OOC: This will be somewhat based on the Star Trek: TOS episode of the same name. I want a good RPer to volunteer to RP Khan and his 90 followers. I will give you freedom to do a lot of stuff. Just a few rules, the Enterprise can't be destroyed (you can steal another ship though should one try to assist her). I also can't allow major TOS canon characters to be killed. You can kill as many redshirts or other personnel as you want though.

This story fits under this thread (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=498305)

The last RP involving the Enterprise occured in this post (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12165990&postcount=28)in the Cardassian war thread.

IC: The Enterprise was ready to depart Primus Station for the second time of her 5 year mission. The vessel was towed to the station about 2 months prior after she had been heavily damaged in a battle against Cardassian forces. The vessel had some temporary repairs performed at DS9, but she needed the drydock facilities at Primus Station to replace her port nacelle and some of the hull plates and interior systems destroyed in her last battle.

Since the 2 months at Primus Station were the first time the vessel had spent a considerable time at an IDF base in 15 months, some other work had been performed. The vessel was repainted, erasing the scars of her battle with the Klingons 8 months beforehand. The vessel looked just as she had after her major refit prior to the journey. The Enterprise was once again a proud ship as she left the spacedock.

3 Weeks Later

The Enterprise was now doing what she did best, performing Deep Space Exploration missions. The cruiser had played her part during the still ongoing war with the Cardassians. Starfleet decided she should continue with her 5 year mission uninterupted.

Captain Kirk liked performing these missions. While he was a great tactician, DSE was the mission he was truly best at. He was reviewing his log with Yeoman Janice Rand when the klaxon sounded.

"Sir, we have an unidentified vessel bearing 345 mark 5," reported Sulu.

"Go to yellow alert," ordered Kirk. "Plot an intercept course Mr. Sulu." Kirk then tabbed his comm unit on his chair. "Mr. Spock to the bridge."

Spock came up through the turbolift 2 minutes later and went immediately to his science station. He raised the grey periscope with its blue lit screen. "I can't be sure of these readings yet, but that vessel seems to be of earth origin," reported the Vulcan.

"Mr. Sulu, can you magnify?" asked Kirk.

Sulu worked the controls for the viewer and the vessel came into view.

"Do you have any idea what that is?" asked Kirk.

"I can't be 100% sure Captain," began Spock. "It would appear to be an ancient Earth vessel. Older than the DY-500 class. It may be DY-100 class."

"How did it get all the way out here?" asked Kirk.

"We have no way of knowing as of right now," responded Spock. "The DY-100 class vessels haven't been used in over 2 and a half centuries. The odds of a vessel surviving this long are slim."

"Mr. Sulu, bring us alongside of the vessel," ordered Kirk. "Spock, try to scan then."

"Captain, the scanners are picking up what may be heartbeats," responded Spock. While this was shocking news, Spock's face didn't show any shock.

Kirk got up from his chair. "Spock, you have the bridge. Mr. Checkov come with me. Have Dr. McCoy and a few guards meet me Transporter Room 1."

---------------------------------------------------------------

The 5 man team materialized on a steel grated deck aboard the late 20th century vessel. The vessel was empty of beings walking around. They explored the vessel and found 90 men asleep on bunks enclosed in glass.

"Why are they in suspended wanimation?" asked Checkov.

"During the ancient days of space travel, it took decades to get to the nearest star system," responded Kirk. "Even like this, the odds against them making it there were a thousand to one at best. I can't imagine how they've remained like this for so long. No human has lasted in suspended animation for over a hundred and they have been here for over 250." Kirk turned to McCoy. "Doctor?"

"They are still alive," responded McCoy. "My tricorder detects a heart beat of 4 beats per minutes. No visible signs of respiration though."

"Look at this one," noted an ensign in a red shirt. The Ensign had noticed signs of breathing.

"My G-d!" yelled McCoy. "His heart rate is climbing to 10 beat, no 15, 20 per minute." The man's chest showed signs of respiration.

"Has anyone successfully come out of suspended animation?" asked Kirk.

"None that I know of," responded McCoy. "We have to get him out of there or he'll suffocate."

McCoy and Checkov tried to open the glass door. Kirk decided to just shatter it and was then able to open it from the inside. The bed then slid out with the man on it. The man looked physically imposing. Checkov noted that the man was likely a Sikh from Northern India based on his complection.

Kirk leaned down towards the man as he was waking. The man uttered something under his breath, but it was inaudible. He flipped out his communicator and it chirped as it opened. He relayed his findings to Spock. he then had Bones and the patient beam to sickbay.

Kirk, Checkov, and the 2 redshirts continued exploring the vessel and saw no one else coming out of their current state. It was theorized that the man who had awoken was the leader and the system intended for him to awake should anyone enter the vessel.

Kirk reviewed the computer logs and saw the vessel was named SS Botany Bay. He noted it was the name of a penal colony on earth. There was little information on the logs though. There was no manifest, departure date, or anything to hint to why she was out here. Kirk decided to keep the vessel in tow and return to the Enterprise.

Kirk and his senior staff were assembled in the conference room. He had summoned the ship's historian, LT Marla McGivers.

"Dr. McCoy, how is the patient doing?" asked Kirk to begin the meeting.

"He is doing remarkably well," responded Bones. "I don't think I've ever seen a human in as good a shape as he is. He is still unconcious and is in the care of Nurse Chapel."

"Do you have any idea what time period he is from?" asked McGivers.

"I'd estimate late 20th century to early 21st," responded the Southern Doctor.

"Do you have any explanation for how he is in such great physical shape?" asked Kirk.

McCoy had no answer. McGivers decided it was her time to speak up. "I do have a theory," she began. "It has been noted that there is no historical record of that vessel."

"Records of the Period are fragmented however. The Mid 1990's was the era of your last so-called world wars," stated Spock.

"The Eugencis Wars," stated McCoy.

"Yes, in the decades leading up to the 1990s, many earth scientists experimented with eugenics," stated McGivers. "Simultaneously, 40 earth nations had these genetic supermen rise up and take power."

"If I recall correctly, one of the scientists who created these men stated 'superior ability breeds superior ambition,'" stated Spock.

"And that is exactly what occured," stated McGivers. "The supermen each wanted to control the world and waged war on each other. The nations not ruled by these creations of eugenics banded together and after 4 years of fighting defeated the supermen."

"But don't the records show all of them were killed?" asked McCoy. He knew that the theory that was going to be tossed around was that these men were products of 20th century eugenics.

"Officially yes," stated McGivers. "But, that was a lie. At the time the war ended, 90 of these supermen were never accounted for."

"My G-d!" stated McCoy. "Why the lie?"

Kirk responded rhetorically. "Bones, after 4 years of war, can you imagine how people would've reacted to hearing 90 Napoleons were still out there?"

"Are you saying that these men are the 90 supermen who escaped the war?" asked McCoy.

"It is logical to conclude that Doctor," responded Spock.

McCoy didn't have an answer. He decided not to debate Spock on the logic of this situation.

McCoy had returned to sickbay and was checking on Khan. While McCoy was at the meeting and Nurse Chapel was at her workstation, Khan had awoken and grabbed a knife. He then faked sleep. As soon as McCoy leaned over Khan got up with a jolt and put the knife against McCoy's throat.

McCoy showed great discipline by not panicking or flinching as the knife was against his jugular.

"Where am I?" asked Khan.

"You are in bed, holding a knife against your doctor's throat," responded McCoy.

Khan decided to put the knife down. "How long?" he asked.

McCoy decided to lie and not disclose what he knew. "We aren't 100% sure. We estimate over 2 centuries."

"I would like to speak to your Captain," demanded the North Indian man.

"I will get him down here," responded Bones. He then walked into his office and thumbed the intercom. "Jim, the patient is awake and wishes to speak to you." Bones decided not to decscribe the incident that occured with the knife. He wasn't too worried about Khan. After all, they weren't positively sure on Khan being a product of late 20th century eugenics.

"I'll be right down there Bones," responded Kirk.

Kirk arrived about 5 minutes later. "I am Captain James T. Kirk of the Starship Enterprise," he began."

"I am Khan," responded the patient.

"Anything else?" asked Kirk.

"No, just Khan," he restated. "Captain, I have been told by Dr. McCoy he wants to keep me here for 36 hours of observation. I was an engineer in my time and I've been told I have a lot of catching up to do. Would it be possible for me to review the technical manuals of this vessel?"

Kirk flipped up a flat panneled screen. "This will give you access to the ship's library and you can review the data you want from it." He turned to McCoy. "Bones, try to help him should he need it."

McCoy nodded and then left with Kirk.

"Well, what do you think Bones?"

"I don't like it Jim."

"We'll keep the others in their current state aboard the Botany Bay until we can figure out what to do with them," responded Kirk.

"Can you post a security watch around Sickbay though?" asked Bones.

"I'll have Chekov see to it," responded Kirk.

Kirk and his senior staff decided to call another meeting in the main conference room aboard the Enterprise. Khan was no longer under McCoy's supervision. He was now in guest quarters, but a pair of security guards were posted outside his quarters.

Kirk began the meetings and explained that they were still unsure on what to do with Khan and his 90 or so followers aboard the Botany Bay. "Lieutenant McGivers, have you identified Khan's true identity yet?" he asked.

"I have looked through the limited records on the subject," she responded. "I believe I have ID'd him as Khan Noonien Singh. He was the so called 'best of tyrants.' He ruled an empire that stretched across all of Southeast Asia and half of the Middle East. He allowed his people no freedoms, but still didn't have genocide or civil wars within the lands he ruled."

"He is a man who is capable of doing much harm Captain," interjected Spock. "I would suggest posting extra guards around him."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

As the discussion occured upstairs, Khan knew that there was a reason security guards were outside his quarters. He knew that Kirk and his officers had discovered who he really was. There was only one option. He had to take over the Enterprise.

He went up against the sliding door and meditated for a moment. He then used his bear hands and pried the locked doorm open. One of the red shirted security guards rushed in only to be knocked out a moment later by Khan. The other reached for his phaser but got kicked by Khan onto the ground. Khan then snapped his neck and stole the phaser.

He was careful to hide the 2 dead bodies of the red shirts in his quarters. Thanks to his study of the technical manuals, Khan was able to find the transporter room quickly. Khan beamed over to his vessel and began to take his followers out of their state of suspended animation.

Eighty-four of his followers were awoken. Six of them had their units fail during the voyage and were permanently in their current state. It took him only 10 minutes to do all of this.

Before anyone knew what was happening, Khan and his men beamed back aboard the Enterprise.

By this time the meeting had adjourned. Kirk and his officers were back on the bridge. No extra security had been posted yet. Kirk doubted anyone could break out the bolted door of Khan's quarters.

Khan and his men stormed into Main Engineering. Scotty and the rest of his engineers on duty were quickly subdued. Khan's enhanced brain allowed him to learn much about the ship over the last 48 hours. He took over the environmental controls along with the turbolift controls. He shut off the turbolift and the life support systems for the bridge.

On the bridge, Kirk refused to surrender to Khan. The 20th century tyrant reminded the Captain he had 15 minutes of air left. Uhura and a few others had already passed out.

Kirk opened up his log. "Captain's log, Stardate 7093.5. Much of the bridge crew has already passed out due to the lack of oxygen. We have decided to not surrender to Khan. Giving him control of a vessel like the Enterprise would be disasterous. There is no telling what he can do..." Before he could finish the log, Kirk collapsed.

--------------------------------------------------------

After each of the members of the senior staff was revived, Khan took them under guard into the conference room. The officers noticed Kirk was not among them.

"Mr. Scott, I will need your help to get the warp engines online," stated Khan.

"Why should I help you?" asked the angry Scottsman.

"Joaqim, have LT. Uhura turn on the view screen," ordered Khan.

His follower complied and had the Lieutenant activate the screen. "That is your decompression chamber," stated Khan. "If you do not help me, you will watch your captain die and then go in there one by one."

"We won't bloody help you," responded Scotty.

"Johan, have Mr. Spock taken to the chamber" ordered Khan.

The augment follower of Khan took Spock alone. While Khan had spent a large amount of time reading on the technical details of the Enterprsie, he didn't read up on the different alien races aboard her. Had he done so, he wouldn't have sent one man to take the Vulcan to the chamber.

Spock was led through the corridor and was almost at the chamber when he used his Vulcan strength to get Johan off balance. As the human augment began to regain his balance, the Vulcan gave him a nerve pinch. The genetically engineered human was unconcious.

Spock picked up the man's phaser and ran into the chamber. The 2 mutants inside the room weren't expecting anything so Spock got them by surprise.

Kirk was inside the chamber and didn't look like he had much time. Spock got him out of there. "Spock, you made it seem too easy," stated Kirk.

"Captain, Khan may be genetically enhanced in terms of strength and intelligence, but the people who engineered him made the mistake of not removing the human characteristic of overconfidence," responded the Vulcan.

Kirk regained his breath and picked up a phaser for himself. He ran to the turbolift with Spock. "Engineering!" he called as he entered it. He was taken down several decks to a corridor near Main Engineering.

Spock and Kirk ran into the room only to be confronted by Khan. Khan had activated a field that would suppress any phaser fire. Kirk punched the augment to no effect. Khan then tossed him across the room. Spock fought with Khan as Kirk got up.

Spock was a better match. It was scientific fact that Vulcans were stronger than humans. Spock and Khan traded blows while Kirk grabbed a piece of metal machinery.

While Khan and Spock fought, Kirk came up behind Khan and struck him in the head. The blow sent Khan to the ground and allowed Spock to give him a nerve pinch.

Kirk ran over the the environmental controls and flooded all compartments except main engineering with gas.

With the Enterprise now secured, Kirk beamed Khan and his men back aboard the Botany Bay until their fate could be decided.

Khan was brought back aboard the Enterprise under heavy guard. He was cuffed and brought before Captain Kirk, Commander Spock, and Dr. McCoy in the conference room.

Kirk gave a summary of the situation and then turned to Spock. "Are we passing near the Ceti Alpha system?"

"Indeed we are Captain," responded the Vulcan. "The 5th planet of the system is a jungle and inhabittable."

"It would be a tough place to live, but it isn't different from Southeast Asia," pointed out Kirk. He then turned to Khan. "You have tamed a continent, can you tame a world?"

Khan looked back at Kirk and responded. "Have you read Milton captain?"

Kirk nodded with the knowledge that Khan and his men would settle on Ceti Alpha V. Khan was returned to the Botany Bay. The Enterprise towed the vessel towards Ceti Alpha V.

McCoy turned to Kirk after Khan left. "What was that about?" he asked.

"Milton's 'Paradise Lost.'" responded Kirk. "As Lucifer is about to descend to hell he states 'it s better to rule in hell than to serve in heaven.'"

Spock got up and faced the Doctor and his Captain. "It would be interesting, Captain, to return to that world in a hundred years and to learn what crop has sprung from the seed you planted today."

---------------------------------------------------------------------

The Enterprise approached the planet of Ceti Alpha V. Khan and 83 of his followers were brought down to the planet along with their ship. The planet was a jungle, but these 84 augments would be able to survive and possibly thrive in the environment.

Six Months Later

Khan and his followers had adapted well. Lieutenant McGivers, the historian aboard Enterprise had joined Khan for she had fallen in love with him.

All was going well despite the harshness of the jungle environment that was found on the continents of Ceti Alpha V. The supermen were able to easily adapt to the climate and were the seed of what could one day be a great galactic civilization.

Fate would not see it that way though. A few million miles away was the uninhabited planet Ceti Alpha VI. The planets core had destabalized over the years. On one fateful day, a large moon sized asteroid struck the planet. That was all that needed to happen for the planet's core to break apart. The massive planet exploded in a fireball.

On the surface of Ceti Alpha VI, the explosion lit up the night sky. Khan and his followers took a guess as to what the exploding object was.

A few days went by and there was little effect on the life of Ceti Alpha V.

After 2 weeks, it was noted that there had not been any rain since the explosion of Ceti Alpha VI. Weeks stretched into months and it became clear that there was a serious problem.

Khan and his men had only had the bulk of their existance during the dawn of the space age. They were intelligent enough to reason that the explosion shifted the orbit of Ceti Alpha V. Their lush jungle was turning into a desert.
