Nigerian News Now

This morning, the Alliance for Democracy annnounced that its candidate for the 2007 Presidential Elections is Obafemi Awolowo. He will be running on a platform of increased political transparency, less corruption and a more diversified economy.

Meanwhile, in the Niger Delta the violence continues as several raids by rebel groups attacked oil wells, but were driven off by increased security. The NDPFV has promised to kidnap more foreign oil workers, if "the needs of the people, not international corporations" are not met. President Obasanjo has promised to "crackdown" on the rebel groups and assures the world that oil production will be kept up. World oil prices continue to fluctuate as news from the Niger Delta comes in, since over 2 million barrels come out of the area every day.
