"Wait...I'm hearing we can now go live to the Assembly building to hear the President's speech" announced the newsreader, the screen cutting to the inside of the new Federal Assembly building - the parliamentary seat of the Federation. A gentleman in late middle-age, in a black morning suit approached the podium in the centre of the floor. He began to speak...
"Fellow citizens! I speak to you today following the successful union of our archipelago with an announcement! No longer will we follow a policy of isolationism and infighting. Instead, it is my great honour to announce to you my Government's intention to bring our nation into the world arena..." the President continued, speaking of his intentions to join the United Nations and to dispatch and receive diplomatic envoys to and from other nations.
"...it is my intention to attract large-scale foreign investment during my term as President. It is my intention to enlarge our economy, and to introduce international trade..." he continued.
"I have one final announcement to make. It is my intention to restructure our defence forces, to expand and modernise them. We have never been a people prone to war, and this will not change. The aunesian archipelago will remain the haven of peace and prosperity it has always been. It is for this very reason that we must ready ourselves to defend our way of life. I know you will understand this."
"I look forward to this new and exciting period of our history, as we all shall. Thank you" he finished, as the Assembly members stood to give the President a round of applause. The image changed, as the News cut back to the studio.
"Well, Tom, what can we make of that?" the news anchor said, turning to the Political Editor.
