Religious crisis in Cyredel.

CNN Top News

After a bombing by the "ProteEvanBapTholic" extremist church of Cyredel, the goverment has banned all religion, and anyone practicing it will be sentenced to 10 years in prison and a 15 million Cyren fine. The Goverment has quickly raided the religioous centers all over the Republic. The Haimen Chuch of God Centre was raided by the Goverment, and the priests we're shot on sight and the building was bombed. No response from the goverment, or other nations has been heard yet. We will keep you up to date on the current events of this crisis. Alicia McCarthy, CNN news.

OOC: OK. We n00bs need to band together if we're ever going to get better, after all.
IC: A Formal Statement from the Government of the United Socialist States of Wagdog:
"Although our government is founded upon the principles of Marxism-Leninism in general, we do not approve of religious discrimination or persecution in any form. In this aspect of governance, we follow the principles established by the great Chinese Paramount Leaders Deng Xiaoping and Jiang Zemin, advocating development of "Socialist Spiritual Civilization" in a way that enhances the Revolution wherever it arises.
Accordingly, while we recognize the Cyredelian government's right to self-defense and do not wish to aid terrorism, we cannot support the equally extremist and reactionary actions they have taken in exercise of this right.
Any Cyredelians wishing to apply for sanctuary in our great nation are welcome, as is whatever faith they may practice provided it is done so within the context of our laws. Any attempt to persecute them within our borders will be resisted with the appropriate degree of force, with no options being excluded.
However, since we do not find fault with Cyredelian policies in matters aside from this, so far, we are not hostile to working with the Cyredelian government on a means to end the ProteEvanBapTholic Church's campaign of terrorism. We are eager for their ideas, short of any that continue the current counter-persecution campaign, to resolve this matter; and await their suggestion. As Rilir Alarion nos Carthir, Secretary of State, I have the authority to issue this statement on behalf of the Wagdoggie Government." -- Statement recorded courtesy of Wagdogie Internationalist Broadcasting Corporation, WIBC News

To the Appropriate Minister of Cyredel,

It is my belief, as well as the belief of His Majesty, that you have made a grave mistake. Banning all religion is not the way to please our Lord God. If you truly want divine inspiration, you should only ban the religions that are harmful to the physical realm or to the mental and spiritual health of the people, that is, if you must ban any religions at all.

Although, I must say, the problem here transcends any denominational strife in your realm.

Know that the only truly lawful rule comes from that which is facilitated under Christ. It is as such that those who do not follow said codes lose the privilege of reciprocity. If steps are not taken to reverse this ruling in your state, then I fear for repercussions not only from His Majesty, the King, but also from the other Christians of the land and indeed from the Divine Providence Himself.

Signed,
The Rt Hon. Jan Sebastien, Lord Chancellor

An Empty Hangar, Kubichek Air Base

A single An-70 transport aircraft sat idling outside the hangar. Several figures stood outside, spotlighted by the massive million candlepower lights on its huge doors. Three were in Tiger Stripe Camoflauge uniform, one wore a suit. A man wearing the uniform of a Full Admiral .The figures talked in hushed tones for several minutes, various salutes were exchanged with emotional vigour, and the Admiral strode off.

The massive Propfan engines roared into life, and the three figures carried what looked to be a small fast attack boat into the back of the vibrating aircraft. The door was closed, and the aircraft taxied into the night.

The Admiral watched it go, before lighting up a Marlboro and strolling off. Within ten minutes it was airborne, cleared by air traffic control. Officially, they were off on a training exercise. The real story was much different. And no-one but the three strange figures and the Admiral knew the truth.

IC:

Ten miles outside Cyredel Airspace

The An-70 had dropped to less than a hundred feet about a hundred miles out, after refueling with Kazkahstania's only Air to Air tanker some hundred miles out. The small nation had almost totally updated its armed forces over its other armed forces, minus a tiny navy and some elite army units.

The pilots had no idea which country they were approaching at around five hundred miles an hour, but they were just happy to have coffee and a warm cockpit. Which couldn't be said for the poor Zulu troops in the back.

At three miles out, hopefully under the radar, the rear door was opened and the fast attack vessel was dropped out the rear. The three men jumped out after it, popping their parachites and coordinating towards it after the hit the water.

So far, all part of the training mission scheduled. But what followed wasn't. Too small to be seen on any radar, the Fast Attack Boat, manned by three green figures, entered Cyredel waters, screaming towards the shore.

The driver took one hand of the wheel, and pulled out a necklace, kissing it. Glistening in the moonlight, the christian cross dripped water onto his BDU's.

RE: Religious Terrorism and Human Rights

The Federation of Aunesia would first like to condemn the acts of any terrorist group at work within Cyredel, particularly if said terrorists are acting out of a misplaced belief that they themselves are 'chosen ones' and therefore better than others.

The Federation of Aunesia is a secular state, and the vast majority of its citizens do not believe in 'gods', however we believe in the rights of persons to practice their religion freely, as long as they do so within the law.

We recognise that the Government of the United Federal Republic of Cyredel is acting to defend itself from terrorism, and praises it for taking action to do so, however we condemn the decision to outlaw all religion, and not just to seek out and eliminate the extreme nutcases who wish to forcefully 'convert' others.

We urge you to reconsider this law, but wish you success in your fight against terrorism.

IC:

The little fast attack vessel closed in on the coast. All the three men saw was various lights of small towns on the coast, and some ships in the distance, before the fog closed in. Perfect for a discreet landing, less so for finding their landing spot.

Some hundred miles south of Port Indigo, the crew donned their night vision goggles and made ready. The waves rose up as they approached their selected cove, and closing in was made difficult. The little vessel screamed into the shelter of the big rocks, where it was hidden in a cave behind some rocks.

The three men climbed up the rock face using their climbing gear, before packing up and moving silently inwards. They would sleep by day, but they still have five hours of darkness leaft, and a lot of work to do. First, they had to trek five miles inland, to the heart of a forest, dubbed "Foxtrot Black", where they would set up camp. Target one - the naval port at Port Indigo.

OOC2: Big assumption that there A) are forests and B) you have a naval base there. Should be fun.

To the Appropriate Minister of Cyredel,

This is astonishing. If you were an infidel or even a heathen state, I could understand your country at least claiming that it possesses lawful sovereignty, even if the claim was false. But saying that your atheist government has rightful rule over a realm bears no fragment of sense.

There is never any code of which I have heard that states that a ruler may rule over a realm without a mandate from the Divine Providence.

Your response to my previous admonition was just plain silly. Science governs over the likes of the particles and the humours of the body quite well, but it can not form under its breadth the codes of a civil state.

Also, contrary to your claims, religion is far from useless. For civilized Christians, it instructs us on the will of God, the journey of God’s people, and gives suggestions on living a moral life.

Religion is also not for the weak-minded. Quite the opposite, in fact. The founding of schools for learning and education is a very Christian practice. Even the wretched infidels, barely human, knew the value of learning. They have produced some of the greatest manuscripts on medicine and philosophy that the world has seen. The Christian abbeys of the world are also responsible for producing the greatest scholars. I would like for you to find me an atheist abbey that can boast a more grand library than even the smallest Christian instance of one.

As you should be able to clearly see, though the fog enveloping your eyes seems dense, you are abandoning your very state and civilization to the whims of the Evil One, who tempts those away from our Lord God, and God forsakes those who move away from him. You are leading your people down a very dark path to unlawfulness and depravity.

Know, however, that His Majesty, the King, is very forgiving, and if you see your faults and correct them, his opinion of your nation shall not be harmed. If, however, you continue spreading your own blight, your state will fall prey to a much darker plague.

RE: Immunity of Election Monitors

The Federation of Aunesia wishes to inform all nations currently involved in the situation regarding the crisis in Cyredel that we shall be flying in independent election monitors to verify, or not, the democratic and legitimate nature of the Referendum due to take place on the issue of banning religion.

These independent monitors are diplomatic representatives of the Federation of Aunesia, and their persons are inviolable. Any nation deliberately targeting them, or who knowingly causes them harm or prevents them from carrying out their work, shall be subject to retribution from the Federation of Aunesia.

The Federation of Aunesia would request to all nations that they cease their military action until such time as the referendum is over, to establish whether it is indeed the will of the people of Cyrendel to outlaw religion, and, if so, to what degree this measure is supported.

Following the results of this referendum, the Federation of Aunesia wishes to propose multilateral discussions with the permission of the Cyrendel government, to resolve the disputes which have arisen. Until such time, however, the Federation would urge all other nations to pause for a moment of reflection whilst the referendum takes place.

The Federation of Aunesia,

Recognising that the recent referendum in Cyredel was both fair and legitimate, and that it resulted in an 85% approval for the outlawing of religion, and that therefore the Government of Cyredel's recent legislation to outlaw the practice of religion is therefore valid, and

Recognising that Freedom of Thought is an inviolable Human Right,

Requests that the United Federal Republic of Cyredel make reasonable efforts to assist the emigration of those citizens who do not wish to give up their beliefs to other nations,

Noting that this will not affect the government's ability to bring to justice those engaged in acts of terrorism.

OOC: Night dude. Any chance you could imagine up some info on your naval base at indigo? And whats the fastest train in your country?

My imagination runs wild.

IC: And so the spec ops guy ran down the hill at full pace, stripped off his shirt and suicide bombed the nearest building with a nuke on his chest. I win. You lose. The end.

How dare you advertise your socialist country to our citizens? We grant them more civil right then you ever could, It's our choice to ilegalize Religion, It's ilogical, unethincal, and pitiful.

OOC:
Sorry, and sleep well OK? Since you said you wanted to start RP-ing, I meant n00b insofar as there ;), and I was aware of your population when I said that. I have an embassy/factbook thread at this link: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=513514; only fair to provide since my characters are going to instruct you to consult my embassy, eh? Note also that, although Wagdog's people don't exactly know this, its General Secretary is at least a Dunedain-style long-lived human; and has been ever since the country resurrected in Lazarus (the undead region of NationStates, and why I have Tolkien Elves, Vamps et. al. as citizens to begin with). Before that he was normal, but his country's resurrection changed that, and possibly more...
IC:
An open letter from the General Secretary of the United Socialist States of Wagdog, Comrade Carolinus Horridus:
Dear Mr. President deLanavoux,
It grieves me much to hear such baseless assertions as to the state of liberty in my country from a man who grants his people a similar spectrum of freedoms to my own constitution's, except in matters of religion. And what's worse, one who prescribes absolutely absurd criminal penalties for those caught violating this prohibition, presumably without regard to degree or an offender's capability of suffering said penalty and surviving.
Now, we do understand that your country was oppressed by its religion(s) in the past, but that is hardly a reason to lower your conduct to that level in return. My nation is not a "Civil Rights Love-Fest," for certain; some decades ago a group of Nazist instigators found that out when they started a riot in my capital's streets and I took the necessary measures to restore civil order, right after elections were legalized again following a period of emergency rule in response to the mass panic following our country's resurrection.
But my nation is one where all citizens, be they Human, Were-Human, Elf, Vampire, or whatever else may believe as they see fit; provided it does not lead to criminal or seditious behavior, naturally. In accordance with this ethical posture, we fully support Aunesia's suggestion you allow those religious among you to evacuate on a mutually-convenient timetable to any country they desire, mine or otherwise. It is simply the right thing to do, and gives you your pound of flesh in the bargain. I humbly suggest you take it; while it is still on the table offered by any of us.
I also suggest you consult our State Department, under my Elven friend Mister Rilir Alarion nos Carthir, and learn more before you defame my country again using such outmoded stereotypes about Socialism as you did in your last communication with us. I've heard much in my century of life, and will hear more doubtlessly; but I do wish it were at least accurate at times.
Most Sincerely,
Carolinus Horridus, General Secretary of the United Socialist States of Wagdog Revolutionary Command Council

OOC: That Naval base has about 300 men and some facilties, barracks and such. The fastest train is the Indigo-Cyrepolis FK-1000 Supertrain, but it's quite heavily guarded.

Intercepted internal message from Supreme President Greebo Matlock to
Ambassador on behalf of the Disputed Territories of Greebo Matlock.

Heya Paul,

Yeah some dudes in silly hats just came into my office and they were
really worked up about some religious oppression or other in the ASE,
a member state called Cyredel.

Anyway they said some people of their faith were getting all shot up
and they were bummed about it, and wanted my official permission to
move small arms and maybe a few suitcase nukes out of our territory
and get them into the hands of Cyredelian rebels in currently located in
neutral territory.

All I did was say "Why you asking me man? I'm working on the budget!?
Sure, sure! You can have all the rifles you want - just go to Walmart
and buy them!"

They didn't seem that clever either. I mean you can buy all the stuff
to make a suitcase nuke on the blackmarket. Right on the High Street
if you sweet talk the right people. So why come to me?

So anyway, I'm not giving these guys any rifles or nukes or nothing.
'Cause I don't really care about the ASE, they aren't really important
to my foreign policy at the moment and they never buy any of our imports.

So, if you do see some of our citizens wandering around with nukes and
rifles over there, just look the other way, okay?

Pretend you don't know anything.

Oh yeah and thanks for the Christmas presents! Little Joannie really
liked the snowglobe.

Thanks!

Port Indigo Naval Base

Another day had passed and night had fallen once more. Searchlights sweeped lazily across the open ground before the naval base, unknowingly missing three figures that snuck by in the night.

The plan was simple. Enter, cause distraction, blow something of value then leave, causing as much confusion and disctruction as possible. The whole thing could easily blow up in the teams faces, but they hoped they were too good for that.

After using rubber fence cutters to get through the fence, the team crawled under. Then they split up. One man crawled off towards a nearby barracks with a generator next to it. The other two moved slowly and quietly towards a docked ship. It looked like a container vessel.

The first man laid his large bergen down next to the generator and pulled out some high explosives. Removing a panel from the generator with a small screwdriver, he placed the explosives inside. There was enough to level the barracks and the generator. It was deliberate overkill. He crawled back to the gap in the fence, laying assorted Claymore, C4 Command detonated and Jumping mines along the route he just came. He then set up his large GPMG, facing the other assorted barracks.

The other two men first lay mines along likely attack routes, before moving closer to the enemy ship. They were in luck. It was quiet, and a frigate lay next to it, silent in the night. They took up defensive positions, aimed their weapons and waited.

------------------

The Forest Hideout

The second team arrived, and gathered round a map, lit only by a red torchlight. They would soon sleep, but first they would plan. Marked in dark black ink was the route of the FK-1000 Supertrain, between Indigo and Cyropolis. A perfect target, and only a few miles away. They conferred, before retiring to their sleeping bags. Poor Corporal Webb sat watch behind the camps MG.

OOC: Please let me know if I'm god-modding a bit, like I said before, first RP :)

On the forested coastline of Korbonis, Patrol Team 56, approximately midnight:

A 3 man team stalk the night, KSARP's in hand and loaded. They wear a normal uniform, but it is worn and tattered. They wear over their skins and most of their uniform, improvised camouflage. Amateur huntsmen from their youth, growing up in the same area of rural Korbonis, they slowly continue their patrol run through the woods, silent. The compulsory military training they went through a few months ago has prepared them well for keeping silent, but not for combat.

There is fear in their eyes, as they peer at every branch and bush as if gaping at the enemy. They control themselves well, but it will not take much for them to be pushed over the edge.

Footsteps, light and supressed, catch their attention, far off to the east. They call in their position, as they do every 10 minutes or if they deviate from their patrol path, and set off to investigate, quietly taking positions in a delta formation.

Meanwhile, at the USSK First Aerobase:

Dozens of fighter jets begin to fuel up, and prepare themselves for patrols in the sky, while radar towers watch for incoming bombers.

SAM sites dot the surrounding area, prepared to shoot down any threat to their home.

Tension grips the USSK as it braces itself for a seemingly imminent fight.

BREAKING NEWS

A passenger ferry in the Cove of Cyredel, a mere mile away from Cyrepolis,
has exploded killing all 139 passengers on board.

A radical leader of the ProteEvanBapTholic faith, Elijah Jones, has released
an audio recording from his complex in the Disputed Terrorities of Greebo
Matlock, in which he has taken credit for the disaster.

Elijah Jones transcript -

"People of Cyredel, we have shown you that our god is truly righteous.
ProteEvanBapTholicism has long been derided as a splinter religion from
the truth path. HOWEVER god has shown you his favor of us and our cause
by allowing us to sensely murder your citizens, MANY OF WHOM are also
ProteEvanBapTholic! Even though most of those killed were also
ProteEvanBapTholic, they understand that they have laid down their lives
for our great cause.

Today we attack the waters. Tomorrow the land, and the sky, and possibly
any underground method of transport - basically your whole public transport
system and maybe a few buildings.

Our god is truly loving and kind.

Death to the unbelievers."

[ENCRYPTED MESSAGE]

To: Cyredel
From: The Avisronite Department of State

We believe that while a government should have little to say in the day-to-day actions of its citizens, that same government has a responsibility to remain strong enough to protect the personal liberty of individuals from other individuals and organizations. Further, we fully believe that a government must maintain the ability to agressively defend the integrity of the society it is established to protect and defend.

While we ourselves strongly believe and support Freedom Of and From Religion, it is directly obvious to us that we are able to do so because the religious communities of Avisron were violently held accountable for their own actions several centuries ago and are no longer powerful enough to launch "revolutions."

At the time these persecutions took place the Avisronite government was not powerful enough to defend Freedom of Choice. If it had been strong enough, however, it would have been our responsibility to help defuse the situation in much the same way you are doing now.

With that said, we would like to make an offer. We present to you the possibility of having a total of 15,000 Avisronite troops deployed to Cyredel in order to assist in the upgrade of your domestic police force. These troops would retrain your police force in order to better enforce your laws. Further, the LFA is willing to purchase police hardware for your nation and further train your force in how to operate said hardware.

This offer is only on the table because believe in planning for the future. While the immediate threat to the integrity of Cyredel isn't breathtakingly high, in years to come the religious community could begin to resort to acts of terrorism in order to launch a civil war. Coupled with the possible outside actions of larger nations, this could cause instability which would result in more deaths than are necessary. We see Cyredel as the perfect example of a nation facing a nightmare scenario which could easily be avoidable. We do not want our school-children to look back on Cyredel in 30 years and wonder why nothing was done to avoid the collapse of the nation.

Please, for the sake of yourselves and your society, think about our offer. What do you honestly have to lose?

We await your response.

Eurasia Condemns Cyredel

In response to Cyrdel's prohibition on religion, Sir President Phillip Sinclair publicly condemned the nation of Cyrdel.

"I, myself, am not a religious man - far from it. But the fact remains that it is an inalienable human right to practice one's religion," Sinclair announced. "It is appalling that Cyrdel has ignored those rights."

Eurasia has not only condemned Cyrdel, but engaged in a full oil embargo against the nation.

The Caliph sent a hand-written letter to the government of Cyredel.

From the Office of the Caliph
You have made a grave mistake in banning religion. A VERY grave one.

Icovir has a designated plan for action when it comes to these things.

Step 1 - Oil Embargo

Step 2 - Embargo of all things

Step 3 - Al-Mujahideen (Icovirian Special Forces) deployment to take out all religious citizens (of any religion) from your country

Step 4 - War

We are getting tired of these bans on religion. Therefore, we will skip steps 1 and 2 and go straight to step 3.

If you try to stop even one Mujahideen from acheiving his/her goal, it'll be seen as an act of war and we'll progress to step 4.

To: Cyredelian Government
From: Mr. White, foreign affairs officer

Our government and our Emperor support your administration's recent decision to outlaw the practice of religion. This is indeed an impressive first step on the path to ultimate peace and international singularity.

We have seen that, as of late, many other nations have taken a firm interest in your policy setting, one even going so far as to begin a war. This is an unwanted, unwaranted invasion of a sovereign nation, and we will not allow this to occur on an already so advanced nation as yours. You will remain free; you will follow the path...

Our armies are numerous and our fleets vast. We will be your shield and your sword, and you will fear no enemy. To you has been deployed the entirety of our Theta battle group, returning from our short-lived action in the recent E.V.I.L alliance conflict. More than one-thousand combat ships and assorted transports and support craft are included in this force, to be commanded by Fleet Admiral Rabiyinov. He will be accompanied by five-hundred thousand of the Emperor's Grazskar Legionnaires and many thousands of vehicles. No harm shall befall you, we declare it.

Good day,
Mr. White.

Office of His Imperial Majesty Serph,
Lord Dekker, Chief of Paladins

To the Honored Representatives of the Government of the United Federal Republic of Cyredel:

It has come to our attention that your population has constitutionally banned all forms of religious expression. While this is troubling, it is certainly the right of every sovereign nation to determine its own course. However, we cannot accept the senseless executions of those whose crime is simply to follow a religious path.

In the interests of promoting peaceful relations between our two lands, we propose that those citizens of Cyredel who have run afoul of your recent referendum be allowed to emigrate to Krioval. We would be most interested in discussing the feasibility of such an endeavor, though the Free Lands of Krioval would stipulate a temporary moratorium on executions as they pertain specifically to this referendum until such talks can be concluded. It is our most fervent hope that your government will choose this peaceful way.

OOC: BL, I thought you had a ban on religion going for quite a while recently?
Step 3 - Al-Mujahideen (Icovirian Special Forces) deployment to take out all religious citizens (of any religion) from your country
... you're going to kill all the religious people in his nation? Sorry. But anyway, you are sending troops into his national borders... I'm pretty sure that counts as an act of war right away if he chooses. Oh, and good first RP. No gun smilies and correct spelling puts you in the 95th percentile of newbies. :p

Official Statement of the Democratic Republic of Hamilay

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e267/Flaw3dLegacy/hamilay2mottogo7_small.jpg

Whilst we do not support a blanket ban on the practice of religion, the Hamilayan government respects the United Federal Republic of Cyredel's right to national sovereignity and understands that desperate measures must be taken when under terrorist threat. However, although a ban of this sort can be tolerated, the Democratic Republic will not support the summary execution of suspects without trial under any circumstances, such as the Haimen Centre incident. We call on Cyredel to cease all actions of this sort immediately. If this condition is met, Hamilay will aid Cyredel against the terrorist threat of the PEBT extremists. Otherwise, further measures may be taken.
