PINA unveils new logo
Millions of spectators around the world were greeted by the sight of the 24 hour news channel's new logo as they switched on their television today, or logged onto pina.ari to watch the channel's live online news stream.
"It's more lively, more aesthetic," PINA spokesman André Boisfeuillu explained. "Just because we're a serious news channel doesn't mean these things aren't important too."

PINA's new logo
But what does it mean?
"Essentially whatever you want it to mean," Mr. Boisfeuillu said, perhaps somewhat evasively. "To me, it means we take you all around the world, and report on places you may never even have heard of."
The inclusion of the channel's url in the logo was, of course, a deliberate choice.
"There are countries where PINA isn't available yet on television, but anyone with a good Internet connection can watch it online," he explained. "In fact, a lot of people do. And on the website, you can choose to view the reports you're most interested in."

Reporter Calls for Prosecution Against National Hero
Former overseas correspondant, Adrianna Kingston, has called for The Council to lodge charges against former Commander Paul Kesson, alleging that the official records of civilian casualties in The Pacification, The Community's response to the terrorist attacks several years ago, are completely bunk.
"The records show that 1.5 million had been killed in the fighting. Under Kesson's reign of terror, the execution of over 10 million unarmed men, women and children were carried out under the order of Kesson. His displacement programs also saw the death of an estimated 30 million...He is a severe violator of major international treaties that even The Community recognizes." A release from the manuscript from her new book alleges.
Paul Kesson had no comment on the charges, remarking that he "didn't have the time nor the patience to attend to every half-brained conspiracy theorist that has nothing better to do with their lives."
Her book is expected to reach bookstores everywhere by the end of this year.

The following is taken from Skgorria Today, Skgorria's leading newspaper
Dinosaurs Safe At Last!
Today, citizens breathed a sigh of relief as yet another archaic piece of legislation was overturned by our glorious leader, leaving Skgorria's national annimals safe at last.
The new Fuhrerdirektiv bans all hunting of dinosaurs for sport and recreation, places a limit of numbers and specific species of dinosaur that can be domesticated and consumed, and even establishes care homes for dinosaurs previously employed in the service sector doing such jobs as mounts for the mounted police. This new Fuhrerdirektiv will halt the sharply declining numbers of dinosaurs throughout Skgorria.
In an address to Parliament, He stated "The dinosaurs of Skgorria are a proud and vital part of our heritage. We domesticated then in our earliest times, rode them into battle until the First World War, and they make a valuable contribution to our economy. I will not have a remnant of this nation's chaotic past stop the future citizens of Skgorria from enjoying these mighty and wonderous beasts. The dinosaur is a symbol of pride for Skgorria, and always will be!"
Of course, this news was met with wild applause and support, and a rally in Skgorria City will be taking place tomorrow following a parade of 6,000 of our brave soldiers and policemen. Leading the parade will be the Ninth Cavalry, mounted on their dinosaurs that they use for ceremonial duties.
No reaction has been heard from the internation community on this ground-breaking news.

Riots put down in Celavan
A series of clashes occurred yesterday in Celavan after the final game of the Akamian team in the Indigenous World Cup.
Witnesses said the riots began after a small group of Akamian fans began attacking and destroying symbols of His Majesty's government, such as the national flag, after the game ended. This led to confrontations between the fans and nationalists, which became a series of battles around the city.
The riots were quickly put down by the Royal Police detachments assigned to the city. "While we recognize the right to protest, it needs to be understood that we will tolerate absolutely no civil disorder or violence," Royal Police Capt. Jeril Menilas said today. "Anyone engaging in violations of the Civil Order Act will be immediately arrested and charged with a Royal-level offense under the COA."
In a related story, King Aelkyn finally addressed the matter. The violence was sparked by the Akamian team using separatist songs and symbols at the IWC. His Majesty described that as a "non-issue" with the government, adding, "What occurs at an independent sporting event outside our borders has no connection whatsoever with our relations with other nations, or with how we address the issue of national unity." The King also firmly stated that the government will not hinder peaceful protests, but will not hesitate to apply "the full force and letter of the law" in squelching any further violent clashes. "People who fight their fellow citizens are not acting in the Altanari Way, and would be well-advised to remember themselves and the ideal of unity expressed in the Way," the King said.

Clandonian Forces seize Military Airbase - Map reading blunder or Imperialistic landgrab?
Earlier today, around 1,000 Clandonian Special Forces personnel seized control of the regional military airbase north of Samka. Is this yet another landgrab from the greedy Clandonian regime, or a simple map-error?
Given the average intelligence of a Clandonian serviceman, we believe it may be the second. The Sovereign League - E.V.I.L bloc war occuring many hundreds of kilometres to our north may have garnered much international interest, but surely not even Clandonia Prime would believe that it could be used as a chance to invade Naasha.
The sheer stupidity of the 'attack' which captured around a square kilometre of Naashan territory, has led this reporter at least to wonder if it isn't just a case of poor map-reading. Given, the Clandonian aircraft would have to miss Kroandan soil by at least eight hundred kilometres to land their cargo here, but given the state of Clandonian society, is such a geographical blunder out of the question?
Anyway, I'm sure the matter will be resolved after a few angry phonecalls, and hopefully the poor navigator will be the next to jump out over Naashan soil - without a parachute.
KANAMI-Prime Minister Elenore Romney has been confirmed alive after the missile attack by Stevid. She plans to address the nation and the world on the Situation later.

PINA seeks further expansion
Ariddia's 24-hour news channel PINA (Public International News Ariddia) already broadcasts in a great number of foreign nations (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Public_International_News_Ariddia#Broadcasting), but the Ariddian authorities are hoping to bring PINA to many new countries.
"This is an international channel, designed for foreign viewers as well as local ones," Secretary for External Affairs Ulo Ho explains. "We believe PINA can bring something new, interesting and instructive to people around the world."
One of PINA's stated aims (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Public_International_News_Ariddia#Aims) is to bring a fresh perspective to international news - in other words, to be thought-provoking, and provide their viewers with something they might not get on other news channels.
PINA alternates news reports and in-depth coverage of a wide variety of topics.

Population Boom a Strain on Leninia-Trotskya's Borders, say Politicians
-Soviet City, 14:38 local time.
By Polidor Azarius, political correspondant.
Debate rocked the Congress of Soviets today over the possible expansion of the nation of Leninia-Trotskya's borders to neighboring islands in the archipelago. "One thing is clear-if the rate of population growth we are currently experiencing keeps up, we will not be able to provide housing, let alone jobs, for the people" said Jarlin McEspar, representative of the Freeport City Council. The population of Leninia-Trotskya is now approximately 20 million, which is proving quite a strain for an island nation of around 100,000 square kilometers. The Communist Party's Marc Terro remarked, "We can no longer ignore this problem, we must be focused. Our unemployment rate is soaring to 14%, which is unnacceptable. We must put aside our petty squabbles over outlawing the eating of meat and allowing nudists to run through the streets."
This is a sentiment shared by many representatives, although the manner in which these new islands will be acquired must be carefully thought out. "Our military is sitting idle," says Conservative Party member and representative of the Military Soviet Vladimir Cuthberts "We would do well to demonstrate to these independant islands that they would be much safer under our protection." Leading the opposition to this view is Manfred Serrico of the Social Democratic Party. "Military occupation is to be a last resort," he says. "We are a nation of the workers- we must convince the workers of these independant islands that their borders are meaningless and that they should join their proletarian brothers and sisters here in Leninia-Trotskya."
The proposal finally passed did not call for military action, but allocated a large amount of resources to turning the workers of neighborng islands to the Leninian-Trotskyan point of view. This morning, the People's Naval Air Corps staged a pamphlet drop over the nearby island of New Rotterdam. Whether or not these airships will continue to carry leaflets, or will switch to bombs is the question now.

Fiefdom Television goes Global!
The Ministry of Culture announced today that a new television station would be unveiled that would "better emphasis the culture, identity and historical background of the Fiefdom". The spokesperson emphasised that this was not competition for P.I.N.A., which recently started broadcasting in the Fiefdom, but rather;
"A different television station for different aims. The Public International News Ariddia is a news network, dedicated to bringing the international scope to the domestic audience. Fiefdom International serves to present our nation's domestic audience to the international community."
When asked whether there would be much demand for a television service which, thanks to current telecommunications technology, would be in 'black-and-white', Ministers argued that "content, not mode of delivery, would determine viewing figures."
Nicksyllvania bans Santé!
Santé! (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=513004) spokesman Bernard Larousse said there was "no comment to be made" after Nicksyllvania announced it was banning the Ariddian restaurant chain (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12213132&postcount=100) from its territory.
The Nicksyllvanian authorities cited, amongst other reasons, fears that Santé!'s foreign-sounding name would undermine the "perfection" of Nicksyllvanian culture, and that Santé! embodied the "dangerous" message that violence may be ethically questionable.
Meanwhile, Santé! is continuing to prove popular in countries such as Ri-an, Swilatia and the United Kingdom.
Ariddia expresses interest in Fiefdom Television
The Ariddian Secretariat for Culture has applauded the creation of an international channel in Uncle Noel dedicated to broadcasting that country's culture and history.
"Knowledge of foreign societies is always positive and intellectually enriching," a Ministry spokesman said.
It is believed the Ariddian authorities may be considering requesting Fiefdom Television broadcasts in the PDSRA.

THE AERIE, AEL KHALAS - In a move that surprised people nationwide, King Aelkyn announced today that Altanar will be changing its official name.
Since unification in 1871, the nation has been known by the name it was given by King Olen - the Kingdom of Altanar. Olen's descendent, Aelkyn, has chosen to break with 136 years of tradition. By Royal Decree, the nation will be known from now on as the Unified Kingdom of Altanar.
"This name change signifies the final and unbreakable union of the Altanari people," the King declared today at a press conference at the Aerie. "Altanar will no longer cling to the artifices of the past. Today, we throw aside the fault lines that once divided our people for all time. This is just the first in a series of great reforms that will underline that once and for all."
When asked if this change was a repudiation of the structures established by his ancestor, King Aelkyn responded that the changes "are an evolution of those structures, not a repudiation".
"My ancestors, every King and Queen of the Aranathan line, have always dreamed of an Altanar that was united as one, and have all worked tirelessly to achieve that goal. Today, those dreams are beginning to reach their final conclusion."
Reaction to the name change was swift. The Royal Senate quickly issued a statement of disapproval and vowed to reverse the King's decree. "This change ignores the delicate structure of balance between the nobility and the King," Lord Jovan Pyrellis of Celavan declared. "We will not stand for King Aelkyn ushering in the beginnings of a centralized tyranny."
In response, the two major parties in the Royal Legislature, the AUP and the MDP, issued a rare joint statement applauding the King's decision and warning the nobles not to challenge it. "It is, frankly, about time that Altanar truly moved to be one centralized, and united, nation. The irritation expressed by our colleagues in the Senate seems to stem more from the nobles trying to protect their own selfish interests, rather than the interests of the great nation of Altanar," the statement said.
Many seasoned observers worry that the King's moves to centralize control may create dissension or instability. "The only reason the rulers of the various petty kingdoms that formed Altanar agreed to form one nation in the first place is because the Aranathan Kings agreed to let them keep their domains and power," Morleu Geriana, a professor of history at the Royal University of Ael Khalas, said. "Challenging that could well provoke them to oppose the King, through fair means or foul."

Taracco Returns From UN, Says His Findings Are "Deeply Disturbing"
SOVIET CITY- Captain-General Taracco, head of the Red Cavalry, a unit of the armed forces that is steeped in history and charged with protecting the Congress of Soviets, has returned from his investigation of proceedings at the United Nations Headquarters today. Apparently, he was not impressed by what he found.
"Our ambassador was not in his office when I arrived, and I had to talk to him in the so-called Stranger's Bar, a vile den of unstatesmanlike behaviour," he said in a recent press conference. "I almost had to fend off the advances of scantily-clad delegates wielding broken crystal whisky glasses!" the Captain bellowed, drawing his saber for effect. "However, now that we have a permanent mission of four delegates to the UN, we can expect no more of this deeply disturbing behaviour."
Marco Ignatius, Leninia-Trotksya's UN Ambassador, was unavailable for comment. When asked his opinion of our ambassador, Captain-General Taracco answered, "I do not believe that these findings reflect negatively on Colonel Ignatius in any way. I am merely concerned about the image of our nation that is being projected by his association with this sort of iniqity. I don't have time for further questions, I'm sorry." Taracco will be presenting his findings to the Politburo later today. Whether these findings will lead to a change in direction concerning Leninia-Trotskya's UN policy remains to be seen.

People's Army on the March!
NEW ROTTERDAM- The Leninian-Trotskyan Politburo today released this statement regarding the recent military action leveled against the Sovreign Kingdom of New Rotterdam and Tenebria:
"The liberation of the neighboring islands of New rotterdam and Tenebria from their corrupt and fascist king was a necessary and demoratic end to a long-standing problem. we submitted the proposal to use military force to the Congress of soviets, and it passed almost unanimously. We ask the international community now to look not at the means, but the ends of what we have achieved here. the persecution of minorities has been halted on these islands, unemployment has now dropped to two percent, and is still falling, and citizens are now free to travel between Leninia-Trotskya and their home islands. We are concerned with upholding the principles of socialism and equality for all, and if that necessitates the controlled use of force, then so be it."
The speaker went on to ensure other nations that this was not a shift in Leninia-Trotksya's foreign policy, and that the Islands of New Rotterdam and Tenebria are currently undergoing a referendum on whether to join the PRL-T or remain a sovreign nation.
