If you thought I was going to give you tips on a naval fleet, you are incorrect, sorry. No I am looking for tips on creating a new naval fleet.

I've been playing the FT scene for about a year now and I'm interested in getting into the modern tech game. I plan to RP my nation as a primary Aerospace country, but because I don't want to depend on other nations so I wanted to create my own naval fleet.

Being a wanker isn't my style so I was looking for some tips on creating a full fleet of transports, carriers, battleships, destroyers, frigates, and. . . you know the works.\

Feel free to treat me like a total noobie. No really go ahead.

EDIT: No naval fleets were tipped in the makeing of this post.

Make up some battle groups, a general idea would be something like this:
1 aircraft carrier
1 battleship
2 cruisers
4 destroyers
2 frigates
2 submarines

Attached to each group you should have at least one preferably two or more Multi-Product Replenishment ship(s), a supply ship that carries food, ammo and fuel) It can be capable of underway replenishment(it can transfer its cargo to another ship while both are moving at speed) which is a good idea.
For larger groups, you might want to include separate fuel, food and ammo ships to supply a larger fleet or one on a longer range mission. You can incorporate these ships into your battle groups or in a separate support group which would also be comprised of destroyer and sub-tenders and other support ships.
You can do a variety of things with battle groups and the description I gave you is just a sample. Alternatively you could make plain carrier battle groups or plain battleship groups or formations of frigates and missile boats. It's up to you and your budget really.

Remember in space, with the near total lack of vessel cover, use all three dimensions of local space to advantage. Throw out the conventional two dimesional surface vessel combat tactics and treat vessels as larger, slower moving fighters when approaching another enemy fleet. If you can defeat enemy sensors somehow, and avoid bulk of fire, any direction can be attained to attack a target.

Just remember in defense, vessel weapon arrays can have more effect than just the old crossing the T method, depending on what direction a fleet currently is.

Also remember space is full of interfering matter. Solar winds and flares, magnetic fields, gravity effects from natural and artifical sources. So on and such.. Remember to take all of such into account, plus many other factors depending on fleet technologies, that can affect every little bit of combat.

Hardly formal, true expertise persay in military tactics, but it's what I consider usually.
