Is anyone here interested in playing a game of Diplomacy on here. If you don't know about diplomacy, I want you to read this site in full, it made me a better player, and it is a well put together site.
If anyone wants to, we could play 1900, a modifed map version of Diplomacy. Also, if there is enough interest, I will open this up to minor powers, however I am going to make al major powers be filled up first.

OK
I just figured that the people of NS would have the sophistication to play this game, as I have trouble finding competitors in my town.

Wait...hmm. Could you briefly summarize the game real quick? It's starting to sound pretty interesting.

I like the idea, but how exactly do we intend to play the game over the internet?

Basically, the game begins on the eve of the 20th century, in Europe. You are the head of one of the Great Powers, and must lead it to greatness through military endeavours, alliance forming, and the clever breaking of these alliances, you command your troops by writing the orders, and then watching how the chips fall at the end of each turn. I have to say, this is the most beautiful part of the entire game, you watch as either you are vaulted to victory by a perfectly planned allied campaign, or everything goes to the fritz, and you end up just a shadow of your former self. After each campaigning season (as turns are known) you negotiate pacts and treachery with your allies. Once someone has conquered 18 territories, or every player comes to a mutual pact to remain peaceful, the game ends.
here is a map (http://www.diplom.org/Online/maps/map_c.gif) for your reference. I would have to say that I find that I do best as france (seven), however, I have won once as England, almost won as Italy, and have won twice with Russia

I am to be judge (think Banker in Monopoly) and you will TG your orders to me (please read the rules on orders) I will post the orders on a thread, and then we would begin the diplomactic period, there would be both diplomacy through the channels of the telegram system, and on alliance threads if any do arise, and they usually do with quite colorful names (I once fought against a group that called their alliance the Purple People Eaters Treaty Organization)

Sounds like a more complicated version of Risk.

It is a more fun version of Risk. Risk is all about chance, this is all about tactics, logistics, and alliances.

Yes, you may, I would recommend however, as you are one of the first here, that you choose a different nation (perhaps italy or germany) as it is extremly difficult to win with Austria, I will however, write you down for Austria. I will be the judge, and you will send your orders to me in a telegram, then I will post them on a thread. Players will then have a five days to a week for the diplomacy stage, and for order writing, after which time they will send me their next set of order via TG and i will post these, and their effects.

I don't mind it being more difficult, though what will we use for the map?

Ok, I will sign you up for it officially, I am going to use my gameboard at my house, you guys could go by the game, however, I would recommend that you go to the Diplomatic Pouch (http://www.diplom.org/index.py) and use a map that allows placable units, you then can write your orders off of this. Or you could save on of the maps to a file on paint or photoshop, and use X and Os and other symbols to mark fleets and armies of each Great Power.

I got the impression after reading the rules that the minor nations like Bulgaria, Romania, Spain, Sweden, etc. can be invaded, is this possible or are they off limits?

they can be invaded, if this gets enough people (I doubt it will) then we can have players RP as the minor powers, they rarely can win, but it makes the game much more dynamic.

How do we do retreats and things? I mean, do we spend 5-7 days doing diplomacy and then send in our moves, then spend another 2 or 3 waiting for everone to send in retreats? What about builds?
I've played before and I'd like to take Germany. I'll be posting mostly under my main alt, Kilani.
