as a volley of 1000 Transphasic Torpedo's and then some.

And about the targeting scanners. It's a good thing Coredian technology is, for now, slower than the Huntarians for reaction times. Especially when it comes to the Nosferatu. As quickly as it released the Drop Pods, it Phased back into it's previous condition.

"NO!" People all over the fleet yelled as the axial laser struck the Chimera. The shields fought hard and almost stopped the laser, but the energy was too much and forced them to collapse. The laser bore into the hull and speared out the other side. It just barely missed the reactor, but it was not enough to prevent a sudden groaning heard all over the ship and secondary explosions occured when magazines cooked off and power stations exploded. It's about to break up!

"All hands, abandon ship!" Even as the Admiral ordered it, time seemed to slow down for the Old Man as he realized the ship was about to die. Tears sprang to his eyes and he stood alone amidst the chaos, willing himself to go down with his beloved.

But it was not to be as the two ANBU guards ordered to protect him grabbed him by the arms. "Sir! You must get off the Chimera!"

"No...no!" The Admiral cried out in anguish. "I swore I would go down with her when the time came!"

"Sir...The Emperor, the people would not want you to throw away your life like this." The guard with the bird mask calmly stated. "Please. We need you alive. The ship dies, yes, but it can be rebuilt. It can rise from its ashes as a phoenix does. Please..."

The pleading of the child (to Pellaeon, even the Emperor is a youngster) managed to force its way through the Grand Admiral's grief, and shaking, he nodded and whispered. "V-very well. Take me to the escape shuttle."

Feeling every one of his hundred plus years, the Admiral made his way to the emergency exit, where he was strapped into the seat and just as the explosions reached the small bay, the shuttle shot out into space and immediately hooked up to a fighter squadron. Escape pods also spewed out, but the Chimera, oh how it groaned in pain as the explosions ripped her in half!

And in that moment, the Admiral vowed revenge for the death of the Chimera...revenge that burned in his old heart and would give him the strength to fight the enemy and hit him harder than he's ever been hit before...

The Star Destroyer in question destroyed several of the drop pods, but it was not enough and the pods slammed into the ship with terrifying force, breaking it apart as if it was in an asteroid field. But alas, the rest of the fleet fired futilely at the Nosferatu, trying everything in their arsenal to take it down even as it went Phase. The Requital recieved the same treatment, especially after the Chimera just blew apart...

*Insert KotoR Sith theme here*

The explosion was watched on the view screen of the Requital and the Nosferatu. The Admiral was aghast. He couldn't actually believe that he destroyed that ship... He stood there for minutes not blinking, breathing. So much so that he forgot about the oncoming enemy fire. "ADMIRAL!" The ship rocketed violently, as the enemy fire hit the ship in revenge. Various parts of the bridge erupted in smoke, sparks, and fire.

"REPORT!"

"Heavy structural damage to decks 10, 11, 12, 15, 18, 22 sections alpha through delta! Shields have collapsed! Casualty reports... Erm... I'll save that for later," Comms knew the Admiral wouldn't like that part.

The Admiral quickly nodded his head in agreement, "indeed you will! Prepare for return fire..."

::It is done Admiral,:: Vorman's voice hissed in Khal's head.

YOU! Get out of my head!

::The Emperor would be most... Pleased to hear about your progress. You will cease any and all further attacks on Konoha. They're in grief enough as it is... Return to your post as we prepare for your second stage of attack... Vice Admiral Khal.::

As you command my lord... "Belay that order tactical. We're to retreat to our previous position. Emergency Jump into the Necrominus helm."

Slightly confused, the helmsman obeyed, "Aye sir! Coordinates laid in."

"Engage!"

Many days later...

::So it has been finished Emperor. The Nosferatu has been successfully tested.::

The Emperor nodded his head, "I've read the reports my lord. You've done well," Darth Trilkan then turned to face a still bowing Rear Admiral, "rise" croaked the old man's voice.

"My lord... The raid on Konoha was a success. We have obliterated their flagship, the Chimera. It'll take some time before the Coredians will have emotionally recovered from the loss of their beloved flag ship. Though... I'm afraid I still managed to fail you sir..."

The Kirtir Dark Lord nodded his head in approval, "normally, for the final mistake you made it'd call for a demotion. However..." Khal looked up curiously at the old man, "I think you learned your lesson." Khall nodded his head, he knew that living the moment in the midst of battle will eventually be the end of him if he didn't control it. "So... You may rise Vice Admiral Khal."

While Vorman granted Khal with that title, it's more official when the Huntarian Emperor granted you the title. It's also considered to be a special privilege too. "What will you have your Vice Admiral do, my Emperor?"

::It's time we discussed your other three targets. What else do you know of those involved in the Konoha attack?::

Khal shook his head, "Not much. I only knew of Grand Admiral Pellaeon my Lord," then Khal's eyes narrowed and his fists clenched at the thought of other people responsible for his recent loss... "Why?"

The Emperor grinned, revealing yellow teeth (from many thousands of years of not brushing them), and an evil twinkle in his eye, "I think you'll be very... Interested Admiral in the full reports of your wife's death."

::Admiral Kyle Horvath, Naruto of Rogue Squadron, and of course Daniel Masaki.::

"The las one will be a little more difficult than the other two you're about to face Admiral."

Khal's eyes opened wide with interest, "of course my Lords. I'm very interested in hearing..." The Admiral's veins began to boil, "more news about these... Others."

The aftermath was horrifying. The First Fleet was almost completely decimated by the assault, having been weakened by the battles that came before, and the Second Fleet was little better. The 8th Fleet lost several ships as well. But the worst of it all...

Chimera had fallen.

HNN reported Chimera's attack and decimation by Huntaerian forces from dozens of angles, so everyone except those living under a rock knew what had happened. Every flag in Coreworlds were ordered lowered at half-staff.

Morale fell. The Huntaerians were using equipment that allowed them to fight as ghosts, disallowing the Coredians a chance to fight back and destroy the enemy, and that caused many a soldier to have nightmares. Lack of sleep caused fights to break out and equipment to break, further compounding the problem.

But that's not the final chapter of this story.

I sighed, looking down at the latest damage reports in my office on Konoha (Jurai was still being rebuilt). "This is bad. We'd have to do something fast before the enemy can do more damage."

A beeping sound came from Sciezka, my secretary. "Daniel-sama. The Admiral has reached the surface. It's time for the debriefing session."

"Right, right. I'll be there." I replied. As bad as I was feeling about the loss of Chimera (I've known the ship since I was a baby), I can't imagine how the Admiral must feel to outlive his own ship, a ship that has been with him for over a century even as he outlived his own family.

I rose from my chair and headed out and down the hall of the Hokage Mansion to the Situation Room, where Master Lowbacca and the members of the High Command will be waiting.

"<Greetings, Master Daniel, on this sad day.>" Lowbacca said as I entered and the military brass stood.

"At ease. Thank you, Master Lowbacca." I said to the older Wookiee. A few minutes later, Admiral Pellaeon walked in slowly, supported by a cane. I was surprised and dismayed by how much the Old Man of Space has aged, like he was two hundred years old instead of one hundred two. An aide walked in with him, preparing to help him should he grow worse. I wondered about sending him to retirement, even giving an executive order to that effect, but I knew that he would never allow such a thing. He loved to command too much, loved to teach the youngsters, loved to show what it means to be the Supreme Commander of the Interstellar Defense Fleet. I myself didn't have the heart to put away the Old Man.

"Admiral." I spoke softly. "Please tell us what had occurred up to the Chimera's death."

He seemed unfocused, then snapped to reality. "Very well. My sensor operator has detected a mass of Chronoton particles approaching Konoha's main shipyard, where we docked the Chimera for repairs. Knowing that the Huntaerians have a propensity to attack while cloaked, we opened fire. We have destroyed several of their fighters, but they employed a strange cloak that allowed them to somehow pass through our weapons fire."

A murmur of outrage ascended the meeting and I banged a gavel to restore order.

"The enemy and Chimera traded fire and we began calling in reinforcements when somehow, the enemy fighters slipped inside the bulkheads of several of our ships and detonated, severely damaging or destroying them. After that, a new contact was spied on the other side of the gas giant. We engaged this ship, but found our torpedoes and missiles useless when it created a giant Ion field around itself, knocking out missiles as they got too close. Fortunately, it appears that we could still use energy weapons to fire through the thing, as the Requital had also employed it to stop our assaults on it. However, the other ship had moved to orbitial position and attacked one of our Star Destroyers with Drop Pods..."

More outrage sounded from the room, until Master Lowbacca growled loudly for everyone to shut up.

"...and use the drop pods to destroy it. It escaped before our superlasers could hit it. At the same time, Chimera was interrupted with ion cannon attacks from the Requital and that allowed the ship to destroy it with its axial laser." Admiral Pellaeon wiped a tear angrily. "In conclusion, the Huntaerians have used weapons, tactics and equipment that is unique and capable of not only crippling our fleets, but allowed the Chimera to be destroyed as well. It is my recommendation that we immediately begin searching for countermeasures to their ability to pass through our ships' hulls and weapons like they were nothing, lest the other members of the Empire employ this tactic. And...the First and Second Fleets will need to be rebuilt. Coreworlds will also need a new flagship as well."

It was clear that the Admiral didn't relish the idea of having a whole new flagship to command. Then I had a thought and opened one of the folders that I had with me. "Admiral...I don't know about all the others -I'll kick R&D into putting their heads together- but I do have something for the new flagship. If you'll read, please."

I slid the folder over to the Admiral.

Operation Overhaul - Star Destroyer
Defenses: Multilayered energy-absorbing molecular shields with a stronger projectile and disruptor-resistant hull. Weapons: heavy turbolasers, PPCs, beamlasers, rail/coilguns and pulse lasers for point-defense. Engines will be Inertia-less models for increased mobility. Sensor Package: Sensor Ship Suite. The 'bridge' will be inside the ship while the tower will remain but become an observation deck. It will be known as the Star Destroyer mk V.

"It's firepower easily matches the Chimera, with a better defense, sensor capability, and even uses the Chief AI from the Coredia." I said. "We haven't even started on the naming of the ship, but I was thinking. Since I know you won't want the Chimera to die in vain, it should be resurrected instead in a blaze of glory."

The Admiral looked up at my eyes. For a moment, I could see his spirits almost restored. His hands were shaking as he spoke his next words. "As the Chimera was named after a legendary creature, so this one should be...Phoenix."

It was a go. First order of business done.

Fleet Admiral Kyle Horvath
Part II of V

The newly promoted Vice Admiral Khal fitted on his new greyish black suit. He looked into the mirror several times and then came to the conclusion, my suit's crooked. He suddenly got the chills, and began to sweat a bit. "Lord Vorman, how nice of you to join me."

The Lord of Death hovered through the Admiral's door, even though it was locked from the inside. Locks don't stop this Kirtir Lord, ::indeed Admiral. I was coming along to see you off for your next mission. And to give you a fair heads up this time...::

Khal narrowed his eyes in remembering Vorman's arrival, "Yes my lord. That was quite surprising. One would almost call it disturbing."

The Kirtir Lord waved his hand, dismissing the last part, ::your men need to be trained to expect the unexpected Admiral,:: Vorman's voice hissed, ::besides, I was going to do this with or without your acknowledgment.::

The Vice Admiral sighed, "just spit it out phantom."

::We've been conducting a new kind of Towerless Star Destroyer, one which will replace the Armageddon Cruisers. You've seen her designs yes?::

Khal nodded as he was in charge of most of the newer, more secret projects in the Empire. "Indeed I have. Designed half of it myself."

Vorman nodded, ::The Emperor wishes to test out the new cruiser on your next assault on the Issus System.::

Khal nodded, "What's the main target of choice here?"

::A mining colony above the planet Doth. You will be assaulting it with the Requital. I'll be commanding the Nosferatu as before, and Fleet Admiral Lew will be commanding the Avenger in a series of tests while we attack the enemy planet. We'll provide you with plenty of fire cover as you preform Imperius Exterminatus upon the station and the planet below.::

Khal grinned, he loved that particular tactic. It was one of his favorite oldest tricks in the book adapted from the Chronosian Imperium. "Ahhh... Yes, Admiral Horvath's home world..."

The Phantom nodded it's head, ::are you ready for your assault admiral?::

Khal nodded, "indeed my lord. The Requital is fully repaired, ready for it's next stage of attacks. May I ask when you'll be engaging along side with me?"

The Lord of Death's eyes glowed brighter, ::in due time dear Admiral. Shortly after you begin your attacks.::

Khal nodded his head, "then I will see you on the battle field my lord."

As mining colonies go, Doth was a fairly small one under the nominal control of Issus, with about a medium city's (~500,000) worth of people working to extract ore from the planet and sell it to Coredian and allied companies to build ships. Though it was small, it was also important in its own way, and that sense of importance is what keeps the people on that planet and onboard the refinery station in orbit content, if not happy-go-lucky. Still, mining was a tough job and it requires tough people. And of course, one of the tough people happens to be Admiral Horvath, commander of the 9th Fleet.

Right now, things are quiet as they could be with machinery and droids rumbling through the rock, but little did Doth's inhabitants know that the mining colony was about to get louder...

The Requital jumped from the Necrominus, with it's Superior Cloak engaged, along side it came another unusual vessel. However, this ship was visible and moved right on ahead in front of the Requital. With this vessel in front of them, any small emissions coming from the mini-super command ship would appear to be coming from this new prototype. The Avenger. It appeared to be battered, and broken. Scorch marks all over the ship could be seen... Hiding one crucial piece of information about this particular ship. A one of a kind ship. Another prototype. Any and all markings of it belonging to the Huntarian Empire were... None existent. Even the ship's signature didn't match that of the Empire's.

So here we begin, Khal thought to himself. He looked around the bridge, for a few moments, and pressed a button on his command chair, "Engineering, has the Axial Laser been replaced with the new Ion weapon?

"Aye sir. It's ready for it's first shot on the colony and/or planet. We're waiting for your orders."

"Good. Attention crew, go to silent runnings. I don't want any more communication's to come out from this vessel while Fleet Admiral Lew continues his way towards Doth. Keep impulse engine output at minimum, just to make it look like eddies coming from the Avenger. Open a secure subspace communication's with Admiral Lew."

A holographic projection of Fleet Admiral Lew (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a172/Huntaer/Admiral2copy.jpg?t=1173476249) could be seen, <ah, Vice Admiral Khal. How pleasant of you to contact me. What can I do for you at this fine hour of war?>

Khal nodded acknowledging the fact that Lew was a higher rank than he was, "Admiral. Just to see if you understood the mission briefing. Do you have any idea when Vorman will be arriving?"

Admiral Lew shook his head, <afraid not Khal. We're on our own for now. As to the mission briefing... Yes. I get it.>
---------------------------------------------------------------
The Avenger...

"I didn't get to this position for nothing Khal. Surely you know this."

<Of course Fleet Admiral. After all... After this mission is completed, you'll have what you need to be promoted to Grand Admiral. Lets hope that this mining colony isn't up for any surprise attacks. Good hunting,> the holographic image of Khal saluted Admiral Lew.

"You too Admiral," and he turned off the communications channel, "Comms, cut communication's with the Requital from this point onward. Helm, lay in the discussed course for the planet Doth. Maximum impulse. Open a communication with their traffic control."

"Communication channel open admiral."

The Admiral shifted in his command suit, disguised as a suit similar to what the Alliance used. Jesus... Even with fake uniforms they couldn't get rid of that new suit itch.... "Attention Coredian colony. This is Fleet Admiral Lew of the Huntarian Alliance. We're a prototype ship which was being tested on long range missions. He gave the coordinates of Doth to Jorrus. "If you'll excuse me, I have things to do, people to protect. And might I suggest you change your codes?"

With that, the comm went out and the Administrator sent off a Flash Traffic Message to Issus Military Command AND the Coredian High Command at the same time.

FLASH TRAFFIC:
FLT ADM LEW OF HUNTEMP AT DOTH! REND ASSIST AT ONCE!

"For now, we should do what we can." The Administrator sighed. He turned to his operators. "Raise shields, alert the garrison. We got an Imperial force on our hands."

---------------------------------------------------------------

Mean while...

"Admiral, we're well within weapon's range."

"Keep on waiting. We want them to realize at the last minute. Then Khal will release his surprise weapon upon them."
The Huntaerian ship suddenly saw shields and weapons of the station powering up, along with three Golan II stations and the local garrison fleet of one Strike Cruiser and its corvette escorts. A squadron of fighters were prepped up and flew out of the station.

"What should we do, Administrator?" An underling asked.

"No need for warnings. Open fire, Alpha Strike!" The Administrator ordered.

Simultaneously, all the weapons of the stations and ships opened fire upon the Imperial ship. Everything from turbolasers and laser cannons to missiles.

At the same time, word from Issus came that assistance was on the way. The Seventh Fleet will be dispatched ASAP!

The alert sounded, and the enemy weapon's hit the Avenger dead on... Or did they? With the Molecular Phase Interverter online, the enemy weaponry just simply passed through the ship. However, if the Avenger were to fire their weapons, the enemy would be satisfied with the small fact that the Empire's weapons will be just as useless. Some of the enemy fire, while passing through the Avenger, did however manage to hit the Requital which was sitting right behind it.

"Brace for impact!" Khal grabbed his command chair tightly as his ship was randomly hit by various different weaponry. The ship shook a little bit, and the alarms blared. "Report!"

"Shield's down to 90% strength Admiral. Preparing return fire."

"Negative. Is the Ion Axial Laser charged?"

The security officer nodded his head.

"Fire."

The front of the Requital suddenly glowed a bright blue light, in place of the typical green light which is normally seen by the average Axial Laser. This Ion weapon was targeted towards the main station. As soon as this shot is complete, it will move onto the Gloan III stations, as well as the strike cruiser and the planet below. Hopefully, before the seventh fleet arrives and causes a minor... Inconvenience.

"Sir, the weapons did nothing to the ship but hit something behind it."

"A cloaked ship? Mark point of impact, aim and fire!" The Administrator ordered.

As the weapons targeted the Requital, the sensor officer gasped. "Axial power build up!"

"What?! Brace for impact---"

The ion blast slammed into the station like a fist, shaking it and shutting down everything on it. Several hundred people were killed by electrocution and more had to be admitted to medical bays for burns, overwhelming the doctors.

The Strike Cruiser Requiem took over battlestations and then followed the Administrator's last orders, striking the Requital with everything it had. The Golan II stations followed suit, the good thing being that the ion beams have to reacquire targets. All weapons fire was aimed at the ion axial laser.

A second volley lashed out at the Requital, and at the same time, a live data dump was sent to Issus Military Command so that High Command could review the battle live and perhaps try to find a way to get around that cloak the Avenger's using.

The Requital shook as the enemy's barrage went through the Avenger and hit it's own hull. Khal glared at the screen as the Gloans and the Requiem fired. He shouldn't have fired that Ion cannon.

"Sir! Shields are down to 40%! Marginal damage to hull and other various areas about the ship."

"Helms, move us 6000 kilometers below our present position then full speed ahead towards the Gloans. Make sure you get the ship positioned just so so that we can target one of those confounded platforms." Khal slammed his fists on his command chair, frustrated at the fact he made a... Semi fatal mistake. He shouldn't have fired the Ion Cannon when he did. It was his own hateful impulses which told him to fire first and then have the Avenger fire next. However, help was on it's way. The Nosferatu emerged from the Necrominus, uncloaked. Plainly visible.

::Status report.::

"It would appear that the Requital and Avenger are both in combat my Lord. It would appear that we have arrived just in time for our preformance."

::Bring us to the orbit of the planet and engage the Gloans. We'll give them something to shoot at to provide Khal fire cover as he proceeds to the planet. Order Admiral Lew to assault that Coredian Strike Cruiser. Distract them.::

"Aye sir."

"Commander, another ship just arrived insystem. TSD class, something strange's about it!"

"Damn it! We can't take on two at once! Maintain assault on the first ship!"

Suddenly, assaults from the Avenger shook the Strike Cruiser.

"That other ship just attacked."

A sigh. "Very well. Helm, maneuver the ship so that the first enemy is between us and the second ship. That way, we'll try to have them attack each other."

As the ships moved to counter each other's moves, all the firepower remained (manually) locked upon the Requital, ignoring the other two ships for now. After all, splitting your fire is a bad idea in any battle. Meanwhile, the space station worked hard to bring their systems back online...
