The federal government is comprised of three branches, which are designed to check and balance one another's powers:

* Legislative: The Congress, made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives, which makes federal law, declares war, approves treaties and has powers of impeachment.
* Executive: The President, who appoints, with Senate approval, the Cabinet and other officers, who administers and enforces federal law, can veto bills, and is Commander in Chief of the military.
* Judiciary: The Supreme Court and lower federal courts, whose judges are appointed by the President with Senate approval, that interpret laws and their validity under the Constitution, and can overturn laws they deem unconstitutional.

The military of the United States comprises 1.4 million personnel on active duty, along with several hundred thousand each in the Reserves and the National Guard. Service in the military is voluntary, though conscription may occur in times of war through the Selective Service System. The United States is considered to have the most powerful military in the world, partly because of the size of its defense budget; American defense expenditures in 2005 were estimated to be greater than the next 14 largest national military budgets combined, even though the U.S. military budget is only about 4% of the country's gross domestic product. The U.S. military maintains over 700 bases and facilities. It also has bases on every continent except Antarctica.

the US government has now become split. With the Democratic Party in control of the Congress and the Republican party in control of the White House, the United States is divided. Will the US military be forced out by a vote in Congress? Will the President be able to keep the Army in Iraq and "stay the course"? It is unknown, though everything shall be known in the new year when Congress comes into session

Message back to Australian government:
the US government is very concerned about Australia leaving Iraq. It is imperative that we work together and stay the course. Frankly, Australian soldiers are not in that much danger, if Australian soldiers would stay a little longer and continue to aid in atleast training of Iraqi security forces, they would be greatly helping the Iraqi people. We are on the apex of victory, if we give up now, then we have doomed the Iraqi people

The Australian Government does not agree that the Coalition is on the Apex of Victory. The Australian Government puts forward as the US Iraq Study Groups Report as well as the The British Chatham House Report and asks the US to review these Documents as well as Consult with its Commanders on the Ground.

On your concearn for Afgahnistan, we may be able to send a good amount of soldiers, but make it clear that we will not be involved in Iraq. We feel that nothing is being accomplished. Let us discuss what our role in Afgahnistan will be before we get involved.

Reply message: We understand your feelings on the removal of combat troops from Iraq, but what about Afghanistan? The Australian units in Afghanistan are making a huge difference there, and preserving democracy in a country that deserves it.

We understand the reasons for Lithuanias feelings on Iraq. We feel that the role of Lithuanian troops would be to work in tandem with other NATO troops. The Afghani troops have turned out well, but NATO is still taking most of the burden. It is imperative that we use European troops to relieve and aid American, Canadian, and British troops in the southern areas of Afghanistan. If we are able to stop them, once and for all, we will have preserved democracy in Afghanistan

D/N IC:
Washington-Today, Congress has convened in session, and with the democrats in charge of Congress, some critics see this as the time the war in Iraq will end. Many speculate that with the American people having to deal with another Christmas of war in Iraq, and now they are demanding that the US pull out of Iraq. If the United States pulls out of Iraq, the rest of the coalition will follow, and the country will be on its own. Many analysts say that the country will fall into chaos, while some say that with the US and allies out of Iraq, its Middle Eastern allies may aid it.

The Democratic leaders in Congress today have stated that Iraq mus soon "take control of its own country" or the US will be unable to continue its assistance. This comes weeks after the hanging of Saddam Hussein and a wild range of attacks among all religious groups because of that execution.

The State of Israel

Israel is worried that a withdrawal of American troops from Iraq will increase the disturbances in Iraq, and the risk is that it will spread to the neighboring countries.
With the last terror-attack in Jerusalem (the stadium) in fresh mind, the people of Israel would be happy if the United States continued their efforts in Iraq.

IC: The US may be able to provide these weapon systems, but also know that the US has many defensive systems already on the islands, incase of defense. But, it is possible that it is time to hand over defensive weapons to the Japanese military.

The US understands Israels position, but with the way feelings are in the United States, it may become very difficult to keep the soldiers there. Also, if a situation appears in other parts of the world, the US will be unable to offer assistance.

Iraq:
The United States will begin downsizing the military forces in the country. Much of our forces will now goto city protection in Baghdad, Mosul, and other cities and into training of Iraqi units. the Iraqi Security Forces will take over more responsibilities. The downsize is not finalized yet, but it is expected to be several battalions of US Army units. These units will either be pulled out and sent to the hectic region of Afghanistan to aid NATO troops or home, to provide replacements for units that are moving in and out of Iraq. Congress hopes that this will lead to a full pull out by 2012.

Elections: The candidates:
Republican Presidential Candidate:
John McCain/Rudy Guilliani

Democratic Candidate:
John Edwards/Barack Obama

Diplomatic Message Response

We understand our treaty with the United States and are perfectly happy with that arrangement however as the old saying goes "it is better to be able to fight and not have to than to have to fight and not be able to". And the United States is currently stretched with Iraq and Afghanistan we much wonder how much force they could truly commit to an all out war with North Korea.
