Official Yaforite Response

We commend the Vetakan authorities for their quick notification of this pirate threat. Pirates, even in this day and age, are a dangerous threat to international shipping and vessels which fly the colors of any nation. This alert, which has been forwarded to all commercial Yaforite vessels in or around the area (as well as those who may possibly be in the area in the future) may be vital to saving many lives. This timely notification is the act of only a responsible government. Bravo to the Vetakans for this alert, so soon and with so much gusto. You may have saved the lives of many people.

Nonetheless, is it not important to stop these pirates in their tracks, but also to understand the reasoning behind their reactions. Perhaps many of them, especially the disgruntled the drug dealers, for example, grew up in poverty. This poverty must be eradicated to stop these pirates. This is probably not the only reason for the pirate reaction to be as it was. Are you sure that there is no communal feeling among these pirates - maybe the result of resent annexation? If they believe they are fighting for their homeland, it will be difficult to stop them.

However, the threat is imminent and as it is, the Grand Democratic Duchy of Yafor 2 must do its duty as a protector of freedom, wealth, and prosperity throughout the world. Thus, we encourage the Vetakan authorities to allow a small Yaforite fleet (perhaps a wolfpack of submarines, for example?) to assist you in dealing with this menace. While we understand that you may be reluctant to allow international soldiers to enter your territories, these pirates are a threat now, and a threat to us as well as you. From this emerges our request.

However, we seek only to do good in the world. If this request is not to your liking, we understand. We only hope that we can aid in stopping this pirate menace.

"In peace do we stand, it is in war that we fall."

The Holy Confederacy of New Aeson would like to second the offer of The People's Freedom (our erstwhile allies) to send a fleet to Vetakan waters to bolster the Vetakan Defence Force's anti-pirate activities.

Allowing such lawlessness to continue only send a negative message, and will merely bolster more lawlessness, which may, in theory, eventually spread to international waters, and therefore threaten Aesonic interests. Therefore, I, General Blak, cannot stress how important it is that you accept this offer.

Official Response From the Harakian Government

We commend your government for this swift announcement and warning to the world, and we have taken necessary precautions for all ships flying the Harakian flag in the area to be outfitted with escorting Harakian warships operating from a Harakian island naval base. With your permission, we would like to dispatch to this base two flights of our naval air arm (Read: 24 planes) which we will then use to sweep the surrounding area and quickly respond to any distress calls from attacked civilian vessels.

We would like to echo our friends in Yafor 2 in both looking for the source of this piracy and in offering our help to eradicate the problem. As the forces operating from the Harakian base in the area are quite small - one squadron of outdated Successor-class destroyers, two newer Royal-class destroyers and two outdated Sage-class light cruisers - they will most likely be extending themselves to intercept and protect Harakian civilian assets in the area first and foremost. However, with your permission, we would like to deploy a small taskforce under Commodore Henry Bennett to aid in Vetakan efforts to hunt down these pirates. These forces would primarily assist in the endeavour by escorting any civilian ship which requests an escort through the waters in question.

We await your response.

Dominion of Vetaka Diplomatic Message:

The Dominion of Vetaka is more than happy to accept any and all help from the International Community. Vetaka has just emgered from a Brutal Civil War that saw the death of some 5 Million Vetakans as a result during the War Vetaka was a haven for the Pirates as their was little in the way of Law Enforcement it is only now that we are realising the scale of the problem.

Vetaka at this present time is a Dictatorship however Democracy is slowly being introduced the Vetakan People see the Pirates as an Obstacle to Democracy. Any nation that wishes to deploy military personnel to Vetaka should contact the Vetaka Defence Force High Command to request a base of operations as well as an up to date situation briefing.

Vetaka wishes to thank all Nations in their support for the Nation. Your help will always be remembered.

Thank You

ICCD would like to send pirates, as surely they will not be around, or much water left for them after all the other nations ships arrive. Honesly though ICCD would be more than willing to send assistance to stop the pirates et al from illegal activities, but has opted instead at sending airplanes with antishipping missles. We will hold off on any such actions though, but target practice although expensive could also be issued. We will defiantely divert our shipping as required or give reasonable escorts to shipping where it does not already exist.

Re: Vetaka Pirates

I would like to inform you that the United Commonwealth of Delesa is willing to send a couple of ships to assist the Vetaka Navy in capturing and destroying the pirate threat. A couple of our reasons of assisting in your problem would be, one, it would be smart to destroy the threat before inocent lives are lost, and a test run in combat for our Leo Capital Class Battleship, with a special anti-boarding system, and a intergrated A.I. system before being put to the real test in the up coming war, Operation Galactica.

Looking forward to your reply,

OOC: No worries, you're doing fine.

We would like to merely remind the Vetakan government that the Harakians do not need a base in the area. As Haraki has been around for a long time, we have had more than sufficient time to establish island bases to allow power projection nearly everywhere in the world - mostly achieved during the Age of Colonization -, though although our navy is large we do not maintain strong forces in all these bases. We do not want to impose upon Vetaka itself, so we will use our own base. We do, however, request that Harakian ships and airplanes be allowed to respond to distress calls as well as Vetakan ships.

We are currently in the process of dispatching a small naval taskforce under Commodore Bennett to assist in this endeavour. They too will be based at the Harakian base in the area, and will hopefully not impose upon you in any way.

We also appreciate Vetaka's moves towards democracy and would be willing to help facilitate these moves if your government so desires. We see that you are moving on your own and do not wish to impose our will upon yours. However, if any other obstacles present themselves, feel free to contact us in request for help.

Bethasa Island, Harakian minor naval base near Velaka:

The first of the planes touched down lightly, its autopilot smoothly managing the landing, and the pilot taxied off the runway to allow the next of his comrades to land. The base's small air strip was being taxed by the request to deploy and maintain two flights of planes when it was designed to only ever use two ever-present reconnaissance planes. Fortunately, the Harakian naval command had foreseen this and deployed two wings of Navy STOL fighter-bombers, designed to be based off carriers with shortened flight decks, and designed to withstand the elements during extended periods of time on topside storage space on Harakian aircraft carriers. The small airstrip and limited hangar space would be more than necessary, as the base had enough clear space to keep the twenty-four planes comfortably.

The more taxing part would be when Bennett's force arrived, slightly over a dozen state-of-the-art Harakian ships led by Bennett's flagship for the mission, the battlecruiser HNS Taurus. The naval base, designed for older, smaller Harakian ships, was not big enough and did not have a deep enough keel to keep the Taurus in port. Fleet Command had made a note to expand depth and port facilities of all minor naval bases to allow projection at least up to and including Atherlon-class battleships, Haraki's mainstay capital ship class.

They would not arrive for another week or two, however, and would with them bring a large convoy of supplies and oil for the island to maintain all the naval personnel that would be present for possibly months at a time.

The lead pilot of the two flights, one Lieutenant Commander Charles Wick, dismounted his plane once it had landed, and turned to await his wingman, Lieutenant Joseph Kivvey. Once Kivvey had parked his plane beside Wick's, the two men shared a high five, and Kivvey gave Wick a sly grin. "Been a while since we saw some real action, Chuck."

Wick grinned back at him. "I know. Let's have some fun with this one. Pirates, eh? Well, I'll be damned." He grinned and his eyebrows jumped for a moment. "What're the bets I'm the second highest-ranked officer here, Joe?"

"Pretty good. I'm not taking that, wait for some other sucker. I bet there's a Commander in charge of the base and maybe the Frederick, it's the flagship here, right?"

Wick shrugged. "Who the fuck knows? C'mon, let's get a drink. Or I'll drag you by your eyebrow ring."

Kivvey jokingly protected his left eyebrow with a gloved hand, his other hand holding his flight helmet against his hip, as the two men walked into the base facility. "I hope there's some fucking coffee," Wick muttered under his breath, "or the new officer might get mad."

To: All Nations Wishing to Deploy Forces to Aid "Operation Vetakan Freedom"

All offers of aid are accepted however we must stress two conditions:

1) No Deployment can be over 20,000 Combat Personnel
2) No Deployment can not be armed with Nuclear Weapons

We ask that all nations detail their deployments as well as their proposed rules of engagements. Because of our current situation we cannot assign all nations and individual Base of Operations. Please enquiry should you require one.

At this time Operation Vetakan Freedom has one clear objective Destroy the Pirate Threat. Each nation is encouraged at this time to hunt the Pirates until their bases are discovered. From their a co-ordinated offensive can be launched.

Thank You for your Aid

The narrow runway was only wide enough for one plane to take off at a time, and Wick as the leader of the patrol was the first in the air, closely followed by Kivvey and two of their comrades. Doing a lazy circle over the island while he waited, Wick whistled low and long into the headset he wore in the flight helmet. "This island's nothing but a volcano, Joe. We're based on solidified lava."

"Don't get your panties in a bunch, Chuck," came the response. "It's dormant and has been for centuries. Remember, you're flight leader."

Wick laughed. "No problem, Able Two, just remember that when it erupts and kills us all."

The entire flight was airborne by this point, and Wick altered course to take them out to the north-east, the first leg of their patrol. Below them, they could see the Royal-class destroyers HNS Shinny and HNS Thomas leaving port. Wick, as leader of the air arm deployed, had been informed of their intentions: to intercept and escort the Harakian freighter HS Cricket through infested waters. Able patrol was dispatched to the north-east to take them behind the Cricket's current position and then swing them around in an arc past the Cricket, to protect it until the escorting destroyers could arrive, then sweep their way back to base, making sure no pirates were between the Cricket and Bethasa Island. At the same time, Bravo Flight was dispatched to the north-west to clear and patrol the Cricket's projected course and sweep their way towards the HS Samantha, a Harakian container ship which had the HNS Sebastian light cruiser and HNS Culvert destroyer dispatched to escort it.

"Let's go find the Cricket, boys," Wick called out. "And hope some pirates get in the way. Report in, boys."

"Able Two, reporting in," came Kivvey's voice.

"Able Three, reporting in," responded a female lieutenant.

"Able Four, reporting in," said a male lieutenant junior grade.

"Oh good, all our radios work," Kivvey mused. "How surprising."

"Flight Lead, what's our ETA on Waypoint One, and the ships' ETA on rendezvous with the Cricket?" Able Three asked loud and clear.

"ETA to Waypoint One ten minutes. ETA escort ships and Cricket, two hours on projected course. We cover them until then."

Ten minutes passed uneventfully, and the four planes banked hard left, turning to the west to fly past the Cricket. As they did so, Wick cheekily waved at the ship far below them. He knew they couldn't see his wave, but down below he saw a relieved crewman giving the four planes a wave. "All clear on the Cricket," he reported back to base. "Establishing radio contact. Go ahead, Cricket, this is Lieutenant Commander Charlie Wick of the Harakian Navy. Any troubles?"

"Negative. This is Captain Kyzia of the Cricket, all clear."

"Right then. Continuing patrol sweep," Wick replied, and the four planes flew on their way.

An hour and a half passed fairly uneventfully. The planes had finished their initial patrol and were on their way back to base when the call came. The two ships were still half an hour removed from the Cricket, and suddenly over the radio came a crackling distress call. "This is the Cricket to all ships in the area. We are under attack by pirate vessels, two, both smaller than our ship. We are unarmed and request naval aid."

Wick grinned and banked his plane around, the other three following. "We're the closest thing, baby," he told the other three pilots. "It's another half hour before the Royals get there, and they could all be dead by then. We can make it in five if we speed up enough."

He received a chorus of "Roger That"'s from his team, and shoved the throttle to maximum. "This is Lieutenant Commander Wick to Captain Kyzia. We are on our way. Try and delay them five minutes, over."

"This is Captain Kyzia. We may not have five minutes. They're getting close and firing warning shots across our bow to tell us to stop. What should we do, over?"

"Just try and hold them off. We should be in missile range in ... three minutes for Hydra missiles, more than that for Rangers. Hold them off and we will rescue you. Over."

"Copy that, Commander. We'll do our best. Cricket out."

Three minutes felt like an eternity, the three blips on the radar coming close together, two quickly circling the third larger one as it slowly came to a stop. "This is Able One," Wick shouted, pushing several buttons in front of him, a square appearing on his radar around one of the pirate ships, a diamond slowly locking into the centre of it. "Missile lock acquired. Able One, Hydra One."

He thumbed the button on the top of his joystick, covered by a red safety guard, and watched with satisfaction as a white streak, the exhaust from the missile's engine, streaked forward towards the horizon. Eighty kilometres away, in one of the pirate ships, they began to panic. A small boat had just been dispatched, filled with pirates bristling with weaponry, when the report had come in of a missile launch from somewhere to the south. They had time to respond, move the ship, and they accelerated to maximum speed perpendicular to the missile's course, but it simply adjusted its course.

Not very much time after its launch, the missile slammed home into the front-left superstructure of the small pirate ship, exploding in a fireball and obliterating the vessel's bridge and frontal armament. Running to the back, where several high-calibre machine guns had been armed, the pirates readied themselves for a fight they knew they could not win. As the four planes crested the horizon, unsure of damage caused by the first missile strike and unable to get a clear shot against the second due to their positioning behind the Cricket, they viewed the destruction caused by the first missile. The pirate ship was still moving, its engines still running, but the bridge and much of the front of the ship was missing. It was not holed below the waterline and thus not sinking, but it was all-but out of the fight. "Nice shot, Chuck," Kivvey conceded.

"As always," Wick replied, smug as usual.

As the four planes finished a preliminary flyby and peeled off into their two pairs, the pirates in the smaller boat anticipated their options. One, they could carry on and try to board and capture the Cricket, hoping that would provide them with defence from the new threat. Alternately, they could turn back to their ship and try to escape. Vainly, and foolishly not realizing the extent of the damage done to their ship, they turned the boat around, leaving a crescent-shaped wake in the sea behind them. The crew of the Cricket, seeing the retreating pirates and the half-destroyed pirate ship, let loose a cheer and were met by an RPG from the boat loosing a grenade towards them in anger. It exploded harmlessly against the hull, leaving nice score marks but not doing serious damage.

Wick and Kivvey were flying side by side towards the second pirate ship. "I got dibs," Kivvey shouted, a grin appearing on his face.

"Like hell," Wick growled. "Able One, Ranger One." The missile streaked away towards the ship, its heavy payload, half again as much as the Hydra, restricting its range but adding to its damage factor.

"Fucker," Kivvey responded. "Able Two, Ranger One." His missile, hot on the heels of Wick's, only on a slightly different angle.

The two planes slowed to allow the missile to hit before they flew over, and witnessed an awe-inspiring sight. Wick's missile smashed into front left bulkhead, the side of the ship, and smashed through any armour the pirates had placed there, exploding and destroying the entire front portion of the small and poorly-armoured ship. Kivvey's hit only moments later, impacting the left side of the vessel and smashing a massive hole in the side of it. The ship rapidly tipped and began filling with water, its crew hurriedly abandoning ship for the cold water around them. "That's a kill for Able One," Able Four shouted gleefully into the radio.

"Bullshit!" Kivvey blurted out. "That was my kill, Chuck stole it!"

Able Three responded by moving in low and opening fire with her 30mm cannon against the smaller boat of boarders, smashing a rapidfire line of bulletholes through the motorboat and its occupants. Water began seeping in around the feet of the survivors as the plane finished its strafing run and pulled up, flying by dangerously low past the boat and beside the Cricket. They gunned the motor and fired their weapons after the plane, but it did no good. The boat was sinking quickly, and she quickly banked hard for another run even as her wingman, Able Four, strafed the remaining back end of the first ship, killing one man manning a machinegun.

Recognizing their defeat, the pirates acceded defeat and raised their hands in the air, waving anything white to hand into the air to signify surrender. Wick grinned. "First Harakian engagement with the pirates successful! Able Flight has engaged and destroyed two pirate vessels!"

"This is Lieutenant Commander Paul Hinter of the HNS Sebastian. We have engaged a pirate vessel headed to intercept the Cricket. We have sunk the vessel and taken over twenty prisoners. We will be at your position in fifteen minutes. We think these were reinforcements."

"Roger that, Hinter. Able Flight is running low on fuel, we will be returning to base now and leaving the Cricket and the two destroyer escorts to pick up survivors. Able Flight over and out."

The four planes turned south once again, this time heding straight back to the island. The four planes of a patrol flight had engaged and defeated two small pirate ships, while the two escort destroyers for the Cricket had engaged and destroyed a third. An auspicious beginning to the anti-piracy campaign indeed.

Operation Vetakan Freedom Situation Report

This is a mission briefing to all nations currently deploying troops to participate in Operation Vetakan Freedom.

Operation Aims:

1) Escort any ship that requires such an escort through Vetakan Waters.
2) Remove the pirates and their infrastructure and ensure they do not re-surface.

History of the Vetakan Pirates:

During the Vetakan Civil War Vetaka was unable to enforce the rule of law as well and as effectivly as it should of been. Also during the war their was no Customs & Excise or shipping control. Thus the Pirates where able to grow and Florish in a lawless enviroment. However now that Vetaka is united the removal of the pirates is necessary to ensure that Vetaka can develop without criminals interferring.

Current Operational Objectives:

1) Patrol the Region providing a visiable deterrent to the Pirates as well as allowing the Coalition of Nations to respond to any distress call.

2)General Hunting Operations to destroy as many pirates as possible.

3)Gather intelligence to destroy the pirate infrastructure.

Current Intelligence:

The Pirates at this time are made up of three clear groups:

-Drug Dealers
-Arms Weapons Dealers
-General Pirates

They are organized in the sense they make Tactical Strikes during their attacks. However their is no clear leadership and their is evidence to suggest
that the various pirate groups attack eachother. They are sparsely located across Vetaka mostly in the uninhabited south of the region.

Rules of Engagement :

Nations are authorized to:

-Engage any Ship, Plane and Helicopter except those of other nations.

-Search any ship except those of other nations.

-Seize Goods however these must be sent to VDF Dentention Centre on Helgan Harbour.

-Arrest Those belived to be pirates however all prisoners must be sent to the VDF Dentention Centre on Helgan Harbour.

Please Alert Vetakan Defence Force Central Command (VDFCC) of any engagements, casulties, prisoners, arrests, seized goods and any other information.

Please contact me if you require any other information.

Thank You for your Aid in this Operation

Foreign Office Statement

His Majesty’s Government, as a maritime power, would like to express its gratitude to the Vetakan government for the timely alert with respect to lawlessness in Vetakan waters. While the international community has been most forthcoming with offers of assistance, the United Kingdom would be remiss if it did not do so as well.

If called upon by the Vetakan government, the United Kingdom of Oceania can deploy a small patrol force consisting of a light carrier, cruiser, two destroyers and eight frigates along with five auxiliaries. If further permitted, a squadron of maritime surveillance aircraft from the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm would be dispatched to provide aerial surveillance of the threatened waters; these aircraft, however, would require a land-based airfield from which to operate.

Thørlief finished reading the report, and set it down. "That'll do for now," he announced to his XO. "We get anything from the Skyeye yet?"

"Aye, sir. We're picking up an unidentified ship. Looks like a cargo ship with some big ugly guns strapped on."

"Alright! What's that crazy sub commander's name?"

"Adderson, sir?"

"That's the one! Get him on the radio and tell him to get his ass over to that pirate ship and shove a torpedo up their a-"

"Right away sir," interupted the executive officer, motioning towards the radio operator, who relayed the message to Adderson."

"Had my eyes on doing just that," replied Adderson, "But check your sonar again. They're not alone."

The sonar operator did so, and announced, "There's a small submarine tailing the ship, sir. Also unidentified."

"Tell you what," said Adderson, "If I can handle the sub and the ship in ten minutes, starting now, your boys buy us drinks. If I can't, we'll buy you drinks."

Thørlief glanced at the clock on the wall. It would take Adderson about eight minutes to get within firing range, and, after all, the carrier carried a lot more men than the sub.

"You're on," he said. Adderson smiled to himself.

"Full speed ahead!" He shouted, "We're going to win some beer!"

This brought unanimous cheers from the crew, and the sub sped silently through the water. A handful of minutes later, the enemy sub was in range. More importantly, it was turning.

"Krell shtocka!" Shouted Adderson, in High Aesonic. "That's it. They've spotted us. They're first."

Apparentally they had relayed their discovery to the main ship. Even as the first torpedo was launched it was turning to speed away. The first torpedo caught the submarine in the center, blowing a huge hole in the outdated hull. It began sinking, as Adderson's sub, The Bad Wolf, turned towards the now fleeing pirate ship.

The torpedo that hit the pirate ship was not as immediately effective as the one that had hit the outdated submarine. But then, it wasn't supposed to be. There was plenty of time for the men to bail out as it slowly sank. Adderson hit his stopwatch, and glanced at it. Nine minutes fifty seconds. Not bad.

The sub rose to the surface, and a man rushed to man the machine gun on the top of it. Aesonic law was very clear on laws regarding to pirates. The majority were cut down in the water, except a few, who were taken onboard as prisoners.

Now it only remained to interrogate them and hand them over to the Vetakans.

Private John Smith was sat at his operation station in the newly built Vetakan Defence Force Central Command Builiding. The building was so new the wall next to Johns station was still slightly wet with paint. He continued watching his monitor and monitoring the radio frequencies.

It was the early hours of the morning the Command Room at this time was manned by 10 Personnel. These where a Chief Watch Commander, a Sargeant, 3 Corporals and 5 Privates monitoring radar and communications. Their job was to provide a point of call for the nations and forces currently involved in Operation Vetakan Freedom against the Pirates.

Watch Commander Kay coughed causing john to blink and shiver. John straigtend up and carried on monitoring the his Comms Screen.

02:36, Somewhere in Vetakan Water South of Big V Island,

The Imperial Cruiser Bright Star I a massive tourist Cruise Ship capable of carrying some 8,000 Passengers at a time. Some 260,000-tons of ship and 639 metres long. The Bright Star was trully amazing and spectacular. It was boosted to be the largest Cruise Ship in the world. Most of the passengers where still awake partying.

She was commanded by Captain Hannibal whom liked to be on the bridge captain hannibal had argued against the decsion to bring the Bright Star through Vetakan Waters after the Vetakan State had warned all ships to avoid Vetaka. But what did he know he was just a captain of 30 Years experience. The ship cruised on at half speed the sooner Vetaka was behind the sooner he could relax.

Suddenly a streak of light appeared in the water it shot towards the ship Hannibal's experience in the navy taught him to know that the light was a missile. It hit the ship just above the bridge causing an explosion. Lights had now appeared throughout the sea moving towards the ship.

Hannibal could now hear gun shots and more explosions. Pirates must of boarded the ship towards the rear. Hannibal got to his feet and ran to the comms station hit the big red button the alarm button sending out a distress signal.

Hannibal began barking orders:

"Helm Full Power. Make as many evasive manovavers as possible"
this is a quarter of a million tonne ship mow those rats down"

..... The seamen at the helm responded "But Sir we could tip" "her thats a chance we have to take." responded Hannibal

Hannibal walked over to the ships intercom and spoke as calmly as he could into the mic:

"Attention all this is the captain please remain calm the ship is under attack by pirates please remain calm and return to your cabins. Co-operate fully with all staff instructions. All Hands to your stations."

Hannibal now pressed the button that cut the speakers to all public areas and kept the speakers to all staff areas.

"All Hands to action stations get the passengers to their quarters or assigned holding areas. Engines full speed give me everything you can. Security Authorization to use the small armory keep the dogs at bay."

Hannibal turned to the comm's officer....

"Comms send an urgent distress signal to any ship on all frequencies. Send this... Hannibal Cleared his throat:

"This is Captain Hannibal of the Cruise Ship Bright Star I to VDFCC and any other military force are we under attack by at least 20 Small Pirate Ships and
at least 2 small helicopters. We request urgent aid I REPEAT URGENT AID REQUIRED"

Give them our current location and course. Hannibal looked out across the water more missiles where streaking towards the ship hitting the ship in different areas causing explosions and shock waves. Hannibal steadied himself suddenly a helicopter flew towards the bridge it fired its twin mounted machine guns at the bridge he fell to the floor the bridge was torn apart. He got up and discovered that helm officer was dead and comms was wounded. He ran up to the helm and steadied the ship. He began to realise the ship was slowing he pressed the intercom button from helm to engines and shouted.

"we are slowing down engine room whats going on?"
...... Silence
"Surrender the ship captain or you will die here" came a sly voice

Realsing the pirates where aboard and the ship was losing speed he left the helm and ran to the bridge door pressing the green button the door immediatly closed and locked a clever anti terror device to stop the bridge from been taken by terrorists.

02:50, Vetakan Defence Force Central Command, Theeb:

John's console suddenly began to flash he flicked the button and his headset began to speak:

"This is Captain Hannibal of the Cruise Ship Bright Star I to VDFCC and any other military force are we under attack by at least 20 Small Pirate Ships and
at least 2 small helicopters. We request urgent aid I REPEAT URGENT AID REQUIRED"

John hit the alarm button sending the room into a panic. Sir...... John pressed a different button sending the message into the rooms surround sound. The Watch Commander Listerend and when it finished. He roared....

"RED ALERT."
"WAKE THE PRESIDENT AND ALERT STONE"
"DIVERT ANYTHING WITHIN RANGE NOW"

"OPEN COMMS.... THIS IS WATCH COMMANDER KAY AT VDFCC ALL UNITS DEPLOY TO AREA SOUTH OF BIG V ISLAND THE 260,000 TONNE CRUISE SHIP BRIGHT STAR I IS UNDER ATTACK BY LARGE A OF GROUP HOSTILES BOTH AIRBOURNE AND NAVAL BOURNE. ALL UNITS DEPLOY AND NEUTRALISE"

John began to do what was ordered and relay the messages this was going to be a long day.

ZMS Köln, Ardent-class Frigate of the Van Luxemburgian Marine, just outside Vetakan waters

The Köln was only on a routine patrol along the ocean, when it had been alerted by the Marine Admiralty about a possible pirate warning in Vetaka. The Frigate, built in The Freethinker Commonwealth, had been at cruising speed for almost an hour when the first message came to Commander Otto Lindenthal.

Sir, This is Radio. We've received an SOS from what seems to be a Cruise Liner. It seems the Vetakans are also on it. Send a response?

Lindenthal rearranged his mind for a minute, before replying. The admiralty had allowed him to aid the Vetakans whenever possible, and this, he thought, was the moment.

Roger, Radio. Send the message to both the VDF and to the Cruise Liner.

The response was short and to-the-point.

Acknowledged, Sir. Radio out.

Attention all troops! Full Alert! All man stations! Propulsion, I want Full Speed immediately! Aviation, I want a helicopter out on the helideck, let the pilots ready for status Green! Take-off commence in 15 minutes, Comm Out.

COMMUNICATION FROM VAN LUXEMBURGIAN MARINE WARSHIP ZMS KÖLN

FRIGATE ON IT'S WAY, AT FULL SPEED AND FULL ALERT. HELICOPTER HEADING OFF IN A FEW MINUTES. HOLD ON, HELP IS ON THE WAY.

The bright white lights from the routine patrol changed into the dampened red lighting of a mission, and troops ran to their battlestations. The Main gun's functionality checks were ran, and the VLS cells were activated. The frigate's single NH-90 was rolled out onto the deck, while it's crew hastily jumped inside of it. The grey helicopter was quickly fired up, and the blades swooshed through the sea breeze.

All troops at stations. Full Alert. Main Gun Functional. VLS Functional. CIWS at High Alert. Helicopter ready for take-off, Sir.

The status report was quickly completed, and the officer was sent back to it's post.

Attention, this is Mama Köln to Lifeliner 116. Maintain low altitude on this one, cleared for takeoff.

Lifeliner 116 to Mama Köln, acknowledged. Takeoff commencing.

The NH-90 lifted off the helideck and passed low over the bridge of the Frigate, and slowly vanished in the distance.

Cruise Ship Bright Star I, this is Van Luxemburgian Warship Köln. Our helicopter is on it's way, ETA 5 minutes. Mothership will arrive in about half an hour, Out.

"Those drinks are going to have to wait." Muttered Thørlief, as he recieved the distress signal. "Come about!" He shouted, "Signal all ships that we're going to answer that distress call."

The ships began turning, and speeding ahead. Unfortunately, they were some distance away from the origin point of the distress signal. However, the satellite was already moving into position to provide orbital survelliance.

The prisoners, meanwhile, were being transferred to one of the Aesonic support ships that had been sent along with the fleet. There, they were each taken to one of the several interrogation rooms, and sat in a simple wooden chair, which was bolted to the floor. Their arms and legs were shackled to the chair.

"Welcome to Aesonic custody, motherless scum," said an interrogator. There were five men in his custody, a fifth of the total captured. "Let me make your position perfectly clear. As of now, you have no rights. You are pirates, caught by a legitimate naval operation. Of course, the Vetakans may have some complaints if we hand over less pirates than we captured, but then, who's to know how many of you there were?"

To demonstrate his point, he drew a knife from a sheathe and stabbed one of the pirates in the arm. The man yelled in pain. "You sustained that wound from shrapnel," explained the Aesonic interrogator. "Now, you are going to tell us everything you know. The locations of other pirate ships. Their strategies. How they think. Their numbers. Their armament. And thsoe of you that are actually helpful to us, will make it to Vetakan custody. If any of you are very helpful, we'll put some money in your pockets, and drop you off in thirst non Vetakan port we land at. Understood?"

The pirates all nodded and began to speak at once, except for the one whom had been stabbed.

Extras:

Also a special feature, not on any other D4 vessel at the moment is an integrated A.I. system, where the A.I. handles most basic and advanced technical parts of the vessel, including the process of locating, processing, acquiring and firing at enemy targets. The A.I. has a unique and individual personality, including a face and voice. It will assist in locating problems on the vessel like fire, leaks and mechanical failures, and the best course of action to solve the situation. There are many firewalls on board the ship computers and mainframe to avoid a hack. Also the computer mainframe room is a central command, where all the ships features can be commanded in an emergency. The room is air tight and sealed in a lock down sequence, that would be triggered in case of a flood, or boarding. After the A.I. locks the room the only people able to access the room would be high ranking admirals and the ships captain. The ship contains some of the worlds most sophisticated programs to counter-measure and defend against electronic warfare.

Another feature would be the separate sealing compartments to help in keeping the ship afloat if struck by an enemy weapon.

Another is the now the standard issue Battlefield Holographic Control Interface (BHCI) in all Royal Commonwealth Command structures. Which allows the commanders to evaluate the combat situation it a 3D image of the battle in the air, on the land and sea, making commanding and issuing orders much easier. 3 low altitude high-resolution satellites supply the images. And just if the first room is damaged, there is a second room with the BHCI.

And the last, but most important is the security procedures in place. Each sailor is given a card, which hold the sailors rank and authority level. Many rooms are locked, including the bridge, BHCI command room, the central command ship interface room, and more. Also .30 Caliber automated machine guns are installed in several hallways, to shoot unwanted enemy soldiers that happen to board. The ship retains a single company (80 soldiers) of marines for that little extra.
Haraki
07-01-2007, 22:07
It had been six hours since their last patrol. Currently the second flight dispatched to Bethasa Island was out on routine patrols sweeping the area around the island for pirates. There had been no engagements in the several days since they had defeated the three small pirate ships, and the main naval force was still several days away when the distress call patched in. The Bright Star under attack. A cruise ship. Worse than that, given the time frame since the call had been reached, it was all-but guaranteed that the ship would have been boarded and taken over by the time they reached it. The Harakians were not carrying a marine contingent - that was coming with the main force - and could do nothing to retake the Bright Star.

Even as Flight One was scrambling, the commander of the base, Commander Richards, was dispatching a message to all coalition forces:

All coalition forces, this is Commander Richards of the Harakian naval base on Bethasa Island. We are dispatching a flight of twelve fast fighter-bombers to assist with the strike against the pirates. These planes will prioritize destruction of the enemy helicopters first, followed by destruction of any outlying pirate ships. These planes are not equipped to board the Bright Star but will do all they can to destroy manned pirate vessels. If you discover any prioritized targets, flight lead is Lieutenant Commander Charles Wick and all new targets should be addressed to him on the Harakian radio frequency. Richards out.

The planes were in the air and burning their way north within five minutes, all twelve scrambled at the same time. They were past Mach One and still accelerating by the time the island was out of sight, and ETA to the Bright Star was likely less than from any other coalition force; under twenty minutes. Bravo Group was outfitted for air-to-air and air-to-surface combat, with two ATA missiles on each plane as well as Ranger and Hydra anti-ship missiles, while the others were outfitted primarily with ATS armaments. Charlie Group carried two missiles on the wingtips and a light torpedo underneath each plane. Although the hardpoints allowed for more, they were being used for fuel tanks and to free up weight so that the planes could fly with their heavier burden, the torpedo.

Wick cut through the dissociate radio chatter with a nice statement. "This is Flight Lead. All groups, report in."

"Able Two, all planes accounted for," Kivvey's voice answered.

"Bravo One, all planes accounted for," came a strong female voice from the second group lead.

"Charlie One, all planes ready to kick some ass," came an excited voice from their newest Group leader; promoted only a month ago, he was new and excitable.

"Roger that, Charlie One. This is Able One. All planes get ready to kick some ass. ETA is seventeen minutes from right now. I anticipate the Bright Star to be fully overtaken by pirates and for it to be firing at us. Do not return fire against the Bright Star, no matter what they shoot at you. You may inadvertently damage civilian targets and cause an international incident. Leave that to the marines from other countries. Rules of engagement are thus: Bravo Group will engage and destroy any air assets the pirates have. We have confirmed reports of two light helicopters attacking the bright Star, but those both came from one person and I would not be surprised if there were more. In the meantimes Alpha and Charlie Groups will engage surface targets. Aim cannonfire for any boats moving to board the bright Star, try and keep any more pirates off it to make it easier for the marines once they get here. Other than that, engage at will, but all planes keep one Ranger missile in reserve for if we receive emergency transmissions of targets to be taken out by allied vessels."

"Bravo One, orders confirmed."

"Charlie One, orders confirmed."

"Right then, let's kick some ass!" Wick roared, and accelerated towards the fight.

Port Hustlings Naval Yard

"Just got a phone call from Navy HQ, it's a go." Admiral was on the phone with the Captains of the ships gathered to travel to Vetaka Waters. It would be the first time any of the newly built Leo Capital Class Ships would be shooting their weapons in anger. The baptism of fire for the first ship of the class to roll out of the factory, HMDS. Leo. The Leo was also the flag ship of the operation, command center for Admiral Archie Colfer. The fleet of seven ships was extemely small to be called a fleet by Commonwealth standards, but these ships where bursting with top of the line equipment, and some of the best sailors in the world, not to mention the new A.I. program installed in the vessels. But none the less, it fleet, Fleet Privateer, was gathering just out side of the naval yards. It would be a fairly quick trip to get there. The slowest vessel was 28 knots, the HMDS. Emma Burke. Although when she was first made she could only make 19 knots or so, all ships of that class were refit with the Phoenix D-2 Reactors from D4 Industries. When ships are usually upgraded to this model of reactor, ships speed past 30 knots, the structure and shape of the HMDS. Emma Burke could not be ignored, and the fact she carries tonnes and tonnes of fleet fuel, food, and weapons.

The ship gathered into the standard RCN order and sailed off without a huge parting party at the docks. Who knew how long the ships would be gone for. HMDS. Silent was in the lead of the convoy, deep under the surface of the sea, scanning ahead for unfriendlies and such. It would be a quiet journey there, so the crews rested well, for once they arrived, it would be constant watch for pirates.

HMDS.Silent
"Pirates..." Captain Stewart Mac chuckled. "Who the hell has every heard of pirates in the modern world?" The image of a wooden frigate was nailed to the idea of a pirate in the captains mind. But ofcourse he knew better. But how does one pirate do what he does, with thermal scanners, sonar, satellites... "Crap!" Stewart jumped, "Ofcourse! How do you stay hidden from thermals and satellites? You stay off the surface! Oh boy, it could be! After the collapase of Soviet Russia and the large amount of illegal sales of older submarines like the Kilo class, pirates could hide under the surface for travel, then surface and drop off a few small boats, let them collect the money and stuff, then they return, the boat goes under again then finds a safe harbour, either in a covered cove, or in a different country. God damn!" Stewart walked to the control room and to the Sonar officer, make sure you dont over look submerged targets. It would be a smart move for the pirates to have submarines."

"Ofcourse sir, never would have done that sir."

"Exellent, XO contact the Admiral and make sure he warns everyone about a submarine threat. Could be possible. In the meantime, increase speed and put some more distance between us and the convoy. Get rid of some the the noise from our ships."

"Increaseing speed."

"And dive to 800 feet, lets test her."

"Yes sir, dive to 800."

Ernel Koringham, one of the largest black marketeers in the United Ed States was on his twenty foot yacht heading straight into what his men told him was one of the largest Vetaken pirating strongholds around. Ernel walked down the center of his several thousand dollar boat and turned to his captain. "Gregory, when will we hit Vetaken waters?", asked Ernel. The captain turned to him, "we hit Veraken water about a hour ago sir," he then took the opportunity to ask a question that has been bothering him all day, "sir, how do you propose to make a buisiness deal with the pirates before they manage to sink our ship?" Ernel looked at the captain rather foolishly. "Well... I... suppose... as I've said to the rest of the crew so many times, we'll raise a white flag and tell them our buisiness for being here. They will not dare harm us after we tell them how much money they could make, just for accepting our proposition." He smiled at the simplicity of his reply.

Ernel was wrong however. Within twenty minutes, a large vessel approached Ernel's yacht. Before Ernel's crew had a chance to raise a flag of truce, much less contact the pirate vessel, several RPG's smashed into the yacht's side. Ernel's crew was relatively weak and only carried side arms and other small arms. The entire yacht was boarded by the pirates, and soon the pirates had overtaken the entire crew and killed every last person on board, but not before the yacht had signaled an emergency SOS call to the UES as well as Vetaka.

"It has been 3 hours since the attack," said UES Prime Minister Tryoni. "And the media still hasn't picked up on it." "They will soon enough..." said Cabinet member Robert Neilson. "Alright," the Prime Minister recapped the cabinet's previous conversation, "so, when the media finally realizes what really happened out in Vetaka, we release a statement saying that the man attacked was a peaceful trader. As far as people know, Ernel was no mobster. They peobably have never heard of him like we have. We'll say he was a trader, going to a Vetakan port looking for a trade deal. On his way, he was attacked by vicious pirates and slaughtered." Neilson butted in, "yes, I suppose lying is the best way. But Prime Minister Tryoni, what of the SOS messages sent to the Vetakan government shortly before the crew was killed?" The Prime Minister pondered this and finally said, "In the mean-time we will release a statement to our people and the rest of the world stating that Ernel was really a peaceful trader, unjustly attacked. Then, we will just have to wait for the Verakans to take action. With any luck, they will believe our story, we will take action against the pirates, and the international community will not laugh at our government because we didn't take action against a known mobster sooner. All will be well." Neilson spoke again, "that is a perfect scheme, sir, except for one thing. Our sources tell us the ship carrying Ernel carried loads of money, merchandise, and who knows what else that could be used to prove Ernel was there to work out deals with the pirates, not trade with local law-biders. We must get to the ship before anyone else. Hopefully, it will be completely empty and sunk to the bottom of the ocean. If not, we'll destroy the evidence and carry on without worry again." And so plans to take back the ship began as the Prime Minister awaited Vetaka's official statement on the Ernel shipping matter...
Wirraway

Wirrawayan High Command-Rottermark

The division of intelligence sat high up on the 50th floor of the Concordat's monolithic Command and Control Center, inside its heavily guarded doors lay the very best and brightest minds that Wirraway had to offer.

While it was left to wither during the years of pacifist democracy, the Intelligence Division had bounced back quickly, its legendary past and the prestige associated with donning its jet black uniform was enough to lure back old hands as well as eager newcomers.

Inside a sterile conference room proceedings were underway concering the division's first active mission in decades. At the head of a long wooden table sat Petr Brandt, the head of the Division as well of one its living legends. Brandt had seen action and ran operations all over the world during the Concordat's glory days, but during the democratization he had resigned the service partly in protest of the cutting of its funds as well as to pursue a lucrative mercenary career. With the coup and the re-emergence of the Concordat he was located and asked to return to lead the Division he had once served so well.

Brandt looked down at his notes and then back up at the members of the operational team. Clearing his throat, he spoke in his sharp and precise manner, "I need a status update on our activities in Veteka."

The team turned to Eva Yurling a young rising star in the department, who after been assigned to the team while at the unheard of rank of junior officer, was quickly elected team leader by her impressed peers. Right now she didn't look the part of the confident wunderkind as she nervously began to speak.

"Well it seems that our trainees got a little overzealous. In spite of the specific instructions that we gave them to keep a low profile until we had time to bring in the more advanced weaponry, they have attacked a number of civillian ships and in the process drawn the attention of both the Vetakian navy and number of outside naval units.”

Brandt glared at her iciliy, "well," he quietly said,"looks like you fucked up big time."

Brandt rose from his seat and began to pace, his arms clasped behind his back.

"Goddamit, Godfucking Dammit Eva what the hell were you thinking, I don't need a status report on this operation I could just turn on the news and hear about how our training program spawned these goddamn modern pirates in Vetakia. I want this operation ceased immediately, destroy all documents related to its existence and detain anyone who knows something about it that is not in this room."

The team shifted uncomfortably under Brandt's tirade as he walked over the Eva and leaned on the table beside her.

Eva turned and stammered out, “Th-th-there’s something else sir.”

“and whats that” replied Brandt.

Eva looked to her team members nervously before continuing

“ It was a negotiating decision sir, they demanded a unit refused to cooperate further or take orders until we gave them one. We had one on board so gave it to them as a goodwill gesture. At that point they were still considered auxilliary members of the navy. I thought I could trust them. I take full responsibility."

"You thought you could trust them? I dunno its not everyday I give a TACTICAL NUCLEAR WEAPON to a bunch of lowlife corrupt sailors. And this nuke must have our name written all over it? Anything else you want to add? Perhaps you also gave them a frigging battleship flying our flag to go kill civilians in." Brandt, straightened and looked at the rest of the team members.

"Now listen, this fuckup cannot. I repeat, cannot jeopardize the entire operation. We are trying to create a force to fight a naval guerilla war, not a band of pirates. I'm taking Eva off this operation, so elect a new leader. I want some new locations for recruitment as well as action plans on my desk to contain this situation."

Brandt pointed to Eva, "the last duty you will fulfill on this operation is finding out a way to show that this nuke was, "lost" before the incident. Do that and I might even let you stay in the Division."

Deep in the West Lake Casa Militar's communications heart there were 50 communications and sensors specialists staring at video screens. The hunt was on. A geopositional topographic and near surface sensor satalite hummed away high in space, well LEO/MEO. 50 analysts busily looked at photos of every dock or natural harbour along the coast, that was the intent anyway. The analyitical substance analysis systems on the satalite and the software on the ground used tested algorythms to determine any coastal areas which could be used as harbour, both along the near coast and any nearby coastal areas.

The computer would return the information to the humans whenever a positive then it would be flagged, and sent to ESI to determine what the area was used for. Send agents as required and gather information from the local authorities, as well as by time sensitive surviellance via the satalite when it was free from other duties.

Intelligence was to be analyzed on the potential ports, ships entering and leaving them so that likely potential areas could be found and thus followup coverage.

A small seapack including 4 spear class and one Levithan cargo and troop transport was assigned, the Empire couldn't legitimize diverting an entire fleet. Even now the taskforce was on standby dispatched for the nearest friendly harbour. Orders were implicit from the command "No Dian ship is to enter the area without express approval of the seahounds and gulls already active in the area. A request was put in for permission to land one air wing and an air transport, with SOF, in the area to pursue leads; and on approval of the domestic command to support related domestic operations. A variety of equipment was allocated, but no toes were going to be steped on in this limited international trade issue & goodwill operation.

ESSI operatives disguised as Reporters were also dipatched with reporting equipment and qualficationss to get a non military face take on the pirates etc.. in various coastal areas to act as humanint focused on anyone that seemed to potentially being the one to supply the pirates. Blackmarket and foreign ship yards and second hand sales. The backdrop was also espionage of a friendlier kind

The bulk was in the satalite data and intelligence on shipping sales at this point, no glory, but no gorry.

Messages were sent out to suggest a JTF command to reduce like operations friendly fire and duplication of focus areas. ICCD invited secure ISDN command conferencing as well as offering to loan any operational partners applicable equipment for conferencing via satcomm linked secure ISDN. Through whatever channels existed including open channel paging in areas a response contact was possible, as well as more traditional methods.

Onboard the HMDS. Leo

A woman's body and voice seems to relax the males mind, hence the idea to have the HMDS. Leo's A.I take the shape of a female, Diana. She wore the standard Royal Commonwealth Navy Officer dress uniform, black with the female skirt option. It was the Admiral's choice, because the moment Captain John Rigg got back sole control of his ship, and the Admiral back in Delesa, Diana was going with him, and would be replaced by the original ship's A.I, Ares, a fearsome warrior in anciet greek armour. Rigg's favorite. But Diana was nice enough, but Rigg's enjoyed Ares' personality, kinda reminded it of himself. "Diana, hows the convoy doing?"

"Fine Captain." As the A.I image spawned ontop the bridges A.I hologram generator. "But the HMDS. Silent has moved further ahead, and droped to 738 feet and droping."

"Sonar confirm." The Captain some times from time to time double checked the A.I's readings.

"She's right sir."

"Purpose?"

"Unknown Captain. I have checked the ships logs, and there seems to be no mechanical failure."

"Then what the hell is he doing?"

"Well sir, could be just testing the crew and boat."

"Yes..."

"Oh and sir, failed to mention, as it got put off due to the reactor check-up, message from the Silent reports that the captain has a hunch that the pirates might be operating with submarines, to hide from satellite images, quite brilliant, can't believe I didn't process that ealier. And mentions to warn all the ships of a possible submarine contact."

"Well then, forward to the others and see of you can get the Emma Burke to pick up speed to 31 knots, if not try 30. And change course to 048 degree. Relay that order to everyone."

"Aye Captain, already started."

"Exellent."

A spokesman appeared in the room and moved towards the stand at the front which was directly in front of Vetaka's Flag. The Spokesperson cleared her throat and began to speak:

"Good Morning Ladies and Gentleman"

"I hope your all well. Before I begin The VDF would like to confirm the unconfirmed reports that Ernel Koringham a leading shipping operator in the region has been killed by a pirate attack. Official Clandonian Response

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v338/madnukedude/clandoniansmallflag.png

Today we can confirm that a Clandonian Imperium Oil super-tanker was attacked in Vetakan waters. In the action the crew were taken hostage and killed after trying to fight back, killing three pirates and the vessel was skuttled.

Due to this action the Clandonian Imperiun Oil Corporation has requested that the government who has a commitment to defend Clandonian assets world wide to deploy naval assets. Other global commitments mean an entire naval fleet can not be sent but we will be dispatching several destroyers. We would offer more to the Vetakanians but the war against EVIL means our fleets are preoccupied on operations.

President Sir. Victor Hughes

President and Commander in Chief of The Heavily Armed Empire
Haraki
08-01-2007, 22:38
The twelve Harakian planes were nearing the base now, in high spirits all. One in Bravo Group had taken light damage to the left wing from a rail-mounted machine gun, but the pirates had lacked effective anti-air armament once the helicopters were taken down, within seconds of the pirates being aware of the Harakians' presence.

"That's two more ships to paint on the side of my cockpit," Wick's voice crackled over the radio. "We might run out of paint by the time this is done."

"Bullshit. That second kill was my Hydra, you just can't accept it."

"It was sinking too slow, Joe. Doesn't count. My Ranger just finished the job off."

"Bull fucking shit."

"Don't cry, Able Two, you still get two kills to add to your tally," came the sensible voice of Able Three.

"Should be three, and I should be silencing this braggart with my tales of three kills to his one."

"It's a shame the Vetakan Navy showed up when they did. Just when I was starting to have some fun," Wick complained.

"You think you've got it bad, Flight Lead? I took out one with a torpedo and one with a Hydra, and I was about to score a third when the Vetakans took it out with battleship shells. Fucking pissed me off. I should be outscoring you all by now."

"Shut up, Charlie One," Wick replied effortlessly. Dismissing Charlie One's complaints had become commonplace by now. "I bet next you'll be telling me you strafed five boats and those should add up to a ship."

"How'd you know?" Charlie Two cut in. Wick couldn't see, but he knew she was grinning. "He was complaining to me about that in a private channel.

"Shut up, Anne. You'd do the same thing," Charlie One muttered.

"All right, cut the chatter and listen for air traffic controller orders, boys and girls," Kivvey said over the communicator. "What's the word, ATC?"

"Runway is clear for landing. Able Group, begin your approach now."

The landings were flawless and the planes taxied away for refueling and rearming. Wick and Kivvey made their way up to meet Commander Kyle Richards, captain of the HNS Frederick and commander of overall naval forces at the base. Wick barged into his office, without even bothering to knock. he was grinning broadly. He knew he was the star, and he didn't care what others thought. Kivvey followed behind, taller than his boisterous friend and quieter. He respected authority more than his commander and wingman, and didn't understand how Wick had been promoted faster than him. "Commander," Wick almost shouted.

"What can I do for you?" Richards growled, looking up from writing a report on supply status at the base for future supply convoys, to ensure maximum armament potential for potential air deployment in future convoys.

"You can find me some more bad guys to kill. These pirates are small time. Don't they have anything bigger than fishing boats with guns on them? One missile and these things sink."

Richards sighed, closed his reports, and laid his pen down. He sipped from a cup of tea beside him and flipped open a folder in front of him. "We're getting reports of some scattered larger ships, not flying any recognizable flag and not designated on our IFF registry. We're guessing converted trawlers and bulk freighters, some up to three hundred metres long, not to mention the distinct possibility of Vetakan naval forces that may have defected from the military during the civil war. Satellite reports are sketchy because we don't have any dedicated ORBSATs on surveillance for this mission, so we're down to hijacking the feed whenever we notice one nearby, and combined with fairly solid cloud cover over major parts of the ocean we just get scattered reports of the pirates' movements and ship classes, but we're estimating your next engagement won't be simple. It's highly likely you'll be dealing with stripped and refitted naval weaponry from crippled or scrapped Vetakan ships left over from the civil war. Ships with real CIWS, maybe missile launchers and torpedo nets, big guns capable of sinking ships for real instead of just launching RPGs at them and boarding to kill the crew. If I were you, I wouldn't be so cocky, Lieutenant Commander." He emphasized the last two words, making it clear that despite Wick's attitude he was still his commanding officer.

Wick grinned once again. "It's how I deal with stress, sir."

"It's still god damn annoying, Wick," Richards said, exasperated.

"Yes, sir," Wick replied enthusiastically.

Richards sighed. "I want your flight ready to go up again in an hour, just in case. Bennett's taskforce is expected within three days, they're making good time through unpopulated shipping lanes, and then we'll have enough supplies and ships to run some real hunting operations and I'll get to take the Frederick out for a spin. I expect we'll be having the Taurus engaging any enemy destroyers of heavily armed ships we encounter, so you boys should be ready to provide air cover for a mission of that size once they arrive. Until then, continue alternating patrols with Flight Two, and be ready for instant scrambling if we receive a distress call. Dismissed." As the two men turned to leave, he called out once more. "Oh, and Lieutenant Kivvey-"

"Sir?"

"Try not to get the two of you killed out there. It may sound clichéd, but the last thing I need is my two best pilots getting killed because Lieutenant Commander Wick here did something ourageously stupid."

"Yes, sir."

With that, the two pilots turned on their heels and were gone. Richards sighed and flipped open his paperwork again.

Pirate Ship, Docked in Pirate Base disguised as a cave, Northwest Coast Big V Island:

As Bill Strampland relaxed on the bridge planning his next move. His campaign of robbery had become hampered by the sodding VDF, its coaliton supporters and the the fucking tit of a President. By nationality Bill was english and had only come to Vetaka because of the lack of the Rule of Law had made those with the balls very rich now the Civil War was over and the authorities where able to fight those like bill who robbed and traded in the less legal goods of Drugs and Weapons.

The door swung open and Bill's First Mate Dickie appeared followed by a hooded figure. Bill stared at them both awaiting a conversation when it didnt come Bill said in a stern voice:

"Well..."

Dickie spoke:

"Bill this gentleman has a propisition for you. He will pay you 50 Million, me 25 Million and each man under you 1 million if we work for him."

Bill puzzled looked the man up and down and then spoke:

"Well first of all Who the Fuck are you?"
"and Secondly What kind of fucking work is this then?"

Dickie was about to speak when the man throws his hood off and speaks quite proudly in a proudly British Accent:

"I am Govenor-General James Swan II. British Govenor of Vetaka and the work is simple you will be my personal vessal and crew"

Bill amazed at what he just heard immediatly thought was impossible he had heard the story this guy was dead. President Pearce had shot him in the palace. Bill spoke on:

"How the hell? Your Dead you Died Pearce killed you."

Swan: "No Im very much alive the president shot my look a like one last security feature I had Do we have a deal?"

Bill: "Yes we do for 50 Million I can retire?"

Swan: Excellent go to bed ill brief you in the morning.

Bill: "You heard him dickie put the boys to bed tell them their is 5 million on this job."

With that Dickie was gone and bill poured swan a vodka.

Prime Minister Tryoni looked at the headlines of The Ed States' Daily, a prominent and popular newspaper in the UES. It read, "ERNEL KORINGHAM: BRAVE AND DARING BUISNESSMAN, CUT DOWN BY VICIOUS VERAKAN PIRATES!" Tryoni read the accompanying article, describing Ernel as a brave trader, slaughtered by barbaric pirates. "Ha!," he laughed to himself. So, the media made Ernel a national hero, eh?, he thought to himself. And the Verakans found no illegal cargo, just bodies. This works perfectly. With the ship sunk to the bottom of the ocean, and the Verakans and the rest of the world left to think of this event as nothing more than a unfortunate disaster, the government "cover-up" had worked perfectly. He sighed in relief at his success. He then fingered through some other newspapers. All contained similar headlines and almost identical articles, each making Ernel out to be hero hero more and more. Finally, however, Tryoni got to one newspaper, The Informer, a newspaper just as popular as The Ed States' Daily, if not more so. To his horror, the headline read, "KORINGHAM KILLED! DOES THIS MEAN WAR FOR THE UES?" The Prime Minister glared. This was exactly what he had hoped would not happen. A call for war meant war against the pirates. But he would have to make the best out of it... Maybe, he thought, just maybe I could end the people's "call for revenge" with one fast and quick, yet effective strike, just 'till our people get their fill... then pull out of Verak.

"HAWKEYE this is FFDelta Hawkeye Copy?"

"Hawkeye here go ahead Delta"

"Hawkeye we have discovered a compound facility with a port facility its not on our maps and looks deserted we only came across it as it seems a small fire has destroyed part of the forest hiding the facility. The Facility consists of a Cave and surface Facility orignally hidden by a Forest."

"FFDelta transfer location, use camera pod to photograph facility send to VDFCC database and RTB"

VDFCC, Command Room, Theeb City:

The door opened and VDF Supreme Cmd Stone sweeped into the room. The High Command was already in the room and awaited his arrival. The phone call Stone had got was vague all it said was that a Fighter Patrol had discovered a Possible Pirate Facility. He took his seat and said rather sternly:

"The President is inbound we I need a Status Report"

SIS Commander Barrett began:

"At approximatly 12:45 a one of our fighter patrols on the Volcanic Big V island discovered an opening in the forest that revealed what looks like a port facility it certainly from the pictures looks that way." (Motioning towards the pictures)

"Big V island is strictly off limits to civilans and shipping in the area is restricted due to the very unpredictable and Large Active Volcano Big V the terrain is mostly forest and dense. The port facilty we belive was constructed by Swans Movement during the civil war. The pirates must of discovered the base and began using it. After all it is a good base for a pirate."

Stone looked through the report in front of him and at the radar and pictures on the various screens and then spoke:

"Hmmm Ok Deploy a team of scouts to observe for 24 Hours and note any movement. Send a force of ships and planes land on the island a day later and investigate the facility. Alert the coalition and see if you can get some sat pictures of the area.

Stone walked into the Isolated Ready Room a small sound proof room with a Desk Two Chairs, Phone and Computer. It was where the Commander or President could speak privately with certain people, Relax close to the situation or make Private calls. He picked up the phone and dialled. He was calling the President. Whom answered and Stone Updated.

A dispatch was sent from Dian Military Intelligence Circles to the Vetaka military

ICCD in extensively researching the current piracy issues around Vetaka has compiled an action for resolving the situation. The plan is outlined in point form

Phase 1 -

DIVISION A - Dispatch to the 46 most likely locations of potential piracy of scouting UAVs and USVs to investigate the areas for information or potential suspect activity. This can be cross referanced against any 'secret' projects Vetaka may be participating in that may explain some of the activity. Support by our subs equiped for Special Operations can be sent if there is any confirmation by drone,

DIVISION B - Salvage operations on all known sunk vessels to search for any evidence or leads. Once again our small task force is equiped with salvage equipment and can start to undertake investigation as soon as the coordinates are given.

Division C - 30 Prop Merchant marine ships, carrying sensor systems have been diverted, these ships are controlled by satalite /gps mappings. These decoy ships are to be used as an attempt to ferret out activity. So that if an attack does occur then the area can be zoomed in on and satalite tracking can then trace any ships. These ships are also equiped with sonar and EM band monitors, so they should augment this some what. These ships are being transported with mobile bouys (300 such bouys) These bouys in addition to monitoring sonar also will monitor Video/Audio EM Band and sea and local weather conditions. The idea is to deploy these bouys randomly on searoutes, so that shipping is monitored showing any unregistered shipping activities. In addition to this they can be used as a warning system to ships in an area where there is acivity ongoing, as well as flag ships for information, in addition to a number of other acitities. These bouys in addition to being deployed along major shipping lanes, can also be deployed around likely trouble areas or potential ports.

DIVISION D - All ports of call are to have an undercover register. The register will record all ships in port and record against the legitimate shipping records. These officers are also to have look forward technologies to determine what cargo or hidden equipment the ships may have. To a certain extent.

DIVISION E = Supplying free weapons and communications systems to various ships as well as assigning military personnel to all ships, like air marshalls, only sea marshalls. If there are any distresses, then satalite can then be used to track the occurance, even if successful, the vessels should be able to be tracked.

Air crew will be stationed within flight range of the coast once approval is granted, including seal trained personnel. These in addition to supporting any anti piracy actions will also be used to gather human int on the suspected acitivites areas.

"No response what so ever?" Asked Admiral Churchill.

"I'm afraid so, Admiral." The Queen said. "And under law we can not mobolize into foreign waters unless we have their approval or answering a call from our allies, or if we become apart of the situation. As we are none of the above we can not mobolize"

Lone Vessel, Nationality Aqua Anuien

It was a small sailboat, that had been traveling around the seas. oboard two young newlyweds on their getaway for their wedding. One an Aqua Anuien the other a Kanamian. What should be a passionate getaway has been a disaterous trip. Frequently plaged by bad weather and faulty equipment. The ship had just come out of another bad storm and was sitting idel in the waters.

Roberto was trying to fix the damaged sails, while he let his wife Aya rest. Aya emerged from bellow deck and wrapped her arms around him. She was deeply frightend by the fact they were constantly getting lost and caught in bad storms. "Where are we now?" She asked solemnly.

"Near as I can tell, here, close to Vetaka."

Aya had a glimmer of hope. "Maybe we can dock up there. I know our compass if broken and so is our radio but they may be understanding and let us stop there w/o a passport."

"I don't know. Before we lost radio I think I heard a broadcast warning of piracy in this area."

"Piracy?"

"Aya, your from the country, you don't understand what it's like with sea life. Pirates are all to real in this day and age."

"We're 19 and broke we don't have a thing to offer to them. Please Roberto."

It went against his better judgment but he could tell his wife was frightend and he wanted to ease her fears. "All right." He said. "It's due north of our current position so once starlight comes, we'll be able to follow the north star."

And the odds of being struck by pirates were pretty low. Most pirates targeted big vessels such as cruise ships. Fortunatley the sky was clear the should be abel to sail north by star light.

OOC: Vetaka, I was going to try and show that the pirates were originally smugglers and lowlifes who the Concordat was trying to make into a sort of guerilla naval force to be used in the future. Wirrawayan Command and Control-Rottermark

Brandt looked at the sheet of paper iEva Yurling had placed on his desk. It was a standard incident log reporting the loss of a tactical nuclear weapon from a battle cruiser 2 weeks before the piracy had begun. Below it were the disciplinary actions taken against the captain and crew. Not very fair to them, but neccesary to preserve the ruse. Brandt smiled grimly and then over to the standing Yurling.

"All right, looks like you managed to do something useful for this operation so I'll give you a little more leeway to fix this clusterfuck. I want you to find out a way to destroy this nuke and close out this little clusterfuck for good."

"Yes, yes sir, we're tracking it right now. They seem to be about 40 miles off the Vetakain coast in what looks to be a submarine, judging be the depth readings we're getting."

Brandt nodded and spole, "ahhhh, well isn't that interesting. How the hell did those suckers get submarines? No matter, I just hope they haven't figured out how to fix it to a torpedo or those allied fleets could be in for a nasty surprise. Of course, if that happens then we have no worries, the evidence is gone. However, I don't want to take a chance. Dispatch one of our Subs to area and take it out."

"the Navy won't like that sir" replied Yurling

"Screw the Navy, I want this taken care of."

Vetakian Waters-50 Miles off the Coast

A lone Kilo class cut silently through the water, its batteries providing it with a nearly silent mode of propulsion. Trailing its towed arrays it made out the sounds of battle about 60 NM to the NorthWest. The sonar operator turned to the captain and relayed the information.

"Very good" he gruffly replied and strode back towards the torpedo room.

Inside was a hive of activity as men swarmed around a headless torpedo struggling to insert a silvery cone into its place.

"Hows it coming?" asked the captain

"Decently. We're gonna need another two hours or so but things seem to working out, the torpedo and warhead match" replied the chief engineer as he wiped the sweat from his forehead.

The captain nodded, "Good. Keep it up, our target is nearby.

The Kilo slowed to steerage and simply listened. It had plenty of battery power left and wouldn't need to snorkel for another few hours. More than enough time to finish the preparations.

Pearce sat at the table eating his breakfast reading a report from ICCD and their Intelligence Force outlining a plan to deal with the pirates he found it made sense but he wanted his second in commands view on it. At that moment Stone entered and sat down:

"Sorry Im late their was a bit of a problem at VDFCC nothing to worry about tho"

Pearce: "Splendid Stone usual?

Stone: "Yes please sir"

Pearce: Nodded at a waiter and carried on speaking "We got this last sent last night have a read and see what you think?" sliding the Dian report to stone.

Stone began reading the report some 30 minutes passed before he spoke:

"Sounds good. Are we doing any secret projects at any one of these locations?

"Nope not that I know of Stone so you think its a go? Pearce replied.

"Yes shall I send a reply Sir?"- Stone said finishing his toast.

"Yes make it happen stone".

"Yes Sir I better get moving" replied stone gathering himself.

"Of Course assemble the staff I want a HC meeting and a general situation report at VDFCC this evening say 19:00" Pearce instructed.

"Yes Sir"- Stone replied.

The two gentleman said their good-byes and stone left the room. Pearce walked into his study and sat down to work somthing in a tray caught his eye it was intel report from VDFSIS marked "not possible" and signed by SISCCU Commander Barret. He got these all the time it was standard Vetakan Practice. He usually just signed them and had them filled however the one in front of him had a title that caught his eye. It read:

"Intelligence to suggest that Govenor-General James Swan II is still alive and the person President Pearce shot was not Swan but a double. Swan is still alive and plotting revenge"

This report was well read it had alot of notes and dogged ends he opened at began to read the 75 page report.

HMS Port Royal

Under a moonlit night sky, the sharp clipper bow of the Port Royal sliced through the calm waters, black and still beneath the white ripples of the moon’s mirror image. Along the length of the ship, men and women stood, shoving unnecessary materials into storage boxes to clear the decks of debris. In charge of them all, above the forward two turrets on the bridge, a sharp featured man let his eyes peer into the night looking for any disturbance, any irregularity. Fortunately he saw nothing but dark silhouettes—the mysterious masses the body of Commodore William Pendleton’s small patrol squadron that had been dispatched to assist the Vetakan government in eliminating piracy.

His small force had set sail from HMNB Avinapolis several days before; his flagship Port Royal, a light carrier, and several escorting ships—ships that would bear the brunt of intercepting any small, fast, and highly agile boats. If the pirates revealed themselves to be operating with larger warships, Pendleton’s cruiser and carrier would provide heavier firepower.

In the distance, from one of the dark, almost formless shapes, a small bright light rose into the evening sky, and as it rolled away in front of the white disc hanging so delicately in the sky, a black triangle sliced into the shape before disappearing into the starry sky. Soon after, another shape did the same and then a more cross-like shape. Pendleton watched it all until the hatch swung open, a lieutenant walking out and handing the commodore a folded piece of paper.

“First reconnaissance flight is aloft, sir.”

“Very well, Lieutenant.” Pendleton took the paper and looked at the specifics, two multirole fighters and a reconnaissance drone would make a sweep of the waters ahead of his patrol squadron. Updates from the Admiralty and the Office of Royal Navy Intelligence indicated that significant forces operating in the support of the Vetakan government would be in the immediate area—including those of one of the United Kingdom’s friend and ally, Delesa.

After some time, Pendleton returned to the nerve centre of his squadron where, upon a low-lit display table, he watched the movements of the squadron and now its aerial assets. As the reconnaissance drone flew ever further from the squadron, more and more elements of native fishing trawlers and other civilians vessels at sea off the coast.

Pendleton then waved for his deputy, a woman in her forties with auburn hair tucked neatly underneath her cap. “Get in touch with the Delesians, at the very least we can coordinate our efforts with one ally and make more use of the disparate forces out here.”

Amongst all the participatory nations in the theatre, the only nation with whom the United Kingdom had any training and cooperation was Delesa—and it was that cooperation on which Pendleton wanted to capitalise. His force was slightly larger than the Delesians—but whereas Pendleton’s flag flew atop a cruiser the Delesian commander flew his aboard a dreadnought, a ship that would be quite useful if the pirates did indeed have more than just coastal raiders.

From: Commander-in-Chief, His Majesty’s Vetakan Patrol Squadron

Having recently arrived in theatre, I should like the opportunity to introduce myself and announce to you the presence of Royal Navy warships. Given the history between our two nations, I look forward to operating with our brothers at sea and as such invite you and your staff aboard my flagship Port Royal.

The occasion shall also allow your staff and mine to coordinate operations and share intelligence resources to better utilise the forces at our disposal. There is no doubt that the situation we find ourselves is fraught with potential peril and that our forces shall be better off working together than working apart.

General Naval Patrol/ VDFN Destroyer Interceptor/ Pre-Set Patrol Course:

The besides the Flagship White Phoenix the Interceptor was the pride of the Vetakan Navy she was the fastest combat ship within the fleet with a top speed of 50knots. She was commanded by Katie Contna a fine sailor whom was until recently in command of the merchant fleet. At the age of 29 she had been sailoring since she was 9 and joined the Navy at 16 she had a wealth of experience. She was the only women on the ship and she was the most respected.

As she entered the bridge her XO shouted:

"Captain on the Bridge"

A few of the staff on the bridge straightend up and made sure everything was in order.

"Update Please"- Katie said sharply.

"Nothing to report ma'rm besides legal traffic its most uneventful" her XO replied.

Katie was about to respond when everything descended into the chaos the Sonar Operator suddenly hit his alarm and shoulded......

"Missile... Missile Inbound no visible fire orign. Course 048"

"RED ALERT.... BATTLESTATIONS. Helm hard to starboud full power. Comms alert Command and give them our position" Katie Shouted.

"Missile Missed. 1 Sub detected its turning away at full speed" Sonar Shouted.

"Helm. Intercept course. Bring online Anti-Sub Weaponary XO Sink it"

"Ma'am" Replied the XO.

"Captain. 4 Vessels and 1 high speed aircraft inbound high-speed attack formation

"Re-inforcements?" The XO said slowly.

"Not possible we where 10 minutes to nearest friendly. Comms Anything?

"No Captain"

"High Speed Missile fired form the Lead Vessel Helm Evade Evade..." Shouted the Radar Operator.

The explosion was deafening it threw a few staff to their knees.

"Wrong Fucking Day to prick me about. RETURN FIRE. Comms I want the Phoenix and F-16's here now."

Their was another explosion this one must of hit the bridge as much of the staff where thrown over and injured computers fused and exploded. Katie walked to the comms and checked the officer he was dead. She hit the big fat distress signal button which would send alarms ringing at HQ. The Helmsman reported that they where slowing. She contacted engines but their was no response.

Then the door opened and a man not in naval uniform entered followed by others they shot the XO and aimed at the captain she knew he was a pirate. She raised her arms and the crew raised theirs. A man entered and ordered the crew out Katie remained she waited slowly and eventually he spoke:

"I make this simple I need your armoury and the missiles I want the codes. Hand them over and you will Live and my cock will have to meet my hand. Refuse and my cock meets your hole and you will die. You have 1 Minute?"

50 Miles off the Vetakan Coast

The noise generated by a ship moving at close the 50 knots was unmistakable and did not go unheard by the lurking Kilo class.

Once again the sonar operator called the captain,

"Looks like the Interceptor has arrived sir, bearing about 40 NM to the North. I've also picked up a carrier traveling just over 60 NM to our southeast, looks like she's got some escorts too. By their blade count they have to be an Azazian formation"

The captain nodded and furrowed his brow

"the Interceptor has to be ours by now, but just to be sure enter her bearings into the fire control system. If we don't hear from her in the next 20 minutes I'm blowing it out of the water. I also want that carrier tracked, we can't let her intervene. Sound to general quarters."

The lights on the sub turned red as the sound of rushing feet filled the air. 30 secons later the Kilo was ready to fight.

The captain began to leave, but then turned back to the sonar man

"I want you to let me know the second you hear the White Phoenix"

The WNS Falkhead SSN executed a slow a turn to the southwest as she cruised at a depth of 1,000 ft towards Vetaka and the glowing symbol of the tracking device implanted in the nuclear warhead.

"The 4th Tactical Carrier Strike Group arrived in Vetakan waters today. Almost immediatly, several flights of reconnissance aircraft and attack jets were sent out to survey the waters in which the 4th TCSG may have to spend the next few months. To the dissapointment of the pilots and naval troops, however, no pirating vessels have been found yet. It looks like revenge may have to wait another day." Tryoni smiled. All was going well. His aircraft were equipped with multi-thousand dollar equipment and missiles, and no pirating ship would stand a chance if they did infact encounter one. This will be an easy sweep, he thought.

HMDS. Leo
The bridge of the HMDS. Leo only light came from that of the green screens that updated the crew with new information every second. But there was a small amber red speck just outside the doors of the bridge. Admiral Archie Colfer always enjoyed a good smoke from grandfathers old tabacco pipe, mixed with the fresh sea air, blowing past him, tossing his salt and pepper hair in the breeze. He just starred out into the dark, just barely able to pick out his small feet as they blended with the water. He thought about back home on his ranch in the province of Juno, just over looking the coast to the east, his wife, and his old faithful dog, Rudy. But all that peace and quiet was thrown to hell as the Captain of the ship opened the door, peeking his head out.

"Hey Arch, you might want to come in here, we have some stuff going on." Arch, no one but close friends called him that, ofcourse Captain Rigg was a friend. He tapped his pipe on the metal railing, sending the contents to the sea, placed the pipe in his jacket pocket and steped inside.

"So what do we have." The Admiral asking no one in general. Dianna, the ship's A.I. spoke up.

"Sir, we have a message from a Patrol Squadron from the UK. Addressed to the C.O. which is you. I have sent it to your computer in your quarters."

"Thank you, and I presume there is more?"

"Yes Admiral. The HMDS. Silent has run into enemy contacts."

"Contacts? How many?"

"Two so far. They have been confirmed by my data bases to be Ex-Russian Kilo Class SSK submarines. Newer models. The HMDS. Silent has disabled one, it should be showing up on sonar in 9 minutes."

"Dianna, let's spit all of it out at once please."

"Sorry sir, yes sir. The second submarine still remains a large threat, the HMDS. Silent has yet to sink or disable it. Before you ask, they are 16 minutes out, on our present course. I have taken the liberty to increase the convoy's speed."

"Now your getting the hang of it. Keep use heading towards them alright Dianna? In the meantime, send a Seaking to the first Kilo, and send on to assist the Silent as well."

"Right away sir." Dianna disapeared from here station, leaving to send the orders for the seaking helicopters. The Admiral turned and faced Captain Rigg sitting in the captains command chair. He worn a large grin.

"What?" asked Archie.

"Seems you still have a little in you yet."

"Ofcourse I do, more then some people I know." They both chuckled, seeming not to be worrying about their comrades in the Silent, but truth was they were both worried. But there was nothing to do now that the helicopters were sent on their way. The Admiral left the bridge and walked down the halls. He had intellegence from Naval HQ that he might encounter the Royal Navy here on this operation. He swiped his Navy ID in his door, and opened it up stepping inside, he shut his door quietly as he then sat down at his computer. The message already open to read. He zipped through it and started to type away.

VDFCC/ Command Room/ Theeb:

Stone was the watch officer on duty at Central Command when the Interceptor incident had occurred. He immediatly ordered the White Phoenix and 2 Other Destroyers to the area. He also scrambled a total 6 F-16s to intercept the ship. These F-16s had orders to attack the interceptor itself if the vessel had been overan by pirates.

"Falcon 1 this is Stone are you clear on the Mission Objectives?" Stone asked.

"Falcon 1 Roger That Sir" came a reply.

"Falcon 1 Begin the mission" Ordered Stone.

For the first time in his career he was actually scared. He and Katie had once been romantically involved and had only split up because of the Civil War. He looked at the radar screen again. He motioned towards comms whom opened up the Mic:

"Interceptor This is Command Do you Copy?"

No Response

"Interceptor this is VDFCC Please Respond?" Stone Spoke.

Still No Response....

He turned to the radar operator: "Is she still their and when will the re-inforcements arrive"

"9 Minutes till contact with the fleet and 3 Minutes till Contact with the Fighters" the Radar Operator replied.

“This just came from the Delesian command.”

Pendleton turned and took a piece of paper from his staff intelligence officer. “Thank you, Commander,” he replied while his eyes darted back and forth across the type. Apparently, the pirates were equipped with more than just fast boats but with silent submarines. His reply to his Delesian counterpart would wait.

“Signal the squadron that we are operating in an environment believed to include hostile submarines. Bring all ships to action stations and have the frigate screens disperse for ASW operations.”

Within minutes, helicopters onboard the low-lit flight decks began to spin up their rotors, while munitions crews hurriedly attached torpedoes and sensors. Further out from the carrier and the cruiser, the squadron’s destroyers and frigates began to deploy their own helicopters in sequence—allowing the squadron to retain 24-hour coverage—while the outermost frigates went silent with all unnecessary noises ceased. Their electric drives letting the ships sprint and then drift, listening for anything and everything that might betray the submarines.

For his part, Pendleton settled down and began to peer over the scant few reports he had on the seabed’s elevation and relief. After a few more minutes, he watched the ship’s captain walk over. “What can I do for you, Captain?”

“Sir, it is about the hunt for these bloody submarines. The Vetakans apparently have a ship operating within range of our passive sonar systems—

“As they should, Captain, these are their waters after all.”

“Indeed, sir, however, the ship in question is fussing about at some fifty knots.”

Pendleton shook his head. “At that speed I think they could run over my son’s rock band and not hear a bloody thing. How much is it impacting our screening?”

“A good bit, sir. However, the frigates Dagger and Stiletto dropping passive systems below the layer, but your staff could likely keep you more informed about those operations then myself. Thus far, the Port Royal is reporting action stations manned and ready. We are still reporting problems with B Turret’s No. 2 gun but for ASW work I do not see it as a significant problem.”

“Very good, Captain, carry on.” Pendleton waved for his deputy to return. “See to it that the Delesians receive real-time updates as to our tactical situation and request that we receive the same in return. With so many damn ships about in such a relatively confined area, I daresay that any submerged contact could very well be belonging to an allied force. Then, if you please, request that the Vetakan ship slow down; this is no damned race and I would rather hear an enemy submarine than that ship’s damned engine plant.”

Communication

To: Commander, Vetakan Ship Interceptor
From: Commander-in-Chief, His Majesty’s Vetakan Patrol Squadron

At this moment, elements of the anti-piracy forces patrolling Vetakan waters are in contact with submarines, presumed hostile to allied forces. Submarines believed to be operating in area near the Interceptor. Request your ship slow, His Majesty’s Royal Navy commends you on your speed achievements but in the presence of enemy submarines such speed is, on the balance, detrimental to anti-submarine operations.

Sincerely,

Commodore William Pendleton

Encrypted Communication

To: Admiral Colfer, Commanding Officer Task Force Vetaka
From: Commander-in-Chief, His Majesty’s Vetakan Patrol Squadron

I thank you for your forthwith response, Admiral, and am equally interested in further demonstrating the cooperation well-known between our respective fleets. Having received the supplementary information regarding the presence of possible submarine contacts, contacts I presume hostile, attached are the requisite technical details necessary for exchanging real-time information between our two commands.

It is only a matter of time before a Kilo class submarine must return to the surface; at this moment, I have ordered reconnaissance UAVs into the air along with ASW helicopters. The two will be listening with passive sonar for the submarines while also scanning the surface with their high-resolution LADAR sensors to detect any snorkeling apparatus.

Unfortunately, until any submerged contacts are successfully prosecuted to a satisfactory result, I feel obliged to remain onboard the Port Royal to conduct operations.

Much regards,

40 NM off the Vetakan Coast

The sound was unmistakable and it only brought bad news.

The captain took the proffered headphones and listened

"your right my boy, gotta be helos. That Azazian formation must have launched them. They'll complicate things a bit. Wait, where are those destroyers, I only hear a carrier."

He shrugged his shoulders.

"Must be running on batteries, or they're simply not moving."

He turned to the sonarman
"Keep an eye on that group. Let me know if anything changes."

With that he turned and climbed down a ladder into the engineering bay

"How much juice do we have left" he yelled down to his Chief Engineer

After a moment the reply came back

"A little over 3 hours and we'll have to snorkle"

The captain nodded and climbed up a ladder into the central control room

"Any response from the Rapacious?"

The Comm tech shook his head

"Then we'll have to regard her as sunk. There's got to be another sub out there, stay alert. I want bearings on contacts within the Azazian formation and then I want them designated and marked. Notify me when they come in"---his sentence was interrupted by junior officer tapping on his shoulder

"Sir, sonar needs you. Now"

"Allright, hold your horses" replied the captain, trying to calm the frazzled sailor. "I'll be right there."

The tension inside the sub had ratcheted up noticeably. This was a very green crew which only had only recieved perfunctory training from the Wirrawayans before heading out. Having never seen combat the captain had no idea what to expect out of them.

Reaching the sonar room he was immediately greeted with a headset. Having been a sonarman himself he quickly identified the contact as the White Phoenix

Grabbing the intercom he spoke softly to the bridge,

"All ahead half-power, bearing 065, drop her to 1,100 ft do not cavitate."

The Kilo cut through the water, slowly bringing the White Phoenix in range.

When the F-16s arrived on scene with the Interceptor the ship was intact it was just adrift. Falcon 1 engaged and destroyed a helicopter which was attempting to flee the scene. No Communication was made with her. 6 Minutes later the White-Phoenix and the fleet arrived. A Chinnok Helicopter arrived and a boarding party boarded the interceptor. It was confirmed that Captain Katie Contarna had been raped and shot but she was still alive. Much of the crew had been butcherd and the ships armoury had been depleted.

The Interceptor Incident had a dramatic affect on the Vetakan Population it caused a surge of revenge attacks by the Vetakan People on people detained at sea. The army had to move prisoners in armoured convoys to Helgan Point. The President authorised that the prisoners would face Military Court rather than Civilian Proceedings as the populations mood meant it would be impossible to pick an unbiased jury.

President Pearce also secretly authorises Sumpreme Commander Stone and all other Coalition Forces to use "Lethal Force to remove the Pirate Threat". The VDF as whole became alot more hostile stopping and boarding anything even suspected of being Pirate.

HMDS. Silent

The little fight had been going on for more then an hour. The crew of the Silent was getting tired from this cat and mouse game. The crew had been able to make the first Kilo SSK surface, but the second seemed to have some what of a smart captain, one who would run then hide, using his electric motor. But time was running out for the man. He had to surface to recharge, and the Delesian fleet would be waiting. But the crew had worked so hard to get the kill, and wasn't going to allow the other ships to claim their kill.

"Captain, master two is moving." Reported the sonar officer, sweat running down his face.

"How many torpedoes do we have?" The Captain too was sweating, his shirt drenched.

"Three, ready in their tubes sir." The XO responded.

"Only three?" Rigg's eyebrow raised an inch.

"Yes sir, we didn't take on all the supplies of weapons at port. The call came in early and we were scrambled, so we just left them." The XO knew he was in deep crap. He hadn't had time to give the Captain his report, and he thought that the ships might be a refit before they ran this low.

"Well I guess there wasn't really a choice, orders are orders. Well prepare to fire. Sonar, paint me a target. I presume he knows where we are, go active once to get me a clear shot, weapons, fire tubes one and two once you have a target. Prepare to change course. When the ping goes active, increase speed to full, change course 136, dive to 230 meters. But only when the sonar goes active." It was the captain's last chance, after this he would have a single tube. And no decoys, wow what a situation.

"Sir, we have a helicopter! It's going active! It's painted us and her! Fish in the water, heading for master two."

"It's our bird, fire tubes one and two!"

"Fish away! Running hot and on course."

"Cut the lines, close the tubes, change course."

"Aye sir." The Silent suddenly turned and started to dive. Riggs reached up and clenched onto a pipe overhead. He raise his other hand to his face, it was bearing his Royal Navy University ring. He gave it a little kiss and put his serious face back on. The fight wasn't over.

"Sir, the helicopter's fish missed, but our two hit. Sounds of break up sir, she's going down." Or maybe it is. A sigh of relief came over the crew, including the captain.

"All right, surface and make contact with the Leo and bring this girls to the scene of master two, lets see if we can pick up some survivors. What was her depth when she went down?"

"Around 56 meters sir."

"So maybe. The fleet probably got some from the first. But just to be sure."

I thank you for your details about the Kilo submarines. We know as they must charge their batteries to continue their silent running. As we have just engaged two confirmed Kilo SSK class submarines. One has been disabled, allowing us to peek into the enemy vessel to observe what our enemy has to fight us, allowing us to better adapt. I will be sure to pass on any information that is found on board.

In the meantime, I find that it is too big of a risk to meet on each other's ship. But in any case, if the submarine problem is not brought to an end at the time that I find it is fit for my sailors to receive some shore time, maybe you can allow your ships to harbor at the same docks in Vetaka, and meet on land. This of course would be in several weeks time, and is a last minute idea if the submarine problem is not put to rest before that time.

Squadron Leader: "Command, this is BlueDevil reporting in, we have appeared to have made contact, over?"

Comm. Officer aboard the main carrier: "Copy that, BlueDevil. What you see?"

SL: "We have got a small, say, 30-50 man frigate. The thing looks old as hell. The vessel has no flag, doesn't respond to our radio messages, has no visible call sign, and we can see stationary guns on the deck. If he isn't a unfriendly, we might as well go home right now!"

CO: The C.O. checked with his superiors, then, "Alright BlueDevil. Flight in real low. Get a good view. If it's a confirmed target, blast the thing to hell. We have support aircraft coming your way and are scrambling SRAD teams as we speak. They will hit your position shortly."

SL: "Copy."

The F-14, the BlueDevil, containing a picture of a burning Blue Devil painted onto the side of it, decreased altitude. The pilot turned to his radio operator in the cockpit. They exchanged words on correct data, and then the plane dove. It passed over the vessel at low speed and only a few hundred feet high. The pilot pressed the radio send button and spoke, "alright, I'm gonna' pass real low and slow over the top of the ship. Hopefully, the pirates will fire at us first. If they do, it will solve us a lot of paperwork. I want you boys locked onto him. The moment a single shot is fired, let him have it." BlueDevil came in very low again. His pass was practically begging a pirate to take a shot at it, as he hoped. He got half way over the ship and did a twirl just to further instigate the pirate crew. Sure enough, finally, a group of pirates ran out onto the dock of the ship and grabbed a fixed cannon. They fired several shots. BlueDevil reared up into the sky, it's wings folded back. Several F-14's launched assorted ASMs at the ship. It was hit shortly thereafter. One of the missiles hit directly in the center of the ship's deck. The deck literaly cracked in half and began to burn, killing almost all pirates who had ran out on the deck previously. Another missile hit the side of the hull, narrowly missing. It cracked the hull and leaked burning oil. Machine gun bullets tore the cabin apart, and more hit the small machine guns around the cabin, many now containing pirates. At the end, BlueDevil fired one more missile into the ship. It hit what appeared to be a open cargo hold. The hold burst into flame, apparently setting off a series of chain reactions within the ship. Small bursts of flame shot out of holes in the hull and deck. The fires on the ship intensified.

BlueDevil called in, "Enemy destroyed. It is now little more than a flaming piece of metal. No apparent survivors as of yet."

His reply: "Roger. Support craft and rescue teams will arrive in several minutes. Circle target and hold your present SP."

Helgan Harbour, Helgan, Southen Newman Island, 19:00:

The crowds had been steadily gathering outside of Helgan Naval Base Main Gate. Helgan was Vetaka's Second City and its Large Port and Air Base Facilty was where the VDF had choose to hold all seized pirate goods and persons. After the Interceptor Incident Vetaka's populace had become militant and violent the mob had attacked and killed 3 pirates.

They now sat calmly outside the main gates holding signs that read "Death to all those Sea Dogs" and "All Pirates most die". At the gates where VDF Soliders armed with M4's and behind the crowds where VDF Police Officers whom where all cautious. At the moment the crowd was calm and quiet however it would only take a small spark to ignite a riot.

Meanwhile..........

Newman Island, Theeb (Vetakan Capital), Theeb General Hospital, Top Floor (ICU), Room 12:

For the 2rd Night running President Daniel Pearce had been at the Hospital reading a chapter aloud of the Hobbit to Captain Cotona. The Docters had commented on why he was doing it. Little did people know that Pearce saw Katie as a sister as a opposed to a person under is command.

Meanwhile..........

Secret VDF Security and Intelligence Service HQ Theeb:

VDF Supreme Operational Commander Stone sat within a chair facing SIS Team Alpha a crack team of experts whom had been gathered together to provide expert Intel to the VDF Operation Vetakan Freedom. After the Interceptor Incident the gloves where off for the VDF now it was personal. As a result Stone had now ordered SIS Chief Cmd Barrett to deploy Scout Force Delta an elite Special Forces Sniper and Recon Unit the secret weapon of Vetaka. The Vetakan Scouts were a closely guarded Vetakan Secret and their elite where now ordered to remove and all suspected of pirates and they wasted no time. For at that moment Scout Operators where "Neutralising" Key Pirate Operators.

"You were lucky we found you when we did, Miss." It was the sound of a notorious pirate. On Interpol's list for piracy. Aqua Anu Intel had provided that he was opearting in these waters. This was a sting operation, a pretty gilr and a man.

"I'm lucky that you find me. That was awful storm yes." It was fake accent of Agent Anya Rothrock. She had weaseld her way onto a Pirate Ship, it was so simply desguised as an elegant Yacht. These were high strikers, and wealthly ones.

"Is that a gun?"

"Oh this? Yes, need to protect my self on the high seas."

"Your a smart girl."

"Thank you."

"Where are you from?"

"From small island."

"Really."

"Yes. Very primative, we have not much. But now I have no way to get back home."

"Perhaps we can give something. Only because you are so cute."

"No I can't."

"Sure. But it will cost you a bit because I'll be giving you a loan. And seeing as you won't be able to pay me back with cash, you'll have to give me..."

"Oh I see, you want me to..."

"Yes."

"All right but one night is all."

AQRN Anya

"That's it we got them. She'll find what we need and we can take down."

Later that night she had discoverd the loot. It was a vault full of cash, and weapons. She gave a code signal and it was time for the take down. She had the gun pointed right in his face.

"Guess what, I'm the with the RAPA and you are under arrest for piracy."

After getting approval for operations from the Vetekan authorities, ICCD set out to implement it's action plan. A single time was selected for the operation. The plan was simple. First the recon would be conducted via UMV from the small sub wolfpack. Air operations would be syncronyzed for operations even if negatives came back. A seabased and airborn paratrooper joint action would be undertaken with minimal air support. Air forces were being prepositioned for the strike including a few strike helicopters and emergency extraction, for a portion of the paratrooper force if things went bad. Missle strikes were reserved for that scenario.

So in a haze in the deep the wolfpack thrust through the water. The secondary fleet was dispatched and on it's way, at this time with support of a second task force, that would only be a time limited escort, and response fleet if for some reason things took a turn.

The exact locations of the lightning strikes were unknown to most of the crew, but the air drop was to envolve Lictors as well as some airtransportable vehicles, that could serve as NBC safe holdings areas for either themselves, or act as paddywagons for any survivors of any positive strikes. "At the least it would it would proove to be an effective training operation." That was the line agreed to by the Command Staff signing off on the multi million dollar operation.

So the Ships were in movement, and the strike about to unleash. Three more days and the simultaneous ferreting of the potential ports would be underway. And the sensor systems and decoys deployed with any luck to pick up any of the pirate personnel that attempt a flight. The missions clock was on countdown in operations view screen of both fleets. Operation Chest was underway.

The burned pirate ship had almost completely caved in on inself, but still managed to remain afloat. As promised to the BlueDevil squadron, several landing craft arrived on the scene. A Blackhawk helicopter made it's way to the only portion of the ship still solely intact, the deck behind the main cabin. Behind the Blackhawk hovered Harriers and several Apache helicopters, waiting to support the Blackhawk if nesseccary. The Blackhawk hovered above the cabin, and a thin black rope slid down onto the ship's surface. Then, several commandos wearing water suits slid down the rope onto the ship. The first team assembled. There mission was to grab all the prisoners they could before the ship fell apart. The leader called, "prepare arms!" The first team picked up there G-36 assault rifles and made their way to th cabin door. They kicked it open. A few pirate survivors screamed out at the sound of the opening door, and fired a few rounds into the entrance way. One commando fell to the ground dead. the rest rushed in. Several frag grenades were tossed into the cabin. The pirates ran for cover, but too late. The grenades exploded and blew the pirates out of what was left of the cabin windows. The commandos rushed down a hatch leading into the ship's hull. Within 10 minutes, a few more shots ran out, an explosion sounded, and then the commandos re-emerged with several tied up pirates.
The pirates were loaded onto the Blackhawk. once one Blackhawk was loaded, another swooped down to take it's place.
"What's the status report, Major?," asked the operational commander hovering in his E-2C Hawkeye AWACS aircraft several thousand feet above the ship. The commando Major replied, "One of our's dead, several of theirs. We have 12 prisoners, all seem to be low ranking pirates. We have cleared the main cabin and the central hold. However, some pirates are still hold up in the cargo hold. They bocked themselves off by the way we were coming, and now we have to go down the main stairwell. I don't know if it is safe, never mind the possibility of it being completely out of commision." The OC thought, then said, "Copy that. Attempt to get in that cargo hold. If it takes longer than five minutes, get the hell out. I have F-18's en route to sink what's left of the ship in slightly over five minutes. My Helo commanders tell me that the ship may not last long anyway, even without the bombings. We'll evacuate everyone except for your team and one UH-60 to pick your men up. On my order, if your not out already, get out. Over and out."
The commando Major regrouped his men together and ran towards the cargo hold stairwell. They finally arrived, only to be partially blocked by a wall of fire still glowing from the first bombings. After getting around, they arrived at the stairwell. The men huddled single file down the rickity stairs and hit the bottom. Several dead pirate bodies littered the ground. The commandos picked up their rifles and moved into the hold. They got to the edge of a row of boxes and saw a few pirates loading up there weapons. The commandos raised their guns, but the pirates wouldn't go down without a fight. One pirate managed to raise an RPK and let a burst go, killing two lead commandos. The rest took cover. They dove behind crates and boxes and threw frag grenades, but had little effect. The Major turned to his men. They were all pinned down by the fire, especially the RPK in the center. The Major thought. Then, he threw a smoke grenade behind the crate beside the RPK gunner. The smoke grenade filled the air. The Major took the opportunity and ran around the smoke covered crate. The dove behind it and successfully went completely around it without being spotted by the pirates. He swung around, and there in front of him was the pirate gunners. The Major raised his G-36 and screamed, "PUT DOWN YOUR GUNS!" The pirates swerved around to look at the Major. One inched towards his gun. To show the pirates that the Major meant buissiness, the Major fired a shot into the pirate inching towards his gun. The rest of the pirates slowly lowered, then dropped their weapons. The rest of the commandos came over and tied up the pirate prisoners.
The five minutes were now up. "LET'S GO!," screamed the Major. They dragged the pirates up the stairs and onto the deck of the ship. A UH-60 was waiting for them. The Major, as commanding officer, considered it his responsibility to be the last one onto the helocopter. He loaded up the pirates and rushed his men. Then, out from a side door of the cabin came shots. "DAMN!," thought the Major, "We didn't clear out the side cabin." He returned fire, but knew he had to get his men out now, or else all of them may die. One man grabbed the .50 caliber machine gun aboard the UH-60 and fired at the pirates, pinning them down temporarily. The Major threw the last man aboard the UH-60, then went inside himself. "All clear, move!," yelled the Major. The UH-60 took off and rose above the cabin. "We are off the deck, those F-18's can blow the ship now," said the pilot. The UH-60 flew away as fast as possible. At one point however, a pirate placed a well aimed shot at the machine gunner, who was keeping the pirate shooters back. The man handling the machine gun aboard the UH-60 fell down. The pirates took the opportunity and ran out into the open of the deck. Then they littered the fleeing UH-60 with bullets. The helicopter rocked back and forth. "Hold on!," the pilot yelled. The F-18's came into view. They targeted the ship. As soon as the words TARGET LOCKED appeared on the cockpit screen, the pilots pulled the trigger, setting off several Seahawk missiles. At that same second, a pirate loading up an RPG-7 rushed out onto the deck of the ship. He looked at the UH-60 through his scope, and pulled the trigger. All at once, several missiles collided into the ship's hull. The ship exploded into chunks of burnt steel. Pirates flew out into the sea. The missiles turned the ship into a massive explosion, and left nothing but bodies, screaming pirates, and a sinking piece of metal. The RPG round found it's target. It hit the tail section of the UH-60 and blew it off. "We're going down!," yelled the pilot. The UH-60 smashed into the ocean as the pirate ship exploded into flame. The helicopter impact threw many of the commandos out of the helo and into the sea. Screams joined the sounds of explosion in the air. And over the radio was sent this message:
AWACS over the ship:
"TARGET DESTROYED AND SINKING. HOSTILE SURVIVORS FLOUNDERING IN SEA."
Then...
"ONE UH-60 DOWN. REQUEST IMMEDIATE RESCUE!"

OOC: Major Development!!!!!!!!!!!! This is about to get very hot. Swan is unstable and is possesion of 5 Nuclear Tomahawk Missiles. He is aboard a modern day Q-Ship please see wiki for details. He is going to hold Vetaka and certain governments to ransom.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disguised Pirate Ship acting as a Merchant Ship (Modern Q-Ship). The ship was heading towards Helgan City Vetaka's Second Largest City. On the bridge was a man most people thought to be dead. He was James Swan the second or as he liked to be called Govenor-General Swan II the loser of the Vetakan Civil War.

As most people new President Daniel Pearce had led a charge in the Presidential Palace and killed Swan on January 1st. However the man Pearce had killed was a double. Now Swan was here and he was going to exact his revenge. Swan was ready for this day. He shouted across to his second mate a pirate whom he was paying a hell of a lot. Continue as planned and prepare the weapons and launcher. A man scuttled off into to the darkness and a few minutes passed then a phone rang and Swan answered the voice on the other end was simple:

"Weapon ready"

Swan put the phone down and turned and spoke into the Ship PA mic:

"Listern up if you want to earn your pay plus an extra 20% you better give me 110% get ready"

He turned to the captain and orderd the ship into the very isloated bay 50 miles north of Helgan. The ship came to a halt in the centre of the bay. All none essential lights where dowsed and radio silence was commernced. Swan activated his encrypted radio and spoke into it.

"Attention VDFCC this is Govenor-General Swan you better call in that toad of a President and his shit staff and tell them that im very much alive and I have a few demands for him to meet I will call again in 1 hour".

Swan put the radio down and turned to his captain this is going to be a long night.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
VDFCC, Command Room, Theeb, Red Alert:

The Doors of the Command Room swung open and President Pearce followed by Cmd Stone swopped into the Command Room. The High Command where already seated. The phone call the President had received was very panic stricken and vague. A man on the airwaves had clamied to be Govenor Swan and he wanted to speak to the President.

The hour deadline was approaching President Pearce sat down and was a little annoyed he barked:

"Give me an Update"

VDFSIS Cmd Barrett cleared his throat:

"About 50 Minutes ago a man on the radio contacted VDFCC claiming to be Govenor General Swan he demanded to speak to us and gave us 1 hour. We where unable to trace the calls orign as it was encrypted and been scrambled."

Barrett hit a button which sent the message into the surround sound:

"Attention VDFCC this is Govenor-General Swan you better call in that toad of a President and his shit staff and tell them that im very much alive and I have a few demands for him to meet I will call again in 1 hour".

Pearce listerend it was Swan's his voice was unmistakable:

"How long till he contacts us again?" Pearce said slowly.

"5 Minutes" came the reply from Cmd Barrett.

"Ok get ready for a possible national emergancy. Swan has somthing up his sleeve. I want a total media black out. I want Chinnok's, Apache's, Longbows and Fighters on standby with the Scouts, 101 & 102 Commando ready to deploy anywhere if nessary.

I want the Army, Navy, Air-Force and all domestic emgerancy services briefed on this. Prepare for anything from a Rebellion to Nuclear Weapons whatever this twat is planning I want to be able to respond within an instance"

Suddenly a radio operator interupted:

"Sir its him shall I transfer to Surround?"

Barrett nodded.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Silence<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

"This is VDF Supreme Commanding Admiral in Chief Daniel......................."

Swan Interupted and spat into the mic on the ship:

"Shut it Pearce you arrogant twat. Now listern up and listern carefully scum of the earth within my possesion I have 5 lovely Tomahawk Missiles nuclear tipped. You have 12 hours to do the following.

- Deposit 50% of the Vetakan Treasury into my account
- Publically resign as president
- Remove all Forigen Nation forces in 12 hours

Failure to do so gentleman will result in the Destruction of Helgan and Theeb and then 3 Random Forigen Nations You have 12 hours Ill be in touch in six"

With that he was gone. The room was stunned into silence. Pearce broke the silence.

"Listern Up we have a nut case with 5 Nuclear Weapons he is unstable and we hate him. Red Alert I want all forces on Red Alert. I want the Army and police deployed on the streets and inform the public ill make a presidential address in an hour. Alert all Forigen Powers of the situation and advise them to leave.

Barrett you have 12 hours to locate and kill that bastard. As soon as you do either destroy or attack him using any and all means. I myself will be leading any and all Strike Team. I know im not supose to but fuck it I killed that bastard once I will do it again understood?"

This rant was met by a unaimous:

The captain watched intently as the range between the Vetakan flagship and his sub steadily decreased.
He turned from the combat screen and quickly went through the preparations to begin his attack.

"Target status."

"White Phoenix and escorts are targeted and locked."

"Tubes Loaded?"

"Tubes 1 through 4 are loaded"

"Prepare to fire"

"Ready to fire"

"Fire"

"Firing"

4 Torpedoes exited the front of the Kilo, 2 for the White Phoenix and one for each of her escorts.

"Weapons running hot and straight sir" barked the weapons cheif

Without reacting the captain turned to his helmsman

"Dive to 2,000 ft and bring us about to bearing 235. How long until those tubes are reloaded?"

"3 minutes sir"

"I want that Azazian carrier and cruiser bracketed. Fire when we come into range. Make sure you do not, I repeat, do not use the nuclear torpedo."

“Commodore, transient noises reported by ASW screen.”

Pendleton pulled his mug of now lukewarm tea from his lips. “Do we have a firing solution?”

“Momentarily, sir, we are coordinating data from the fleet as well as our allies.”

The ASW screen that had, until now, sprinted and drifted, listening for any slight noise or disturbance, finally had the break for which they had searched, seemingly in vain. Helicopters passing to and fro over the seemingly calm seas retracted any sensors from the waters beneath their rotor wash and headed for the area from which the torpedoes had likely emanated.

Onboard the Port Royal, Pendleton knew seconds were bleeding into minutes. “Do we have a solution?”

“One moment, sir,” the cruiser’s tactical officer paused, his mouth open and eyes fixated on digital dots and icons. “Firing solution confirmed, sir.”

“Very good, have the outer screen engage at will. Ready torpedo defence systems throughout the squadron.” Pendleton watched quietly, sipping his tea, as the men of his flagship leapt to action. At some distance from his ship, VLS cell hatches sprung open to release gas and flame followed by cylindrical objects exhaling flame soon to be breathing seawater.

Pendleton was well aware of the coming moments—his crew had taken too long in triangulating the source of the firing. “Any word on the Vetakan ship?”

“Torpedoes still on track, sir.”

“Please do advise them to take some action, I should hate to be held accountable for that heap of steel today.”

In the skies above the fleet, the ASW helicopters of the fleet began to descend upon the last known-position of their hidden prey. Some stayed at a distance, preferring to drop their sensors further from their target, a target that could well be equipped with surface-to-air missiles. With loud splashes, passive sensors dropped into the water, at various depths above and below the layer.

Meanwhile the rocket motors of the anti-submarine ordnance reached the end of their lives, dropping their payload of torpedoes into the seas. It was, perhaps, overkill with six torpedoes now racing for their prey—but Pendleton secretly feared it had been too late. Half the batch would loiter, the other half would actively engage the target if only to exhaust its decoys and defences for the first, the waiting, batch.

At some distance from the ring of the engagement, the Port Royal and the carrier began to make full speed—their engineering staffs nursing all the available power from their reactors. In the torpedo rooms of the cruiser, the crews began to pull out their own torpedoes and replace them with unmanned decoys to be launched upon notification from the Commodore. While the Port Royal had towed decoys, the launchable, unmanned systems were designed to move off on their own evasive maneuvers far away from the Port Royal with acoustic and wake signatures far larger than the cruiser. Aboard the carrier, similar preparations were being made ready.

“Report, if you please,” Pendleton stated calmly.

“Our forces are engaging the enemy while we have no word yet on either impact let alone damage to the Vetakan battleship.”

“Very well,” Pendleton mused. “Please inform Admiral Colfer onboard the Delesian battleship that we are engaging a submerged contact that has fired upon Vetakan naval forces. Likewise, send a message to the Admiralty informing them that we are engaging the enemy.”

“Very good, sir.”

"Admiral message from the Port Royal."

"What does it say?"

"That shes engaging a enemy submarine contact."

"Very well," Colfer turned towards the ship's A.I. display, "Do you have a fix on their position?"

"Affirmitive Admiral."

"Scramble the helicopters, make best speed, prepare depth charges, order the Emma Burke to fall behind, and the Opel to protect her. No need for us to loss our supplies."

"Reactors at 130%, we can run like this for 5 minutes, then we must drop to 95%."

"Thats all right. Do it."

"Yes sir. Sending position coordinates to the rest of the fleet."

"Torpedoes in the water, I count six so far!" cried out the sonar man.

The captain simply nodded his head, this was to be expected. He grabbed the ships intercom

"At current speed we have around 4 minutes"

"Fire the noisemakers and go to full power. Bring her up to 500 ft and around 180 degrees, I want some goddam knuckling."

The floor tilted sharply as the ballast tanks began to empty, holding onto a railing the captain spoke again.

Whats the word on those torpedoes?"

"Tubes 1 through 3 are loaded sir but we're having a hell of time getting the number 4 in, we think its defective."

"What else do we have?"

"Only the nuke sir"

For a second the captain put his head down, using what precious little time he had left to try and formulate a solution. It only took him a moment to realize that there was nothing left to do except fire the nuke and hope the shock wave destroyed the enemy torps. There was also a very high chance that it would destroy the sub as well. but as the old saying goes, nothing risked nothing gained.

"Allright, looks like we're gonna take these suckers with us. Load up the nuke, fire tubes 1-3. Cut the wires on the others, their on their own now. I expect we'll have a much more difficult time with the Azazians anyway"

"Tubes 1-3 launched sir, tube 4 will be ready shortly"

The three torpedoes speared through the water, 2 headed for the carrier while the other made for the cruiser.

The torpedoes targeted on the Vetakan formation also continued to close on their targets.

The Kilo kept rising to 500ft all the while speeding and turning away from the oncoming torpedoes. With each turn it created a little knuckle in the water which along with the noisemakers the enemy torpedoes would have to work their way through to get to the sub. With its engines running at full power there was only 15 minutes of battery life left. Time was running out, fast.

Wirraway - whats the point of running on your electric engine, when you have fired off 3 torpedoes, and releasing noisemakers, the Royal Navy and the Vetakan ship would have you painted like a black cat in the snow. And why are you going up? Even by not reading Azazia post, the captain, if even, should know that since there is a carrier that means probable helicopters, so this is a suicide move? Im sorry but I can see 200+ men throw their lives away in the name of pirating, if they can live and steal another day. No honour amoung thieves. Not to be rude or anything.

OOC:
To respond,

1. the sub is running on electric engines because it would have to be surfaced and snorkeling in order to run on diesel, which, with all helicopters around, as you yourself pointed out, would be akin to suicide.

2. It doesn't matter if he goes up or down. The helicopters are still going to find him no matter what since they've been dropping sonobouys all over the place and at different depths. If the submarine does take a hit, which it most likely will, 500ft is shallow enough that the crew might be able to empty the ballast tank in an emergency surface and survive. Hence this is not a suicide move but a survival tactic.

Hope that clears things up.

Your 1st response, im not too sure about, as i know really much but a few things about SSKs.

Your 2nd, yes the helicopters would still find you, but running at a lower depth... never mind, its your preference on how you run your subs, sorry I intruded.

Wirraway is right, at least so far as I know, in order to be running his diesel engines he would require oxygen, a la snorkeling or running on the surface--the Kilo has few options given the low battery supply.

“Inbound torpedoes.” Pendleton turned to face the large display monitor tracking the course and speed of the newly launched torpedoes—unlike the last salvo, however, there were but three and they were headed for Pendleton’s command. “Two on the Victory, one on Port Royal.”

“Launch countermeasures,” Pendleton replied, taking great care to speak calmly and clearly. Any hint of panic on his part would likely evidence itself in shoddy performance by his crew when he needed them at their best. “Begin evasive maneuvers and order the ASW screen to re-engage the submarine.”

From the port and starboard torpedo tubes on the Port Royal, sleek canisters slid into the water, their propellers churning the water in addition to jets of air designed to create large wake signatures while speakers poured out sounds of massive engine plants and shafts spinning at full speed. From his seat in the heart of the Port Royal, Pendleton watched as the carrier executed the same procedures, her speed for maneuvering, however slower than the cruiser, which was now speeding at near 32 knots.

Above the Kilo, the squadron’s ASW helicopters had begun to gather, vultures to a doomed game animal. One by one, four more torpedoes were dropped on the fleeing submarine, this time the range not several kilometres as with the ship and sub-launched weapons, but mere hundreds of metres in depth—a depth that the sonar data indicated was shallowing rapidly.

The HMS Sabre was a relatively small warship, a Type 05 frigate of the Royal Navy designed primarily for anti-submarine warfare. She was equipped with a total of 32 VLS cells, of which three were now empty—one on a live-fire exercise before the current assignment, the second the first salvo of six torpedoes to kill the pirate submarine, the third now part of a second batch of six. Commander Emily Perkins tapped her long, slender fingers upon the tabletop display. That large blip was her target. “Helm, new course, shadow her,” she ordered, referring to the submarine, “and break off pursuit only when she lay broken on the bottom.”

As the young officer walked in a slow circle about her display, she watched the tracks of the enemy torpedoes near her squadron’s flagship and supporting carrier. Not one of the squadron’s captains had been warned of possible submarine activity by pirates and this sudden action had caught not just Perkins by surprise—though she, like Pendleton, evinced nothing but calm, careful attention to duty from her crew. She watched little icons move about off the Vetakan coast, three blips moving ever closer to the Royal Navy’s representatives. Then, they were all so close they merged.

Pendleton let one hand grip his armrest while the other held more tightly his mug of tea. The time of reckoning had come, his few mistakes were now to cost him. “Impact in five,” Pendleton listened to the warning in one ear while barking out orders to sound collision alarms and to brace for impact. In an odd fashion, those five seconds stretched into eternity and life slowed to a crawl. He could see before his eyes not just tracking data from radar and sonar but fields of lilies and palm-lined beaches from home. Not just the young men and women under his command, but the young boys and girls of his hometown.

Suddenly, and violently, Pendleton felt himself jolted into a new reality. The lights flickered, as did several screens from the engineering station. He felt a sharp burning sensation on his abdomen, instinctively reaching down only to feel a warm liquid oozing out of his shirt. He ignored the wound and looked about at his command centre, men and women shaken up but otherwise intact. “All stations submit damage reports, if you please,” he finally yelled over the shrill impact alarm—quickly silenced by the ship’s executive officer.

“We have lost contact with Number 2 decoy, Commodore,” the ship’s captain responded as the young captain walked about the slowly steadying deck, taking careful measure of the readouts on the monitors and printers at the various stations. “Minor concussion damage in engineering, Engine room reports minor flooding from Shaft 2—though Chief Engineer indicates we should be able to maintain speed for another fifteen minutes.”

“Commodore,” another voice, this time the tactical officer, cried out, “all indications are that the decoy worked and we have sustained only minor damage.”

“The Victory?”

“Not as lucky, sir,” the captain responded. “Her captain is reporting significant damage to propulsion and steering—he thinks one decoy worked but the second torpedo hit the stern. Major flooding in aft compartments but watertight doors are holding. She will, however, need assistance in putting into Port Helgan or any other nearby dry dock facility. My assessment, sir, is that she is out of the fight.”

Pendleton nodded soberly. “Very well, Captain. Do we have a report on that damned submarine yet?”

HMDS. Northern

Commander Steve Jones, captain of the Northern sat in his chair. He looked out port and saw the HMDS. Southern. The two sister ships were going as fast as they could, it was more of a race between the two, as the ship's were designed for anti-submarine warfare. They cruised at 35 knots, faster then the HMDS. Leo and the HMDS. Fowl.

"Arm the ASW 127mm rocket-powered grenade launchers and depth charges."

"Arming now. Torpedoes?"

"Negative. That's just what they have been being dished. Let's change it up."

"Yes sir. Message from the Leo. Reads, Good Hunting."

"That's it?" A smile cracked on his face.

"Yes sir."

HMDS. Southern

Commander Holly Kaul stood just in front of her seat, watching over the horizon for the Royal Navy. She look starboard.

"We won't let them get the sub, will we boys?" He sat back down, fixing her navy officer's visor cap.

"No ma'am."

"Good, prepare all weapons. We are going to give them everything we got."

"Yes ma'am." Several seconds later, "All three tubes ready in all repects."

"Alright let's get this party started. Contact the Port Royal, ask her what needs to be done."

The sonar screen was so filled with contacts that instead of rendering them the tactical computer simply displayed a solid green mass.

The countermeasures and knuckling managed to shake 3 of the torpedoes but the rest bore down on the now rapidly rising Kilo.

Inside the sub the tension was almost palpable. The crew was verging on the breaking point. Men shifted nervously at their stations, some of the younger ones bit their lower lips as they watched their impending destruction move inexorably closer.

"How long until impact" shouted the captain

"30 second sirs"

A suddenly a shriek broke the tense silence

"I DON'T WANT TO DIE, I GOTTA GET OUT, I GOTTA GET OUT OF HERE"

A seaman slammed against the walls of the sub, frantically looking for a hatch, his fellows quickly followed suit. All order was lost on the command deck, men deserted their stations trampling each other, trying to find wet suits and way out.

The captain felt the sub shudder slightly signaling the launch of the last torpedo, too late to save them.

With nobody on the helm the sub pitched down sharply, throwing men and objects into bulkheads with considerable force. Thankfully, the injured did not suffer for long.

The three torpedoes impacted at almost the same time blowing the pressure hull of the Kilo open like a soda can. The rest of torpedoes only served to churn a patch of ocean filled with fragments of metal and human remains. The debris slowly fell to the sea floor like a macabre rain.

The Kilo's radioactive parting gift continued onward. With the wire to the sub cut its own active sonar provided guidance as it made its way towards the Azazian flagship.

VDFCC, Command Room, Theeb, Red Alert

As the reports of the White-Phoenix sub attack came into VDFCC Pearce immediatly ordered a Damage Report. The Phoenix was still operational however she had been hit and had lost her rudder as a result she was unable to move as for the other missile thanks to an impressive display of commanding by the Phoenix captain it had narrowly missed. As for her escorts one had received a direct hit and was sinking the other had missed.

The Suriving escort a type 42 destroyer the Dauntless was now the Flagship of the Vetakan Naval Fleet and was tasked with the hunting of the Submarine. The Destroyer launched its Westland Lynx Helicopter. The VDF only had 1 operational submarine which had been diverted to the area it was full speed and was less than 20 minutes.

Pearce: "All VDF Naval Ships find and sink that Sub use any and all force!"

He turned to VDFSIS Cmd Barrett: "is it Swan?"

"I don't belive so Sir if it is he is abit stupid" Barrett Replied.

"Agreed Keep searching for Swan Open Comms to all Ships" Pearce cleared his throat:

"Attention all VDF Naval Ships and All Coaliton Ships this is VDF Supreme Commanding Admiral in Chief Daniel Pearce at VDFCC. Approximatly 1 hour ago a Man we know to be James Swan the loser of the Vetakan Civil War he has announced he has 5 Nuclear Tomahawk Missiles and given my govenment a list of demands. Which we will not be meeting as we do not negociate with Terrorism I advise all Coalition Ships and forces to cease operations and leave Vetakan Waters."

Pearce paced again hoping he could find Swan and stop what could be a large blood bath before it happened.

"Yes Sir"
"ADMIRAL!," yelled a senior radio operator aboard the Verakan waters UES flagship. He ran towards the aAdmiral's office holding papers in his hand. The surprised Admiral looked up. "What is it?" "Admiral, we got in a message. Vetakan rebels have grouped outside Vetaka, and are demanding loads of unrealistic crap, andare threatening to shoot off 5 nukes if their commands are not met!" The Admiral looked grim. "Alright, here's what we do. Contact Edland Heights, the Prime Minister himself. Alert him of the goings on. Form a team of penetration commandos. Maybe, we can deploy them onto the rebel ships and take them out." "The landing troops were hit bad in the pirate ship landing yesturday, sir." The Admiral thought, then said, "Fine then. Have the UES HC organize the best men they can get, as fast as possible. Alert all UES HC groups immediatly. We have a huge situation on our hands. Oh, and give Verakan government a call. Tell them we will organize a group of commandos, and will assist them in any way they wish." "Yes sir..."

Via highrange accoustic signalling the wolf pack was given word that the operation was to be diverted. As such the pack changed course and started to exit and air crews put on standby. Via satalite the Decoys were also diverted out of Vetakan water, after collecting the deployed bouys.

Operation Chest, the operation to attack the potential coastal base of operations of the seathreat is on standby. Will resume when permission is granted by the Vetakan command. If it would be more suitable we can send in some sorties with BBU's to negate any potential bases in the area. however, the areas have not been confirmed as to their actual use, whether illegal or not "

“Another torpedo, Commodore,” a voice cried out amid damage and situation reports.

Pendleton nodded, running over his mental image of the situation. “Tow the decoy and begin evasive maneuvers.” Before his orders were even fully finished, the Port Royal began to heave at first to starboard and then to port as she attempted to elude the second torpedo. From the stern, a pair of towed decoys began to repeat back the active sonar signal at a much higher level than that of the cruiser.

“Sir, contact from the HMDS Southern, requesting instructions.”

Turning his head to face the ship’s communications officer, Pendleton shook his head furiously. “Please inform her commander that we will respond once this torpedo is dispensed with.”

With the range rapidly closing, the torpedo persisted doggedly after the cruiser, matching her sudden turns closing the range slowly but surely. From within the nerve centre of the Port Royal Pendleton wiped the warm liquid from his chest, wiping part of it off his arm on his white shirt soaked with his sweat. Noticing the distinct lack of crimson he dabbed at it again before pulling it to his lips.

“Bastard shall pay,” he muttered, “making me spill my tea.” His crew sat anchored to their stations, waiting and some even praying that the helmsman and the decoys would earn their respective pay. “Time until impact, Captain?”

“Thirty seconds, sir.”

“Prepare to sound collision alarm and brace for impact.”

“Sound collision arm, aye, sir. XO, sound collision alarm,” and so went the repeated commands until the klaxons blared shrill, piercing noises into the ears of ratings and officers alike—save the few who lay still from the last attack. Once more the ship’s rudder practically rolled the ship over while the pinging of the torpedo grew louder, and steadier in tone.

“Impact in five seconds, sir.”

Pendleton looked down at his waist, and pulled the belt snug once more. Off the stern, underneath the roiling wake, the torpedo slammed into a piece of aluminium alloy and electronic circuitry and fibre optic cable. It was a few hundred metres distant from the cruiser—but with its nuclear warhead even a few hundred metres distant meant a great deal.

Those flying above the Royal Navy squadron saw a bright flash, one unlucky crew launched from the Port Royal happened to be paying particular attention to their ship and was blinded by he blast—their low altitude, hovering, listening to the death throes of the submarine, meant the knee-jerk reaction of the pilot pushed the Sea Falcon head first into the sea.

As the column of water grew, the crew of various frigates and destroyers turned to watch what could not be an ordinary torpedo. After reaching its maximum height, just aft of their squadron flagship, the massive vertical wall of water, an offering of power and majesty to Ares collapsed. And as it did so the water it displaced on the surface rushed out in concentric circles dozens of metres high. It quickly overtook the Port Royal, which began to disappear into a whitish-grey mist, first her quarterdeck then X and Y turrets followed by the superstructure and mast then A and B and lastly the bow.

Pendleton’s world, however, had come to an end—the blast so far from his ship, yet the warhead so large as to make the impact almost direct. In the blink of an eye, the world went dark and it was only several blinks later before emergency lighting returned, casting flickering shadows upon bulkheads and hatches. Once more Pendleton felt warm liquid, this time on his forehead—but this time a swipe revealed a viscous crimson substance.

“Damage report,” he barked over the hissing of bent and ruptured steam pipes.

“Hull integrity compromised,” the captain responded, his own bloodied face revealed in flickers and quick glimpses. “We are hearing nothing from Engineering and points after of Frame 21.”

“Send the Damage Control Parties aft, if we are hearing nothing we are not hearing anything good, Captain.”

“Very well, sir, right away, sir.” Pendleton wiped his forehead once more, and with it another significant quantity of blood. Finally, feeling slightly light-headed, Pendleton pushed himself up from his seat. However, he found himself trapped by the belt, which he fumbled with for a moment with blood-coated fingers. He walked over to the captain, who was himself leaning up against a mounted seat for his navigation officer—who had been sent aft to ascertain what was going on as nothing was being heard from the after compartments.

“How bad is it?”

“Bad, sir. Reactor scrammed and we are operating on one of two emergency diesel generators; the second being aft of Frame 21. Steering is unresponsive, most of our electrical system is shot to hell and we are resorting to sound phones to communicate with the remainder of the ship.”

“Any reports of damage near the bow?”

“No, sir, fortunately. Everything appears to be concentrated towards the stern, but we are in a tight situation nonetheless,” the captain then simply pointed to the display table, where, rather miraculously, some officer’s cup of coffee remained intact. However, it was now at an angle, sliding ever so slowly towards the rear of the compartment, and ever slightly to starboard.

“I have ordered the gun crews to assist in damage control, but I am hearing nothing from the topside positions.” The two were interrupted by a lieutenant, his one eye shut and covered with black blood, who quickly handed the captain a piece of crumpled paper.

“No reports from anybody topside, Commodore, there appears to be nobody up there.”

“Bloody hell, there goes at least what, 50 persons or so?”

“50 persons who could be quite useful right about now.”

“Indeed,” Pendleton murmured. “What about communications?”

“Nothing, sir. If there is nobody left topside, my guess is that whatever forced them off the ship probably wrecked the masts—I doubt we shall have sensors if we ever get those systems up and running.”

Suddenly, the ship shook, violently enough to throw the two officers to the deck. Again lights flickered and several green ratings screamed in sheer terror. “Captain,” an unseen officer called out.

“Yeah, all is well, Lieutenant.”

“Ensign Malachy’s team is reporting the explosion emanating from the area near the aft-mounted 76mm magazines.”

“Fire suppression?”

“Out, sir. However, he is also reporting that seawater has passed through Frame 19 and is advancing forward.”

Pendleton struggled to find a sturdy and semi-dry edge with which to pull himself up. “She is taking on a great deal of sea water.”

“Indeed she is, sir,” the captain responded soberly. As if on cue, the steel hull groaned and the mug of coffee that had been on the table now shattered, falling helplessly to the deck. “Commodore,” the captain added after a long moment of relative silence. “I think it appropriate to muster all hands topside and evacuate the ship.”

Another explosion rattled the ship; Pendleton threw a useless glance towards the after compartments. Presumably another small calibre magazine. “Very well, Captain, I concur.”

From the HMS Sabre, which had confirmed its torpedo shredding the Kilo class to rapidly sinking fragments of steel, Perkins found herself staring into the mist obscuring the Port Royal, which could not be hailed even by signal lights or more basic flags. Finally, from the whitish-grey mist emerged another grey form, strange but simultaneously familiar. She pulled up her binoculars to struggle to make some certainty out of the vacuum of information.

As the shapeless form solidified, she could begin to make out X and Y turrets, the gun barrels askew while her smaller 76 mounts appeared entirely wrecked. From ruptures and tears along the hull and the deck, smoke poured out with columns of steam from fires rapidly being extinguished by sea water that was apparently rapidly flooding into the hull.

“XO,” she called out into the bridge, “have our bird make way for the Port Royal and bring us as close as we can. Ready the boats.”

Aboard the rapidly sinking Port Royal, Pendleton, the captain, and whatever crew could be found and informed slowly made their way up to the deck—emerging from stuffy claustrophobic air into one laced with radiation. Throughout the squadron, radiological sensors began to sound—including on the Sabre—and the ships began to seal themselves to prevent radioactive particles from entering ventilation and filtration systems. Crews working to launch boats and rafts headed back inside to don protective suits.

Not far from the cruiser, the carrier that had also been damaged had taken the wave quite hard as well. She, however, had managed to take the wave on the bow, and simply suffered the loss of four aircraft being washed off the stern portion of the flight deck. Her aerials, much higher above the sea than the cruiser, remained largely intact and with great reluctance, her captain signaled that the carrier was now out of action.

For Pendleton and the crew on the deck of the Port Royal, however, their ordeal suddenly turned into one of horrific proportions. Unknown to any of the command officers, the fires in the after compartments had moved from one magazine to the next until finally reaching the magazine for the 381 millimetre guns of X turret. In a single second, the ship was enveloped in a cloud of smoke and debris and fire and flame and the officers on the deck were thrown far into the sea.

For his part Pendleton struggled to keep his head above the choppy surface. Nearby were screams and cries for help. In the distance he could make out the nearing shapes of his squadron’s frigates and destroyers as well as smaller motor launches.

Perkins simply stared in silence at the cloud that now shrouded the Port Royal. “Captain,” her XO called out from the bridge. “Ensign Carpenter is reporting he has Commodore Pendleton onboard his launch, as well as four other crewmen from the flagship.” And as the executive officer finished, the cloud began to dissipate, revealing nothing but an empty sea.

It took nearly thirty minutes, but eventually a single message was sent from the HMS Sabre, the new flagship of the Royal Navy Vetakan Patrol Squadron.

HMDS. Southern

Once again Commander Holly Kaul was standing from her seat, wired with the thrill for the hunt. It would be the first time that the Southern and Holly had seen action, other then in training and live fire practise.

"Ma'am, we got something on sonar, just picked it up, its a subamarine, and she's cracking, she recieved three consecutive hits in the aft."

"God damn it. Any responce from the RN?"

"Just coming in now, it reads 'Stand by, evading enemy torpedo.' That's all of it."

"Alright, maintain present course and reduce speed. Let's clsoe this gap." Well the gap was no more then 1000 meters.

HMDS. Northern

"Captain, there are sounds of break up on the long range. Its a submarine. We also have a message from the RN, 'Stand by, evading enemy torpedo.'"

"Alright, slow engines to 1/2." Commander Steve Jones shifted in his seat, the pain from his leg urged him to change his position every once in a while. He caught a piece of shrapnel durring a peace keeping mission, which let a good length scar on his butt cheek. "Well in that case, could go get me a coke or pepsi, or what ever we have on board." The ships cook entered the bridge, with a bottle of pop. "Exellent, alright," he took a large gulp and turned to the sonar officer, "What's going on with the torpedo?"

"It's following one of the RN vessels, it's catching up. Impact in 30."

"Shit, prepare to assist, may it be picking up survivors or sending over seom repair men."

"Change course?" asked the helmsman.

"Negative, its just a torpedo, won't affect use at this range." But then a white flash appeared behind the RN vessel attempting to run from the torpedo. The Northern and Southern shook violently. "Sweet jesus, what in hell was that? RN status!"

"Not sure what it was, Port Royal is going down. Their carrier took a hit, but seems to be floating."

"What about the Southern?"

"She's shaken up as well sir, nothing more then us."

"Alright, move in to assist. Keep those weapons armed and ready."

VDFCC, Command Room, Theeb, 4 Hours Prior to Deadline:

The VDF had been searching for Swan for 8 hours without success every Naval Ship was searching along with every Fighter, Helicopter and AWAC the Police and Military had secured the streets and where also searching.

Pearce was still pacing in the Command Room when reports of the Coalition's Losses. Pearce diverted all relavant support it could to the relavant areas. Suddenly a radio operator shouted:

"Cmd Pearce Sir you Should here this?" The radio operator hit a button and spoke into his headset.

"Cmd-Admiral Sir. This is Captain Jean Smith of the Knight Squadron ive picked up an isloated vessal trying to hide in an Isloated Bay 50 Miles North of Helgan. As soon as we turned towards her she fired an AA Weapon We have left and are in position to attack if nessary we can stay in the air for another 2 hours or so."

"Roger That Captain Stand-by" Stone Replied.

"What do you think Barrett? Could it be him??" Peace asked.

Barrett thought a few seconds: "Yes I do Sir its in the area we traced the signal to and firing at out fighters is abit incriminating."

"Ok Listern up people we have a possible lead on Swan's Locations I want some Fighters ready to shoot down any missiles. Have the Dauntless and any other ships block the Bay's Enterance. How long till the Strike Team can get their?"

"20 Minutes If it Deploys now" Replied Stone.

"Ok as I said before im leading them so don't bother trying to argue. Stone your in Command" With that Pearce swooped out into of the room. 5 Minutes later Pearce was running towards a Blackhawk Chopper its blades throwing up dust everywhere. As he got in and sat down he checked his Weapons and Kit. The Chopper lifted and sped away towards the ship.

"This is VDF Strike Force Commander Pearce. Strike Force is Inbound on target ETA to Target 20 Minutes. All Units Lock and Load. Kill Swan on Site I repeat Kill Swan on Site. What we are about to do could mean millions of lives being saved. Every man has a lot on his shoulders we can do this Good Luck"

The Strike Force consisted of 1 CH-57 Chinook Helicopter, 2 UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopters and 5 Apache Longbow Attack Helicopters. If Swan's people were good sailors. They would see the team coming on radar miles away. Pearce knew this but when 5 nuclear weapons where involved he had to strike with total force. The Strike Force was code named Attack Force Alpha. The Bay's enterance was now closed protected by a Type 42 Destroyer and two HSV-2 Swift Class High Speed Catamarans.

Ready to speed towards the Ship was an attack fleet of ships code named Assualt Force Bravo. This consisted of 1 Pegasus II Class Hydrofoil, 4 Visby class corvettes, 4 Skjold class patrol boats and 8 Combat Boat 90's. As Assault Force Alpha got 5 minutes to the target Pearce shouted over the Chatter:
