An Abyss Scientist enters the Black Market (OPEN)

Wilhelmsborough

Location: A port city of ill-repute

Bernard Milosovic of Wilhelmsborough passed through the streets of the port city, dodging the pushcart peddlers, and passing by drunken men lying in the gutter.

The greying middle-aged man sighed. He did not want to be here, away from safety and security of the Principality. But this mission could have great benefits to weapons research in the Abyss. Also, the scientists had drawn straws to see who would go, and Milosovic just so happened to be the unfortunate loser.

He checked his directions. He was close. Passing a group of prostitutes, Milosovic entered an alleyway. There, among piles of garbage and refuse, was the signpost for a dingy little bar, the "Mastadon and Rook."

He opened the old wooden door and walked in. The patrons of the establishment quickly looked up to take a look at the newcomer. Then, once they saw that Milosovic wasn't a cop, they returned to their drinks.

He walked up to the bar.

"Killigan's Irish Red." he ordered.

The bartender, a fat man in a beerstained apron, raised an eyebrow at Bernard. Then he reached for a bottle and a bottle of the scientist's chosen beer. He opened it, poured it, and handed it to Milosovic.

"$4.50," grunted the bartender.

Milosovic handed over the money. But included within the pay was a one hundred dollar bill.

The bartender looked at the scientist in surprise. But he remembered that business was business.

The bartender gestured towards two booths of the opposite wall. "Seat yourself." he said curtly.

Milosovic took his drink and walked over to the other side of the wall. Over the first booth hung a plain red flag. Milosovic passed the booth by. He didn't want to sit here. According to the information he was given, this booth was where people made deals for killings and assassinations. He wanted the booth with the black flag hanging over it. The black flag which stood for the black market.

Bernard Milosovic, scientist of the Abyss, had come here to make a purchase. He only hoped that the "merchants" had what he was looking for.

His beer in hand, Milosovic sat down at the booth. There, he lit up a cigarette and waited for somebody to show.

A thin man walked in the scene, sneakily and quietly. He moved up to the scientist without gaining too much attention from the surroundings, and asked, "Do you have my cash?" in a low murmur, without blinking, while keeping his right hand in his left brown coat's pocket, concealing a suspicious device.

Milosovic smiled.

"Excellent!" he said. The scientist lowered his voice so only the merchant could here him.

"I'm in need of explosives. High-powered explosives. Nothing nuclear, just something more powerful than octanitrocubane."

Milosovic leaned in.

"If you could get me what I need, I promise that you will be handsomely rewarded."

SS Igelamus, Docking at Wilhelmsborough

The hustle and bustle was unmistakable. Port cities almost always were a disorderly mess of supplies and vagabonds, and this place did not disappoint. Amid the smells of salt water and sounds of sloshing sea, a man looked urgently at the tall clock tower ahead and to his right. His neatly dressed form stood nearly three quarters of a foot shorter than the rest of the ship's debarking patrons, and his face was slightly pale, a fact attributable to the rough seas the Igelamus had experienced the previous two days.

Pushing his way past two drunken layabouts, the diminutive man silently nodded to a man carrying a conspicuously large duffel bag as he stepped off the exit ramp leading from a bulkhead to the steady port ground. After a short adjustment period to the firm concrete of the port dock, he headed swiftly toward the dock's exit, already several minutes late. Pushing his way through an ever thinning crowd, the man reached the dock's exit and took to the important task of evading the pervasive eyes of the custom's officers. Although it was relatively easy to avoid the drunken eyes of the harbor watch, it still took far too long, only serving to heighten the man's tension. After he was out of sight, he set off at a brisk trot unfitting of his outfit.

Passing several alleyways, the man looked uneasily at his surroundings. Prostitutes guarded each corner, desperate for the meager change that the men off the ships presented. It was a horrible sight, especially to the man. In his home country, he had both been born out of this situation, and had grown to run the situation. He had his hands in many businesses, most of which were frowned upon by the Matriarchs. But the fact that occurred here unsettled him all the more. Where there were prostitutes, there was a crime ring just as powerful as his, eager to eliminate any competition that might present itself. He would have to be careful while he was here, and he quickly remembered the man with the duffel bag as he turned to his left into the correct alley.

The 'Mastadon and Rook' sign swung slightly, which was odd, as the alley had little air movement to disturb the pungent stench that hung thickly everywhere. As he read the sign more carefully, he also noticed the spelling error in 'mastodon.' He chuckled slightly as he drew conclusions toward the man who must have named the shop, and stepped in softly.

And eerie feeling swept over him as nearly two dozen eyes sized him up, then returned to their glasses as he was judged to be no threat. He noticed, however, two sets of eyes that paid him no mind. In a shadowed corner of the bar, far to the back beneath a black banner, two men sat discussing things with heads close. Two men. The man jerked uneasily as his mind mulled over the fact that he was so late, and then he settled down. Adjusting his suit, ruffled by his brisk pace getting here, the man walked evenly toward the two men and said jovially, "hello lads, mind if I join you?"

The thin man grunted inaudibly, and stuffed his hand in his left pocket, holding onto something. He asked, "Who are you?" in a mostly western accent, with a few traces of an Indian accent, as he quickly took out his dark sunglasses, and put them on, while keeping his right hand in his coat.

The man smiled quickly, a toothy grin showing a row of perfectly aligned teeth. Although it was clearly a gesture of amusement, an inherent sliver of malice showed through the visage, giving him an aura of being a powerful enemy, or a strong ally. "I am unfortunate enough to have the pleasure of informing you that that fact has been lost to time. My mother named me nearly thirty seven years ago, but that epitaph has not been uttered in nearly as long. My associates refer to me as Alain, and you may do so as well. I hope that by my late arrival I have missed nothing of importance...," Alain eyed the man who had spoken steadily, "you need not fondle that weapon, good sir! I came unarmed and undefended. I will do you no harm."

He pronounced these words with an air of finality, and grabbed a chair from a nearby table, sitting at the outer edge of the table. He looked squarely at the other man, eyes questioning his graying hair and relatively frail body. There was no question that this man was the organizer of the meeting, as he was quite obviously no man of war. Alain suspected that he was the scientist, and so looked back at the other man.

Also thin, this man was most assuredly younger than his table mate. His eyes shone with anger at Alain's apparent intrusion, and he had as yet to release his grasp upon the occupant of his pocket. Alain chuckled and smiled at the man once more, "relax, son. I mean you no harm."

Bernard Milosovic nodded at Alain, who had just taken his seat at the booth.

"Pleased to meet you. I'm guessing that you too are a...merchant as well?"

In his mind, Milosovic was quite surprised that there were now two merchants vying for his money. But two merchants were better than one. They might compete with each other to make a more appealing deal for him.

Milosovic took a drag of his cigarette. He was going to take advantage of this new situation.

"Me and my friend here," he gestured to the thin man, "were just discussing high-powered explosives. I trust that you are well-versed in this field."

The thin man identified himself: "My name is Victor. That is all there is for you to know about me. Nothing less, nothing more. However Alain, from your accent I know that you are from the UK. Your teeth tell me that you are very rich, maybe a multimillionaire.

"You may deal in Arms or Weaponry. How do I know this? You are rich." he concluded.

Alain's eyes moved from his fellow merchant to the old man. He pulled a flask of liquid from his coat pocket and took a swift swig, swishing the amber liquid between his teeth before answering, "indeed, sir, I am a merchant as well. My company is of considerable renown in my home country, and as they say, all publicity is good publicity, right lad," he looked happily back at his fellow merchant and took another swig. "I do indeed have considerable experience with high explosives. I have been told that I had quite the knack for assembling 'party favors' as I like to call them, before I became to valuable to the administration at the time to risk any more limbs. But we are not here to discuss the past, I am sure. I have connections capable of procuring nearly any item necessary, and few in the past have been... foolish... enough to ask questions in the past. So I wonder, what exactly is it that you require, good man?"

Milosovic smiled. "Well, if you don't want any questions about your past, then none you will recieve!"

He took a drink of his beer before continuing. "But anyway, I am looking for a powerful explosive device or material, preferably stronger than HMX or Octanitrocubane. Something that could rip a hole in a battleship. And I need a steady supply of it."

Milosovic took a drag of his cigarette. "My associates and I are willing to pay a lot of money to get what we are looking for."

Alain's pants pocket beeped briefly, and he smiled as he pulled a mobile device out of it's holder. Eyes scanning the screen quickly, Alain broke out chuckling quickly and turned to his colleagues.

"Gentlemen, it just so happens that rather than boasting about my company's abilities, I was able tonight to arrange a live demonstration," Alain's face showed a swift moment of complete and utter malice, and then it was arranged carefully into it's previous toothy grin. "If you have cellular devices or a laptop, I would ask that you turn them on now. If not, then I will show you myself what my associates are capable of arranging." He waited expectantly for the others two to draw out their devices.

The man who walked through the door was a prime example of one of the two types employed by the LOKI intelligence agency. Both were nonexistent. There was no LOKI intelligence agency. But the first type of nonexistant LOKI intelligence agents was the prime example of Aesonic heritage. Seven foot tall, broad shoulders, all in all a large man. He had long blond hair in a single braid. He was, in short, the type of man that draws attention to himself.

He burst through the doors, with a beautiful woman holding onto each of his arms. "Bartender!" He bellowed, "Bartender, my friends and I require that you render unto us alcoholic beverages!"

The man that entered behind him was of average build, and all in all unremarkable. He carried a briefcase, and wore a sports jacket, with a suspicious bulge in the inner left pocket.

He quietly placed a bill in front of the bartender, and made a discreet inquiry, with which he was quietly directed to the booth under the black flag. He arrived in time to hear Milosovic's need, but didn't speak up immediately.

"If you do not mind," he said calmly, "I would be most interested in seeing this demonstration."

Alain coughed slightly as neither of his table mates had a internet capable device, and then turned his cell phone to them. It's display shone brightly and lit the table and eerie blue haze. The Primdaltos National (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12233398&postcount=2) news site sat open, and he allowed both of his associates to look. "This attack was my friends' doing. Heptanitrocubane, not unlike the substance you suggested earlier, sir, was the explosive of choice, and my contacts in the Knights give me more access to it than almost any man on the planet. I hope this display was satisfactory, sir," Alain grinned once more, his teeth showing again.

Alain started, his heart beating quickly as he sized up the man. He had been far too lenient with his safety up to this point. Not only had he sat with his back to the door, he has been too interested in the meeting to keep an eye on his surroundings. He looked the man over once more, and questioned him. "Who are you that you feel it necessary to disturb our meeting here, man?"

Victor knew that these were not ordinary people.

The first man, who was seven feet was most likely in employ of a foreign power, or was a hitman.
The woman herself was a distractor. She most likely herself had a gun, or a wire.

The third man was most likely some one who was interested in their meeting, though he could have a bomb in his briefcase.

This was all thought by Victor in the time frame of 2 seconds, thanks to his intense training. He once again stuck his hand in his coat, holding onto something of deadly origin.

He himself was not a fool, and had learned the hard way how many of these meetings went, and thus had come armed. Heavily armed.

He pulled out his cellphone. A live demonstration? This was a very unusual turn of events. Hopefully this man didn't mean any malice towards him.

"Alright, my phone's on. What happens now?"

Just then, a man burst into the bar. He traveled with two women in each arm. Quickly he moved up to the bar.

Alain wondered silently how the man had known his name, but thought little of it. Names were a dime a dozen in his field of work, and his name was growing rather quickly. "Ah, yes, I was about to make my display when your friend barged in." Alain had a strange respect for the man that had just joined their table. "Quite interesting," said Delta. "The National Archives? Very interesting indeed. I presume that there's more to this than meets the eye. Any common thug can cause an explosion. What was in the National Archives that required destruction? And what escaped the destruction?" He shook his head. "Nevermind. I would be disappointed, in fact, if you answered those questions. You've proven that you are capable of supplying and delivering explosives. Allow me to make a somewhat more straightforward demonstration."

He drew a small package out of his pocket and set in on the table. "Kraven C-12. There's five hundred grams of it there, enough to bring down a building. Feel free to inspect it. It's perfectly harmless, unless I dial a specific number on this cell-phone."

Milosovic's breath caught in his throat as he read the report of the destruction of the Primdaltos National Archives. All at once, he grew very scared of the man sitting not a meter away. He had to watch himself, and be careful with his choice of words.

"A...a small pack of explosives took d-down a building of that size? A great deal of damage I can understand, but an entire building? What on earth were they using?"
Primdaltos
21-01-2007, 03:23
Alain responded to the scientist first. He was the one with the money, after all. "The explosive of choice was heptanitrocubane, not that different in fact from the octonitrocubane you yourself mentioned earlier. It is much more powerful than HMX, and much more acquirable than octonitrocubane. My contacts in the Knights provide me with a supply larger than almost any man in the world."

Alain then turned back to Delta, who had just set approximately half a kilogram of explosives on the bar table. "Indeed," Alain breathed, his eyes flickering toward a man who carried enough explosives in his pocket to take this bar and the surrounding buildings to the netherworld. "I have heard of the use of C-12 previously, I am interested in how it was acquired, but I realize that that point is moot. I believe we have all made our points somehow or rather, and so it is time to talk more business." His eyes moved away from Delta, again landing on the scientist. "It is your decision, each of us is entirely competent to suit your needs, it seems. So how will you make your decision?"

"Let me show what our explosive can do", commented Victor. "Type this address in your browsers". Everyone did as he commanded and a video of a test of Terbium popped up. It showed a man dropping a few drops of it in a jar of water, then running away as fast as he could from the site.

He then activated a laser fired at the jar, and suddenly the screen turned to a harsh white as light filled the screen, then darkened to normal levels to reveal a 10 foot deep crater.

"Are you convinced ?", asked Victor. "It's terribly expensive, and hard to manufacture, but it has several fail proofs and is quite deadly."

OCC: It's not god modding. It is actually anti matter contained in tiny capsules that create a magnetic containment field for the AM. When the laser hit it, it melted the capsule's outer shell, releasing the anti matter, and the anti matter explodes. The heat produced melts the other capsules, and so on. The only reason water was used was because it acts as "shrapnel" and produces the large crater.

"Very well. What you're about to see is a demonstration that took place about a week ago. The building is thirty stories high, of standard construction, although it was constructed on an abandoned island to avoid unnecessary attention." He also provided a website. On it was a DVD quality video, of a large building, in the middle of what appeared to be an enormous parking lot.

"Five hundred grams of C-12 were used here, positioned in the center of the first floor" said Delta, calmly. Suddenly there was an explosion. It ripped through the first several floors of the building, blowing out windows and walls alike. The building seem to hang, suspended, for a moment, and then began leaning dangerously. Within a few seconds it collapsed completely.

"Of course, it would be fairly simple to fake this test, which is why I'm not asking you to buy on faith." He pushed the packet of C-12 towards the scientist. "Consider this a free trial. If you find it satisfactory, leave a message here. We'll be in touch."

He turned to Victor. "I am sorry, but I'm not authorized to sell to anyone besides Mr. Milosovic."

Bernard was shocked at Delta's generousity.

"Why, thank you very much sir!" he said, taking the package of C-12 into his coat. "I greatly appreciate your kindness. We will examine this, and if we like what we see, well...I'll come back to purchase more!"

Milosovic turned to Victor and Alain. "I would also like to test the heptanitrocubane and the Terbium. Therefore, I'm willing to make a purchase of said materials. What are your prices?"

[OOC: I have no idea on the price of this, it's experimental etc... I am going to make an educated guess and just up it or lower it to whatever happens to be realistic.]

"I believe that a price of five hundred dollars per kilogram is a realistic and doable price, Mr. Milosovic, would you not agree?"

Milosovic nodded.

"That's a perfectly reasonable price." Better than I could have imagined! he thought. "I'll purchase 500 kilograms worth. I believe that comes out to $250,000 dollars. I hope that this is acceptable."

"I'll buy 1 kilo too. So um, that is about half a mil?", asked Victor.

Is it dead?

No it's not. You have yet to make your price for the Terbium. My character asked you for it a couple posts ago.

Oh yea..

IC: "You see, terbium is hard to manufacture but it is worth its cost. I'm starting at 5,000,000,000 per kilo. That packs a force of 8 megatons. 5 mil of it would more than level a building... It would be a Hiroshima. All at a reasonable price of course", Victor countered his opponent's offer.
