Today, the Senate has voted 990-10 to cancel conscription. The move was triggered after a superior general, by the name of General Genson, proposed a much more elite military.
According to the new plan, the Armed Forces will go from 100 million members to just 30 million. However, these will all be combat troops.
An entire new branch of the military will be created, run by civilians. The Logistics Corps has been announced. These will provide, feed, clothe, and supply every unit in the military. They however, will be required to attend a nine week training boot camp. This will teach them the skills for logistics as well as basic self-defense. The Logistics Corps will have the responsibility to defend their own convoys, although regular military may also help provide protection. Omega Military Systems has also has announced Security Forces Corps, which will provide protection, as their men are trained in it only.
The entire Armed Forces training will be completly changed. One soldier will go through six months of basic military training. They will then go on another six month training program for their standard MOS. The Navy and Air Force have similar training methods. The Marines, however, will have an additional six month period.
In addition, more and more quality equipment will be used. According to some officials, the new training program will have each soldier, sailor, airmen, and Marine in physical condition which rivals that of a professional athlete.
The Draft can still be put into effect in wartime. It would require another vote by the Senate to re-instate it.
