Name: Imperial Republic of the Appalacians
Government: President elected to rule absolutely for seven years
History: In 1908, a man by the name of General Juan Vicente Gómez rose to power. He created an authoritarian regime in Venezuela and his power quickly rose due to Venezuea's developing oil industry. However, a revolution against him arose in 1910 because of his autocratic tendencies. These revolutionaries overthrew the government after a long and bloody conflict in 1915. They created the current Constitution which details the election of a President for a seven year term. This President will have absolute rule, the only law he cannot change is the law governing the election process, which is direct election by popular vote. The writers also tasked his own Guard Unit, The Imperial Green Guard, to remove him from power if necessary. However, if the Green Guard is unsuccessful or loyal to the President, the military is to remove him from power.
After the first President of the newly formed Imperial Republic was elected, the people were content and peace reigned once more. Rómulo Gallegos, the President, began to bolster the floundering armed forces by inviting American officers to train his Navy and Army. In January of 1923, President Rómulo Gallegos was reelected. Then in July of 1923, The colony of British Guyana, seeing the solidarity of the new Imperial Republic, revolted against the British and succeeded in 1924. They promptly joined the Appalacians. Netherlands Guiana (Suriname), witnessing what the Guyanans had done, revolted against the Dutch in October of 1925. They gained their independence in September of 1927 and immediately joined the Imperial Republic.
Then, in 1930, Rómulo Gallegos was ousted in an election by the first Dutch Appalacian ever in office, Mark Marijinnsen. Marijinnsen soon made his intentions clear by making an offer to the French government to buy French Guiana in December of 1931. The French Government accepted the offer after much deliberation for a hefty price. Now, in 1935, The Imperial Republic is thriving due to its stability and oil industry while its armed forces are formidable.
