NOTE 1: Only one quarter to one half of the Numinox armed forces are on active duty during peacetime, the exact number depending on the international political climate and the stability of the Numinox borders. During this time, the inactive troops serve roles in society doing construction, farmwork, police work, or rangering in the Numinox wilderness, performing tasks which keep them fit for duty while contributing to society. Every three years the "active" and "reserve" forces rotate to ensure that the armed forces are still prepared for active duty.
NOTE 2: The mainstay of military defense duty and routeen tasks are given over to the soldiers serving their mandatory year of military service before they are recognized as full citizens. While these soldiers are trained for combat they only see front line duty in extreem circumstances.
NOTE 3: The Mandragora rifle is the standard armament used by the Citizens' Defense Forces, a national guard militia which all able-bodied adult citizens belong to and where they are trained in defensive tactics and gurilla warfare specific to the Numinox landscape. The militia is never sent outside the country, or used for purposes other than national defense.
