Dominion of Doomity
“Hurry up, the shows about to start!” little Joshua called from the living room, his eyes glazed over and riveted to the 42” Panasornic television on the wall.
“We’re coming son, your mom’s still finishing dinner.” called Mr. Tullover, as he said at the kitchen table, reading his evening paper, smoke wafting from the pipe in his mouth, filling the air with a rich tobacco scent. Across the room, Mrs. Tullover was removing the large pot of spaghetti from the stove, and moving it over to the sink. She strained the noodles into another pot, and declared, “Dinner’s ready kids, come and get your bowls”
“Oh boy!” shouted Joshua, as he leapt from his place in front of the television and bolted for the kitchen, almost knocking his sister, Tessa, over as he sped away
“Little brat!” she called after him. “No, Bobby, I wasn’t talking to you.” she said, returning her attention to the Norkia cell phone glued to her ear. “Yeah, my brother, yeah, he’s a douche, oh speaking off, did you see Sally’s hair today, ohmygod, she looks like such a whore-“
“Tessa!” shouted Mrs. Tullover, waving a wooden spoon at her daughter, flinging a small amount of spaghetti sauce to the white, linoleum floor. “You watch your language!” she gasped “Now see what you’ve made me do! You’ve mad me spill sauce on my nice clean floors with your foul mouth, I spent all day scrubbing them!” she placed her hands on her hips, “What do you have to say for yourself, young lady?”
“That it sucks to be you?” asked Tessa, bitter-sweetly
“George, do you hear this back-talk!” raved Mrs. Tullover
Without looking up from his paper, Mr. Tullover declared “Kids, listen to your mother”
Sarcastically, Tessa replied “Sorry mom.” As she took her bowl of spaghetti from the table, and made her way out of the kitchen and towards her room
“Aren’t you going to stay to watch the show?” asked Joshua
“History is lame, Joshua, and so is spending time with my family.” She scoffed, the sounds of her incessant babbling on the cell phone ended abruptly as the door to her bedroom closed
“Come on, come on, its starting!” Joshua exclaimed, as he raced back to the television, food in hand.
“Come on dear, we’d better not miss this, Joshua would be devastated.” Said Mrs. Tullover, standing up after wiping up the sauce on the floor with a wet rag.
“Uh huh, yeah.” Said Mr. Tullover, moving his pipe in his mouth.
“George” Mrs. Tullover said, a slight growl, and warning, in her voice
“Huh, what?” asked Mr. Tullover, finally looking up.
“Joshua wants us to watch his show with him, it’s so nice he’s taken an interest in history, don’t you think?”
“Yeah, I do, kid will do good in school, he’s a sure bet for the government college vouchers we get for the kids…hell, we ought to apply Tessa’s to him, to, she’s going no where but the street corner at this rate, she’s even starting to dress like a tramp, I mean—“ Mr. Tullover rose from the table, anger creeping into his voice
“Calmness dear, you know what the Deacon says about patience. “The Lord sayith—“ Ms. Tullover began
“I’m aware of what the Lord sayith, Becky.”
“Then follow it, dear.
“Come ON, its starting!” shouted Joshua
“We’re coming, boy” said Mr. Tullover, then, lowering his voice “This discussion isn’t over.” With that, he grabbed his paper, and pipe, and proceeded to his favorite chair in the living room, and settled in to it.
Mrs. Tullover crossed herself, and muttered something that sounded like “Lord give me strength…” and she too settled into her spot on the couch.
“Tonight on the History Channel, take a look as “History Revisited” takes a look at Doomity’s glorious past, as we take a look at the Corporate Wars, the last major war fought in Doomity, nearly 50 years ago…”
Speeorad City
Dominion of Doomity
Jet fighters flash across the screen, loaded down with air-to-ground munitions, below, the desert terrain screaming by. The scene shifts to an Infantry Fighting Vehicle formation entering a city, devastated, smoke billowing form the sky scrapers, explosions can be heard in the distance. Another shift to a helicopter gunship’s nose mounted camera, set to infa-red, as fire erupts from its mounted cannon, and explosions ripple across the ground. A voice over begins as the scene shows soldiers, armed assault carbines, fast roping out of a helicopter onto the roof helipad of a tall skyscraper, taking ground fire from below, destroyed surface-to-air emplacements can be seen., smoke and firing spewing fro the wreckage.
“The Corporate Wars, Doomity’s last major wars, were a time if immense blood shed, civil strife, and savage civil war.”
Cut to naval destroyer launching a cruise missile…”Several factions vied for power of this great nation, each with an agenda, and an ultimate goal, to set their CEO upon the throne once reserved for the King, at Speeorad Hall.” The scene shifts to a large building, stately looking in and of itself, with large pillars, and massive floor to ceiling windows, it looks dated, as if it has seen much history. Banners hand from the tops, massive embroidered symbols of the Monarchy of Doomity waft in the breeze, a crowd has gathered at the gate, there is a line of military police, and the palace wrought iron fence, between the seething mob, and the governing building of Doomity. From somewhere in the crowd, a Molotov cocktail is hurled towards the police line, exploding and splashing fire in their midst, the military police office raises his ornate sword, and levels it at the crowd, and shouts “FIRE!”.
The scene shifts again, to a small airborne tank picking its way through dense jungle, a formation of Airborne Rangers around it, a missile screeches in form somewhere off camera, catching the tank in its side. “No region of the country was safe, but it was this costly civil war that united Doomity under one banner, and brought peace in our time. This is the story of the brave men and women who fought for a free Doomity,” the scene changes to a Blue octagon, and 4stylized T’s, which looked a lot like outward pointing arrows, emerging outward from the middle in gold, “this is the story of Trendisec, and its rise to power.” The scene fades out.
A middle aged man sits in a high backed, expensive looking chair, behind him, various military artifacts, some ancient, some modern, are arranged on displays shelves, and countless books line the walls, He gently rests his pipe on its tray, and clasps his hands together into a pyramid, looking directly into the camera
“Good evening, my name is Chest Montz, welcome to the show. Tonight we’ll take an in-depth look at the Corporate Wars, and how the great nation of Doomity rose from the ashes of civil war to achieve its place in the modern world
The voice over begins again
“King James Hughes V” it began, as a picture of a man dressed in fine robes, with a crown atop his head, adorned in jewels, riding in an open topped automobile waved to a crowd of onlookers, as confetti rained down from 2nd story windows.” 21st ruler of the Kingdom of Doomity, had only taken the crown seven months before. A young ruler, he was not well versed in the ways of politics, as his father had been. Though highly educated, he lacked the intuition that great leaders posses. This intuition had allowed King James’ father to remain in power, and avoid treachery, despite a number of costly economic, and social, mistakes. ”
The scene shifts to an aired image of a shanty town, the poverty is obvious, the homes are run down and broken, and the streets are unpaved. “Famine, as well as bad economic policies, namely the nationalizing of the nations economy, and state-owned manufacturing, as well as the institution of a planned economy, enacted by the former King, King Johan Hughes IV, noted Economist, Sarah Baker
The scene shifts to an older woman, seated at a desk, with a panel window behind her, over looking a downtown metropolis. “Planned economies will not work, the government needn’t be involved in the affairs of production, unless it’s giving contracts to private corporations. Think of it this way, if the government says, “make us 10,000 pairs of socks for the year, and sell them at this price. What I those socks don’t sell? What if only 900 pair’s f socks sell? Even worse, what if we need 100,000 pairs of socks? Where are they going to come from? It is the job of the corporations to look at market trends, and to decide production and marketing based on them, not some Speeoradian paper-pusher.”
Scene changes again to a stone building in an obviously run down part of down, with a “closed” sign hanging from the door. The windows have been smashed, and the walls adorned with illegible graffiti. A raggedy man can bee seen slouched against the building a “need work” sign painted on cardboard next to him. “Unemployment soared as high as 92%, with the manufacturing and Farming industries hit the hardest.” Scene changes to a barren crop field, a few weeds poking out of the soil. “Radical climate changes caused a major loss of food production ability, and forced farmers to attempt to find other jobs.” Scene shows a man in overalls and a straw hat attempting to get passing tourists to buy cheap trinkets on the side of a major highway.
“King James, unwilling to part from his father’s economic ideology, rebuffed petitions by the parliament to re-instate privately owned business in the areas of manufacturing and resource gathering.” The scene shows a large amphitheater, almost filled to capacity. King James is seen pointing at the crowd and shouting, “My father, God rest his soul, knew what was best for this nation, that is why we are the monarch family, and you are not, his decision will stand, and those working against it will be branded traitors and put to death!” Uproar in the crowd can be heard as King James makes his exit from the hall.
The scene returns to Mr. Muntz. “The overt threats to the parliament, along with growing poverty, and mounting death toll due to starvation, disease, and violent crime, would not see King James leadership cast in a good light, nor would it help his popularity among the nobles or common peoples. When we return, the sparking of the overthrow of the Monarchy.”
“See, I told you this was interesting!” said Joshua, not turning from the television as the history channel logo appeared.
“Yes dear, it is very interesting. You’re father served in the Corporate Wars, isn’t that right dear?” replied Mrs. Tullover
“Yes, I did, I was an officer in with the Trendisec Corporate Army. I was stationed in the Herliz region, up north.” Said Mr. Tullover
“That’s neat, Dad, can I write a paper for school about that?” asked Joshua
“Of course you can, son.” replied Mr. Tullover.
Mr. Tullover winced at the muffled sound of rock music blaring from Tessa’s room, he stood and walked to her door. “TESSA! TURN THAT RACKET DOWN, YOUR BROTHER IS TRYING TO WATCH TV!” he shouted over the din.
“SUCKS TO BE HIM!” came the reply, and then a barely noticeable decrease in the volume of the music.
Mt. Tullover stalked back to his chair and sat back down, his face bright red. “I swear to you, I’ll see that girl thrown to the street if she doesn’t shape up.” He growled
“Patience’s dear, she’s just young, we were no different.” Soothed Mrs. Tullover
“I never showed my father such disrespect, he would have had me flogged!” shouted Mr. Tullover.
“A different time dear.” rebutted Mrs. Tullover
“A better time, for parenting anyway” said Mr. Tullover under his breath.
“Shh, it’s starting again!” said Joshua, pointing to the TV…

Speeorad City
Dominion of Doomity
“King James made good on his threats.” The voice over stated ominously. “Several months after his address to the parliament, Sir Michel Williams, leader of the Free Economy party, which had been kept under the watchful eye of the Royal Intelligence Service, was caught holding a secret rally to boaster support for an economic movement that would force the king to relinquish power of the manufacturing and resource gathering sectors of the economy, and put Doomity one step closer to recovering from the economic downward spiral.”
Scene changes to a mansion surrounded by police cars and S.W.A.T vans, as well as a helicopter sitting in the front lawn, bearing the symbol of the Royal Intelligence Service. “In a surprise raid on Sir Williams’ home, RIS agents captured him, his family, and secret documents pertaining to the “treason” he had committed. Within 5 days, Sir Williams was found guilty of treason in a rigged trial, and sentenced to death by hanging.” Scene changes to the courtyard outside of the Monarchy building, where a gallows had been erected. Sir Michel Williams is being lead up to it by military police, an angry crowd has turned out to witness the execution.
Scene changes to more shots of economic failure, abandoned factories, empty store shelves, homeless vagrants on the streets. “The execution of Sir Michael Williams, whom some consider to be the 1st martyr of the revolution, did not improve King James popular opinion. Anti-government uprisings occurred in many of the outlying cities, and were violently surprised by military forces, sometimes with use of deadly force.” Scene changes to a helicopter gunship circling a crowd, then to a police riot suppression vehicle turning its high-powered water cannon on a crowd of demonstrating college students. “In a stunning move, the King issued a royal decree that the rights to free press, demonstration and gathering had been suspended for the duration of the emergency, and martial law had been declared in Doomity.” Scenes of military vehicles, and some armored vehicles driving down city streets, check points being established, and positions around government buildings being fortified by government troops. A scene of two soldiers arresting a man, forcing him up against the hood of their vehicle, while another solider mans the .50 machine gun on pintail mount. The scene fades to black.
During this time, outlying portions of the nation fell almost completely out from under Royal control. Entire regions came under the control of wealthy land owners, the parliamentary representative, or local military commanders. In the former two cases, one of the 1st things the new leaders did was authorize the production of materials and collection of resources by private companies, in the span of several days, 8 different corporations emerged.” Shots of lumber crews clear cutting, factory workers producing materials, from can openers to armored vehicles. “In many cases, the local military commanders joined forces with the new enterprises, throwing their lot in with the operations, forming new “cooperate security forces” with their military units”
“Speeorad Palace,” the scene shows the Monarchy building, and wrought iron fence around it. Towers at the 4 corners, normally ceremonial, are staffed by Dommitian military police. There is a crowd gathering outside the main gate, holding signs and protesting. Sandbag positions, and some light machine guns, had been erected near the entrance, and a line of military riot police were stations outside the building. “Only days after the declaration of martial law, angry crowds had turned out to protest the Kings massive abuse of the Doomity constitution. After attempts to turn the crowd away using non-lethal methods had failed, government troops were order to stand their ground and keep any intruders off the palace premises.”
Suddenly, from the midst of the protesters, a Molotov cocktail was thrown, and landed in the police line, igniting several officers, whose ammunition began to cook off. Hearing the shoots, the military police in the towers trained their heavy machine guns on the crowd, but held their fire. The crowd surged forward, thinking it was under fire, and the front ranks began to hurl rocks and other items at the officers. A Dommitian officer, his ornate sword drawn and held over his head leveled it at the crowd and shouted “Fire!” The scene fades to black, the sounds out automatic gunfire heard in the background. When the scene returned, bodies littered the street outside the palace, ambulances and medical workers were seen carry survivors away, and military police picked their way through the crowd. “Over 1000 members of the crowd were injured. Those in the rear of the crowd dispersed and escaped injury, nearly 300 people were killed. Survivor Ricky Harrison” The scene changes to a older man seated in a rocking chair on the porch of a nicer retirement home, drinking lemonade. “We never thought the police would open fire on us in that way. It was horrible, maybe on par with what a war veteran has seen. I saw people being ripped apart by bullets, struck down where they stood, men, women and children alike….it was horrible.” Scene changes to another older man in a military uniform seated in a living room in a recliner. “Major Michael Kurgan, 503rd Ranger Battalion, Dommitian Army. I remember the event as if it were yesterday. I was there, though I was only a sergeant at the time. We fired because our officers told us to, that are how we were trained, you know. Well, afterward, the scene was horrible, just horrible, we couldn’t believe what we had done, something had to change, we thought.”
“Then Sergeant Kurgans was not alone in his sentiment.” said the voiceover. “Many young soldiers and officer in the Dommitian military felt the violent suppression, and suspension of rights was too far, and that something needed to be done.”
“Two weeks later, something was.” said the voiceover.
“The King had surrounded himself with the most loyal troops he could find, and was hold up in the palace.” Shouts of the fortified palace now complete with armored vehicles and entrenched positions. “About 200 troops were hold up in the building. Rebel Dommitian officers collaborated and managed to cease control of their units, and amass them outside of Speeorad. As they moved into the city, they were joined by egger civilians and local police units who were also fed up with the Kings grown Fascist tendencies, and the ineptitude of the government. The units laid siege to the building, placing snipers in nearby skyscrapers, and setting up mortar positions in the nearby King Gregory Park.” Shots of Rebel forces, which can be identified by the flag on their uniforms having been sewn on upside down, digging into position, and placing their mortars in the park. “For three days, artillery units shelled the building, 1st with tear gas rounds, and then switching to high explosive and fragmentation rounds. Snipers picked off any targets which made themselves available. During the shelling, the armored units made at least 3 sally attempts to lift the siege, but to no avail, the units were outnumbered, and the Rebels had helicopter support.” Scenes of armored vehicles fighting in the city, one Infantry Fighting Vehicle is destroyed by a shoulder-fired anti-tank rocket from a 3rd story balcony, another scene shows a helicopter gunship low between the buildings, firing its anti-tank missiles at a Main Battle Tank approaching the Main Line of Resistance for the Rebel forces, the missiles completely decimated the tank. “The Rebels airborne Calvary units were not unopposed.” Another shot of a gunship hit by a Stinger shoulder fired anti-aircraft missile, flat spinning into the city center, spewing firing and smoke as it falls. “In the meantime, Rebel forces worked desperately to locate and evacuated civilians trapped within the battle zone.” Scenes of Rebel medics escorting some shell-shocked civilians away from a destroyed building, as an IFV stands watch over the scene, the vehicle commander standing atop the cupola, scanning the scene.
“A 3D computer-generated image of the palace comes up, showing a cutaway of the building. “The Monarchy building had been designed to withstand a long-term siege. A hardened bunker complex and been eradicated years before, and stocked with food, water, medical supplies and ammunition. The assaulting forces knew this, and knew that something most be done to break the siege. Air strikes were not an option, collateral damage and civilian casualties would be too costly. Also, the countries national library and archives were houses within the building, making its destruction an unappealing option.”
“3 weeks after the siege had begun, a plan was devised. The Rebel armored unit would launch an offensive against the remaining armor of the Government forces, hoping to take and secure the areas around the Monarchy building still under government control. Supported by artillery, these units would press the attack forward, hopefully drawing out enemy reinforcements, should their attack break through, and the machinated infantry would attempt to take the building in a daring frontal assault. Meanwhile, a Dommitian Special Forces team would attempt to assault the complex through the sewer, while Dommitian Airborne Rangers attempted to seize the rooftop of the Monarchy building, and the adjacent parking garage, and press into the building, resulting in a four way attack designed to knock the enemy off balance, and ultimately, allow the Rebels to gain posses of the building, and bring the Rouge King to justice.”
Major Kurgan. “I was on the parking garage assault team, and that was the most difficult battle I believe I was in during the entire War. The defenders were tenacious, and dug in hard, dislodging them was an ugly proposition. The fighting was room to room, man to man, and losses were high on both sides.”
“While loses were high” continued the voiceover, “in the end, the Rebel forces were victories, and, through costly fighting, managed to take the governmental building.” Scene of Dommitian commando taking down the Royal Families crest-bearing flag, and replacing it with the flag of Doomity. “The King had committed suicide when it was clear that the battle was lost.”
Return to Mr. Muntz. “With the King dislodged and the government under the control of the Rebels, Doomity was on its way to being free. The only problem was…who was to take control. Several different factions now vied for control, 8 different corporations, each controlling a substantial chunk of the nation, outlying areas that were suddenly robbed of a government with the Kings overthrow, and were up for grabs, as well as the Rebel Military in control of the nations central city, and the majority of its military power, but very little production ability. When we return, the beginnings of the Corporate Wars.”
“I’m so glad we don’t live under an oppressive ruler anymore” declared Joshua
“You should be glad son….your sister should too.” growled Mr. Tullover.
“Now, dear…” pleaded Mrs. Tullover.
“Now nothing…” grumbled Mr. Tullover.
