Keeping what you kill [FT, Intro]

Necro Mongers

Sixteen years ago
Massive uproar. Open rebellion. Desertion. Civil war. These were the words used to describe the death of the Lord Marshal and the open assassination attempt by Lord Vaako and his wife. The Necromongers had lost their beloved leader, he who had personally seen the Underverse! Millions of Necromongers refused to acknowledge the change to this newcomer, one who wasn't even a Necromonger! It was Lord Vaako who had struck the major blows as it was! Many influential Necromongers demanded that Vaako do in the new Necromonger Lord. But Vaako has the guile to refuse, and has declared that he will strike down any fool who up rises against the new NecroLord. And he kept his promise.

Three days passed after the new Lord took the throne. Vaako (http://www.cineclub.de/images/2004/09/riddick-5.jpg), with the blessing of the new Lord, has taken loyal Necromonger forces throughout the Armadas and begun the Necromonger Purge, killing off any open and not-so-open rebels against the new Lord. Some of the armadas themselves openly defied the new Lord, causing the Necromongers to fire on their own ships, killing many of their own people. They would never see the Underverse for their rebellion.

The loss at Helion was also a major blow to the morale of the Necromongers. Never had the Necromongers lost! This was an outrage! The Necromonger way was lost! How could anyone let this happen? But, alas, it was not the fault of the Necromongers, only their fearful, weak former leader, Lord Marshal. But few realized this, and fewer thought that the Necromongers would recover from such a blow. What was to happen next? Then the open civil war between the Armadas! What was going on?

Then there was the Order. The first Order by the new Lord Riddick (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/40/Chronicles_of_Riddick_screenshot_5.jpg) was for the entire fleet to move to a desolate world called Grue. Few knew the dark secrets it held. In fact, the only two were Lord Riddick himself and his dead companion, Kyra. Grue was the planet that Kyra and Riddick had met on, and Riddick hoped to show them what was on this desolate world.

Today
The Necromongers had set up a permanent base on Grue, launching strikes against colonies, and growing in numbers. The Necromongers were still uneasy with the new Lord Riddick, who had forced them to make a permanent base on Grue, which was unheard of in all of Necromonger history. They were Nomads! But few noticed that Lord Riddick had never ordered the construction of permanent facilities. He simply ordered the fleets to move there. The only person who actually noticed this was Lord Vaako who, despite his previous treachery to the last NecroLord, was never disposed by Lord Riddick. Vaako, to many, seemed to be the true leader of the Necromongers, as he was the one who made many of the planetary orders. Lord Riddick took over most of the affairs, however, but since Riddick rarely showed his face to the public, few knew this.

Then, on this seemingly ever-bright world, it was revealed that night does come to the planet. It was a year-long eclipse that was the only time it rained in. The Necromongers were caught off-guard. Thousands were slaughtered by the Grues, the planet's namesake, which were violent, light-sensitive beings that attacked anything that bled, including each other. It had been a good feast for the Grues, as it took the Necromongers a while to figure out what was happening. Then Lord Vaako, who was on the planet, received news from Lord Riddick himself on why they had come here. To face true death. To survive a threat that was greater yet lesser than they. Riddick never intended the Necromongers to establish a capital here. It simply was implied and understood by many erroneously, including Vaako. Riddick then devised a plan to use the Grues to their advantage. Create preparations to survive Grue attacks every twenty-two years while creating trained Grues as efficient killing machines. A project to last the ages. A project to kill, and a project to keep what was killed.

After the Grue Massacre, Lord Riddick's rule would never come into question again. After the sunrise came again, for the first time in twenty-two years, Lord Riddick stepped foot on Grue, declaring it the Necromonger capital, but that they would all arrive at the Underverse soon.

Within Space's black bowels there are many strange occurrences that can only be explained through divine prophets, or the strict adherence to purely scientific models of creation. In either case, sentient beings, wishing to know more about their infinite surroundings, choose to explore the universe in any manner of ways as they see fit.

PioneerCo Inc. chose an option that was far less expensive than sending in half-military half-science space craft through the universe manned by the brilliant and bold alike. They sent sentient probes racing through the cosmos along the aetheral waves that permeated all existence as the Ordo Astronomicus knew it.

Launched into space through what can only be described as a massive cannon, the PSI probe Alexander Thirty-One had been skipping along the constellation road for decades upon a micro-FTL drive. Reporting what things it found back to PioneerCo HQ, or what had become PioneerCo after ThornTech had gone under, and it's liquidator GammaEpsilon had been merged with Trekker Inc. In any case it had seen things both inane and spectacular in its many years of service, and the office back home knew everything about it. Now Alex had found something else of interest; a marauding race of aliens that had just recently been slightly depopulated by a swarm of biological terrors that only made the probe grin with glee inside.

Such odd things of infinite abhorrent cruelty; so simple, so elegant, so admirable in their voracious nature. If only I could join them in their feast upon those stupid simpletons, if only I could wreak my vengeance upon them as gracefully as those creatures do with their sharp teeth and piercing talons, if only...

Alex was deep in thought when headquarters sent him instructions to relay a message to the new inhabitants of what they called "Grue" through one of its remaining sub-probes. Threatening him with a rather unpleasant sensation if he were to resist as he sometimes did.

The oblate spheroid shaped probe opened a small hatch no more than a millimeter across; unloaded a cloud of micro machines that could act as a communication relay and do nothing more due to their simple design. Alex performed a small jump some ten light-seconds away and began to broadcast a signal to the Necromongers through it's vibrous cloud of nanites.

"Greetings from PioneerCo Incorporated. It seems that you have had recent run ins with misfortune if our data is correct. Could we perhaps interest you in certain goods and services to alleviate your unpleasant condition? For a nominal fee, of course."
