Roman rp idea!!!
This Role play is based on the massacre of the Teotuburger Wald where three Roman legions were crushed in a massive ambush by the Germans. Each player involved is taking part as an escaping soldier battling hunger, the terrian, the weather and his enemy with one intention...
GET HOME.....
The players who are taking part as Germanic tribesmen will be hunting the escapee's with one intention,
KILL THE ROMANS.....
Thank you all for signing up, the IC for the thread is located below...enjoy..
Germanic leader: Arminius, a germanic slave who lived in Rome and was trained in military tactics therefore giving him the advantage in the forest using the Roman's tactics against them.
Roman general: Publius Quinctilius Varus
How the Germans won:
Arminius knew Roman tactics very well and could direct his troops to counter them effectively, using local superior numbers against the spread-out Roman legions. The remaining Romans stood their ground and managed to erect two fortified night camps, but as the rains continued in the ensuing assault they were slaughtered almost to the last man.
The torrential rain prevented them from using their bows (and arrows), rendering them virtually defenceless. The legionaries not killed in the battle were burnt to death in wicker cages.
Varus and his officers who had not died in battle fell on their own blades.

I'd love to use her in her original form again. she rocked :D
admittedly, she's a hybrid of Zhugie Liang, Rikku [ffx-2 version] and myself... but still.

Tiberius Sergius Antigonus, a 22 year Milites recently promoted to arms instructor (much to his chagrin).
Antigonus is a good man to have in the ranks if there is action. He wears an Armillae and has two Phalerae on his parade armor as proof. His failing is never wanting to do the everyday tasks.
He never takes the initiative, is never the first one done, and he only deals with the newer recruits when detailed. Despite this, the Centurion sees his skills and wants to use them to train others. It also helps that the Armillae came from a battle where he saved the standard and the Imaginifer with it. The Imaginifer who became his Centurion.
His current motto: Six more years and a farm. He has hooked up with a brown haired, brown eyed prostitute- who has a young son from before they met - and plans to keep them both after mustering out.

I'm interrested, but there are few things that need to be cleared out before we can hope this to become a good RP...
First, something to tie our characters together. Meaning, they must be in same are, close together, if they're ordinary soldiers or equal. If they're legion commanders or something, the situation is naturally a bit different, but as it stands now, to make this RP really to become a RolePlay, there must be interaction, which requires something to connect our characters.
Second, there must be a campaign of some sort. Something happening around our characters. Be it a war of some sort, rebellion, riot, city on fire, anything, there must be something "big" happening. No RP lives more than few days if there's nothing but wandering-around to do.
We will all basicly be regular soldiers in the same unit, kinda like a Roman Band of Brothers......
Sure Shakal..you could be part of the opposing force but we have yet to figure out who that is....
Those wishing to participate as legionairres are accepted....
As for the setting, i say we all have to agree on that...
Last..
I asked for assistance in planning the "Plot" for these men, sooo if anyone has ideas feel free to post them by all means..

This is during the first across the Rhine excursion by Nero Claudius Drusus Germanicus in 13 BC, right?
He did go all the way up to the North Sea and made the Frisians subject to annual tribute.
Or is this during the younger Drusus campaigns during Tiberius reign?
Well....it's somthing we all should decide on, this is OUR rp...
I say..Nero Claudius Drusus Germanicus
Now we need a general plot line.....

Maybe take part in afew major battles?

To:Gente Del Agua
The Germans werent conquered by Rome. The rhine and Danube became the frontiers. They exerted influence until the year 9 A.D when Herman Der Cherusker beat the Roman 17,18,19 legions in the Teotuburger Wald. Before that those three legoins were heading to the elbe in Germany attempting to extend the frontier to the river.
Exactly!!
The Germans would NOT give up!....

How the hell do THREE ROMAN LEGIONS perish....

I'm pretty good with Roman History, as well as Germanic History. In Roman Times terms...my blood would basically be Roman, Germanic, Gaulic, and Gaelic :-P.
Anyways...
I wouldn't mind being a Commander of sorts. I could head a Legion, and someone else can head a Germanic Army and we could have a confrontation. Or, hell, we could all just re-do Teuteberg Forest...or just a Fictitious, yet Historical nature, battle...eh...yea...
If anyways, my name will be -
Marcus Tiberius Villius
Angerman and i have come up with a WICKED IDEA...
You all know that three Roman legions were lost in the black forest correct? ok...
Our Roman soldiers will escape that ambush and attempt to make their way through Germanic lines, rugged terrian while battling the weather and hunger...with 1 goal...
MAKE IT HOME

Pyschotika
20-12-2006, 22:00
Man you remind me of Ali G...
Anyways, I could help either side sort of prepare for how this battle was fought.
For instance -
The Roman Forces:
3 Legions *Being the Infantry*
3 Alae, or Horse Regiments *Auxilia, meaning most were Archers on Horseback*
6 Auxiliary Cohorts *Conscripts, Light Infantry, armed from shaddy spears to some nice Gladius'*
All in all, most estimate 24,000 - 24,500
The Germanic Forces:
No real formations known. Estimated to be at about 18,000 in Strength, most had to have been Veterans of former battles. They also must be locals, being as they used their surroundings superbly. If you can imagine, they actually were not blood thirsty giants. They were most likely farmers and blacksmiths, drawn in a WWII Soviet esque 'Great Patriotic War'. Of course, as any 'Barbaric' Tribe and Army did as well, they had their 'witchdoctors' and 'druids' and 'shamans' and 'medics'. This means that they were most likely, for a large part, drugged up and yes...'blood crazed'. But naturally, they were just simple men.
Estimated Casualties:
23,000 Romans
7,000 Germans
Yes....Romans did get their asses kicked quite well.
So...hmm...any questions?
Pyschotika
20-12-2006, 22:09
Or screw the facts and just kill things....
Anyways, I love the idea of a Band of Legionaires, Auxilia, and perhaps just a few others narrowly escaping the onslaught and re-routeing it self to hopefully apply a hit-and-run tactic on the Germanic ass-end of things >>.
No questions...
Thanks for the information Pyschotika, we have our plot, units, a list of equipment, basic information on the terrian, enemys, numbers....
We are almost ready to go although we could use some more people....

actually, in this case, it's resurrecting an old character from my first RP.
Anime had very little influence on her creation [though, one could perhaps blame final fantasy 10/10-2 somewhat] though i will, perhaps, admit to anime having some bearing on how she's going to turn up in the first place. i just couldn't think of a way to justify her existence in this place and time, so I'm going to go with not justifying it at all :)
'sides, the most likely result of someone trying anything isn't a mallet to the head so much as a knife to the most vulnerable area available. hehehe.
anyway, once Osteia sorts out these character sheets I'll fill it in and you can see. lets just say she has her own goals in mind, and the romans getting home is... helpful.

Secundus has longed for glory on the battlefield but when called to arms his country saw little need for him and his army, he chose the life of a mercenary over the life of the military and left to join a band of frontline mercenaries working on the Barbarian front lines. He did not care whose side he would be on, whether roman or german he would still fight and he would still have his glory. After two years wondering with his unit an army of romans passed by and hired them, he along with forty others were placed on the front lines with him as the commanding officer.

I never had explained this but...
Basically throughout the battle, in the midst of giveing commands and towards the end, he becomes somewhat lost with him self. A legionaire falls next to him due to fatally being struck by a single arrow, out of a sort of anger he takes one of his pilums and lobs it in the general direction of a German. In a sort of way during the retreat, he had gathered another one and later on found one which a Roman had dropped prior to the battle. Currently is carrying a youth's shield, with two pilums in them.
He's fairly low in rank, I'm not well educated as far as exact rankings go but I'd say somewhere on the lower end of the staff.
Anyways, I was hopeing in the RP we would spot a German party transporting one of the three Standards. >>

Pi will be appearing as soon as someone gets themselves in a "couldn't keep this up for long" type situation Without immediately extracting themselves from it again... or once the battle is over.
in other words, I'm watching and still around :)
I hope to be next to or with some other roman players in my next post or two. Maybe even be in a position to help poor Marcellus... ;)
Marcellus and Desius are about to make a break for it....
I suggest you guy meets up with them,...they really don't stand a chance anywhere near the rest of the soldiers, their only option is to fall back immeaditly....

I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I have to (temporarily) withdraw from this RP. It seems like we're going to spend holidays out of town, so I'll be unable to post within the next 7-10 days. After that, if it'll be still feasible, I'll continue if possible.
Osteia can play Decius until that. Decius can walk, if helped, and will after a day or so be able to hold his own again.
Sorry for the inconveniece, guys.
