Secular Empire Reveals Secret Nuclear Program

SUPER CITY, MARAQUE - The Constitutional Monarchy of the Secular Empire of Maraque today has officially revealed its intentions of building a weapons arsenel of nuclear devices that it says it may use in purely drastic measures, but surely not as a first resort.

In a press conference today in the Press Conference Room at the Imperial Palace, Press Minister Sven Heinrick said "it would be foolish to assume the Secular Empire would not create a mean to protect itself against nations who wish to cause harm to our society, as we've seen before by the recent terrorist attacks by the now exterminated Fourth Holy Reich."

Back in November, the Fourth Holy Reich launched an unprovoked attack upon Super City when more than 200 missiles stormed down on the financial district, killing thousands and injuring hundreds of thousands more. The attack destroyed only a small portion of the financial district, but it brought economic devestation to the area where more than 20 buildings collapsed.

The Secular Empire is also in the process of creating a missile shield, of which the Lord Governor says "something that has been needed for far too long." The missile shield has been in development for a few years, and is said to be nearly complete, but it can't come soon enough as long as there are nations out in the world who wish to kill and murder innocent Maraqueans for no reason what so ever. In the meantime, the Lord Governor has re-addressed the evacuation plan that has saved thousands, and is currently in the works of building more bomb shelters as to make them more accessible to a wider portion of the population.

The Secular Empire is rumored to be investing $500 billion annually to the creation of these weapons, but it is an unconfirmed report and the Lord Governor himself refuses to say.

The Socialist Militaristic Empire of Latica supports such a move as we our selves have been working for a nuclear shield network.

While these weapons lack the capacity for widespread destruction, they more than suffice for strategic use against enemy nuclear silos, military bases, satellites, et cetera, and the Chetz II is the same ABM shield used by the Soviet Republic.

Though the Republic of Rhodesia is saddened to see that nuclear proliferation continues to run rampant in the world today, and earnestly hopes to see the day when these weapons may be eliminated, we nevertheless acknowledge Maraque's right to acquire such weapons. In the end, it is up to the individual state to make defence policy, and if it involves nuclear weapons acquisition, then so be it. We condemn the Leocardian government's policy of trying to force nations to give up nuclear arsenals, and question the utility of their policy of more proliferation in response- perhaps if they are so adamant about disarmament, they should set the example.

The nuclear weapons buildup deal that you're creating has exceeded more than Leocardia's nuclear weapons arsenal, and we consider this as a major threat. We demand you to halt your weapons capacity at a limited level, or we, Leocardians, will produce more nuclear arsenal to keep our level of weapons intact. Halt your weapons to keep the environment safer.
