Economics
Much of Texas' agriculture now comes from Missouri and Kansas, while it's co-ownership of New ORleans and it's multiple ports along the Gulf of Mexico means it has a brisk trade with the Carribean and the rest of the world.
However, Texas also has industry and large oil reserves, which it plans to use to it's full advantage, with a booming auto industry and increasing industrilization, as it can no longer depend on other states for manufactured goods.
Military
The Grand Republic maintains a small volounteer army, plus army air units. Many of them are either old US Army units that came over to the Texans or are simply renamed in the style of the old units.
On the naval front, the Republic currently has many small patrol craft, as well as a flotilla of destroyers. There are plans to add submarines, some cruisers and an aircraft carrier to the navy.
During times of war, the President is allowed to draft troops to increase the size of the military.
The military currently uses the Liberty Mk. 1 (http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y77/havoc88/libertymk1.jpg) light tank as it's main armored vehicle, as well as armored scout cars.
The infantry use the time-tested Springfield 1903 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M1903_Springfield_rifle) bolt-action rifle as their main weapon, along with the Thompson sub-machien gun and Browning Automatic Rifle as support weapons. The mainstay of their machine-gun arsenal is the M191 Browning machine gun.
