Today, the nation of Eurasia hosts its 2007 Presidential Election, a pivotal moment in the nation's history. Five parties are competing for the position. The candidates are:
Sir Phillip Sinclair - Sir Phillip, current president of Eurasia, is seeking for re-election after a two year period in office. A member of the Libertarian Party, Mr. Sinclair has vowed to promote laissez-faire economics, separate the government from the economy, protect property rights, minimal government bureaucracy, strong civil and political rights, along with a foreign policy of free trade and multilateralism.
Robert Hamilton - A member of the Labour Party, Mr. Hamilton intends to bring the Eurasian Labour Party back to its roots, and promote the peaceful construction of a socialist state, along with heavy government regulation of industry. Mr. Hamilton is also considering pursuing a more unilateral foreign policy.
Giovanni Ferrari - The Conservative Party's candidate, Mr. Ferrari intends to do the following: increase the role of religion, namely Islam, in the government, withdraw from alliances and act unilateral, promote a free market, as well as centralisation of the government.
Ivana Petrov - Running for the Liberal Democrats, Ms. Ivanov plans on the complete and utter devolution of powers amongst the four Home Nations, leaving the central government to be small and rather weak. Also, Petrov intends on increasing the use of phone taps and electronic surveillance, tougher border controls, free government programmes, and some civil liberties, mainly gay rights.
Elliot Crompton - Currently the Minister for Defence, Elliot Crompton is running for the fascist Norsefire Party, and is campaigning for the execution of terrorists, immigrants, homosexuals, people who wear funny hats, members of Parliament and other democratic groups, and people that dislike the Norsefire Party.

The Libertarian Empire obviously voices its support for the Libertarian Party of Eurasia. We feel that should the Libertarian Party claim victory and remain in power, a time of prosperity will finally dawn on Eurasia after so much violence and despair, and once again peace will reign. The Libertarian Empire also hopes that any bad blood between our nations may be put behind us, and that we may begin to help bring Eurasia into a new age of freedom and liberty. Although our forces may still occupy bases in your lands, think of us more as partners than occupiers.

Today, Elliot Crompton of the Norsefire party made the destruction of the Coalition an integral component of his bid for the presidency. To demonstrate his hatred of the Coalition, he ordered two thousand loyal Norsefire members to march around a Whyatican base for six hours, shouting racist, anti-Coalition slogans.

Norsefire supporters marching.
Sir President Phillip Sinclair, the Libertarian candidate, urged that such demonstrations cease.
"The Coalition is only here to assist us," he said in an interview with EBG News. "They have cut down troop numbers, and Coalition nations are here in Eurasia to build, to assist in our development, and to protect us."
Mr. Giovanni Ferrari stated today that: "The Norsefire supporters are doing it all wrong. Yes, we want the Coalition out, but a stupid march isn't going to do it. We need force to get them out, not demonstrations."
"We can't get the Coalition out, despite a desire to do so," said Robert Hamilton this afternoon. "We have to accept it. But that does not mean that we need to be their puppet. Eurasia is a strong, proud nation, and we can make ourselves so powerful that a few scattered bases will not harm us."
Ivana Petrov declined to provide her input.

Hamilton Addresses Crowd of Fifty Thousand In Ipswich
IPSWICH - Mr. Robert Hamilton, the candidate for the Eurasian Labour Party, spoke before a crowd of fifty thousand last night. Individuals all across the country attended to hear the man, who is believed to be the only real competition to Sir Phillip Sinclair, the incumbent.
"Ladies and gentlemen! People of Eurasia! For too long, our country has suffered. For too long, all of us, men, women, children, have suffered under a yoke of oppression. We suffered under dual dictatorship, benevolent as it may be. We suffered under the Atopians We suffered under the Whyaticans. Today, as we have since the creation of our nation three hundred years ago, we suffer due to capitalism!" cried Robert Hamilton in his speech. "Money truly is the root of all evil, and under my administration, Eurasia shall be free of it. Imagine: a society in which all have what they need, a society free from corruption, a society free from greed. My fellow Eurasians, we can have that, but only Labour can bring it to you!"
Mr. Hamilton intends on travelling to Waltham Forest in the next leg of his tour.

Scandal Rocks the Conservative Party
Wavertree - The Conservative Party hung its head in shame today as their candidate for the 2007 Presidential election, Giovanni Ferrari, was found engaging in sexual relations with a male prostitute in Wavertree.
"This is a sad day indeed for the Conservative Party," stated a Times political analyst. "For a party that espouses traditional views and is staunchly against this sort of behaviour, this conduct is terrible for Mr. Ferrari. I'm afraid that this will kill his chance of winning the election in December."
The Conservative National Chairman, Mark Brown, has refused to provide any comment regarding this event besides: "I cannot discuss Mr. Ferrari's conduct nor his eligibility to run for office at this time."

Giovanni Ferrari walked across the platform in the Conservative Party Headquarters' Press Room. He set his notepad on the podium, and double-checked that the teleprompters were activated. The cameras flashed, the film was rolling, and anxious reporters readied themselves.
"As we are all well aware, a few days ago I was caught fornicating with a male prostitute I only know as Juan. I am very ashamed at the magnitude of my misconduct. My actions were inexcusable - to my party, to my family, and to myself. I would like to apologise to my wife: darling, I can't tell you how sorry I am that I let you down. I also want to apologise to the thousands of Conservatives across the country. I let them down as well. On this note, I hereby announce that I have discontinued my bid for the presidency," Giovanni said.
"Mr. Ferrari!" cried the entire room in unison, each reporter vying for his attention.
"Mr. Ferrari! Does this mean that there will be no Conservative candidate this election?"
"Yes, unfortunately it does."

To the Appropriate Foreign Minister of the Britannick Commonwealth Eurasia,
While choosing which candidate to support from the pool set forth by this your electorate is like choosing from which of any four Ruthenians one must to marry, His Majesty, the King, is inclined towards supporting Sir Sinclar. This is because, in His Majesty’s words, “the knighted man will at least bring some nobility to the country of British Londinium (sic)” and that he does not like the others because “Hamilton is a red, Petrov an anarchist, and Crompton a dangerous psychopath.”
His Majesty hopes that his will is made true.
Signed,
The Rt Hon. Jan Sebastien, Lord Chancellor

This is Lone Alliance news coming from British Londinium, recent actions from the Fascist Norsefire party marches a small group of civilians have taken up a cause against it saying, "They can march around those bases all day, but if they try and march the streets, We won't let them!" It is unknown what political position these citizens are but it seems to be mainly made up of Labour party members.
(Renactment of 'Battle of Cable Street' anyone?)
