Playing with fire (Semi-Open)

The Combine of Xen

The Combine Ship was floating in space. Looking over the planet Tandaris Prime. This planet should have been a dot. A mere fly to the Combine race. Ignored for the other planets in this region. But no. This planet would give life to the new weapon they had planned. The ship tried to keep it's distance from the planet to not alert the the planets. But if things went wrong they could always just come back and erase all the evdience of them there.

The ship started to power up it's main weapon. They would fire this new weapon right at the planet. It appear as if where an undeadly oversized comet and would crash into the center of the planet. Where all the trees and forest grow. Hopefully it would conceal there weapon.

With a forceful tug the ship fired out what was known at the Overmind. It sped thhrough space an alarming speed heading towards the center of the planet. The Overmind itself knew of its trip to the planet. And it was already plotting a way to take it over.

Tandaris Aerospace Defence Command (TAD)
Hive City Tandaris, Northern Continental Area

Chief Lieutenant Ja'hin Briggs sat lazily at his console, spinning a graphite pencil between his fingers in a bored expression. His console read clear, as it always read; TAD hadn't had a real alert since the Civil War. Now, it mostly sat as an early warning system against incoming space debris. Even the occasional skirmishes with alien spacecraft on the borders of the system had never resulted in TAD being on alert; aliens passing through did not regard Tandaris Prime as a good enough target to spend the resources in invading. A blessing, of course, but for Ja'hin Briggs it made his job deadly dull.

He glanced around to check the location of his Supervisor in that guilty method undertaken by those knowingly slacking. The room was small, containing five or six computer stations with monitoring staff at each, and sat above a massive computer core built deep below the Capital Hive of Tandaris Prime that linked them to several ground- and orbit-based tracking stations. Each screen read clear. Each Operator was slacking slightly. The Supervisor, Captain Br'yan Adamson, was smoking a cigarette in the corner of the room.

Little did he know, the universe was about to kick Ja'hin Briggs resolutely in the rectal cavity, demonstrating once again the truth behind the ominous proverb, "may all your wishes be fulfilled."

His monitor lit up with a series of alarms, causing Briggs to jump in his seat. He swiftly swung round to his monitor, barely noticing each other monitoring officer moving into action as their own consoles lit up. Briggs triangulated the target and checked its trajectory. He then noticed Adamson standing at his shoulder. "What does it look like, Briggs?" the older officer said, his breath reeking of bad tobacco.

Briggs resisted the urge to pull a face at the smell, and maintained his composure. "Sir, we have an incoming projectile coming down through the atmosphere."

Adamson leaned in closer, staring at the monitor. "What's it look like?" he asked calmly.

Briggs connected to a live video feed from one orbital station. The streaking ball shot passed and continued into the atmosphere, heating as it went from the friction of re-entry. "Sir, our sensors read it as a comet," Briggs said. "Aimed at the equatorial forest belt. No military significance."

Adamson grimaced. "Or it could be a mistargeted projectile from mass driver," he said in a low voice. He returned to his own station at one corner of the room, and placed a headset on his head. "High Command, this is TAD," he reported as calmly as possible. "We are tracking an incoming projectile on a impact trajectory for the equatorial belt rainforests. Request military checkup to confirm lack of hostility."

"Get up, you stupid sons of dogs!"

The lights snapped on, causing Private Carstairs to blink in the harsh light. He had enough time to read his watch as 2.45am before being soundly pushed out of bed by the Colour Sergeant as he forced each trooper to wake up. Carstairs landed roughly, but quickly got to his feet and stood to attention.

"Listen up!" bellowed the Sergeant, an unpleasent man named Davidson. "Our platoon is being sent on a recon mission. Could be nothing, could be an attack. Get dressed and get to the armoury, five minutes!"

Each man groaned, and began to get dressed. Carstairs swore to himself, a small part of him hoping that it was an attack just to justify being woken up. Little did he know that he was standing two hundred miles from the impact zone of the greatest threat Tandaris Prime had ever seen.

As the proverb goes, may all your wishes be fulfilled.

The Overmind quickly fused with the ground it landed on. It had feeling it had attracted unwanted attraction from the beings of this planet. He now had the task of building a Zerg army. He quickly spread over the ground a purple wet and organic substance which many called a Creep. From out of it's body came small triangle like creatures. The Zerg drones quickly matured and began to build a hive. The Overmind knew he didn't have time to build anymore more creatures besides....zerglings. He would have to overwhelm the enemy this time with his weakest creatures but next time they face all his forces ever imagined...
