State of the Confederacy

The Confederacy was in its worst shape since it barely won the war of Succession with the Former United states (that is now part of Sharina).

The changing political environment in Earth V over the past 150 years has slowly but surely forced the Confederacy to conform and adapt to Earth V principles and this had a profound affect on one of the corner stones that founded the nation....

Slavery...

Slavery was technically abolished 75 years ago but the nation had been segregated ever since and up untill now "constitutional reform" as many "liberal" M.Ps in Richmond like to call it was restricted to the backbenches even though a few prominent M.Ps thought emancipation was inevitable they were quickly silenced by Radical Right wing parliamentarians who dominant the political proceedings of the nation since her birth all those years ago.

Now the Confederacy is in a state of national identity crises, the Ku Klux klan has a a steadily declining popularity rating despite its recent attempts to bring back Cross burning (The confederate government banned this under pressure from the United Nations in earth V.)

And many people are questioning what their actual nation stands for... Slavery? oppression? why did they ever bother succeeding from the United States if they just oppress other ethnicities?

Many people fear a Right Wing military Coup that could take place any week now in Richmond as the government has called for a state of Emergency in light of Increasing Race Riots in all major Confederate states.

Even some Hardline supporters of the Confederacy are ascared of the sheer ferocity of Angry Black Rioters after nearly two centuries of oppression.

The Port of Houston was brought to a complete standstill as Indentured Black labourers went off the job in protest.

The sheer audacity of such an incident overwhelmed the small white security presence who did not expect such a move......

Thus for two weeks the Confederacies largest port was out of action and Large scale race riots broke out in all major cities.

During this two week maelstrom across the nation the Black revolutionary leader Malcolm James was shot dead in baton Rouge during a peaceful black protest by a Hardcore klan militant.

The militant was caught and subsequently was ordered for five weeks community service because his lawyer convinced a Hardline white jury that Malcolm James was instigating Violence in the city of Baton Rouge.

This was to the extreme detriment of baton Rouge as this added fuel to the fire for Angry black mobs and the city suffered the most damage and highest casualty figures in the nation during the 2 weeks of anarchy.

The turning point was when goverment forces started beating down Both Black and white protestors.

A moment in particular was when white protestors stood in the way of a military convoy that was headed towards the black protestors base camp in houston which was the port co incidentally.

The ensuing massacre was a result of the Militaries frustrated efforts to subdue the massive scale of the Riots and the fact that Whites were empathising with the black protestors....

Then came the Military Coup......

the "Grey House" The presidential office in Richmond, Virginia was a testament to the Confederacies "inferority complex" in which if they did not have anything comparable to their Northern neighbour somehow this made them inferior (not including civil rights however) and had a considerable affect on their national pride.

Thus in all state capitals each government building was just as ornate if not as big as the national capitals.

I.C.

President Jack Sickles looked over the Balcony of the "Grey House" observing Black gardeners work on the presidential gardens. He wondered when the Confederate dream would come crashing down.

The Two week race riots practically put the Confederacies economy to a standstill as the major port of houston has only just been re opened (albeit under Brutal methods which sparked international condemnation) and racial violence is still rife in all major states.

even the C.S.As elite felt the grip of economic isolation as many imported luxury goods wre either delayed for atleast a week to other confederate ports or were cancelled by foreign exportersdue to the escalating violence.

Now Sickles knew about the growing pressure from the "Aristocracy" to re assert Confederate values on the nation or otherwise he would probably face a military coup which he knew he would have little support from his own generals as most of them are either huge plantation owners or have a controlling interest in exploiting the Black population or both.

Sickles grew weary, He hardly recognized Richmond when he ascended to power nearly 15 years ago. Old Quaint pre sucession confederate historical buildings were being torn down being subsituted by monothitic corporate skyscrapers and Self indulgent recreation centres, Cineplexes. e.t.c

Protestors we in perpetual motion outside the presidential gates either demanding emancipation for blacks or for affrimative action. The two groups of protestors were wisely seperated as the racial klan protestors were relatively easy to identify.

Sickles knew he was stuck in the middle. (Emancipate the Blacks? then what, Why did we fight the way of Sucession in the first place? that and the economy would be severely hit as the white majority would suddenly find they have to do theri own menial labour with no manservants.)

(Or keep a hardline approach and risk even more international ostracism) Sickles knew this option was feasible as The Conderacy had a white majority as opposed to the Boer Republiks White minority (which he had considerable praise for the Boers lasting as long as they have) but somehow the confederacy had to change.........

Sickles then ordered a manservant (white, as balcks were not allowed in the Grey house) to fetch him some fine confederate whisky.

John Sanderson the Confederate governor of texas listened with interest to Jack Sickes speach to the senate at the state of the confederacy conferance in Richmond.

The interest turned into bewilderment as the president of the Confederacy has announced national elections for each constituent state of the confederacy and overseas terrirories on whether they should be part of a reformed confederacy or break away from the nation and become seperate republics.

The word "reformed" resounded throughout the national senate building and many senators and governors alike pondered this ambigous meaning.

The president did not say any further on this subject but said.

"gentlemen in 3 months this monomentous occaision will take place in all the constituent capitals of our great nation here we will decide our own destiny, we need to adapt or die"

with that the Aging 70 year old Sickles left the presidential podium to a atmosphere of suprising jubilence and relief after years of trouble.

2 days later the Coup occured.....

The Supposed Annual military parade (held annually since the Independence of the C.S.A) looked a lot larger than usual mentioned a confederate news reporter on national t.v.

as 100s of armoured troop carriers entered the capital along with a plethora of Armoured Humvees. The tens of tousands of Richmond civilians coming to view the great spectacle just watched on in sheer admiration.

public disapproval of the Sickles administration before the presidents undisclosed "reformation bill" was at an all time low but due to the Presidents suprising announcement a mere 2 days ago his popularity was sky high much to the detriment to the coup conspirators as they were to find out.

The crowds exuberance finally died when a giant Burning cross was carried through town by hundreds of Klan members.

"this is terrible, How did they though police checkpoints with that?" The news reporter said . Then it dawned on him.

"good heavens, a coup, The generals are launching a .....

The fire from a assault rifle finished the Reporters speach and his life.

his blood was splattered all over the camera before it fell to the ground with a military boot crushing the camera..

Two black hawk helicopters flew over the Grey house....

President sickles heard gunfire in the grey house lobby.. he was not suprised instead he composed himself ready for the coup conspirators to burst through the door and into his office...

in John sandersons office in texas....

a desk clerk rushed into the governors office

"Sir we have an emergency broadcast from the military wanting support from the state of Texas, They have launched an affirmative action coup against President Sickles"

John sandersons pugnatious round face turned bright red.

"unconstitutional redneck bastards!!!!"

was the short but adequate awnser by the governor. "Get me the media im going on the Airwaves to denounce this Coup d etat"

Fuck Fuck.... !!! Major Donaldson screamed at the coup leader....

"watch....."

They were both in the presidents office with sickles held at gunpoint...

The major switched on the presidents 45 inch Plasma Television hidden behind a picture of the first confederate president.

It was the Governor of texas...

"the states of Texas, Louisiana and missippi Unilaterally deplore and therefore denounce the actions of the Coup de etat against the confederacy, If anything happens to the president whilst these criminals rob us of our government, Our country and our dignity expect no mercy when we get to the gates of the Grey house."

"SHIT, we needed support from texas, If it wasnt for sanderson" Donaldson was still furious.

Jack Sickles smirked.

Grand wizard steven marsh mearly responded by shooting the Condecending Jack sickles in the head.

"now the dice are rolled"

the deranged Klan Grand wizard said to a clearly preturbed Donaldson

The Ensuing anarchy in the Confederacy lasted about 4 days. as the coup conspirators did not have support from any confederate state despite having support from most of the generals. The lower military rebelled from the High command and supported the confederate people.

This was most exeplified in the capital Richmond where a whole armoured division was left still in the middle of the busy highway out of the city by blockade after blockade of motor vehicles. The sheer will of the people overcame the adversity of other peole controlling it by force.

The military was re organised and the generals quickly surrendered.

Steven Marsh did not get one opportunity to proclaim his acsension to the presidency as his forces could not get to the television station. And he was latershot in the back by Donaldson dressed in civilians clothing infront of a soldier holding a video camera.

The Klan leader is dead friends, countrymen!!!! Donaldson proclaimed form the balistrades....

The applause was deafening.

In honour of the Late Jack Sickles the national elections took place across the country with a few suprises....

The landslide Result in Michigan and Ohio were for Independence from the confederacy alltogether.

Kansas narrowly won independance from the Confederation as did Indiana. (with military alliances with the confederation)

Surinam was granted special status within the Confederation in light of the Sharinan- RUN war.

The rest of the states were coralled into the new confederation.

(Um yeah, Is this ok? I know I should do A R.P. of every nation that get assimilated, but these are states within a nation)

OOC:

Looking good so far. This is why you're more than welcome to become an official member of Earth V. I'd like to see roleplays for these other states besides Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, considering that the US states are treated as "nations" in Earth V (after all, some US states are bigger than entire European or African countries).
