Kesshite Espionage [Open]

Kesshite

Kesshite is a nation that recently ended its centuries old isolationist policy and began interacting with the modern world. Kesshite is still a land apart, however, as a powerful and mysterious null-tech field surrounds the nation. Much like the Bermuda triangle, peninsula's mist-shrouded hills and rainforests remain impermeable to modern observation: cameras and cell phones go dead, over flying planes lose contact and vanish, and even orbital satellites can produce nothing but grainy, occluded images.

As the nation of Kesshite is small, under-developed, and rarely involved in international affairs, many nations ignore it. Those who do actively gather intelligence, however, utilize special agents skilled in traditional espionage techniques.

I don't know how many, if any, nations are interested in gathering intelligence on my nation. If you just want general information, that's what the Factbook is for. (see sig) If you want more, however, this is the place for you.

Just give me some basic details on your agent(s). Number, gender, specialties, their 'cover, ' where they're operating, what information they're gathering, how their gathering it and, how much time they're going to put into it. (For this thread 1 RL day = 1 NS month)

So, if you just want a guy to come in and work the docks to check on what's being shipped, I'll TG you with the info. If you have an embassy and want an agent to work as a clerk there and tell you if anything the military is doing anything unusual, I'll TG you with the information if anything happens.

Information that is more detailed would require RPing. For instance, tracking down those 100,000 refugees I took in or, I don't know, saying you're going to try to bribe the Minister of Commerce.

Again, this is not an announcement that my military is mobilizing, I'm building WMD, or that I'm committing genocide, but if you feel the desire to do some covert activates on my shore, this is thread for you.

OOC: No actual espionage, but I had been meaning to dispatch a deputation to investigate your nation and its unusal properties...

OOC:
That would work here as well. Just give me a bit of information on who you're sending and what they're looking for.

If your government send a letter to Minister Havez; he'll invite you to come to Atzco o Inqaic and provide you with an escort. Otherwise, a pilot from one of the surrounding countries (no countries on the board have taken that position. Need a neighbor?) can bring you to an area off the coast where a ferry would pick you up, or you could try to get passage on a ship.

OOC: Ack. Forgot this. Knocked up something quickly... IC:

The ship was one of billions operated by Greater Menelmacar, but it was quite unusual in that it didn’t simply consist of the blisteringly sophisticated technology that made up the majority of them, but also devoted much of its space to ‘magical’ means of propulsion. It belonged to the Menelmacari prefecture of science (a term that covered magic, there) and orbited high above the nation of Kesshite, a sub-continental nation permeated by what was termed an anti-technology field.

There was some knowledge of how such a thing could be achieved, but nevertheless, it was interesting. They’d made a point of asking in advance for permission to make their study, and seeded the seas around Kessite with drones of various types, remote constructs some of which were more akin to golems than they were to robots, and massive sensor arrays aboard the vessel (MGV Nan Curunír) worked to analyse the exact extent of the field with everything from thoroughly ordinary radiation analysis (including the visual spectrum) through to exotic arcane scrying that looked entirely bemusing to anyone beyond a small subset of mages.

Similarly, there were also operatives on the ground, making studies of culture and local science (see above) as well as of the strange properties of the place. Probably dozens, possibly with an actual embassy or consulate established. Almost certainly paying the Kessite government something for the trouble.

Alright, Mica Ohyes had come in as a refugee with her companion Marcus Ohyes. Their job was to collect information on the economy, trade, and science of this new country. They had simply landed on the docks in wood hulled boat. Before they had taken the time to learn the language of the country and some basic customs. They would pose as travellers. They each carried a belt with gold in it, as well as a variety of small gems in the padding of their shoes. Enough to pay bribes so they could wander almost anywhere. They had a fairly decent amount of coinage. Their first job would be to get some travel passes so they could wander through the country.

Mica and Marcus went to a shop crowded with bric a brac, carpets, lamps, vases, old books, antiques, and oddities this was where they would send any notes, purchases, or unusual finds. A man in his fifites named Nimble with a slight paunch ran the store, the store had a fairly large basement with a hidden storage room. They made some mumbled conversation handed the man some coins then left.

OOC: Can we assume my nation made diplomatic overtures and sent an ambassador to meet with someone about opening trade or something? If not, I can edit.

IC:
Ambassador T. Corbett Chaunier was to be dispatched to Kesshite to oversee diplomatic interests that The Community may have in Kesshite. He was not an intelligence officer himself, but in fact a bona fide diplomat. However, in his entourage was a man who used the name Semyon Burke. His real name was classified, but this would be his first time as an operative in the field. Semyon had worked in the customs department, but was invited to the Siapian Intelligence Network after his work investigating a radium mine revealed an illegal nuclear weapons facility. He was beginning from the bottom as an operative. Anyone who had ever watched spy movies probably knew the difference between OC and NOC operatives. Semyon was an OC, holding the official black passport saying that he was part of a diplomatic envoy. If he was caught doing anything, any country that didn't want an international incident would send him back immediately, maybe at worse barring his return. Conversely, he couldn't investigate anything too deeply, because, as a diplomat, his actions represented the will of The Community to the world. So, he was just sent to passively observe the economy and what he could about the military. if this operation was succesful, and Semyon provided useful information, and proved to be useful in the field, he would return under a different name and without a black passport.

Upon arriving at the airport, the first thing Semyon did was seek out a newspaper. It was, assuming the press was free, the best source of general intelligence on a nation while being completely legal.

OOC: i would like to send someone to not really spy, just investigate this unusual and non-technological "new" country.
