"Today, Chellian scientists announced that work has begun on a new class of aircraft, a so called "Aerial Destroyer". This type of plane will supposedly revolutionize aerial warfare, so says lead Chellian scientist, Alexi Mitonovich. Here is what he had to say about the aircraft..."
"Today, the first flight of the GX-1 was attempted. The aircraft flew for six hours, before landing. The plane could have kept flying much longer, but we gathered the information we needed for now.
This aircraft will revolutionize aerial warfare. No longer will you need a vulnerable plane for AWACS, and an air superiority aircraft to knock down enemy planes. Technology has come to the point where we can mount a quite powerful AESA-based AWACS radar on the destroyer, while the radar is smaller, lighter, more efficient, and requires less manpower to use than older models.
What does this mean? This aircraft is designed for three things. Detection, survivability, and lethality. Detection? This powerful radar can detect non-steath aircraft up to 600km away, and stealth aircraft much further than most fighter aircraft can. Initial tests show F-22's, for example, are detected at 120km.
Survivability. The aircraft has an armoured fuselage. Not all of it is heavily armoured, but the majority of the crew is in the middle of the craft, and hence, this is where the most protection is. The aircraft also has all of the latest countermeaasures, including large banks of Chaff and Flares, and ECM/ECCM abilities. It also has two missile banks, each holding twelve small missiles which are meant to intercept incoming enemy missiles.
Lethality. The aircraft will carry a new type of Chellian Air to Air missile, the BLRAAM, or Beyond Launch Range Air to Air Missile. The range on this missile is 250km, and is heavily shielded against ECM attacks. When the missile locks onto a target, it uses 3d mapping and memory to know whether chaff or other countermeasures are launched to try to distract it from the aircraft. It is a large missile, compared to contemporary BVRAAMs, but the GX-1 is a heavy hitter. It is made to carry up to 12 BLRAAMs, or 24 BVRAAMs. It can also hold weapons such as AShM's, AGM's, and scouting equipment.
The GX-1 is meant to work in conjunction with the chellian C/F-4 line of omni-role aircraft. The GX-1 will be able to interface with up to two squadrens of aircraft at a time(24 aircraft), and provide them with AWACS-quality radar."
"So, there you have it! This has been an exclusive from the absolutist. Join us at Eight!"
