The Creation of the Cotenshire Reform Party (Open MT)

Today, several party members from the Liberty Party and the Socialist Party split off and formed the Cotenshire Reform Party. This has come after several years of discontent and fighting over fundamental issues inside the two parties.

Installed as party chairmen is Folkmar Lubinsen, a Vandal from Frankenshire and former Socialist Party member. This political move has sparked outrage from the Liberty Party and the Socialist Party, with Liberty Party chairmen, Henri Gespesie, saying that the Reform Party members have “no sense of moral integrity or reciprocity” and Socialist Party chairman Markward Rundel remarking that “this Reform Party nonsense is simply the worst thing to ever happen to the Dominion.”

This event is the largest upheaval in party system since the Liberty Party and Egalitarian Party merged in 1912, and separated the following year, with the Egalitarian Party becoming the modern Socialist Party. As to be expected in Cotenshire, there have been massive riots and civil strife in areas that were predominantly allegiant the Liberty Party or Socialist Party.

In total, the Liberty Party lost 21 of its 122 members of Parliament to the Reform Party and the Socialist Party lost 18 of its 74. The creation of the Reform Party has been hailed as a death knell to any attempt the opposition parties can make to dethrone the juggernaut Conservative Party, which lost none of its 784 parliamentary seats.

With 39 members of parliament and several members of local governments now under the Reform Party, it has become the fifth largest party in the Dominion. The Conservative Party is first, with 784 seats, the Liberty Party second, with 101 seats, the Catholic Party, which is taking the spot formerly held by the Socialist Party, is third with 59 seats, and the Socialist Party is fourth with 56 seats. Much smaller parties or independents hold the remaining 50 seats.

The King quipped today, after hearing of the news, that he is happy about the formation of this new party “because, unlike those God forsaken Reds, they support their liege,” referring to the Socialist Party and a few fringe Communists.

The following is an excerpt from Mr. Lubinsen’s rather lengthy speech following the announcement of the formation of the Reform Party:

“…It is shameful that the Socialist Party has grown to be as out of touch as its hated reactionary opponent. It stands no longer for the people, but instead for abstract concepts and ideas, which, with its current direction, can not be practically implemented into the Dominion’s society.

What must be realized is that Cotenshire has many problems, which the current government either chooses not to fix or does not acknowledge. These problems also can not be fixed by the theoretical doctrines of radical socialism. Instead of assuming that one political theory will sit well with everyone, we must examine the problems one at a time and fix them in ways that suit the local populace.

As I see it, there are 16 main categories that all of Cotenshire’s problems fit under. Namely, these categories are social, political, economic, environmental, ethics, transportation, military, cultural, religion, socioeconomic, law enforcement, jurisprudence, infrastructural, agricultural, medical, and ethnic issues. Each of these categories has several problems that I believe are not even being addressed or looked into by our current government. It is my hope that these issues shall be observed by the government, and, God willing, this same hope will someday be the hope of every man in Cotenshire…”

(OOC: This thread is open to responses, questions directed to Folkmar Lubinsen, or anyone else for that matter, and is open to pretty much anything except military engagements. Not that I know how a thread like this can involve military actions, but you never know with the way things are in II these days.)

Today, there was an attempt on the life of Folkmar Lubinsen, Chairman of the newly created Reform Party, by an angry member of the Socialist Party. The incident occurred when Folkmar was visiting the home of a fellow Reform Party member in northern Frankenshire.

The assassination attempt was apparently on impulse, as the criminal, a Frank by the name of Ludwig Gondeln, has said that he did not know Mr. Lubinsen was coming to his town. As soon as he saw Mr Lubinsen, who was about fifty yards away, he pulled out a revolver and fired.

Mr. Lubinsen was struck in the upper right thigh, and it is thought that the leg will have to be amputated. It is unclear as of yet whether Mr. Lubinsen will be stepping down from the position or whether he will continue to be Party Chairman.
