Overview:
The Reformed Democratic States of Naasha occupies the northern half of Greece in Nova Europa, an area of approximately 150,000 square kilometres. Founded in 1547, as 'The Glorious Naashan Empire', Naasha played an important role in early politics within the region. The Empire gradually degraded, and the Spring Revolt in 1786 which saw the formation of the splinter nation of Surdun, almost caused the collapse of the government. In response, the ruling monarch, known only as Delfin IV declared himself the 'Jade Emperor' and began a series of brutal clampdowns across the country.
The Naashan Empire continued in this fashion of brutal rule right into the twentieth century, and many attempts were made to bring Surdun back into the fold. The most famous of these was the 'Five Hour War' where Surdunni forces, tipped off to a Naashan surprise attack, ambushed and obliterated a column of Imperial Cavalry and caused the almost immediate withdrawal of the Empire's troops.
More recently, the 'United Nations of Naasha and Surdun' or UNNS, a paramillitary organisation dedicated to the overthrow of both the Naashan and Surdunni governments, managed to secure foreign aid for their cause when Naasha launched a more sucessful invasion of the south. The countries of Cravan and Clandonia Prime both backed the UNNS, and drove the Imperial aggressors back into the north, but Clandonia Prime then launched their own invasion of Naasha.
In a guerilla campaign, the UNNS managed to drive off the Clandonians and begin the liberation of Naasha. In this endeavour they were assisted militarily by Dentara and Ezaltia, Ackistan also offered diplomatic and financial aid, although declined to send it's own forces to aid those of the coalition. With the defeat of the Imperial regime in December 2006, the UNNS took control of the country, and succeeded in negotiating a peaceful end to the corrupt dictatorship that had sprung up in Surdun, leaving that country semi-autonomous from Naasha.
The UNNS stepped down from power two years later, to be replaced by an elected Democratic government.

Government:
Naasha's government is led by a Prime Minister, elected every five years by a general national election. The Prime Minister's party then leads the National Assembly, with a chairman from his party being elected. Seats on the assembly are won on local elections every three years, this makes it possible for the makeup of the National Assembly to change dramatically through the Prime Minister's term.
This system of government is different from many in that people effectively vote for the Prime Minister and his cabinet in National elections and for local governments and junior National Assembly seats in local elections. This means that the Prime Minister does not need his party to have a majority within the Assembly to win an election, and it allows citizens to choose the best candidate for their local government, rather than having to choose the party with the better overall leader.
Senior advisory positions are appointed by the Prime Minister, including the Deputy Prime Minister, who appoints junior positions and is charged with regulating the party. Naasha's governments tend to enjoy a great deal of public support, regardless of how close the election results are, opposition parties are given a degree of respect but the majority of the populace will accept the ruling party fully.
There is a total of 200 seats on the National Assembly, along with up to five Surdunni representatives that may choose to attend at their discretion. The current makeup of the National Assembly is: 120 Conservative, 40 Naashan Democratic, 20 Naashan Socialist, 15 Nationalist, 5 Green,

Economy Overview:
Naasha has a strong economy, mainly thanks to it's citizen's strong work ethic. Labour intensive industries such as farming and manufacture dominate the economy, and minimum wage is significantly higher than the average in many nations, although this has little effect on workers as inflation has risen with the pay rates.
Competing mid-sized corporations of all types dominate the market, making it difficult to buy the same branded products in two different Naashan towns, but the crowded market only serves to stimulate more development. The Naashan economy is currently coming out of a small recession and is on the up, luxury food and electronic products are being imported while the main exports are wheat, cars and steel products.
Employment breakdown: 30% Primary, 40% Secondary, 30% Tertiary.
Education:
Naasha's older generations received no government funded education, although private education was reasonably inexpensive. Progressive government policies in education and social welfare are making education facilities such as schools and libraries available across the nation, although higher education is still restricted to the cities. Average adult literacy rates are still poor on average due to older generations receiving little education but the average literacy rate for under 40's is estimated at 89%.

Technology:
Imports of electronics and high technology goods are on the rise in the nation, 70% of households own a TV set and 90% possess a radio. Domestic manufacturing is centered on production of cars and steel products, so it is common for a family to own at least one automobile.
Geography:
Naasha's northern highland extremities are subject to the cool eastern european climate during the winter season, while the rest of the nation lies fairly low and enjoys a mild climate all year round. Steep mountain ranges make access to the north of the country difficult, although not impossible. A smaller mountain range marks the Naasha - Surdun border, although this features many passes of all sizes.
Transportation:
Main cities and towns are linked by extensive highways, but smaller towns and villages often have very poor quality transport links thanks to poor maintenance on rural road networks. The country's rail network is not extensive, although a better private service exists between the western cities of Vogrost, Forstvir and Morgur. The main international airports are located at Sandya, Vogrost, Samka and Fyrr (Surdun).

The Naashan Military has just undergone a complete modernisation and recruitment drive to bring it up to modern standards. It has yet to see action in any conflict. The Naashan Navy exercises technical control over the fleet air arm of each of it's carrier groups, however, in any joint operations alongside standard Airforce units, the Navy aircraft would be placed under Airforce control.
Intelligence:
Naashan Intelligence branches are controlled entirely by the Ministry of Defence and are more simplistic than many operated by other nations. The section is split into two main divisions, International Intelligence, responsible for international espionage and intelligence gathering and Domestic Security, responsible for security concerns within Naasha.

Diplomacy:
Naasha's government is looking to open ties with the international community, and invites all nations to exchange embassies with them. Any other proposals can also be placed here to be reviewed by the Naashan Government.
Embassies:
Naasha is currently granting embassies on request, all applications will be reviewed and we will endeavour to grant as many as possible. Embassy premises will be provided, we are currently converting spacious townhouses just outside of Sandya's city centre for this purpose.
Each property contains five bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, two large bathrooms, four spacious reception areas, a kitchen and breakfast area and a moderately sized study. An underground flat with seperate access provides accomodations for up to ten embassy staff, and more lodgings can be provided on request. Garage space for two private vehicles and a diplomatic vehicle is provided, and although no helicopter landing space is available, there is a heliport only 10km distant and an international airport slightly south of the city.
Exterior security will be handled by local security forces, and each property features eight foot bar fences and exterior security lighting, additional armed guards may be provided by the guest nation, but armament will be restricted to Assault Weapons and Sidearms only.

Overview:
The Reformed Democratic States of Naasha occupies the northern half of Greece in Nova Europa, an area of approximately 150,000 square kilometres. Founded in 1547, as 'The Glorious Naashan Empire', Naasha played an important role in early politics within the region. The Empire gradually degraded, and the Spring Revolt in 1786 which saw the formation of the splinter nation of Surdun, almost caused the collapse of the government. In response, the ruling monarch, known only as Delfin IV declared himself the 'Jade Emperor' and began a series of brutal clampdowns across the country.
The Naashan Empire continued in this fashion of brutal rule right into the twentieth century, and many attempts were made to bring Surdun back into the fold. The most famous of these was the 'Five Hour War' where Surdunni forces, tipped off to a Naashan surprise attack, ambushed and obliterated a column of Imperial Cavalry and caused the almost immediate withdrawal of the Empire's troops.
More recently, the 'United Nations of Naasha and Surdun' or UNNS, a paramillitary organisation dedicated to the overthrow of both the Naashan and Surdunni governments, managed to secure foreign aid for their cause when Naasha launched a more sucessful invasion of the south. The countries of Cravan and Clandonia Prime both backed the UNNS, and drove the Imperial aggressors back into the north, but Clandonia Prime then launched their own invasion of Naasha.
In a guerilla campaign, the UNNS managed to drive off the Clandonians and begin the liberation of Naasha. In this endeavour they were assisted militarily by Dentara and Ezaltia, Ackistan also offered diplomatic and financial aid, although declined to send it's own forces to aid those of the coalition. With the defeat of the Imperial regime in December 2006, the UNNS took control of the country, and succeeded in negotiating a peaceful end to the corrupt dictatorship that had sprung up in Surdun, leaving that country semi-autonomous from Naasha.
The UNNS stepped down from power two years later, to be replaced by an elected Democratic government.

Government:
Naasha's government is led by a Prime Minister, elected every five years by a general national election. The Prime Minister's party then leads the National Assembly, with a chairman from his party being elected. Seats on the assembly are won on local elections every three years, this makes it possible for the makeup of the National Assembly to change dramatically through the Prime Minister's term.
This system of government is different from many in that people effectively vote for the Prime Minister and his cabinet in National elections and for local governments and junior National Assembly seats in local elections. This means that the Prime Minister does not need his party to have a majority within the Assembly to win an election, and it allows citizens to choose the best candidate for their local government, rather than having to choose the party with the better overall leader.
Senior advisory positions are appointed by the Prime Minister, including the Deputy Prime Minister, who appoints junior positions and is charged with regulating the party. Naasha's governments tend to enjoy a great deal of public support, regardless of how close the election results are, opposition parties are given a degree of respect but the majority of the populace will accept the ruling party fully.

Economy Overview:
Naasha has a strong economy, mainly thanks to it's citizen's strong work ethic. Labour intensive industries such as farming and manufacture dominate the economy, and minimum wage is significantly higher than the average in many nations, although this has little effect on workers as inflation has risen with the pay rates.
Competing mid-sized corporations of all types dominate the market, making it difficult to buy the same branded products in two different Naashan towns, but the crowded market only serves to stimulate more development. The Naashan economy is currently coming out of a small recession and is on the up, luxury food and electronic products are being imported while the main exports are wheat, cars and steel products.

Education:
Naasha's older generations received no government funded education, although private education was reasonably inexpensive. Progressive government policies in education and social welfare are making education facilities such as schools and libraries available across the nation, although higher education is still restricted to the cities. Average adult literacy rates are still poor on average due to older generations receiving little education but the average literacy rate for under 40's is estimated at 89%.

Technology:
Imports of electronics and high technology goods are on the rise in the nation, 70% of households own a TV set and 90% possess a radio. Domestic manufacturing is centered on production of cars and steel products, so it is common for a family to own at least one automobile.
Geography:
Naasha's northern highland extremities are subject to the cool eastern european climate during the winter season, while the rest of the nation lies fairly low and enjoys a mild climate all year round. Steep mountain ranges make access to the north of the country difficult, although not impossible. A smaller mountain range marks the Naasha - Surdun border, although this features many passes of all sizes.
Transportation:
Main cities and towns are linked by extensive highways, but smaller towns and villages often have very poor quality transport links thanks to poor maintenance on rural road networks. The country's rail network is not extensive, although a better private service exists between the western cities of Vogrost, Forstvir and Morgur. The main international airports are located at Sandya, Vogrost, Samka and Fyrr (Surdun).

The Naashan Military has just undergone a complete modernisation and recruitment drive to bring it up to modern standards. It has yet to see action in any conflict. The Naashan Navy exercises technical control over the fleet air arm of each of it's carrier groups, however, in any joint operations alongside standard Airforce units, the Navy aircraft would be placed under Airforce control.
Intelligence:
Naashan Intelligence branches are controlled entirely by the Ministry of Defence and are more simplistic than many operated by other nations. The section is split into two main divisions, International Intelligence, responsible for international espionage and intelligence gathering and Domestic Security, responsible for security concerns within Naasha.

Diplomacy:
Naasha's government is looking to open ties with the international community, and invites all nations to exchange embassies with them. Any other proposals can also be placed here to be reviewed by the Naashan Government.
Embassies:
Naasha is currently granting embassies on request, all applications will be reviewed and we will endeavour to grant as many as possible. Embassy premises will be provided, we are currently converting spacious townhouses just outside of Sandya's city centre for this purpose.
Each property contains five bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, two large bathrooms, four spacious reception areas, a kitchen and breakfast area and a moderately sized study. An underground flat with seperate access provides accomodations for up to ten embassy staff, and more lodgings can be provided on request. Garage space for two private vehicles and a diplomatic vehicle is provided, and although no helicopter landing space is available, there is a heliport only 10km distant and an international airport slightly south of the city.
Exterior security will be handled by local security forces, and each property features eight foot bar fences and exterior security lighting, additional armed guards may be provided by the guest nation, but armament will be restricted to Assault Weapons and Sidearms only.
