OOC: Small FT RP idea

The Combine of Xen

OOC: Well I havent rped FT in awhile and i wanted to do this kind for awhile. I wanted to Play as the Combine who where able gain control of a few Zerg Cerebrates and create them into an Overmind. The Combine plan to use the Zerg as a new weapon to help overwhelm enemies. They want to test it though on a solar system on the edge of the galaxy. Theres only one known planet with life and its sort of Late PMT-very early FT. Anyone interested in taking control of the small planet for the rp? Other FT nations can like observe or send SMALL forces ( hey its a small backwater planet. ) investgate the Zerg or something. Anyone interested?

(OOC: I'll play as the small planet - be interesting to have a go at some FT RP, seeing as I play MT.)

(OOC: Thanks. :) I'll come up with a brief description of the planet, government, military etc. and post it here.)

(OOC: Let me know if this is okay)

Official Solar System Name: SY-25567 (Official Earth Designation)
Local Solar System Name: Tandaris System
Number of Bodies: 6
Inhabited Bodies: SY-25567c, third planet from the star

Local Planet Name: Tandaris Prime
Sovereign Nations: 1 (The Allied Terran Federation of Tandaris Prime)
Government: Democratic Federation comprising local and national legislative and executive organs
Population: Approximately five million
Number of Continents: 1
Climate: Continent lies with its centre along the equatorial line and its furthest northern and southern points within two hundred miles of the polar caps. Consequently, climate varies rapidly from tropical conditions along the Equator, becoming milder and eventually below zero moving north and south.
Geography: Tropical Rainforest lines the centre of the continent, with numerous rivers throughout. Marshland lies to the north and south of the rainforest, before moving into milder plains. At the northern and southernmost points of the continent lie frozen mountain ranges, creating a natural barrier between the continent and the polar caps. Eastern and westernmost approaches feature beaches and cliffs.

History: The Allied Terran Federation of Tandaris Prime was formed following the abandonment of the Tandaris System by its Earth-based colonial masters following a massive war that diverted their military resources. Following a brief civil war between the different settlements, an alliance was formed to prevent further destruction and resulted in the current government. The Allied Terran Federation occupies three ‘Hive’ cities, two across the upper-middle section of the continent and one along the lower-middle of the continent in the mildest climatic areas. Numerous mineral mines lie to the north and south, most abandoned following the disappearance of equipment with their colonial masters after pulling out. Indications of an indigenous civilisation lie towards the centre of the planet in the tropical rainforests of the equator in the form of ruined buildings, but no contact with indigenous life has ever been reported.

Military Strength and Technology Level: The Allied Terran Federation maintains a standing Army of 150,000, a third of which comprises combat forces with logistical support comprising the rest. The Allied Terran Federation Defence Force (ATFDF) splits infantry and armour forces between the three cities as garrisoned troops, with regular patrols along the main transport links between each city. Altogether, the ATFDF fields 35,000 infantry, approximately 350 armoured battle tanks, 200 artillery pieces, an large number of lightly-armed transport vehicles for infantry forces, 100 theatre-based anti-air missile platforms and an atmospheric airforce of 240 nuclear-powered fighter and bomber aircraft. Each settlement maintains atmospheric air-defence missiles and orbital-capable hydrogen-warhead missiles for atmospheric and orbital air defence, respectively. The Space Forces of the ATFDF comprises one squadron (a total of 25) vessels capable of high sublight interplanetary travel, comprising 5 Heavy Cruiser-type spaceships, 15 Light Cruiser-type spaceships and 5 Artillery spaceships.

Technologically, the ATFDF sits at the low end of the space-based technological spectrum. Battle tanks utilise a form of ‘clean’ atomic shells as their main armament, with little radioactive fallout, and Charged Plasma Beam weapons as secondary, close-up armament. Artillery cannons utilise the same ‘clean’ atomic shells for widespread destructive purposes. The Space Forces utilise Neutral Particle Beam weapons as their localised, close-in combat armament, with pulse-rocket powered, nuclear-tipped Anti-Ship Missiles for longer-range combat.

Xenological Experience: The Allied Terran Federation has had limited contact with several alien species, and serves as a minor trading and refuelling outpost for traders heading into and out of the galaxy. Several skirmishes with passing alien forces have caused the Federation to develop a strong (albeit small) deterrent for the protection of the planet.

Why do they have hundreds of tanks and hundreds of thousands of men in service, if they have never been even in contact with any other space nation or alien race, and have no enemies in the planet itself? It looks like Tahiti arming itself to the teeth...

I think I'd be interrested in observing and perhaps somehow intervering, should the situation look like worth it. So you can count me in.

(OOC: Point taken. I shall adjust this. However, I wanted to work some forces into the mix, otherwise an invasion would be over in a matter of minutes. After a Civil War, a strong force to keep the new government together would make sense. However, I have altered the history to represent some political and military encounters.)

Why? I mean it's obvoius your planet believes that alien people are out there, why wouldn't they want to be prepared?

Exactly.

Also, I'd be interested. Eldar, by definition, use small numbers of troops.

Or perhaps have some communist/fascist/religious fanatics/whatevah rebels living in the wilderness between cities, raiding convoys? Or some sort of savage aliens? It would explain the somewhat overpowered military and thereby the something-tougher-than-USA-VS-Tahiti situation that will evolve when someone finds out about the planet.

(OOC: Well, I've adjusted one or two bits of the last element of the description to explain a reasonable military force.)

Because people rarely are. After a couple of gerations, they start to think that no one could ever hurt them, as no one has ever done so before. Just look at Netherlands in the 30's, Pacific island states now, China in the 19th century...

Only countries like Switzerland are in constant preparedness, for there are wars around them all the time, even as they aren't involved, but that's not the case with this planet. I thought that, to have such an army, it would be more realistic (and interresting) if there was some sort of an internal reason behind it...

Yes, but all of them had armies, just not ones that where prepared for an/the assault.
Madnestan

Nations that have no neighbours have never had armies, really. Even while Tahiti, Samoa, Fiji and Tuvalu all have people with assault rifles, they don't have armies, even as they know that there are other peoples and countries around them.

Let's not get stuck to this, anyways. It's fine as it is, now.

Yes, but aren't they protected by the US and some other larger nation? And if not, well then, they must be on good terms with their neighbors. Anyways, Tahti dosn't have any "known" nieghbors.\

Sry, didn't read the end of the post.

Ok yeah thats fine. I'll be posting as my other nation and this one. The Zerg unleashed is my other one. I'll set up the thread soon.

I've never RP'd the FT version of my nation [which is completely, 100% unconnected to my MT one,] but I'd like to start. Would it be possible for me to have a small warship squadron of like 4 ships passing through the area? I doubt they'd engage anyone overtly, but they might try to stop the thing if its in their power to.
