1530 Saffron Avenue, City of Rhye
‘Careless!’ Dmitri thought to himself. The dull pounding on the door below grew louder, and then came the sound of splintering wood and heavy footsteps falling on the ceramic tile. ‘I’ve been too fucking careless!’ He stood half-naked next to his laptop, snapping DVDs in half with trembling hands as fast as he could, tossing the broken plastic to the floor. As the footsteps grew louder, he turned to the window behind him. He brushed broken slivers of DVD plastic from the top of his laptop as he picked it up, and then opened the window and heaved the computer out and onto the avenue below. A worthless gesture; the hard drive wouldn’t have been sufficiently damaged. All his contacts, all the plans would still be perfectly preserved. Dmitri silently cursed himself for wasting so much valuable time on a pointless action. With the laptop in fragments in the street, Dmitri turned back to his desk. It was too late. The door flew open and Rhysian Federal Agents swarmed into the room, pointing their rifles directly at Dmitri.
“Get on the ground! Get on the fucking ground right now!” they shouted, repeating themselves as Dmitri lowered himself to his knees.
“Okay, okay!” Dmitri cried with a hoarse squeak. His eyes moistened and he began to sob as the Police cuffed him and began dragging him out of his house and into the transportation van.
