1920
As Carranza's presidential term drew to a close, he began grooming Ignacio Bonillas as his successor. This earned him the resentment of fellow revolutionaries Álvaro Obregón, Plutarco Elías Calles, and Adolfo de la Huerta, who rebelled against Carranza's government. On April 8, 1920, a campaign aide to Obregon attempted to assassinate Carranza. After the failed attempt, Carranza was forced to flee Mexico City.

He set out towards Veracruz but was intercepted in Tlaxcalantongo in the Sierra Norte of Puebla state by supporters of his former allies and assassinated by Rodolfo Herrera on May 21, 1920.

Following Carranza's death, Adolfo de la Huerta became interim President. Elections were held in November and on December 1st he stepped down from the Presidency allowing the victor, Alvaro Obregon to take power.

1921
Obregon continued agrarian reforms and anticlerical reforms, aimed at targeting the untapped churches for taxes and breaking up large ranches accumulated under very wealthy men. Among the people he was well liked for his part in the revolution and for the new reforms. Although there was some animosity towards his administration from some staunch Roman Catholics immediately following the reforms, it eventually tailed off. Petroleum sails the US are increased which makes good relations even better with the northern neighbor.

1922-1923
The Mexican economy, apparently ignoring the budding global depression saw the beginning of an upturn. The new oil companies from the US as well as Mexican ones provided many new jobs. The agrarian reforms broke up many large land holdings and created a much more competitive agriculture market. New government programs to increase industrialization and improve infrastructure were begun which also provided steady employment for many Mexicans. Relations with the US continue to improve due to increased oil exports and talks of trade agreements. By the tail end of 1923 the Obregon administration is very well respected and Alvaro announces he will run for another term.

1924
The global downturn begins to show in the Mexican market. Although the peso is still relatively devalued due to the Revolution, the fall of global currencies including the Pound Sterling and US Dollar effect the heavily invested Mexican companies that rely on investment from the US and Britain. When the US Stock Market begins to fall and panic selling begins in the US, stocks in US oil companies functioning in Mexico begin to sell quickly. This causes several banks handling United States Oil Companies' affairs to fail and the already devalued Peso begins to fall. Putting full faith in his executive power, Obregon orders a special five day bank holiday, hoping to stem the rush of withdrawls. His action helps maintain the economy at a manageable level but still worse than it was. The reforms he had continued in 1921 help maintain a relatively low rate of unemployement as far as the rest of the world is concerned.

1925
After being re-elected in November of last year, Obregon began his second term of office on December 1st. The Mexican economy can barely slide any further down and he is hoping to be able to provide social services to all citizens. A drop in prices of oil has caused several companies to close down and serious talks are being undertaken which concern the possible nationalization of the oil industry.

OOC: It is really not your place to decide the US opinion of Mexico. And as of 1925 there has been a world wide decade’s long oil gut.

In 1921, after Brazil agrees to the Natal Economic Agreement, the United States formally proposes the American Trade League. Meant to increase prosperity across the Americas, the American Trade League is offered to all American Nations with the exception of European imperial powers.

American Trade League Charter (simplified, assume the real thing is more complicated)

1. The members of the American Trade League agree to cooperate in order to foster prosperity among said members, by:
i. Lowering tariffs to aid mutually beneficial trade;
ii. Creating and maintaining transportation links, terrestrial and maritime, between the members of the American Trade League;
iii. Upholding the laws of the sea and international law in regards to transportation;
iv. Standardizing banking procedures among members of the American Trade League;
v. When possible, standardizing regulations and laws regarding trade in the ATL countries;
vi. Acting in good faith at all times in financial dealings with other ATL nations.
2. In times of exceptional need, any of the above clauses may be suspended by any nation for a period of up to ten (10) years
3. The American Trade League charter may be amended by a majority vote, unless either the United States, Argentina, or Brazil decides to exercise a veto option, in which case amendments may be carried only by a three-quarters vote. If both Brazil and the United States exercise a veto, the amendment cannot pass.
4. Any nation may be expelled from or admitted to the ATL with a two-thirds vote of all ATL nations

OOC:Erm...all of the things I said about the USA were basically what Snu told me his stance would be.

IC: The United Mexican States have approved the ATL and it has been signed by President Obregon.

President Obregon has announced that beginning in 1926, the United Mexican States will begin exporting growth to neighboring nations. As well, we will begin exporting any points possible once we have completed an airline industry.

The Spanish government is curious if it may begin purchasing Mexican Oil in the future, as it's dependancy on United States Oil may be considered unhealthy at best.

(And since Spain has very little oil to begin with.)

This is good. Spain will build 5 tanker units to bring towards Mexican oil. (In 1927 when I can afford it.)

(OOC: hah...i'm singin' the same tune...)

President Obregon has announced that practically the entire budget will be shifted towards the creation of an airplane industry next year and that the hopes of the government are that this can increase the amount of employed citizens and lessen the impact of the depression.

The budget for 1926 has been approved by the Congress. Mexico nears its dream of having an airplane industry and growth is exported to Guatemala. It is expected that the Department of Defense will see no significant change in it's allotment for another year.
